Happy July! It’s that time again where I’ll pull one Soul Clarity Card for each person who leaves a comment below!

I do this on the first day of every month, and it’s always so much fun to offer these messages straight from my soul to yours.

Before we get started though, I wanted to share a few updates with you!

1. Last Chance to Share a Story in our 365 Book Series!

We have a special announcement to share with you. Just in case you haven’t heard this yet, we wanted you to know that 365 Soulful Messages (coming out this November) will be the final book in our 365 Book Series.

If you’ve been feeling called to share your message in this series, this is your last chance to do so. There are almost 300 spots filled in the book right now, so please be sure to sign up soon! You can do so by clicking here.

This book is about sharing a soulful message that you received from someone either here on Earth or on the other side that impacted your life in a positive way. And the stories that we’ve already received have touched our souls! We can’t wait to read more and see how this book comes together!

We began this series 4 years ago, and almost 1000 authors have shared such uplifting stories in these books. They’ve reached so many people all across the world and have touched so many lives. We’ve gotten emails from people saying that they helped their loved ones during times of great sadness, they helped others know that they weren’t alone when they most needed to know that, and they’ve been a light in the darkness for many. And we believe that this final book will be such a great ending to the series.

If you’re a past contributor in our series, we have a special discount for you. (Just reply to this email so we can send you the details.)

We love paying it forward and are offering one free spot to each person who signs up for 3 (which they can either keep or give away to someone else who would like to writing a story in the book)!

We hope you’ll decide to be part of this final book – we know it’s going to be a special one! And we would love to celebrate together the end of such a magical series.

Free Message:

The Soul Clarity Card deck includes 48 cards to help you get clarity on what your soul wants you to know. They come wrapped up in an organza bag and include an amethyst gemstone (which helps you connect with your soul).

My soul speaks to me in concise phrases, and so these cards were created with that in mind. Each card contains a guided action for you to consider – something to help you live soulfully and mindfully.

I believe that the answers are always within us, but sometimes our light gets covered up by life – all of the to-dos and the shoulds and work and errands and hurt and anger and all sorts of gunk. And it can be hard to sift through all of that and find our way home – back to our soul. These cards are a tool to help you on your journey back home.

Each card contains words that your soul needs you to hear. And whichever card you choose will be exactly the one you need in that exact moment. That’s just how it works!

Here’s how it works: I’ll pull one card for anyone who leaves a comment at the end of the post by 11:59 pm pst today (7/1)! If your comment is posted before then, I promise I will pull a card for you. Each month when I open this up, I receive hundreds of requests, so please be patient with me. (If you happen to miss this deadline, please know that I’ll do it again on 8/1.)

All you have to write is “Yes, please!” or something similar. Please don’t feel that you need to share what you are looking to heal or what you would like guidance for. You are more than welcome to, but it’s not necessary. I know that this can be very personal, and your soul and the universe already know what you need. (If you are reading this via a reader or email, please click here to be taken to the post.)

A technical tip for you: Do not subscribe to comments when you leave a comment below. If you do, you’ll receive tons of emails. Instead, you can go to the comments page and do a search for your name later in the day after I’ve had a chance to pull your card. (On a PC, you press the “control” button + the “f” button.) This makes it super easy to scroll to your name and your reading.

(Please note that I start the readings around 10 am pst on the 1st.)

Big hug to each of you.

PS: Remember that there’s still space to share your soulful message in our final book in our 365 Book Series! We hope you’ll join us! We can’t wait to read your stories! Details here: http://www.365soulfulmessages.com.

Soul Speak by Jodi Chapman - 1M ago

One of the things that I love most about our time here on Earth is that we get to decide when it’s time to let something go and when to declare a fresh start for ourselves. We get to reach beyond the dark and allow ourselves to move toward the light.

As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, this year has been tough so far. I lost two loved ones. I had childhood trauma resurface. I was sick for over a month. I went through a few health scares that shook me deeply.

During this time, I kept having dreams that my foundation was crumbling beneath me, and all I could do was try to hang on and not get too hurt in the process. I am a firm believer that we’re never given more than we can handle, but boy has this belief been tested over these last few months.

However, I’m still here. The sun is still shining. Dan and I just celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary. The beach is still just as magical as ever. I am surrounded by such a loving community. I have access to a wonderful team of doctors and healers who are so helpful. My body, heart, mind, and soul are all working together to make sure I come out of all of this stronger than before.

