Hello, I am Ally GradleyI've always been inspired by fashion, style and beauty. From a young age, I also relished being in front of a camera. With a desire to channel my passion, and with only a shoestring budget, I founded Gumboot Glam, to share my styling's, and musings on beauty, health and fitness.
When parents talk about the days being long, but the years are short, it's so true! It feels like it was yesterday that Christian and I brought our little guy home for the first time. Nervous and excited about what was in front of us. Then, you wake up, and he's 1.
Since the year flew by, we wanted a 1st birthday party that allowed our friends and family to enjoy themselves as much as Harrison's little friends. After looking around at venues, we decided that the only place that made sense was our home, as it is baby-proofed and filled with Harrison's favourite toys.
As for the theme, we quickly decided on urban woodland camping. With views of the mountains from our home, and this gorgeous little tent, from Domestic Objects, that Harrison loves playing peek-a-boo in, we knew it was an adorable and baby-safe way to bring the outside-in. And, who doesn't love watching littles ones pretend to camp!
Since Christian works a tonne and mommy life keeps me busy, we knew we needed help. Fortunately, Taffete, the same amazing team that helped me with design & decor for our wedding, was keen to take the lead on executing my vision. And, they did an incredible job! The scenes were adorable, with cute signage, and plenty of wood, greenery and natural fabrics to create a thoroughly rustic-outdoor feel. And, most-importantly, the day was executed flawlessly!
Particularly adorable, was the photo backdrop scene, of the tent, flanked by greenery-balloons and a banner celebrating Harrison's big day. Friends and family, and all of Harrison's baby-buddies, had their photos taken in front of it by the amazing Taya Photography.
For food, we served all of our favourite camping-related snacks and treats to the adults. Little ones had their pick from a buffet of pouches, cookies and veggie & fruit finger-foods. And, the dessert table was a hit, with a stunning naked cake as the centrepiece, from Sweetly Sifted, that I fell in love with. It was important to me to skip the usual fondant and design-heavy kid's birthday cakes, to give our guests a more delicious and woodland-feeling treat (complete with chocolate pinecones!).
And, when nap time called the little ones away, each of them took home a customized gift of a woodland-themed set c/o Skip Hop - a matching water bottle and snack cup. So cute!!
As a thank you for attending, adults were sent the family portrait photos taken in front of the tent, This was important to me, since I know how hard it is to orchestrate a nice family photo. Adults were also given a 1 year old cedar sapling. It was our small way to leave the world and our city a better place, as well as create a number of trees that can grow with Harrison - and, in a few years, take him to visit!
It was an amazing and magical day for our little family, and I can't wait to see what the next year brings for my sweet little boy.
My thanks to all who made Harrison's big day possible:
I'm kinda obsessed with olive greens right now, even though I'm typically a pink and bright colors this pretty neutral colored dress is kinda perfect for these grey winter days. I paired it with some pretty gold accents, like this delicate necklace that I've had forever. xo, Ally
I love mixing black and brown together - especially this shade of brown! This look is perfect for the office and also comfy enough for running around and doing errands too. Even though I mainly find myself in more casual mom looks these days, I still love the opportunity to get dressed up.
Here are some other brown coats I love that are all under $100!
It seems like we never stop entertaining and I am having the best time hosting all our family and friends. But with all these little get togethers come a ton of little messes, especially when Harrison is involved, he just loves pulling all his toys out all at once and there always seems to be a cheerios smashed into the floor too! I'm totally loving my Dyson V8 vacuum, it has really transformed the way I clean and it was honestly on my Christmas wish list this year. I'm kinda obsessed with how easy it makes cleaning up - even when I'm chasing after my little guy. First of all its super light and cordless which is amazing! It's so light and easy to use that I can fully clean our home while holding Harrison, and that is a win win. It's also extremely quiet, which means I can clean up while Harrison naps and not be scared that the vacuum sound is going to wake him up - so important!
My Dyson V8 doesn't just clean floors, its also amazing for cleaning all of Harrison's toys and his high chair - which is always collecting little bits of food, I even used it to clean his stroller seat and car seat. It's really a mama must have!

Can you believe that we already had our first snow fall? This cold winter weather is totally wreaking havoc on mine and Harrison's skin and with cold and flu season upon us, it's also been super important to make sure the air in Harrison's nursery is really clean too!
After looking into a bunch of different options Christian and I thought that the best fit for our family and our little one was the Dyson Humidifier, not only do we love how it looks but we also love the engineering behind it too.
We were totally sold on it once we learned that its the most hygienic humidifier available and that it also has even room coverage. It's also super silent so it won't wake Harrison while he's napping. Another feature we love is the Intelligent Climate Control, it measures both the temperature and moisture in the air and adjusts accordingly to create the most comfortable environment for our precious little guy.
OMG! How long has it been since my last post! So sorry guys, it's been such a busy time of year, plus Harrison has just become extremely mobile so I literally have been scrambling to get our place baby proofed and making sure he is safe has been my number one priority. It's crazy how much motherhood has changed my life and how much longer it takes to get things done - that said there are some amazing blogger moms who seem to have it all figured out and I have to really give them credit!
Anyhow, back to this soft winter outfit that I wore over the weekend to a little holiday party I attended with my two guys, I just absolutely love this oversized jacket (I'm wearing a medium). It's really so warm and cozy and looks good with everything including sweat pants, which you will find me in most days of the week ;)
Today I'm so excited to share these super gorgeous and cozy pjs and bedding from the Cosabella x Dwell Studio collab. Is there anything better than new cozy bedding and super soft pj's? I also love that these Cosabella pj's are nursing friendly, they make early morning feeds so much easier. I also love how gorgeous this DwellStudio bedding is, the luxe detailing of the Woodgrain Matelassé collection instantly upgraded our bedroom, and the Meena Border sheets are the perfect compliment too.
Christian and I rarely get to sleep in these days, but on the mornings when Harrison wakes up a little later, I really enjoy having a little coffee and breakfast in bed and catching up on instagram too! How do you like to spend your mornings when your little ones sleep in?
The Holidays are right around the corner and this red dress from Maggy London is totally perfect for any holiday party! I'm kinda obsessed with red right now too. Because this dress is such a show stopper, I decided to keep my accessories super minimal but did decide to add my fav red lip too!
Is there anything better than a crisp Fall morning? I just love heading to the park with little Harrison when the sun is shining and leaves are that perfect shade of red. Today I wanted to be cozy and comfy but also a little mama-chic in a part of high waisted joggers, a comfy stretchy top and this amazing coat that I actually bought last year but was a little too pregnant for it, but it's one of my favs this year.
