WHAT THE AUSTRALIAN OPEN TAUGHT ME ABOUT RUNNING MY BUSINESS

I’m sure you know by now that I LOVE sport. I’m no athlete myself but am partial to playing whichever sport presents itself to me. I’m currently learninghow to play tennis. Mainly because my children can beat me and I’d like to at least be able to have a rally with them (secretly because I find it VERY annoying to be beaten by an 8 year old!)

When it comes to spectating sport I could honestly watch anything. Sure, I have my favourites but if the conkers world cup was on TV I’d probably pour myself a brew and get stuck right in.

You see it’s not just about the actual game. It’s really about the people. The commitment and dedication that professional and budding sports people show is what REALLY gets me. It’s this that has me bawling in tears during acceptance speeches and has me backing the underdog with all of my heart. Because the grit it takes to be at the top of your game is so far beyond the comfort zone of most people that they are practically on a different planet.

My children love sport. And even at the tender ages of 9 and 8 they are learning the benefits of hard work, dedication, commitment and rejection. Yes it’s hard to see the face of a 9 year old who lost a match they so desperately wanted to win but these are life lessons that are quite honestly, essential. At some stage in their lives they will experience rejection. And if they are unclear on the power of commitment and dedication then the gaps will certainly appear.

These last few weeks I’ve been glued to the Australian Open. Mainly because we all love tennis in our house and a grand slam is a highlight for us. But also because I just LOVE watching people put every ounce of their being into something that they’ve worked so hard for.

Most of us can’t really imagine the life of a sportsperson…. up every morning early to train for goodness knows how many hours, carefully scrutinising every morsel of food you consume, missing out on fun things that your friends are doing because you have to sleep/train, putting all of your eggs in a basket which could quite possibly tip over at any second, pushing your body to limits that you’re not even sure is possible and losing something that you’ve worked for years to achieve by the finest of margins.

But you know what keeps them going? Because they WANT it with every single ounce of their existence. And when you really and truly want something it is possible to break all sorts of boundaries and limitations.

So in that sense, being a top class tennis player isn’t really so different to being a regular business owner, is it?

* We might not be getting up stupidly early to get on a tennis court but you can bet your bottom dollar that we will pull some crazily late nights to finish a clients job.

* We might not carefully scrutinise every morsel of food we consume but I bet sometimes you miss meals in their entirety when you are pushed for time and want to complete a project.

* We might not miss Christmas parties with our friends because we’re travelling to a tournament but I bet you can think of a hundred times where you’ve said no to your kids and husband because ‘you have work to do’.

* Losing by margins?! Oh yes, us entrepreneurs could write books on this. We know all about losing a booking to someone else ‘even though it was a close and very tough decision’.

* And as far as putting your eggs in one basket – I bet there are a significant number of people reading this who took a plunge in their business that even now terrifies them.

So heck, we’re actually all just like world class athletes!

Oh but hang on, maybe there are differences….

Do you have a team around you?

OK maybe you’re new in your business and aren’t quite ready to employ the help of other people but let me be straight here. The best time to get help is before you actually need it! Think about our top tennis player – they are SURROUNDED by people. Is that a sign of weakness? Of course not, they are doing it because they want to be better. Would you outsource your weak areas to people who can do it better? Sure you would, pop it on your goals list.

Are you getting paid to do what you love?

Now I know what you’re thinking here – I’d love to get paid £1million to play a tennis match. And being absolutely honest with you, that says more about your money mindset than anything. The road to being a world class athlete is way more complicated than you can ever imagine. Including years and years of actually paying to travel in an attempt to make money. Sound familiar?! Who has paid to be part of a showcase or fair in an attempt to make money? Not so different are we?!

So be honest. Are you running your business like a world class athlete would? Do you WANT your own success with every ounce of your being? Are you willing to make sacrifices to get yourself there? Do you push barriers and comfort zones on a daily basis?

If not, maybe you could learn a thing or two from athletes.

At the very least, please don’t forget your own glory moments. It’s kind of hard to compete with receiving a trophy in a stadium surrounded by hundreds of people cheering and clapping but find yourself a tribe of people who will listen to your acceptance speech and will weep with joy for you. Because you simply can’t put a price on that.

With love,

Faye x

My top 7 Mindset Hacks to prepare for next year

My Top 7 Mindset Hacks to start preparing for next year

Hi *|FNAME|* This time of year I start to feel excited about the opportunity of the new year so I thought I would share my 7 Steps to finish your year on a high. I’ve already started my 2019 planning and I urge you to do the same. Hopefully these tips will help you start to create a foundation for success and help give you some focus for the end of the year.