And what I’m finding is that even in the midst of deep grief and illness and anxiety and health issues and trauma, there’s still so much that is working, that is right, that is good. And that’s what I’ve decided to focus on.

I turned 44 on the 7th, which felt like a defining moment in many ways. I wasn’t planning on celebrating my birthday this year because of all of the pain and heartache that’s surrounded me. When I woke up that morning, however, I looked out the window and saw that the sun was shining (a surprise since it was supposed to be raining all day). And it was like a flip switched in my mind and heart, and I decided that this would be the day that I got back on track – this would be the day that I reset my mind and shifted my focus back to love, gratitude, and positivity. And while it was completely natural to have been focusing on my grief and health issues prior to that, it felt like it was time to move forward.

I mentioned to Dan that I thought we should head to the beach and celebrate there since this is our favorite place in the world. And so we did. We spent the day admiring sea lions, basking in the sun, watching the waves, and enjoying our time together. It felt good to be alive. It felt good to be in my body. It felt good to shift my focus away from all of the things that had felt so dark and heavy. It felt good to welcome in the light again.

Since then, I’ve noticed that I’ve been feeling much better in so many ways. No, my health isn’t perfect and yes I’m still grieving, but the heaviness has lifted. The light is back, which I’m so grateful for.

So much is changing both internally and externally for me right now. I feel more exposed – like my outer shell hasn’t had time to harden – like all of me is malleable and I’m not sure where my cells will land and what form I’ll take when all is said and done. Change can be scary. The unknown can be scary. But I’ve decided to do my best to see this time as a gift – to spend it reflecting on what I want and what I need to do to make my desires become my reality. To give myself permission to let go of anything that no longer feels like the person I am today so that I can welcome in what does feel more aligned with my soul. To embrace all of the changes that are on the horizon, knowing that they are all happening for my highest good. And to always know that I get to decide how to view what’s happening in my life. And to know that wherever I am is okay. It’s necessary to go through the darkness in order to fully appreciate the light. Well, I’m ready to appreciate it now. And that feels good.

If you’re in your own darkness, please know that my heart is with you. And if you’re also in a space where you can look for glimpses of light, then I’m glad we’ll be doing that together.

Hugs,

P.S. Last chance to share your message in the 365 Book Series – this will be our final book! If your dream is to become a published author and be part of our soulful writing community, be sure to sign up to contribute to 365 Soulful Messages soon while there’s still space. Almost 300 days are already reserved, so be sure to sign up soon! You can learn all about it here: https://www.365soulfulmessages.com. (Thank you so much to each of you who have already signed up!)

Some of you may not know that my grandma sadly passed away earlier this month just after her 94th birthday. She was my security growing up, and she will be greatly missed. I also have been dealing with a very stubborn round of bronchitis that’s just now starting to ease up, so I stepped away from the online world for almost a month to heal my body and heart. And I’m so grateful to each of you who have sent healing prayers and loving energy my way. I felt it all, and I’m so appreciative that I get to be surrounded by such sweet souls – now more than ever. It’s my hope that I’ll be back into the swing of things soon. For now, I’m glad that I’m feeling well enough to do these readings for you all! I’ve created something new, and I’m both excited and nervous to share it with you. I wrote a novel called The Breakdown, which I’ll be releasing this summer! And…it’s part of a 3-book series, which will all be released by the end of next year!

So this is good news, right? I’m a writer, and I’ve written something that I’m proud of, that I can fully stand behind. I feel that I’ve given the main character a voice that needs to be heard and am telling a story that needs to be told. So, why am I feeling so nervous then?

Well, for one thing, this is my first venture into writing fiction (other than a few overly dramatic stories that I wrote in college, which are one of the reasons why I decided early on that, while I knew I was a writer, I definitely wasn’t a fiction writer). So I swore up and down that I would never write novels, that I didn’t have the imagination for them, and that they just weren’t for me. I’ve spent the last decade writing spiritual non-fiction, writing books about the soul and hopefully offering inspiration to those who read them. This type of writing became my identity. It’s how you all know me. It’s how I know myself. So, I had to spend some time grappling with the fact that I may be expanding, that I may be growing, that I may be changing. And I had to ask myself whether that was an okay thing to give myself permission to do.

