Delish Condish The Glow Up Turmeric & Pineapple Mask is a delightful blend of turmeric, pineapple enzymes, and glycerin to exfoliate, hydrate and heal skin. Keep reading for key ingredients and a short and sweet review. Key Ingredients Pineapple enzymes (Bromelain) Bromelain, an enzyme, is a compound found in the stems and immature fruits of pineapples. Bromelain is known to be anti-inflammatory and exfoliating. On the flipside, there is not enough research out there about bromelain. What we do know is, in theory, bromelain should digest the skin’s dead proteins, exfoliate, rebuild collagen and reveal softer skin. (source) Turmeric Turmeric is a bright yellow spice packed with powerful antioxidants. In the past few years, turmeric has started to trend in the beauty industry for good reason. It is an effective anti-inflammatory and skin brightener. Turmeric is shown to fade dark spots more effectively than arbutin. It is also known to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and soothe flare-ups. Glycerin Glycerin is a lubricant and humectant. Glycerin attracts water to the skin to make it smoother and softer. Packaging The Glow Up is packaged in a 2 oz plastic jar with a black screw top. The mask itself has a jelly-like texture with no scent. How to apply To use, simply apply an even layer to the face and let it sit for 5-10 minutes, then rinse with cool water. My thoughts Nothing brings me greater joy than an exfoliant that does not feel like it is exfoliating at all, and that’s what The Glow Up is all about. I applied an even layer to my skin and let it sit for 10 minutes. There was no stinging, burning or irritation (I have dry skin type). I rinsed with lukewarm water and my skin was noticeably softer and smoother. I love everything about this mask. It has become a mid-week skin pick me up. While there isn’t substantial research that pineapple enzymes actually do anything to the skin, you can feel the difference after you rinse this mask off. It’s undeniable. The Glow Up Turmeric & Pineapple Mask retails $12. Use the code HEYAPRILL at checkout to receive 10% off your order.

b-glowing, the essential edit of brands across skin care, makeup, body, hair care and more serves a demographic well known for believing that beauty has no age limit. With an understanding that skin transforms as it gets older, b-glowing created and launched their very first product: the Illuminate + Shine Palette. The palette features complementary colors in innovative packaging loaded with skincare infused formulas. Check out more of the benefits per b-glowing’s website: Everything you need to create a complete look with ease. Filled with a brightening primer, highlighter, and eight pigment-packed shadows, this palette brightens, blurs, illuminates, smoothes fine lines, and nourishes skin. Flatters and enhances mature skin. All our formulas are infused with MicroVector Plump GABA-HYA—a moisture-rich blend of collagen, hyaluronic acid, and other ingredients to help plump, hydrate and smooth the skin. Primes, conceals and brightens. Our universally-flattering primer creates a smooth canvas for makeup application, reducing the look of fine lines and pores. It also doubles as a redness-reducing concealer for fair to medium tone women. What’s more, our universal highlighter brightens the complexion and imparts a natural, lit-from-within glow. Creates countless looks. Each row of pigment-rich shadows represents a different colorway, or “look”— the shades can be worn alone, mixed together or layered to create an effect all your own. Zippered, reusable clutch. Our zippered case eliminates mess, keeping your shadows safe and secure while traveling. Plus, when you’re done with the palette, you can pop out the pan and use the case as gorgeous, zippered clutch. The Illuminate + Shine Palette features 8 eyeshadow shades with a neutral color palette. There are two shades with a matte finish, four shades with a pearlescent finish, and 2 shades with a shimmery finish. All the shades are well pigmented and pick up well with any brush you use. The shades also blend well into one another to create a beautiful look. In addition to eyeshadows, the palette features a Brighten + Perfect Cream Base. The base is a pink toned nude that works well as an eyeshadow primer and keeps shadows in place for 12+ hours. The base also doubles as a smoothing and brightening concealer to conceal dark circles. Last but certainly not least is the Inner Glow Cream. It’s a multipurpose highlighting cream that can be used to give you a youthful, radiant glow. Apply onto the bridge of the nose, cheekbones, cupid’s bow or underneath your brows. Overall I love the color theme of the palette, down to the dusty rose zipper pouch. The shadows are well pigmented and apply and blend with ease. The base that comes in the palette works well to give the shadow more staying power without creasing and the glow cream creates a highlighting effect that is natural and luminous. Is it worth $58? Absolutely. b-glowing Illuminate + Shine Palette retails $58. Purchase at b-glowing.com
