Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson says Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is looking good ahead of his return to action.

The 25-year-old midfielder has handed the Reds a huge boost by returning to training at Melwood much earlier than expected having not kicked a ball all season after suffering multiple knee ligament damage in the Champions League semi-final first leg against AS Roma last April.

Commenting on his team-mate’s status, Henderson said: “The manager will be [careful] – he is with players who have been out for a long time, he knows how difficult it is to come back.

<<– Buy football club shares online in minutes –>>

“But Ox has looked good in training and I’m sure over the next few weeks, as he builds fitness, the manager will keep a close eye on him because he is an important player, a fantastic player for this team.

“To have him back before the end of the season would be a massive boost.

“It was obviously a massive moment for everyone but [especially] for him to be back from a bad injury. He has been out for a while now and I’m sure he’s been thinking about that moment for a long time.

“It was great to have him back. He is a great character around the lads and he is obviously a fantastic player, so to have him back within the squad was a big plus for us.

“Hopefully over the next few weeks he can keep progressing and build his fitness up. Who knows, hopefully he can get some minutes before the end of the season – that would be a huge boost for the team.”

Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski is distancing himself from speculation that claims he could finally be up for a move to Liverpool.

The 24-year-old Poland playmaker has been linked with the Reds on a regular basis for the last couple of years and Jürgen Klopp is known to be an admirer. That doesn’t, of course, mean that the boss will make an attempt to land him, but the Italian media seem to think there’s been contact behind the scenes ahead of a possible summer move.

However, Zielinski insists he’s happy where he is, so much so that he’s ready to commit himself to a new contract.

<<– Buy football club shares online in minutes –>>

“My representatives are discussing my renewal with Napoli and I’m only focused on playing football,” said the player.

“There was a time when I often thought about my future and that was reflected in my mental state and performances. Now I leave these things to my agent.

“I’m happy at Napoli, I have two more years left on my contact and I want to win something with this club.

“It would mean a lot to the fans and I. It would also be nice to write myself into Napoli’s history.

“I’ve never talked to [Jürgen] Klopp. There’s nothing to say about Liverpool or anyone else.

“I’m happy at Napoli. I’m working with a Coach who I’ve learned a lot from. I want to play my best football for the rest of the season and then we’ll see what happens.”

Juventus have left the door open for a possible summer move for Mo Salah.

The Italian giants are on a major recruitment campaign and having invested heavily in Aaron Ramsey, their focus is now back on the Egyptian ace, should you choose to believe reports that originate from Italy.

<<– Buy football club shares online in minutes –>>

Earlier this month it was reported that Juventus were considering a £175million move for the Liverpool man despite the fact he’s clearly unavailable for transfer. PSG’s Kylian Mbappé is another big gun that the Italians are said to be looking at.

Juventus sporting director Fabio Paratici has attempted to play down their interest in the duo but at the same time, he hasn’t ruled out future attempts to try and sign them.

He said: “At this moment, it’s all fantasy football, it’s only February.

“Nobody knows what could happen in June.

“We are proud to have brought Aaron Ramsey to Juve, as he is a great signing.”

Arsenal have reportedly entered the race to sign Liverpool target Matthijs De Ligt. It is claimed that the Gunners have decided to make their move as a result of Liverpool’s attempts behind the scenes to try and temp the Ajax skipper to Anfield.

The 19-year-old centre-back is wanted by Reds’ boss Jürgen Klopp and work is underway to see if a deal could possibly be brokered in the summer. However, De Ligt is now represented by controversial super-agent Mino Raiola and we can’t but help feel that this will obstruct things somewhat.

We imagine that De Ligt would cost around £70million and if you believe the latest reports, Arsenal are willing to meet a valuation in that region.

<<– Buy football club shares online in minutes –>>

As many as nine major European clubs are interested in De Ligt but it sounds like only Barcelona, Juventus and Liverpool have stepped up so far. Today’s reports about Arsenal are rather speculative so we’re not convinced that they have actually made any kind of formal or informal approach as yet. However, Arsenal are, of course, interested in him.

We would advise that you pay attention to the De Ligt chatter between now and the summer. But, as we keep pointing out, this would, in our opinion, be a difficult deal for the Reds to secure. Liverpool negotiator Michael Edwards will in the meantime do his best.

Ongoing updates on this can be found on our members’ website here.

We bought De Ligt on the Football Index when we first reported his interest. We hope you did too as his valuation has risen since then and it will no doubt continue to rise. Get on him before his price soars!

Kingsley Coman has been given the all clear to face Liverpool in the Champions League on Tuesday despite fears that he had sustained a serious injury in Bayern’s 3-2 Bundesliga win at Augsburg last night.

The 22-year-old winger gave a cry and went down following a challenge from Augsburg’s Kevin Danso late in stoppage time  and limped off following an examination of his ankle from Bayern’s team doctor.

