Valid

Would you believe if I tell you that people are busier these days? Every day, we have more to do, with less time to do it. Our available time to do other stuff like running errands is indeed limited. But thanks to technology and the internet, most of our tasks are now made easier.

Imagine receiving money, pay bills, and shop, while you’re still in bed, possible? With Paymaya partnering with Western Union, it’s very much possible and easy! I recently tried this new feature and I’m quite amazed how much time I saved. I feel secure as well as I say goodbye to walking with a huge amount of money in my wallet. I wish they’re all mine but bills are calling so imagine if I lost that money?

Receiving Money From Western Union Using Paymaya

To receive money from Western Union, one main requirement is to update your existing Paymaya account (download and create an account if you still don’t have it). Don’t worry, it’s so easy. Just click on Upgrade button, fill out important fields and upload a Valid ID card. You can then schedule a video call from their customer service agent or if you can’t wait, feel free to click the Call button. It took me around 10 minutes for the whole process. It could have been quicker if only the ID I uploaded was the plastic card one and not the laminated. Their agents were very accommodating so everything ran smoothly for me. All I needed to do was to answer all their questions about my basic personal info and then they took a photo of me during the video call. That was it and my Paymaya was upgraded.

I then proceeded to receive the money sent to me and I tell you, it really was easy! The photos below show the steps I followed and in less than 5 minutes, I received a text from Paymaya about the successful transaction. All you need is the MTCN from Western Union (the sender should give it to you) and the name of the sender.

Hooray! Now I’m ready to pay bills and shop online! There was no need for me to go to Western Union, thus, I was able to save time. This is indeed a very helpful feature especially for those who receive money from their relatives abroad.

And good news, after claiming your Western Union remittance via PayMaya, you are already one step closer to getting a chance to win P10,000 PayMaya credits, P50,000 PayMaya credits, or a whopping P100,000 PayMaya credits by joining their raffle promo!

Many parents have put off the idea of going abroad with their children because they envisage the trip as being stressful and not at all enjoyable, especially if you plan to travel to an exotic destination. However, family vacations offer the perfect environment to create memories that will last a lifetime and are sure to be a time for you and your children to enjoy. Pulling off a trip away to an exotic place with your kids is achievable, and a lot of parents do it.

So, to give you a helping hand, we have put together this useful guide on how to pull off an exotic trip with your kids so that you can enjoy spending time with your family while in an exotic destination.

Pick a Safe Destination

It is important that you seek some advice before you book your trip away and consider asking your travel agent where they would suggest you should go on vacation with your kids. It is pretty obvious that you shouldn’t take your children to a country that is having any civil or military conflicts or suffering from an outbreak of disease. If you were traveling alone, then heading to a country that was undergoing civil unrest may not be a concern, but this all changes when you have your children with you.

You should do your research on the local area of the country you are heading to and make sure that criminality rates aren’t too high. If you book with a reputable travel agent, then they should be able to suggest accommodation that is commonly used by other families and is deemed to be in a safe location. You may also want to check that there is a hospital or emergency department nearby in case you or your children get sick.

Try to Develop a Routine

One of the main reasons why children can act up and misbehave while on vacation is because their routines are broken, and they don’t feel as settled as they do at home. Children get used to their routine and it makes them feel disorientated when this changes. Therefore, whenever possible you should try to develop a routine during your trip. This means getting up around the same time every day, eating meals at normal meal times, and still having a set time to go to bed. This will not only help them feel settled, but it allows the adults to enjoy time alone while the children are sleeping.

Children and Illnesses

It can be very worrying and challenging if your child becomes unwell during your trip away, but this is normal as children can be very susceptible to illnesses. Therefore, you should be prepared for your children to suffer from travellers’ diarrhea while you are away, but ensure that this doesn’t cause them to become dehydrated. One preventative technique is to make sure they are drinking bottled water and not water from the tap if it is unsafe.

You should also be sure to get insurance for your trip so that you can rest assured that if anything were to happen that you would be able to access medical treatment. Be sure to research insurance companies before your trip as you can get policies that are tailored to a specific country. For example, if you are traveling to China then you should check out ChinaExpatHealth as they provide China health insurance for you and your family.

By ensuring that you are prepared for your trip to an exotic destination with your kids, there is no reason that you can’t have an amazing time and make unforgettable memories.

We all work hard for our money. Seeing only scraps of it in your bank account at the end of the month can be really disconcerting, leaving you wondering where it all went. The journey to mastering our finances seems to be a never-ending one, with only 43% of men and 31% of women considering themselves financially knowledgeable.