Neutrogena expanded the Hydro Boost line back at the beginning of the year with more cleansers, exfoliating scrubs, overnight gel masks, SPF and sheet masks. After previewing the new goodies on Twitter (and sparking a conversation on Reddit’s Skincare Addiction), everyone was scattering out to their nearest mass merchant retailer to find them, and everyone collectively fell in love. At $2.99 a pop (which is SUPER affordable for a hydrogel sheet mask), it’s only right that I create a guide on these miraculous hydrogel masks. Neutrogena Hydrogel Masks (SRP, $2.99) are hydrogel in nature. Hydrogel masks are typically on the pricey side and are made from gelatin. They are constructed into two pieces- one for the upper section of the face and one for the lower. Neutrogena hydrogel masks adhere to the face textured side down. It can be a tad difficult to distinguish the textured side from the smooth, but as a note, the smooth side will slide right off your face. Read this: #SheetMaskMonday- An Introduction To Sheet Masks There are three formulas available- Hydro Boost, Deep Clean and Radiance Boost. Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Hydrogel Mask Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrogel Mask is a single-use sheet mask in a foil pack soaked in essence. The essence has a light fragrance similar to Hydro Boost moisturizer, so beware if you have sensitive/acne prone skin type, as fragrance additives are known the irritate the skin. This sheet mask contains hyaluronic acid, known to increase hydration and castor oil to moisturize. Neutrogena Deep Clean Purifying Hydrogel Mask Neutrogena Deep Clean Purifying Hydrogel Mask is a single-use sheet mask in a foil pack soaked in essence. It has a light, aquatic (salty, beachy) fragrance. Beware if you have sensitive/acne prone skin type, as fragrance additives are known the irritate the skin. This sheet mask contains hyaluronic acid for hydration, castor oil for moisture and moringa oleifera seed extract, which has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties to heal minor skin ailments (the purifying ingredient in the mask). Neutrogena Radiance Boost Brightening Hydrogel Mask Neutrogena Radiance Boost Brightening Hydrogel Mask is a single-use sheet mask in a foil pack soaked in essence. It has a light floral fragrance. Beware if you have sensitive/acne prone skin type, as fragrance additives are known the irritate the skin. This sheet mask contains hyaluronic acid for hydration, castor oil for moisture and vitamin B3 (niacinamide) to brighten the skin. Neutrogena Hydrogel masks are a plus because they are widely accessible and affordable for a hydrogel sheet mask. On the flipside, I personally believe they could use some improvements. For starters, these masks contain too much essence. It drips and is messy in the midst of trying to find the texture side of the mask. Hold the mask over the foil pack for a few seconds to allow a majority of the mask to drip off the excess essence. You can set that excess essence to the side to use later. So maybe it’s not a bad thing after all. My other complaint is about finding the textured side of the mask in the first place. Adding a tad more texture would make for easier application and better adherence. Shop this post
If you are not deep into the k-beauty skincare world, the concept of a cleansing stick is foreign to you, and that’s ok. After you are done reading this post, you will more than likely add one to your routine because they are everything. I am not deeply engaged in the k-beauty world, but cleansing sticks are not foreign to me. I heard cries from around the world when Su:m37 discontinued their Miracle Rose Cleansing Stick, which peaked my interest in cleansing sticks in the first place. There is a clear hole in the skincare market for a dupe of this stick, and while St. Ives won’t be the brand to remedy this issue, you can still discover cleansing sticks, and check my mini-review of St. Ives new cleansing stick. So let’s get started. What is a cleansing stick? A cleansing stick is an oil-based solid cleanser in the shape of a stick. Though cleansing sticks are oil-based, they are not oil cleansers, because they contain ingredients that create soap (surfactants) They resemble lip balms in shape, but significantly larger. They are beneficial because they are typically not stripping, they are spill proof, leak proof, and travel-friendly. How to use a cleansing stick Remove the cap and twist the stick until you have a tad bit of product sticking out. Wet the face but let’s note that it does