He had put in an impressive man-of-the-match performance during the game, scoring twice and providing an assist for their 3rd. There were serious concerns that he would miss the tie against Liverpool but Bayern claim that’s not going to be the case.

<<– Buy football club shares online in minutes –>>

Coman took a knock on the same ankle which has previously been operated on twice. In December, Coman said he would retire from football if he suffered any more serious problems with it.

Last night, Bayern boss Niko Kovač told reporters: “According to the doctors, it doesn’t look good, but we have to wait for the examinations.”

However, Coman underwent an MRI scan this morning and the results apparently show that nothing was broken and that there was no ligament damage.

Bayern Tweeted this morning: ‘Good news! The doctors have given Kingsley Coman the all clear to face LFC on Tuesday.’

Arjen Robben is ruled out of Tuesday’s game while Thomas Muller is suspended.

Former Netherlands international René van der Gijp believes Matthijs de Ligt should make the switch to Liverpool if the Reds go calling so that he can forge one of the best defensive partnerships in Europe alongside Virgil van Dijk.

Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp is interested in signing the 19-year-old Ajax centre-back who is attracting interest from a host of major European outfits including the likes of Barcelona and Juventus while closer to home, Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester City have all been linked.

Despite being represented by controversial super agent Mino Raiola and the suggestion that De Ligt is said to have told team-mates that he would be up for a move to La Liga giants Barcelona, Liverpool are currently examining if there is a possibility of them brokering a deal for him in the summer. This has been confirmed by well-placed sources.

<<– Buy football club shares online in minutes –>>

Former Netherlands winger Van der Gijp would welcome the idea as he believes De Ligt teaming up with Van Dijk at Anfield would be great for the Oranje.

He said: “It would be great for Dutch football if those two defenders can play alongside each other for five to six years.

“Then you are getting the best centre-back pairing in Europe.”

We can definitely understand Der Gijp’s thinking here. It would be a great pairing and one that we’d certainly welcome. However, we are concerned about Raiola’s involvement with the player and that could prevent this from ever becoming a real possibility.

Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp is interested in signing highly-rated Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt.

The 19-year-old centre-back has been under ongoing observation by Liverpool scouts for some time and Anfield officials are making firm enquiries behind the scenes about a possible deal for the Ajax skipper.

Securing a transfer wouldn’t come cheap and there are a host of major clubs from around Europe who are interested in him. However, there is a feeling within Anfield that De Ligt’s fellow countryman and international team-mate Virgil van Dijk could help influence the player into making the switch should a deal be brokered between Ajax and Liverpool.

<<– Buy football club shares online in minutes –>>

Ajax, who currently sit 2nd in the Eredivisie 6 points behind leaders PSV, are in no rush to sell but offers around £70million could tempt them to do business.

There are a few reports circulating today that mention Matthijs de Ligt and that’s prompted us into publishing this article confirming our interest in him. Earlier this week information was posted on the KopTalk Members website from a well placed and reliable source who stated that Liverpool were making an attempt to recruit the player.

He said: “We are making a move for Matthijs de Ligt but there’s a lot of competition.

“I think it’s more of a let’s try and see because Barcelona have been favourites for a long while.

“He’s also previously expressed an interest in playing in La Liga.”

The source is of course correct in saying that Barcelona have a very strong interest in De Ligt. It would appear that he is a primary target of the Catalan giants and if you choose to believe the reports, De Ligt favours a move to them over other clubs that have been mooted as having an interest in him. If, however, Liverpool secure major silverware this season, that could help our pursuit in landing De Ligt.

Manchester City, Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal have also been linked with De Ligt but as yet, none of them appear to have made an approach.

Liverpool could finance a deal for De Ligt and it’s possible that they could beat off the competition to land him, there is though one other issue that could cause a problem; the player’s agent. De Ligt’s decision to join forces with controversial super-agent Mino Raiola will not help things. Liverpool executives allegedly have no time for him at all and it’s a feeling that appears to be shared amongst most Premier League clubs.

Despite the negatives, Liverpool are still looking at things to see if there’s a possibility of a deal somewhere down the line.

As previously reported on KOPTALK, Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Nico Elvedi (22) is also on Klopp’s radar.

More on our interest in De Ligt can be found on this ongoing conversation on the members’ website.

Gini Wijnaldum has returned to training after recovering from his recent bout of sickness.

The Liverpool midfielder did feature in the 3-0 win over Bournemouth last weekend and even found himself amongst the goals but he has been unable to train with the squad at this week’s camp in Spain until now.

<<– Buy football club shares online in minutes –>>

Commenting on the situation, Reds’ boss Jürgen Klopp said: “Gini didn’t train yet, that’s of course not cool after a very intense game for him.

“So he had a little dip, but will start today so that’s good.”

The Liverpool manager will hopefully welcome back Wijnaldum for next week’s Champions League tie against Bayern Munich. Earlier today he said he was unsure if defender Dejan Lovren would be able to make the game.

