I'm still here after a busy summer and I've had several people reach out to me through the blog that would like to post some information. Here is some great infographics that explain what we can do to help our kids with survival skills. Sometimes we get so bogged down with the day to day of school, it's good to remember these types of things.
Thanks for sharing it Mike!
Let me know what you think! Have you tried some of these things with your students and kids?
I just uploaded the latest math activity Thursday! Do you ever buy doilies because they look neat but then don't know what to do with them? I do! So, I have some suggestions of what you can do with those doily packs you have around your house or classroom : )

This video is about making place value system models... pretty fun stuff!

I hope everyone is having a fun summer and having fun with their kids or having an enjoyable break from the classroom : )
Let me know if you have any ideas you want to share for math activity Thursday : )
It's been a busy day and so I understand with graduations going right and left if you haven't had a chance to check out the awesome project on Kickstarter... Here is your chance!
Did you know it is National Best Friends day?! I have a couple of best friends and they both live in San Antonio, Texas now : ) I got to visit them a year ago and it was a total blast! I hope you have a great day! I will be posting my Math activity Thursday a bit later, so feel free to check back!
Okay, hopefully the post title made you intrigued... It is day two of my Kickstarter but I had made some interesting math connections with it. For example, my campaign for Trouble with Monkeys: a math concept story of place value runs for 33 days in total, so I decided to to divide it up into trimesters with 11 days each. So, in order to reach the goal of $12,000 to fund the Kickstarter I will need to raise about 3.33% each day.
Unfortunately, my adorable, wonderfully educational picture book project is failing at the moment.--it's day two and we are up to 1.275% So, what needs to happen? We need to talk it up! Let's tweet, share, and support this adorable book baby! It can't be published without some love from everyone : )
Please check out the Kickstarter page, see if you want to pledge anything, but please remember that if we don't hit the goal nobody will be charged and we can't make the book since I won't have enough funds to pay the illustrator and printer. Let's make the book a reality!
Let me know if you have any ideas for me--I'd love to hear them : )
It's a busy day! I just launched an awesome Kickstarter for a picture book that has been in the works for years! I was able to get a little pre-press with the awesome Denise Gaskins on her blog, Let's Play Math, this past Saturday. I was SO excited to see that my Kickstarter will be running alongside GregTangMath!
If you want to see and share the campaign the link is here: http://kck.st/2sdPs6FAnd if you want to share any of the tweets and images I made those can be found here!
Here is the YouTube video of my campaign!

Let's show that math literature has a place in the kids book market!
I was so excited to see this short and sweet video completed. My son and I had a fun time with our toy cars and you can too : )

What kind of hands-on math activities are you doing with your kids? Have you ever used toy cars in your classroom?
Also, I'm super excited to give you a sneak peek into my upcoming project! On June 6th my Kickstarter campaign goes live! If you want to look at it here is the link to the planned campaign! It will only run through July 8th (Math 2.0 Day) and the more eyes and backers I have on it at the beginning will be great!
I have an exciting new music video for you! My singing wasn't stellar, but I think the video came out nicely : )
It's The Hours of the Day Song where we sing all the different hours of the day!

Let me know what you think by leaving a comment here or on YouTube : ) I really appreciated Happy Sunshine Friends for collaborating with me! They have really cute songs on their channel. You can check them out at www.youtube.com/happysunshinefriends
We have been working on this collab for about a month and a half. I'm happy to deliver this one to you and I'll see you back next week for Math activity Thursday!
Oh my, I just found this after working at the computer for a while...
It was made by my 4-year old! He is such an engineer! He loves playing with Mag-Formers and always makes some pretty awesome designs, but this was by far the coolest I have seen! It's three dimensional too!
It is Thursday and instead of a Math activity Thursday post I have a great review of an online resource... it's SmarTick method!
It is a 15-minute math review/explorations that kids complete before they get to play in a little virtual world and play the extra games. My four kids tried it out and I share in this video a bit how that went.
Smartick Method Review - Great math app/website for kids! Kids Math Teacher - YouTube
SmarTick staff says, "SmarTick does not follow the official curriculum or State standards. SmarTick prepares your child to advance faster than in school and beyond what’s taught in the classroom. 94% of our students improve their grades in school."
After my kids tried out their services I can see why! It is a great program that works with mental calculation, algebra, problem-solving and critical thinking skills., and includes logic exercises too!
You should try out the program and see if your kids enjoy it. I know I loved whenever my five year old would ask to play because I knew she was really working as she did her 15 minutes of practice.
Have a great week!