I definitely didn’t go looking for fiction. It just showed up on my computer page one day. I felt the urge to open up a blank document, and words poured out onto it just as quickly as I could type them. I was surprised by what I read. It wasn’t my voice. It wasn’t my story. But, while I knew that this story didn’t belong to me, it felt so real. I could feel the pain behind the words. I could feel the hurt and the heartbreak and the anger. And I immediately knew that I needed to tell this story: Morgan’s story (the main character). What I wrote that day ended up becoming the prologue for the first book in the series; and as soon as it was written, I became obsessed with getting more of her story out onto the page. Morgan needed a voice, and I needed an escape. I had some pretty dramatic health issues pop up that were scary for me, and our sweet kitty, Elsie, had just passed away from a very unexpected stroke. My world was spinning, and it felt like Morgan and I were clinging to each other for dear life. To survive, all we could do was show up each day and get this story written.

Morgan was real. I felt her so deeply. I still feel her so deeply. And I feel honored that she chose me to tell her story. I feel a deep responsibility to get it right, to tell her truth, to not sugarcoat it because I’m afraid that others will be put off by her abruptness and her deep pain. I have never rocked the boat before professionally. I hate conflict. I want everyone to like me. And I especially don’t want anyone to be mad at me. So, I had to decide whether I felt strong enough to put myself and my writing out there in such a raw and vulnerable way…in such a different way where those who knew me could be surprised or even offended.

My original plan was to write this series under a pen name. That would be safe. That would keep everything nice and neat. I could still write my spiritual books and could also tell Morgan’s story and no one would ever have to know that I was the author of all of them. But the thought of doing things this way hurt my stomach. It didn’t feel authentic. I want to be brave enough to change, to stretch, to push my own boundaries. And I’ve always shared whatever growth I was experiencing here, with each of you. So hiding it just didn’t feel good at all. But sharing it feels completely petrifying.

So, here’s what I’ll say to you: this new series is raw and emotional. And it may be hard for some of you to read. While it can be funny and light, there are also moments of deep pain and heartbreak. There’s swearing and anger, but there’s also hope and love. It’s real. And it’s relatable. I see so much of myself in Morgan, and I feel that, if you give her a chance, you may see parts of yourself in her, too. She’s been through so much, but she’s still fighting. She hasn’t given up, and that’s what I love about her. And if she won’t give up, than neither will I. I’m going to do whatever I can do make sure these books get read, get seen, get out into the world. I owe that to her and also to myself.

So, if you’re on board with reading this series, then I’m so happy about that. And it’s my hope that you’ll enjoy it, and learn about yourself while reading it, and end up loving Morgan as much as I do. And if you’re not comfortable with reading it, then know that this is perfectly okay. What I want more than anything is for each of us to give ourselves permission to show up in the world in the way that feels the most authentic to who were are right in that moment.

And this is who I am right now. And I’m sure I’ll be someone else in the future. That’s part of being human: allowing ourselves to expand and not holding ourselves back from potential discomfort because we’re afraid of stepping into the unknown.

Fiction is my unknown. And I’m not just dipping my toes into it. I’m stepping into it with both feet. I’m splashing around. And I’m completely soaked.

And I’m excited. And I feel free. More free than I’ve felt in quite a long time.

I’m letting myself out of the box that I placed myself in all those years ago. I’m giving myself permission to explore what else is out there with the hopes that it too will inspire and uplift, just in a different way.

So, I think it’s time to introduce you to Morgan Wells, my main character and my very first fiction novel!

You can learn all about it here and even sign up to read the first chapter.

It’s my hope that you’ll enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

And, I can’t wait to share the entire book with you this summer. I’ll have some fun things planned then, such as live discussions, giveaways, interviews, and more!

Here’s to each of us following our hearts and allowing them to lead us to new and exciting experiences. That’s living. That’s freedom. That’s showing up. And I love that.

Thank you for being on this journey with me.

Hugs,

P.S. – Thank you so much to each of you who signed up to share your stories in our next 365 book! There’s still some space if you haven’t joined yet and are feeling called to. You can learn more here: http://www.365soulfulmessages.com.