not have to be soaking wet. Apply the cleansing stick to your wet face in a circular motion. You’ll notice it is very soothing and relaxing, like a mini facial massage. Rinse, pat dry and finish up your routine St Ives Cactus Water & Hibiscus Cleansing Stick Review I’ll start this review off by being fair and stating that before this review, I’ve never used a cleansing stick before. So the first thing I did once it hit my hands was sniffed it- very clean, very fresh. The scent was reminiscent of a body soap. The packaging is just like all the other cleansing sticks- it’s in a tube that rolls up and down like antiperspirant I wet my face and rubbed the stick all over and I’ll admit I’m in awe of how well it cleanses. I was left with very little dirt on my face when I moved on to the toning portion of my skin care regimen. When I tested with makeup, it removed most of my makeup except in those hard to reach places (crease of the nose) and even removed waterproof mascara. It rinses as well as it cleanses, and my face was not tight or dry. The only complaint I have, which to be honest is not the brand’s fault, but thanks to the unique structure of cleansing sticks (all of them for that matter), you have to be sure to keep the top of the tube as dry as possible, if that makes sense. Like bar soap, if you leave it too much water, it becomes soggy and you can’t screw product up to the top of the tube because the wet soap at the top will stick to the sides, which makes the cleansing stick hard to use. So keep a paper towel handy to pat the top of the product dry after use. It is also important to note that this product contains coconut and coconut derivatives, so if you are one of those people that suffer from acne or normally has adverse reactions to coconut oil, I’d recommend avoiding this stick. St Ives Cactus Water & Hibiscus Cleansing Stick retails $7.99. Pick this up at a mass merchant near you, or click here to purchase.
The health of your teeth and gums is important, which is why you need to take extra steps to maintain them. The beauty of your teeth is also important, especially if you want to look fresh, healthy, and beautiful at all times. After all, having healthy, white teeth is how you maintain the beauty of your smile. Taking good care of your teeth by brushing and flossing regularly is not enough. You also need to keep your teeth white and beautiful to get that stunning look of a smile. These several tips and tricks will help you maintain the beauty of your teeth without the hassle. Go Easy on the Red Wine Red wine is notoriously bad for your teeth. It doesn’t ruin the exterior surface of the teeth or threaten the health of your mouth, but it leaves a bad stain that isn’t so easy to remove. If you love drinking red wine, be sure to brush your teeth immediately afterward. The same can be said for black tea. Smoking also leaves stains on your teeth – and in a bad way too – so you want to drop this habit if you are serious about maintaining pearly-white teeth. Other food items that leave the same stains include cola or beverages that contain a high amount of sugar, gravies, and coffee. If you can’t brush your teeth after consuming these food items, you can also use mouthwash as a temporary fix. Brush your teeth as soon as you can. Fix Issues Immediately Don’t wait to see your dentist when dealing with teeth problems. Even with simple problems like a chipped tooth, not getting them fixed right away can hurt your teeth cosmetically. In the case of a chipped tooth, the exposed core of your tooth can turn black or get stained permanently. The same can be said for problems with your gums. When not attended properly, a simple gum issue could cause a large area of your gums to turn grey or dark brown. This is certainly not the kind of look you want if you love smiling a lot. Vinegar and Baking Soda Using natural ingredients to clean your teeth and gums is often better than relying on detergents in toothpaste. There are two simple ingredients you can use to clean the teeth: apple cider vinegar and baking soda. Start by gargling with apple cider vinegar as soon as you wake up in the morning. The vinegar kills bacteria and helps whiten the teeth. It is also good for maintaining the health of your gums. Continue by brushing your teeth using baking soda instead of a toothpaste. Salt works as an alternative to toothpaste too. If you don’t like the aftertaste of baking soda when used for brushing your teeth, you can make the switch to salt to get the same results. Don’t forget to brush your teeth right before you go to bed so that bacteria buildup doesn’t ruin your teeth while you’re asleep. All of these tips are easy to implement, but they are very effective in maintaining the natural beauty and whiteness of your teeth. Give them a try and let your smile glow even more.
