As the pressure on many of our beloved trail networks increases, so do requirements for scheduled maintenance and trail related amenities like parking, washrooms, kiosks, appropriate signage and garbage cans. This in turn presents its own set of challenges for the grassroots volunteer organization that is typically quarterbacking management of that very same local trail network.

Manitoba is not exactly the first place that may come to mind for a mountain bike destination, but with the work being done in Riding Mountain National Park and surrounding communities, they are well poised to become just that!

Kouchibouguac National Park has long set a great example as a cycling and mountain bike destination. That couldn’t be more evident after my recent visit there as part of the Trail Partners Program!

This past week, I was fortunate to head out to Jasper National Park and work with the Park’s trail crew, the Jasper Park Cycling Association (JPCA) and the Jasper Trails Alliance (JTA) and lead an Advanced Trails Training workshop over the week. Here’s a breakdown of what happened.

Thanks to all our supporters who came to meet with us during the Toronto and Vancouver bike shows this past weekend. In addition to signing up or renewing members, we were able to let people know in person some of the things we’ve been working hard at:

  • Social Sustainability: Moving past the 5 elements of sustainability to create a much needed framework for technically challenging trails, ie: make trails rowdy again.
  • PMBIA Partnership, helping to expand and promote the ride leader certification and instructor certification across the country.
  • The new liability landscape: best practices learned from the Bruce County decision.
  • Our new provincial framework, including the BC Council, and the importance of having regional voices at the table.

Missed the opportunity to ask us whats up? Want to talk about issues that are at play in your community? Send us an email and lets set up a time to talk.