The least we can do is use every dollar to its full potential. This way, you’ll have more left over for when you’ll inevitably need it. We’ve all made plenty of mistakes in the past with our money but looking back at them is a pointless ordeal. Instead, we should look at ways to maximize our current income and secure our financial future.

Here are five tips that will help you save more – without working more.

Track Your Spending

There’s a reason more and more banks, companies, and app developers are creating spending trackers. Knowing exactly where your money goes is a good way to find out where it shouldn’t go.

Services such as Mint and YNAB allow you to upload your receipts or simply create a link to your bank account. From there, you can get a detailed overview of your spending habits, as well as advice on how to better handle your money.

Set up an Automatic Transfer to Your Savings

Come payday, putting cash aside can be difficult knowing that you’re not supposed to spend it any time soon. With an automatic transfer, the bank does it for you. It’s a great way to have more accountability to save. Just think of how quickly the numbers will add up.

Take Advantage of Online Offers

You’ve probably come across a few ways to make cash online in your spare time. Some are worth it, while others offer fairly minimal rewards for the amount of work required. Since we’re only focusing on ways to maximize your money without extra work, we’ll skip the “work online” route this time.

That said, it’s worth taking a look at the countless offers available on the web that can help you save money. Whether it’s a free beauty kit, a $10 gift card or a box of goodies, every item gained is money saved. You can check this website daily for a compiled list of all the best online freebies and offers to make use of.

Use a Rewards Credit Card

Credit cards can be the death of your finances, but some offer more unique structures that can help you earn instead of burn money. The Citi Double Cash Card, for example, offers a 1% return on your purchases and an additional 1% once they’re paid off. It’s basically free money for doing something you’re already doing.

For 18 months, you can benefit from a 0% annual fee and a 0% APR. It would be wise to take your returns and put them towards a savings account. Be sure to do some research and find rewards cards such as this one, as it’s a great way to earn through something that you have to do.

Create an Investment Portfolio the Easy Way

You don’t need to be a Wall Street entrepreneur with a coke white Lamborghini to be a good investor; nor do you need a thousand dollar-plus budget. With investment apps such as Stash, all you need is $5 and a few minutes of time. The coaching tool helps you choose from the hundreds of stocks, bonds, and funds to build your portfolio.

Conclusion

It’s important to see your money as more than just a means of sustaining your lifestyle. Using it as a tool to make more money will help you save for the future and live comfortably knowing that your financial independence is secure. We know you can do it.

KidSports is the leading retailer of sporting footwear, apparel and accessories specifically tailored to fit children’s or young athletes’ requirements. They carry the latest styles from Nike, Adidas, UnderArmour, New Balance and more! The brand already has other stores located mostly in Metro Manila and one in Davao City. Just last May 1, they opened their newest store in Cebu which is located at Level 2, Ayala Center Cebu, The Alcove (New Wing Expansion).

Days before the opening, I let the kids see the KidSports website and when I told them that we’ll be visiting the new store, they both got really excited. Louise needed new P.E. shoes and Martina needed an easy-fasten pair of shoe, specifically those that use Velcro straps as recommended by her Nursery school. To shop at the newly opened store, I call it perfect timing indeed! Anyway, when we entered the store, one thing that caught my attention was their wide selection of shoes available for toddlers, kids and teens. They have pretty designs to choose from, Louise even had a hard time choosing.

Toddler shoes? KidSports has a lot!
Pink shoes perfect for active little girls

Even though I am a mother of two girls, I still imagine them loving sports as they grow older. And when that time comes, I know for sure where to shop. May it be for soccer, basketball or volleyball, KidSports has enough stocks for you to choose from.

Choosing for kids shoes was hard because of the many designs available but thankfully, Kidsports staff were very friendly and patient, they provided suggestions as well. In the end, the girls and I agreed to get them white pairs of shoes because well, they’re the most versatile shoes. The kids can wear them in school and they’re perfect also for the many hours of walking and running in malls, during travels and many more!

Louise chose the Nike shoes and Martina got the New Balance shoes

Oh how great the kids look while wearing their new white shoes. Louise, Martina and Vania had fun shopping, they’re the first kids who got the latest sports shoes from KidSports in Cebu!

Check out our tour video of KidSports Cebu and see more of their products!