Paula’s Choice Peptide Booster is a peptide-enriched serum that delivers a dose of eight peptides, amino acids and repairing ingredients to help improve skin texture by reducing the appearance of fine lines. In addition, this booster promises to re-educate the skin to make it look and feel younger, diminish the effects of environmental stress, and help the skin maintain natural moisture balance. A mini-lesson about peptides When we have discussions about anti-aging, there is not one single ingredient that is able to fight the signs of aging, but peptides are known to be one of the most important ingredients in the fight. Peptides are protein fragments made up of amino acids. When those amino acids are combined, they create peptides (there are hundreds on the market). When peptides are combined, they create proteins. Proteins are very important when it comes to the skin. Proteins (*coughs COLLAGEN*) are what help to keep the skin intact. Like hyaluronic acid, the amount of collagen we create on our own decreases as we age, yet it accounts for 75% of our skin (yikes). This caused skincare brands to create products that contain collagen, but collagen molecules are large and can’t penetrate the skin, rendering most collagen products useless. Peptides, on the other hand, can create proteins that tell the skin to make more collagen and repair damaged skin, which is why peptides are so important to add to any anti-aging skincare routine. The pep squad Paula’s Choice Peptide Booster contains 8 peptides that work in tandem to dramatically improve the skin in different ways. Let’s check them out: Tripeptide-1: Stimulates collagen and fibroblast production, increasing skin’s firmness Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1: “Tricks” skin into producing more of the right kind of collagen Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7: Calms down the messengers that tell your skin to become irritated Palmitoyl Hexapeptide-12: Stimulates cells to produce healthier cells Myristoyl Hexapeptide 16 & Myristoyl Pentapeptide 17: Improves elasticity Hexanoyl Dipeptide-3 Norleuceine Acetate: Helps skin shed and speeds up cell renewal Azelaoyl Bis-Dipeptide-10: Fades hyperpigmentation and dullness for brighter skin and an evener skin tone How to use Paula’s Choice Peptide Booster can be easily added to your skincare routine by mixing a few drops of the booster with your favorite serum or moisturizer (non-SPF). You can also apply a few drops to the skin after you tone and continue the rest of your routine as normal. My thoughts Paula’s Choice Peptide Booster is packaged in a 0.67 fl. oz. bottle with an eyedropper dispenser. Peptide Booster dispenses with a semi-firm gel-like texture with no scent. When applied on its own, Peptide Booster is weightless and absorbs quickly into the skin with no greasy feel. When mixed with other serums and boosters, the results are the same, does not cause any pilling and plays very well with other moisturizers. It has only been a week since I started using it, so I can’t report back with results yet, but the promises, combined with the fact that I trust Paula’s Choice products, is enough to say that I would definitely recommend this product to anyone that is noticing a change in skin firmness or texture, and would like to add an anti-aging product to their routine with a solid ingredients list. Ingredients Water (Aqua), Glycerin (skin-replenishing), PEG-8 Dimethicone (texture enhancer), Tripeptide-1 (skin-restoring), Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1 (skin-restoring), Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7 (skin restoring), Palmitoyl Hexapeptide-12 (skin restoring), Myristoyl Hexapeptide-16 (skin-restoring), Myristoyl Pentapeptide-17 (skin-restoring), Hexanoyl Dipeptide-3 Norleucine Acetate (skin-restoring), Azelaoyl Bis-Dipeptide-10 (skin-restoring), Glycoproteins (hydration), Phospholipids (skin-replenishing), Adenosine (skin-restoring), Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate (skin-soothing), Arginine, Valine, Glycine, Alanine, Glutamic Acid, Serine, Threonine (amino acids/hydration), Yeast (Faex) Extract (skin-soothing/hydration), Isoleucine, Proline, Histidine, Phenylalanine (amino acids/hydration), PCA (skin-replenishing), Phytic Acid (antioxidant), Panax Ginseng Root Extract (plant extract/antioxidant), Sodium PCA (skin-replenishing), Psidium Guajava Fruit Extract (guava fruit/antioxidant), Euterpe Oleracea Fruit Extract (acai/antioxidant), Ahnfeltiopsis Concinna Extract (algae/hydration/texture enhancer), Dextran (natural sugar/hydration), Hydrolyzed Silk (texture enhancer), Lecithin (skin-restoring fatty acid), Glyceryl Polymethacrylate (film-forming agent), C12-16 Pareth-9, Trideceth-12 (emulsifiers), Sodium Lactate (hydration), Carbomer (texture enhancer), Aspartic Acid (amino acid/hydration), Polysorbate 20 (emulsifier), Butylene Glycol, Caprylyl Glycol, PEG-8 (texture enhancers), C11-15 Pareth-7 (emulsifier), Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride (texture enhancer), Phytosteryl/Octyldodecyl Lauroyl Glutamate, Ectoin (hydration), Citrate Buffer (pH adjuster), Trimethylsiloxyamodimethicone (texture enhancer), Phenoxyethanol (preservative), Sodium Hydroxide (pH