Soul Speak by Jodi Chapman - 3M ago

The other day, I was on a video call with someone who is helping me release some painful experiences from my childhood that have recently resurfaced. Together, we went back to talk to my younger self, to let her know that she was going to be okay…more than okay. I was asked to share what my seven-year-old self was doing, and I told her that I was sitting in the closet in my childhood bedroom, all wrapped up in my Smurfette sleeping bag, eating some of the Halloween candy that I had stashed (that was now months old), and reading a book with my flashlight. (Closets were always my safe haven in every house I lived in as a child – they were a place I could go to journal, to gather my thoughts, and most of all, to feel safe.)

The facilitator asked me to share what I was reading, and I immediately said The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. She was taken aback and asked me why, out of all of the books that I could have chosen to read, did I choose that one. I said that I didn’t know – that it wasn’t something I questioned. It was just the first image that came to mind.

We talked more about it and then moved on to other things. Before we ended the session, though, she asked me to read the book and see how I felt about it now, as an adult. So, as soon as I disconnected from our call, I went online and found a full text version of the book and read it. And I was shocked that it wasn’t how I remembered it at all. In the story, which I’m sure many of you have read, a healthy tree meets a young boy and offers him all she has – shade, apples, leaves, branches, and eventually everything…until all she is left with is a stump. The boy – who grows into an old man throughout the story – doesn’t seem to truly appreciate any of these gifts, yet the tree still gives them to him.

As a child, I remember loving this book. I thought that the tree was so good and giving and honorable. As an adult, I see things very differently. I wish she had taken care of herself – given from her overflow – and allowed her trunk and branches to stay intact. I wish she had seen that by giving and giving and giving and giving some more, she would eventually not be able to give anything at all. Yes, at the end, she gave the man a stump to sit on, which was just what he needed, but it was always about his needs and never about her own. She was giving because it felt good for her to do so, which so many of us can relate to. And yet, if we do this unconsciously – without taking a moment or two to make sure that our own needs are met – we’ll end up with just a stump as well. Our branches and trunk and fruit and shade and beauty will be gone forever.

As a child, I wanted to please everyone, especially my parents. I wanted to make them happy so that I would be loved. I wanted to be the best version of me that I thought they wanted me to be. And I didn’t even think about my own needs. It never even occurred to me to make sure that my proverbial cup was full. I didn’t even know I had that option. I just did what I was told and then tried going above and beyond that to keep the peace and to be praised and receive love.

And this pattern continued into adulthood, and, if I’m being completely honest, it’s something that I still struggle with. I tend to overgive and overdeliver to others at my own expense. And I’ve paid a high price for this. At many points in my life, I have become my own version of a stump. My body would warn me that it needed me to replenish it, that it needed me to slow down, that it needed nourishment, and yet I would still give. Because I wanted to be loved.

But I’m finally realizing how silly – and harmful – this insatiable need for external love and validation truly is. We have to love ourselves first and then give from the overflow. I know this. I’ve known it for years. But, if I’m not conscious of it, I still find myself slipping back into this old pattern of overgiving. And I’m so grateful that this image of seeing my younger self reading this book reminded me in such a visual way that it really is time to stop this. I don’t want to just be a stump for someone to sit on. I want to blossom and bloom and flourish. I want to have flowers and fruit and shade. I want to feel good, and I also want others to feel good. And I know that, unlike the tree in the story, it’s not too late for me. I still can flourish. I still can bloom. But I have to make some changes if that’s going to happen.

So, I’ve decided to bring my younger self new books next time. I’m going to sit beside her in the closet, and together we’re going to read books that are filled with positivity and joy. We’re going to read books that give both of us permission to take care of ourselves and make sure our own needs are met. We’re going to learn together that feeling happy and fulfilled is a good thing. And from that happiness, we’ll be able to care for others. And I’m hoping that, if I’m lucky enough, she’ll be kind enough to let me have one of her candy bars. We’ll see.

Seriously, though, it’s my hope that if you’re living your own version of The Giving Tree that you’ll make sure to give just as much to yourself as you do to others. Let your giving be sustainable. Let it be beneficial to you and to those you give to. Let it be a healthy form of giving. Let it feel good for you, too. Because it matters. You matter. We all matter. And I would love to imagine all of us as flourishing, blossoming, and healthy trees.

Hugs and love,

P.S. There’s just over a week left to sign up to share your story of a soulful message that you received in our next 365 book at the discounted price! You can learn all about it and sign up here: http://www.365soulfulmessages.com. (Thank you so much to each of you who have already joined us. We can’t wait to read your stories!)