My first visit to Bantayan Island was with Fred, we just started our relationship back then. We got married and few years after, I went back to the island and that time I brought Louise with me. It was a fun trip but I admit it wasn’t smooth because Louise, 2 years old that time, had tantrums several times. I went there with officemates, Fred didn’t come with me so I dealt with her tantrums alone.

Here she was, enjoying the waves:

Kid playing with waves - Louise enjoying the Beach - YouTube

This year, we went back, as a complete family. And for the first time, we took our car on a road-trip going north. For those driving their own cars, you can leave it just before the Hagnaya port, look for private parking areas. The fee was Php 150 per day and since we stayed on the island for 1 night only, we paid Php 300 good for 2 days.

For the ferry, we only experienced Island Shipping, below are their rates:

Adult – Php 185
Senior – Php 148
Kids – Php 92.50
Terminal fee Php 10 per person excluding kids and senior citizens.

To give you an idea if you plan to go there, here’s the timeline of our travel:

4:30 AM – start of our road trip.
5:45 AM – arrived in Danao City, stop over in Jollibee for around 15 minutes for quick pee breaks and to order breakfast. To save time, we just ate in the car while we continue our road trip.
8:00 AM – arrived at Hagnaya port.
10:00 AM – ferry boat departed from Hagnaya port. The schedule was 9:30 but we all know Filipino time, delayed as always.
11:30 AM – arrived at Sta. Fe port.

When we arrived in Bantayan Island, we paid Php 30 (adults only) for the Ecological fee. We already had a resort booking at Anika Resort and we’re glad they offered free pick-up service from the port. Actually, our booking at Anika resort was done last February but due to my mother’s sickness, I emailed them for cancellation. Good thing their front desk officer Sir Rey suggested not to cancel (they give only 50% for a refund). Instead, they extend the validity of our booking up to December 2019. When I contacted him again for the availability of their rooms, we were so lucky we got 1 room on our chosen date.

Good thing about Anika resort which we really loved was that they’re so accommodating. I highly recommend the place, it is peaceful even though they’re fully booked. It seemed like all the other guests got a relaxing time and privacy they all needed, not just us.

For the room rates of the resort, you may visit this page:
https://anikaislandresort.com/accommodation/ . We reserved for the Sunset Poolside which costs Php 2900 but we ended up getting the Garden View Room and paid the additional person fee (we traveled there with my MIL).

Check-in time for the resort though was 2:00 PM so we left our bags in their waiting area and decided to eat in Sta. Fe proper. We chose a carenderia since we’re travelling on a budget. Our tricycle driver offered a tour and we happily agreed. The only problem though, we did not bring sunscreens and swimwear. We only made sure we bring water and snacks for all of us. We really learned a good lesson that day – when exploring the island, one should always be ‘beach-ready’. Anyway, we only got to see two tourist spots because Martina had tantrums already. We paid Php 650 to our tricycle driver which covered the fee from Anika resort to the carenderia, waited around 30 minutes for us while we had our lunch and drove for us to Camp Sawi and Mangrove Eco Farm and to Paradise Beach. He offered to bring us to the cave but the kids got tired already, plus Martina’s already crying for minutes so we really had no choice but to go back to the resort.

It was 2:30 PM when we arrived at the resort and we finally got our room key. I thought we can have a quick rest or perhaps the girls needed a nap but I was wrong, they excitedly changed to their swimwear and head directly to the beach. The girls loved the view, the clear water and white sands but I think they loved the Paradise Beach more. Still, we enjoyed the beach and the pool, we didn’t even noticed the time and realized late that it was almost dinner time.

All of us were so tired so our plan of going back to Sta. Fe proper for dinner did not happen. The girls had their milk and fell asleep early, same thing for my MIL. It was only me and Fred who went out for dinner but decided to just eat in the resort’s restaurant. The prices were not bad but paid Php 1000 for 3 main dishes, 2 beers and a softdrink. We drank beer at the beachfront while enjoying the sounds of the waves and the stars above us. Sounds cheesy but guess what, we talked a lot of things that night that we kinda messed up each other’s mood. Don’t get me wrong but I think this is pretty common for couples haha!

Anyway, it was low tide the whole time we stayed in the resort but that did not stop us from enjoying the place. They had a pool anyway and it was what the kids needed more. Overall, we had fun up to the 2nd day. We skipped the idea of visiting the famous Virgin Island as we plan to visit Bantayan again, only time will tell when. Hopefully, we’ll be staying for at least 2 nights on our next trip.