adjuster), Ethylhexylglycerin (hydration). There’s no question that people lead stressful lives nowadays, and in most cases, it’s more stressful for them than the generation that came before them. Add to the fact that research from the American Psychological Association shows that women are also under more stress than men, and it’s clear that people could use a little time to wind down and relax. This is exactly why a girls’ night out is something that so many women look forward to, and plan on a regular basis. It’s a chance to chat, catch up with friends, put work and your personal life aside for a bit, and just be in the moment. If you’re in the process of planning a girls’ night out with a few of your close friends and you want to be sure it’s a fabulous evening, then you’re going to want to read on. Here are five great ideas that you can use for your next girls’ night. Check Out a Real-Life Escape Room You may be familiar with the hugely popular games for your mobile device that fall into the escape room theme. These are games where you need to find clues, solve the puzzles, and find a way to escape the room. Well, how would you and your friends like to experience this in real life? A company by the name of Breakout is offering this experience to people, with a Dallas escape room experience that offers an unforgettable experience. For those outside the Dallas area, you can check to see if an “escape room” exists near your town or city. A Wine Tasting Party at Home Wine tasting parties can be a fabulous activity for all, but if you’re signing up for one at a winery or restaurant, they can be pretty pricey. For those working within a budget, you can switch gears and have a wine tasting party at home. Ask each guest to bring one bottle of wine within a set price limit, and then each can be sampled. You can add to the fun by challenging guests to say something about each “vintage” as they sip it and add that real element of a true wine tasting. Explore New Cuisine Together If you and your friends see yourselves as foodies, a fun activity can be to explore a new cuisine each time you get together. Not only will you get to sample different foods, but you can find new favorite restaurants, and enjoy a relaxing evening of chatting over good food. Sign Up for a Class There are all kinds of one-time classes available today that allow you to do such things as learning how to paint, cook a gourmet meal, learn new dance moves, and even apply makeup like a pro. Again, this is something that you can turn into a regular activity and try a new class each time. Take a Tour of Your City or Town Why not be a tourist in your own town or city together and take a guided tour? Typically, you’ll find a selection of themed-tours that will show you areas of your city that you may not have even realized existed. No matter which of these activities you choose, one thing is for sure and that’s the fact you’re bound to have a great time.
Roughly 70% of my skincare routine consultations involve talking about acne. My message is always the same- “There are 100 causes and 100 treatments”, and fungal acne is no exception to the rule. If you have used everything on the market for this form of acne, there’s a good chance it’s fungal. One more thing- it’s not even acne. Follow me. What Is Fungal Acne Pityrosporum Folliculitis? Pityrosporum folliculitis is what happens when yeast gets into the hair follicles and makes little yeast babies. It creates an acne-like eruption, which is where the confusion comes into play, and why it is commonly called ‘fungal acne’. Typically, the acne-like eruptions are found on the chest, t-zone portion of the face and back area and are typically uniform in size and are about the size of a pinhead. Your chances of getting fungal acne pityrosporum folliculitis are increased if: You live in a humid climate You use coconut oil on your skin (it LOVES to feed on coconut oil) You have an oily skin type (sebum is a whole snack) You are stressed out You have diabetes You take birth control, broad-spectrum antibiotics or oral steroids. Pityrosporum Folliculitis Symptoms If you have tried every acne medication on the market and nothing works, you totally (probably) have Pityrosporum folliculitis. Pityrosporum folliculitis is also very itchy, which is not common with acne. How To Treat Pityrosporum Folliculitis Imma keep it real with you chief, you need to see a doctor. Topical treatments *can* be effective, but nothing works like anti-fungal drugs. This way, all the yeast is killed without a doubt. I do empathize with peeps that can’t afford the doctor’s visit or the medication, so let’s talk about at home treatments. There is a wide range of at home treatments, like Stridex Pads (the only BHA product that has the right pH to effectively exfoliate), tea tree oil, products that contain sulfur and urea. Avoid coconut oil like the plague and switch to gentler products that do not contain coconut oil and other substances that feed Pityrosporum folliculitis (they, like me, love fat #oink). Let’s talk about Pityrosporum folliculitis! Tell me about your experience with this annoying fungal infection. Need a skincare routine to compliment your pityrosporum folliculitis treatment? Book me!