Soul Speak by Jodi Chapman - 3M ago

When I started this blog all those years ago, I promised that I would be authentic here. I promised that I would show up and share the truth – the good times, the uncertain times, and also the hard times. Well, I’m going to keep that promise today by sharing that this year has been a tough one so far. In fact, it’s one of the hardest that I can remember having in many, many years.

It started in January with some health issues that popped up for me seemingly out of the blue. I was scared because I didn’t know what was happening to my body.

And then on February 10th, also completely out of the blue, our healthy nine-year-old kitty, Elsie, suffered a stroke and passed away. Just that morning, she had been the picture of perfect health – lying in the sunshine with us, yelling for her canned food, enjoying her extra loving pets that Dan always gave her in the morning while she was sitting on her tall perch. And then she was gone. Just like that. She brought the sunshine into our life, and we’re still trying to pick up the pieces of a home without her in it.

Meanwhile, my health continued to get worse. And I finally had to realize something: that I needed help. I needed to lean on others. I didn’t know how to get through this alone.

So I assembled a team of doctors and healers to help me sift through what was happening so that I could find my grounding again, so that I could feel normal again. I’ve had to lean more than ever on Dan. I’ve had to pull back from our writing communities in order to take care of myself. I needed to admit to myself that I couldn’t do it all.

And this has all been really, really hard. It’s so easy to give, but it’s not always so easy to receive.

There are so many lessons here that I’m still in the midst of learning. I am seeing that I still have so much to learn about self-care and self-love and the mind/body connection and slowing down and being still and allowing myself to let go and forgive and move forward. I am seeing that I’ve been neglecting my body yet still expecting that it will somehow keep up, which definitely isn’t fair. And I am seeing how all of this fear that I have held onto for so many reasons for so many years isn’t helping me or serving me in any way at all. It’s time to release it, to be free of it. I’m seeing how I’ve allowed myself to get so far off track from what I know is good for me, focusing on the negative instead of the positive, focusing on what isn’t working instead of all that is.

So, I’m in the midst of getting super clear within my own heart about what it needs. And asking my body what it is screaming at me to know, to really know. I’m listening to it, to my doctors, to my healers, to my loved ones, to the universe. I’m listening. I’m surrendering. Because that’s really all I feel I can do right now.

I am leaning in. And feeling deep gratitude to be surrounded by so much love.

I love that it’s spring now. I look outside and see new life blooming and sprouting up all over the place. I feel the newness of the season and the possibility that it brings. And I get to hear the calming rain each day, which cleanses my soul in such a deep way. Each day I see and feel hope. I notice that my thoughts are more positive. I see evidence that my health is improving. And I feel that my heart is healing. Each day I feel love. And each day I feel immense gratitude for this life that I get to live – even in the hard times. I know how truly lucky I am. And that’s what I’m focusing on. I have so much support around me and so much love. And it’s my hope that when I come out the other side of this, my heart will have expanded in ways that I can now only begin to imagine. Because I trust that this is all happening for my highest good. I know that. But, for now, I’m leaning in. Because sometimes that’s all we can do. And it’s so nice to know that when we do, there’s always someone there to catch us. I’m so grateful for that.

I’m sending love to each of you who have been sending love. I feel it. And I’m letting it soak into every part of me. Love truly does have the power and the ability to heal. That I know for sure. And, thanks to each of you, I’m surrounded by so, so much of it.

P.S. A huge thank you to each of you who have signed up to join us as a contributing author in our next 365 book! We’re so excited to read your stories! If you haven’t signed up yet, you can do so here: http://www.365soulfulmessages.com. (We’re offering a special discount now, too!)

And now, it’s time for your free message!

Here’s how it works: I’ll pull one card for anyone who leaves a comment at the end of the post by 11:59 pm pst today (4/1)! If your comment is posted before then, I promise I will pull a card for you. Each month when I open this up, I receive hundreds of requests, so please be patient with me. (If you happen to miss this deadline, please know that I’ll do it again on 5/1.)

PS: Be sure to sign up soon to share your story in our next collaborative book! We’re offering a special discount this month and already almost 175 spots are reserved, and we look forward to reading your submission! Details here: http://www.365soulfulmessages.com.