It’s been a while since I last wrote about my experiences as a mother. Back then, I was still adjusting to being a work-at-home mom (WAHM). Now, as a WAHM for 2.5 years, I am not only a more experienced mother but also, I’m a mom doing more roles every day. Ever since Louise started grade school, I become her driver and also tutor. I never thought I can add these responsibilities to my daily routine but like most moms out there, I always find ways. How? I adjust my sleeping time and waking time. Yes, most moms do this, we sometimes lack sleep just to get all the things done at home.

So even when we’re very tired each day, what is the number 1 reason that we stay positive and happy? If you ask me, it’s always the happiness and health of my children.

Simple Happiness

Giving material things that my kids want does not count here, I don’t want them to depend their happiness on material things. Instead, I and my husband spend time with them. As simple as eating together, watching their favorite movies at home and being playful parents every now and then, these already satisfy their need to feel important and be loved.

A happy environment is what we also provide to them. Our house may be far from instagrammable houses out there which are perfectly clean and with stylish living rooms, bedrooms and kitchen but we make sure that ours is a place where they want to go home because they feel loved and safe. A place where their curious minds are free to explore, a place where they are properly nurtured.

While many say that money is not the key to happiness, time to time we spend money for the kids’ experiences. If we have the budget and they want to go to the playroom, then we say Yes. If we have a few extras and we want to let them experience something new like a summer class perhaps then we say Yes. It’s really OK to spend, especially it’s for something that can help our kids improve their skills, talents and personality.

Grow Healthy

Knowing that my child is healthy enough to do whatever activities she wants is one of the many things that makes me a happy mom. Even though she’s a bit smaller than her age, she rarely gets sick which is what’s more important, especially now being a grade schooler.

And while I don’t pressure her to study her lessons always, I’m glad she’s doing great in school with passing grades and that she participates well in school activities.

As moms, there are many ways we do to make our kids healthy. In my case, together with vitamins, proper nutrition and hygiene, I also give NESTOGROW to my Louise 2x a day to make sure she’s getting enough nutrients.

With Nestogrow, her tummy’s healthy, thanks to Lactobacillus comfortis (L. Comfortis) content. To be honest, I even can’t remember that last time she experienced colic, diarrhea or constipation.

I believe Nestogrow also has helped her to have strong muscles and bones and overall be an active girl so she can also keep up and play with kids of her age.

For more details about Nestogrow contents and benefits, visit their website at https://www.nestogrow.com.ph/.

One thing I really appreciate when I started having a preschooler was the fact that my Louise is already capable of telling me when she’s in pain.  It was such relief by the time she started talking clearer and that I could understand her easier. When I hear words from her about the pain she’s feeling (Louise will say “Ouchie Mommy”), I can’t help but feel worried and exhausted. With tummy pain for example, it’s really hard to stay positive.

Colic or “kabag” in Filipino is a type of abdominal pain which is very common in infants but do you know that older kids can have it as well? Louise had experienced colic several times but thankfully, it wasn’t that bad. Still, it made her uncomfortable. Colic is quite frustrating also for us parents especially if our kids have already been crying for an hour or more at night. There were moments when Louise was supposed to be sleeping well but colic pain has woke her up.

Colic has many causes and the most common are:

1.your child’s tummy is not yet fully developed

2.your child has eaten quite a lot.

3.imbalance of bacteria in the gut

So what to do to manage colic?

Colic Treatment

  1. Massage the tummy – the most common treatment. I also did this before whenever Louise had constipation. Just move your hand in a clockwise direction to let trapped wind to move the right way.
  2. Pedal your child’s legs – If you’re looking for a relaxing and bonding activity, this one will do the trick. It’s also very effective in helping with the release of gas.
  3. Give a warm bath – Louise loves warm water so I don’t have a problem letting her have it any time of the day but if colic is triggered when she’s already in bed, placing a warm wet cloth on her tummy is also a soothing solution.

To avoid triggers of colic, choose milk with Lactobacillus Comfortis, a type of probiotic which makes the tummy stronger and helps in the proper digestion and absorption of nutrients. You can find L. Comfortis in NESTOGROW, a milk brand which is recommended for growing children and also the most affordable.

So far, within the months that Louise is drinking Nestogrow, she hasn’t experienced colic. We’ve done several travels in local places last year and few staycations, thankfully she’s always on-the-go. Even at school, no instances of tummy pain that can make her missed her classes. Whew! Glad she likes her milk and drinks it consistently every day.