Jacq’s Organics is a black, woman-owned skincare company based in Miami, Florida. Barbara Jacques, Co-founder, and CEO created the brand out of adversity. Diagnosed with an ovarian tumor and pregnant, she was looking to formulate non-toxic solutions to meet the challenges of her changing body. Jacq’s is passionate about creating products that work for all ages, skin types and skin concerns. I got the opportunity to try some products from the Jacq’s Organics, and here they are! Jacq’s Healing Face Cleanser, $20 Who’s this for? Normal skin What does it do? This facial cleanser promises to dissolve dirt, makeup, and impurities on the skin. My thoughts: This cleanser is pink in color and has a liquidy texture that foams well when in contact with water. This cleanser is very foamy and refreshing, I recommend incorporating it into your morning cleansing routine thanks to the invigorating blend of spearmint, peppermint, and ginger essential oils. It’s a lovely facial cleanser to wake up to. The papaya extract is an added bonus to gently exfoliate using fruit acids. Jacq’s Antioxidant Infused Beauty Balm, $49 Who’s this for? Anyone looking to thoroughly cleanse the day away What does it do? This waterless balm cleanses the skin, leaving behind nothing but moisture My thoughts: I love a good cleansing balm, and this one is no exception to the rule. Formulated with andiroba nut oil, shea butter, cocoa butter and essential oils, this balm efficiently removes all traces of dirt, oil, and makeup while leaving the skin super soft and moisturized. I’d recommend using this balm in the evening after a long day. Pair with a muslin cloth for maximum cleansing. Jacq’s Revitalizing Face Toner, $19 What’s this for? All Skin Types What does it do? This toner refreshes and moisturizes the skin with hibiscus petals and healing Burdock root. My thoughts- This toner is packed with lots of good stuff-carrot root extract, rosehip seed oil, Sea Buckthorn Seed Oil, aloe and more. I’d recommend this toner to someone that is not looking for their toner for hydration but to infuse their skin with botanicals to soothe and balance the skin. Jacq’s Balancing Face Serum, $62 Who’s this for? All skin types What does it do? It promises to deliver hydrated, supple skin. My thoughts- This serum contains an interesting blend of rosehip seed oil, carrot root extract, and yellow dock extract, excellent for skin inflammation. I’m curious to see how this serum reacts to acne prone skin. If I had to go off the ingredients alone, I’d say excellent. This fragrant oil absorbs quickly and left my skin supple and soft. Jacq’s Clarifying Masque and Scrub, $27 Who’s this for? All skin types What does it do? Claims to draw out impurities, nourish the skin, and leave the skin feeling refreshed. My thoughts- Let me start off by saying- this clay mask is not like the others, and everyone with oily skin needs this mask. It is an all-star line-up of rhassoul and bentonite clay, cornstarch, charcoal, tapioca starch, kelp, niacinamide, dead sea salt and essential oils. I have super dry skin, so I like to mix this mask with olive oil and a tiny bit of ACV to create a hydrating, yet acne busting masque. The grit is minimal and gentle, just enough to gently exfoliate if needed. This mask can easily become your most coveted masque in your weekly ritual. The only complaint I have is in regards to the packaging- the label protecting the sifter could not completely be removed, making it difficult to dispense product, so I had to remove the sifter completely. Not a ‘huge’ deal, I hate sifters anyway. Overall, Jacq’s Organics is a cohesive indie skincare brand that does what most cant do- go beyond body butter to create impressive facial skin care products that deliver results. You can tell that time, effort, and research was put into creating products. Check out everything Jacq’s Organics has to offer by visiting https://www.jacqsorganics.com
