I'm excited to finally be able to share my first book review with y'all!
Mary Kay Andrews has quickly become one of my favorite authors. Her books are so much fun and have just the right amount of suspense mixed in with a little romance.
I recently finished reading The Fixer Upper which revolves around Dempsey Jo Killebrew, a Washington DC lobbyist, and the trouble that she has gotten herself into.
Dempsey finds herself in the middle of a Washington political scandal. Her former boss is being investigated by the FBI for bribery and tries to lay the blame all on Dempsey. Dempsey reaches out to her father for help and he suggests a change of scenery. Mitch, Dempsey's father, has recently inherited an old house called "Birdsong," in the small town of Guthrie, Georgia. Mitch offers Dempsey the chance to head to Guthrie and fix up the old house to put on the market.
When Dempsey arrives in Guthrie, she realizes she can't just slap a coat of paint on the house and sell it. It needs work... a lot of work. To say it is a "fixer upper" is an understatement! Dempsey also soon discovers that a squatter has been living in the house! It turns out the squatter, Ella Kate, is a distant relative of Dempsey's. Ella Kate believes the house is rightfully hers since she had been taking care of the man who had lived there and passed away. Ella Kate provides a good laugh throughout the book.
During Dempsey's time in Guthrie, she meets Tee Berryhill, the son of a local lawyer. Will Dempsey find love with Tee? Will the FBI investigation get in the way of them finding their passion? What kind of trouble will Ella Kate cause for Dempsey?
I would definitely recommend this book! I think you will find yourself rooting for Dempsey as she not only restores the house, but learns to restore herself.
I've been living in North Carolina going on three years, and each year we've had one good snow. When I say good, I mean 8 to 9inches! I'd be lying if I told you I didn't keep waking up in the middle of the night to check the snow radar ;)
When it snows, does anyone else feel the urge to take snow day pictures? I know I do!
I love how color stands out so pretty against a white snowy backdrop. That's one reason why I chose to wear this pretty pink coat. Also, I just love pink!
Note to self, don't throw snowballs at your photographer...
blow him kisses instead ;)
These Hunter boots and cable knit socks are perfect for the cold weather. The Hunter boots are rain boots and the socks make them extra warm!
To complete my snow day look, I put on some bright pink lipstick to match my coat and these pretty gold earrings. The lipstick I'm wearing is Marc Jacobs "So Sofia." It's one of my many favorites!
What is your favorite thing to do during a snow day?
My coat is last season from J. Crew, but a classic never goes out of style. You can find similar pink coats here(on sale!) and here.
Happy New Year, Y'all! I hope everyone had a great holiday with family and friends.
One of my favorite things to do during the winter is to head up to my boyfriend's lake house. Wait, who am I kidding? This is a favorite thing to do year round! During the winter, it's so nice to spend a relaxing weekend by the fire reading a good book or watching a new movie.
While this outfit may not be what I lounge around the house in, it is the perfect outfit for entertaining. It's always fun to have a group of friends up to the lake for a weekend. This dress is so comfortable while also being super cute!
If you were wondering if I was freezing while taking these photos, the answer is definitely yes! This J. Crew vestadded an extra layer of warmth while not covering up the dress. I LOVE a good vest. I have a closet full of at least 12 vests...no joke!
I paired this outfit with a pretty pearl necklace and gold and pearl earrings and bracelets. The soft accessories complemented the cream stripes in the dress so well! This has easily become a favorite outfit of mine.
Miss Izzy loves the lake just as much as I do!
What is something that you love to do in the winter?
You can shop this look below! Some pieces were sold out after the holiday season, so I've linked similar items.
A few weeks ago, we took a trip down to Oak Island, NC. Before moving to North Carolina, I had never been to the beach after the summer season. Needless to say, I had NO idea what to pack! The weather ended up being perfect for a sweater on the beach. Bonus:: This sweater is currently on sale!
I love the colors of this outfit. Even though you normally think of light blue and white as a summery combo, it is a pretty way to brighten up a fall wardrobe. I chose gold and pearl accessories to complement the soft blue and white of the outfit.
These suede booties are one of my favorite pairs! I wear them at least twice a week. The mushroom color is very versatile and can be worn with a variety of colors. It wasn't the brightest idea to wear them on the beach though! ;)
What is your favorite time of the year to head to the beach? I definitely want to go back during the off season!

The countdown continues! We have less than three weeks until Christmas! Part two of my "gift guide" series includes ideas for her. If you're shopping for family, best gal pals, or need some ideas for your Christmas list, this gift guide has some great ideas!
I own a lot of these pieces and can definitely say you can't go wrong with any of these items!
I can't believe tomorrow is already Thanksgiving! My number one priority for Thanksgiving is enjoying a delicious meal (of course!) and spending time with good company. Coming in a close second is dressing comfortably, yet stylish. This outfit is perfect for just that!
The fabric of the dress is so comfortable which makes it an easy piece to wear. The dress is also pretty "flowy," so I can eat as much of that yummy Thanksgiving food as I want! ;)
I've been a big fan of olive green this fall and this dress has quickly become one of my favorites. This Ralph Lauren jacket(on sale!) is also a go-to of mine for fall and goes so well with the color of the dress.
I added a little fall pizzaz to this otherwise basic dress with a blanket scarf and some fun jewelry. If you're in need of a blanket scarf tutorial, check out this post by The Stylish Petite.
We are heading to the beach bright and early tomorrow! What are your Thanksgiving plans? I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday!

These chocolate chip pumpkin muffins are a delicious breakfast (or dessert!) option for your upcoming holiday gatherings.
I had never made pumpkin muffins before and this recipe was super easy to follow. I'm not a huge fan of pumpkin flavored things (crazy, I know!), but these muffins were so tasty! Bonus: this recipe includes chocolate chips and I do love chocolate :)
I had the muffins in the oven for 17 minutes and they turned out perfectly. You can see the breaking of the muffins in the picture above. That's how you know they are done!
I hope you'll try out this recipe and love these muffins as much as I did. If you do, let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