1. Acknowledge 2018

Spend some time looking back through the year. When were you the most happy? When did you experience the most joy? When were you feeling most at peace? What do you know now about yourself that you didn’t know last year? How have you changed?

2. Release

We’re all human and we will all experience moments we don’t feel great about. It’s important for you to release any bad feeling you have about things that have happened this year. Write a list of the negative events/situations/thoughts/feelings that you’ve had this year. Making a list of these resentments will be the moment that you agree with yourself to let go and release them from weighing us down into next year.

3. Design your life

Without limiting yourself or worrying about the how/why/when, create a list of your desires. Think about what you want your life to look like. Use the following headers: work – relationships – money – health – wellbeing – self-development. Give yourself permission to dream big and see what you come up with!

4. Set goals

Use your life design to start to set goals. Take these goals and break them down into actions that will help you achieve these goals. What do you need to do to achieve your dreams? What do you need to change the most? What can you do to improve this area of your business/life?

5. Stop sabotaging yourself

To ensure success in 2019 you need to kick the habit of self sabotage. The first step in doing this is writing a list of your limiting beliefs. This could be anything from ‘Am I good enough?’ to ‘Nobody will pay my prices.’ Awareness of self sabotage is the first step to quitting the habit you’ve formed with this belief.

6. Create new habits

If you don’t already have one then I recommend creating a new daily routine. I take 20 minutes before I start my day and use this time for meditation/visualisation and journalling. Without doubt, this daily routine enables me to have more productive, more focused and more structured days.

7. Make a change

If you do the same things next year that you’ve done this year, the result will be the same. If you’re looking for more, you need to find the parts of your life that you need to change. If you need help with this please let me know. Coaching is often the first step for people to start the journey of change.

Please let me know how you get on with your planning!

Who are you? (I think I know).

Who are you?

I’m so sorry I’ve not emailed you for a while, the last few weeks have been majorly busy. I use the word busy in a positive way because I do actually love being busy. I enjoy the prospect of having a full calendar (as long as it’s not overwhelming!) So what have I been up to? Well firstly, we spent the most idyllic week in snowy Scotland. We stayed in a picture perfect cottage in, literally, the middle of nowhere. It was honestly the most remote place I’ve ever been. We, as a family, spent the week having long lazy mornings, bracing walks into the mountains and evenings around the fire. We returned feeling re-charged and full again. I felt like I was living proof of one of my favourite quotes:

‘You can’t drink from an empty cup.”

While I was away I was delighted to see so many new people joining my Facebook group - The School of Happiness. Such an amazing, diverse and wonderful group of people and if you haven't already, I would love to invite YOU to join too.

Join The School of Happiness

After Scotland it was a pretty immediate turnaround for me as I then went into 7 days straight of self-development. It was the culmination of months of study as I became a Certified NLP, Time Line Therapy & Hypnotherapy Practitioner.

What on earth is that I hear you cry. Well I promise to fill you in over the coming weeks but ultimately it means I can help you find the best version of you.

So today I wanted to touch on this idea, this concept of ‘being the best version of you’. What does that mean and how do I find her/him? I can definitely help you here because I went on a personal journey of self discovery during 2015. The road was absolutely bumpy, I cried many tears and there were moments I felt like the world was against me.

And it’s here that I want to fire some home truths at you:

  • If you feel like the world is against you. It’s not.
  • If you feel like giving up. That’s normal.
  • If you've cried about your business. Join the club.

I hear from people everyday telling me ‘Business is tough’ or ‘I can’t find enough clients’ or ‘My market is saturated’.

These are EXCUSES.

I should know, I’ve made enough of them in my time. I remember one particular incident where I was barely charging enough money to cover my costs and NOBODY was booking me. I just couldn’t understand it. I was doing everything and more to make my business a success and worrying all day and night and still nothing seemed to be shifting.

Then I had a major realisation. And one that had a profound effect on me and my business.

I had to believe in myself before I could expect anyone else to believe in me.

Do you believe in yourself?

You might think you do or maybe you feel like you’re miles away from self-belief. Wherever you are on the scale I am saying (no I’m SHOUTING) that this needs to be your focus.

You’re here on this magical and wonderful planet for a reason and that reason is to EXPERIENCE life. This isn’t a survival mission, this isn’t The Hunger Games (read the book if you haven’t!) Life is about experience and if you’re spending your time making excuses and lacking self belief then now is the time to do something about this.