While there’s no doubt that Nestogrow is a recommended growing up milk for kids 3-years-old and above and that it helps our kids to have a healthy tummy, it is still best to consult your health care practitioner if your child is experiencing colic.

For more details about Nestogrow contents and how it can help your child, visit their website at https://www.nestogrow.com.ph/.

Louise, as my first-born child, was the first to let me feel the different emotions every first-time mom would feel. The ‘ooohs’ and ‘aaahhs’ for realizations and new learning, the ‘wows’ for joy and excitement and yes, there’s the ‘eeeww’ for things or scenarios that even though disgusting, we deal and study them to see how our child is feeling.

Studying our child’s poop is one of the many things we do since day 1 of being a parent. It can be affected by many things, what they eat, whether they’re ill or not. Most of the time, it’s difficult to know when to worry or not.

So what really is the normal poop color? The most common poop colors, which are:

If the color is quite unusual like red, then try to remember what he/she has eaten during the day. I remember letting Louise eat red icing cake, her red-colored poop really gave me a shock at first!

Poop type or consistency is really the one which is a bit scary for me. We all know what normal poops look like – the long and smooth types.

But when it becomes too hard or worst, watery and loose,  it’s a different story. Years ago, Louise was admitted twice in the hospital due to diarrhea. And she has experienced bad constipation as well. Her poop was so hard that there were times she refused to poop. Those weeks were indeed very stressful for us, more for Louise.

They say prevention is better than cure, so here are the food and drinks to consider giving to our child every day for a normal poop:

  1. Load your child’s plate with fruits and vegetables. Louise is a bit picky eater but I’m glad banana is her number 1 favorite fruit. She’s eating it every day which has helped her to poop daily, without difficulty.

2. Drink more water. While most kids drink water without asking, some though are too busy to play and do their stuff that they need to be reminded to drink water. I’m glad Louise’s classroom has a supply of clean water, she can refill her container when needed. We do check her consumption as well during the fetching time.

3. Milk that helps tummy to be healthy. Louise’s constipation before was mainly due to her milk, that’s why we switched to Nestogrow.

Nestogrow contains Lactobacillus comfortis, a type of probiotic which helps in the digestion and absorption of nutrients. Our child will have a strong and healthy tummy, thanks to these probiotics.

Louise has been drinking Nestogrow for a year now and so far, she’s growing healthily and of course, happy. Nestogrow is indeed the recommended growing up milk that’s perfect also for your child.

For more details about Nestogrow contents and benefits, visit their website at https://www.nestogrow.com.ph/.

It was only when I became a mother that I realized how difficult it is to choose the best products for babies. I remember baby shopping before for the first time, I spent hours just to choose clothes and other baby essentials. I checked and compared the labels, the features and yes, the prices! And years passed, now a mother of two, I still sometimes see myself standing beside the grocery shelf longer, still comparing. And I admit, there were times I chose the cheaper products, diapers specifically. But then, I always end up buying more because the absorbency is very poor. This is why I’m doing the “Less Palit More Sulit” Challenge from Pampers for me to compare my baby’s usage of diapers, using the cheaper brand in Day 1 and Pampers in Day 2.

Day 1 Observation – Using Cheaper Diaper Brand

Since I’m working at home, I can easily check Martina’s diaper. Sadly with the cheaper one, after 3 hours, here’s what happened:

She’s really an active little girl. Even though the diaper wasn’t that full, I have to Because it was too lawlaw and I was worried it would hinder her movements. By 3pm, we’re already on our 3rd diaper and one time I caught her trying to take it off. At 8pm, I prepare her for bedtime but I needed to change the diaper again before I slept at around 11pm because it already got saggy which would cause discomfort during sleeping. At the end of the day, my baby has used 6 diapers!

Day 2 Observation – Using Pampers Baby Dry Pants

On the second day, with Pampers, it was already 6 hours since she wore the diaper, yet she still can move freely, amazingly, it wasn’t ‘lawlaw’. She had a wonderful playtime, look how comfortable and happy she was. I didn’t see her touching it, that only means she loved wearing it. I was also able to work continuously, no need to change her diaper always.

It was again 3PM when I changed her diaper, just before we went out to fetch her older sibling. At the end of the day, we only used 4 diapers! There was even no need for me to change her before my bedtime because it was still OK, still dry to touch.

Amazing Result

I really am amazed! With Pampers, we were able to save 2 diapers in a day, compared to the other brand!!! The best part was really seeing her move and do her daily adventures without hindrance, which can really help with her learning and development. I can say it’s really sulit!