Jürgen Klopp says he’s having to prepare for next week’s Champions League tie against Bayern Munich without Dejan Lovren in mind.

The Liverpool defender was left behind when the squad flew out for their training camp in Spain to continue his rehabilitation from the hamstring injury that he sustained against Wolves in the FA Cup 3rd Round last month.

Joe Gomez is already ruled out due to injury while Virgil van Dijk is suspended for the first leg tie meaning that Joël Matip is the only centre-back that is currently available for selection.

<<– Buy football club shares online in minutes –>>

Fabinho or Jordan Henderson could be deployed alongside Matip if Lovren misses out. Fabinho was deployed as a centre-back in that FA Cup tie against Wolves and also the 1-0 Premier League win at Brighton a few days later. Henderson was originally due to play centre-back against Wolves but was injured in training the day before the match.

Providing an update to the official Liverpool FC website, the boss said: “I don’t want to rule it out but I cannot really plan with it.

“He is not here for good reasons, because he cannot be part of training.

“We are back on Friday. Then from Saturday on, Dejan is back at Melwood and we will see. But, of course, we have to prepare it differently.

“If Dejan gives a sign on Monday – ‘I feel brilliant’ – then we’d have to think anew.

“But in the moment we prepare the game and in this preparation Dejan is not involved. We have to find other solutions.”

  • Dejan Lovren is currently trading at £1.00 on the Football Index at the time of writing

After another dominant home performance against Bournemouth, can Liverpool keep winning to keep the pace up at the top? Can they handle the pressure? Let’s take a look at the fixtures coming up for Klopp’s men.

The Great Derby Ahead

Next up in the league for Liverpool is an easy trip to Old Trafford. Jokes aside, this match is the biggest derby between the two sides for a while. Manchester United have the chance to dent Liverpool’s title hopes, and I think everyone reading this will agree that Liverpool just cannot afford to lose this. The points dropped first and foremost will allow City to creep in front again, but the endless jibes at the hands of United fans are just not welcome at this stage of the season. Granted, Solskjaer has got United playing well, but they now play with a style that will suit the likes of Salah, Mane and Firmino. They should get plenty of chances to burst forward and, hopefully, nick a goal or two in the process. A draw wouldn’t be the worst result in the world, but a defeat is unthinkable, not least for the morale of the players, staff and the fans for the remaining games.

Liverpool has been priced up at a very tempting 29/20 with most bookmakers to win at United. That’s well worth considering adding to your accumulator! If you love having a punt on the football at the weekends, it’s definitely worth signing up to a new bookie to take advantage of their welcome bonus. There are plenty out there who offer free bets if you want to put a little extra on the match but don’t want to dip into your own funds. Bet365 is one example. They’re arguably the best bookie around, so why not use a bet365 bonus code and grab some extra money to back Liverpool with.

About the Remaining Games

Liverpool should dispose of Watford at home a few days after the trip to Manchester easily enough, then it’s the blue side of Merseyside at Goodison on March 3rd.

A potential banana skin? Not a chance. Marco Silva’s side are in freefall, and if he’s still in charge by the time this fixture comes around, expect a comfortable away win. If Silva’s dismissed and a new man is in charge of this game, that could be trickier with the new manager impetus in Everton’s favour. We’ve seen it all too many times. A new manager comes into a club that has not won in about five months, then they win three on the bounce. Klopp and the players will be ready for this, though, and they’ll breeze past the Toffees.

Burnley and Fulham are up next. Six easy points there, which could make it 15 points from 15. Then it’s Spurs at home at the end of March.

Spurs are a good team, there’s no denying that. However, they’re coming to Anfield, which is a fortress nowadays. And Chelsea, they’re the next home fixture after Spurs. They’re both tough games, but if the same Chelsea show up that went to the Etihad, then it could be double figures. It’s 34 home Premier League games since Liverpool last tasted defeat at Anfield. They could well go the whole season unbeaten at home, which is probably needed to keep up the pace at the top in the hunt for glory.

Southampton away is in between Spurs and Chelsea, then it’s Cardiff, Huddersfield, Newcastle and Wolves to round off the season. You’d expect 12 points from those last four games.

Looking at City’s remaining games, they’ve also got to go to Old Trafford in March, and they host Spurs in April. They’re the two crucial games that will decide the title. If they drop points in those, likewise with Liverpool against the same sides, then we’ll know where the Premier League trophy will end up. Can Spurs win the title? Absolutely, but we all know what they’ve been like under pressure over the years.

It’s going to be close. Every Liverpool fan will be praying it’s their year, finally. Champions League fixtures could well play a part in terms of fatigue so it will come down to squad depth, and who can hold their nerve. City has been there and done it before, but Liverpool looks a different proposition this season. Virgil Van Dijk’s been a monster at the back, and if he stays on top of his game, it’s difficult to look beyond Klopp’s men. Manchester City, Liverpool or Spurs? Let’s hope it’s red ribbons on the trophy come May.