What can I do?

Yes I hear this question and the great news is that it’s simple, easy and great fun.

  1. Ask yourself what you really DESIRE?
  2. Ask yourself WHY you want this?
  3. Ask yourself how you will FEEL when you get this?
  4. Ask yourself what steps you need to take to make this a reality?
  5. Ask yourself what you need to BELIEVE to make this a REALITY?
  6. Make your mindset practice a DAILY non-negotiable part of your business.

Also take another hugely positive step today and join a fabulously supportive and welcoming community of entrepreneurs if you haven't already done so:

Join My Facebook Group

I’d love to hear what you come up with so please do hit reply and let me know.

You are the only person in control of you. So if you’ve forgotten that or got lost along the way, make today the day you will change. Treat this email as the roadmap to finding your way back and let’s make your change together.

Oh and by the way, that journey I started in 2015, I’m still on it and will be forever.

With Love,

Faye x

The business lesson I learnt from my hairdresser
*|MC_PREVIEW_TEXT|*
The business lesson I learnt from my hairdresser

As you may know, we moved at the end of last year further into the countryside. Over the last few months I have been slowly exploring new places, meeting new people, learning new ways of being. Last week I was WELL overdue a hair cut. The women among us will testify to the fact that when you find a good hairdresser, you don’t change for the sake of changing. In fact, when you find a good hairdresser, you hold onto them for dear life and never let them go.

Unfortunately I’d slightly fallen out of sync with booking a haircut and when I tried, my current hairdresser was booked up until April (he’s super popular!) So I decided to call a new hairdresser and try something new…. after all, a change is as good as a rest, right?

When I say desperate, I mean I was really desperate for a haircut. So much so that when the lady on the phone was a bit, well, ‘off’, I just ignored it and booked in anyway. Sub-consciously though I was already having an ‘average’ experience.

I believe that a haircut (or indeed any personal care experience) should be one of calm, one of luxury and one which encourages a sense of self investment. It's not just the haircut, it's the experience of the haircut. The second I stepped into this salon I was underwhelmed. Nothing bad happened, it just wasn’t the experience I had imagined. There was a queue to be greeted, the lady checking me in didn’t really offer a warm welcome (in fact she first told me there was no booking in my name) and told me that my hairdresser was running late. Not a great start.

In a nutshell, my experience from there was OK, it was just underwhelming.

When I got home, my husband said ‘Wow, your hair looks great!’ and to be honest I’d not even really thought about my hair because I was still pondering over why my trip to the hairdressers hadn’t lived up to my expectations.

The thing is, the haircut was good. In fact it was better than good. When I actually took a moment to look, I was really happy…

And in truth, the cost was less than half that I’m used to paying.

So what was missing? Surely, I’m just being fussy… I went to a hairdressers and got a good cut… right?

Wrong!

When people invest in your service they want to be wowed. YES you want people to think you're brilliant at what you do. But the thing that will turn your clients into raving fans is the way you treat them, the extra mile, the icing on the cake. It’s all about how you make them FEEL.

So when you’re:

  • comparing yourself to other people on Instagram
  • spending hours wondering how other people ‘get away’ with charging more than you
  • asking yourself how others charge double when they’re not twice as good

... divert your attention and ask yourself what else you can do to WOW your client.

Here are some areas you might like to consider when creating a WOW experience:

  • Your brand
  • Your website
  • Your social media presence
  • Your enquiry process (your email/phone language and tone)
  • Your booking procedure (the ease in which someone can book you)
  • Your client workflow process

Every step of the way, think about how you’re making your client feel and how you can sustain this throughout your clients experience of working with you. Don't go with average, go with WOW.

With Love,

Faye x

Would you like 2018 to be your best year?

Would you like your 2018 to be your best year?

So we're officially in December! Woohoo! I love Christmas and can't wait to spend time with my family (and allow myself a little over-indulgence!) during the Christmas period. This time of year I start to feel excited about the opportunity of the new year so I thought I would share my 7 Steps to Your Best Year. I've already started my 2018 planning and I urge you to do the same. Hopefully these tips will help you start to create a foundation for success. 1. Acknowledge 2017

Use the following headers: work - relationships - money - health - wellbeing - self-development.

To ensure success in 2018 you need to kick the habit of self sabotage.

With love, Faye x P.S. I now only have 1 space left for private coaching enrolment before Christmas. If you've been waiting for the right time or looking for a sign to uplevel your life - this is it!
