Knitfest is a not For Profit Community Group run by volunteers. We encourage people to bring their knitting needles, crochet hooks and basket weaving for random acts of craft in the street. We want to expose the many Fibre artists, arts and crafts groups, knitting for causes groups, artisan groups and craft suppliers in a fun filled family weekend.
Hi everyone. This weather hasn’t let up and has caused a few changes to our Program.
The Dark Skies night with the Brisbane Astronomical Society has been cancelled as complete cloud cover is expected on the night. They’ll be back again next year.
The Raw Fleece Expo has has to move venues at the Maleny Showgrounds due to the ovals being so wet, they can’t be used at the moment. The Fleece judging will now be held at the Exhibition Pavillion (next to the Community Gym) which is located under the Main Pavillion, directly opposite the Park’n’Ride.
The Alpaca judging is now located at the Apex Bar opposite the Crochet Club in the showgrounds. We’re sorry for any inconvenience.
We are an all weather event, the rest of Knitfest will go ahead as planned.
Knitfest would like to send a big thank you to our major sponsors, the Economic Development Dept at Sunshine Coast Council and Visit Sunshine Coast for their support. They have a lot of great people who have really got behind the event over the past few years. We’d especially like to thank Councillor Jenny McKay, Peter Egan and Emily Roberts from Economic Development and Krystel Stevenson from Visit Sunshine Coast who have all worked closely with us this year. Without their support, this event would not have happened.
For this two hour workshop, participants will delight using, fallen tree fibres, string, old jeans, t-shirts, plastic vegetable bags and potato bags, to create baskets of colour, vibrancy and functionality. Participants are welcome to bring old favourite pieces of fabric, string, cording…or even old jeans they can cut up, all materials required, other than favourite bits you may like to bring, are provided.
