Summer is the perfect time to try out new nail polish colors and designs. If you are looking for bold nail art to try, then you are in luck because lava lamp manicures are trending all over Instagram. Yes, you heard me correctly. Lava lamps are not only vibrant room decorations, but now they can be part of your manicure.
While I was scrolling through my home page on Instagram the other day, I came across a manicure that I thought consisted of colorful globs. When I opened the full image, I discovered that it was actually a lava lamp inspired manicure. I was shocked because I have never seen nail art that looked as realistic as this did. I have seen nail art inspired by Disney characters and different household items, but this was the first time I have ever seen anything like this.
Who Created The Viral Lava Lamp Manicure?
I was curious to know who created this phenomenal lava lamp inspired manicure and to no surprise it was done by a nail artist named Liam Peter. Peter is a qualified nail technician and self-taught nail artist with over 20k followers on Instagram. Peter has created over 1,000 different nail designs from cheetah prints and flames to lava lamps and mermaid scales.
Peter was inspired by another nail artist, Alec Cole Hinz, who recently created an aquarium manicure that was out of this world.
How The Lava Lamp Manicure Was Designed
Peter is a brand ambassador for The Gel Bottle which is a nail polish company. The Gel Bottle has over 400+ vegan nail polish colors and it was their products which were used to create this viral lava lamp manicure. The two colors used in this manicure were ‘Cosmopolitan’ and ‘Bellini.’ In an interview with Allure, Peter talked about how he was able to create the illusion of depth and movement within the manicure. Peter said, “Layering jelly and neon gel polishes gives depth and makes it seem as though the blobs are really flowing around.” While layering polishes is important, Peter said that the sun is really responsible for creating the illusion of a moving lava lamp.
We all weren’t born nail technicians so if you attempt to try this at home, it might not come out exactly like these pictures, but the important thing is that you tried and were creative. I sound like an elementary school teacher, but I say that as a reminder that a trained nail technician created this lava lamp manicure. If you aren’t brave enough to try this exquisite nail art on your own, I would suggest trying to do a regular manicure with polka dots or perhaps a glitter top coat. Here at Faviana we are all about making girls feel empowered and we know how a nice manicure can change not only how you look physically, but also your mental state.

Summer is upon us and that means relaxation and vacation. If you are like me, then Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida is probably your go to vacation destination. Disney World is not only notorious for its crowds and humid weather, but for its unique accessories and apparel that can’t be found elsewhere. Here at Faviana we are all about staying up to date with the latest fashion trends and we have some news for you about new Disney inspired windbreakers.
What You Need To Know About Windbreakers
I’m going to be honest here, I have only ever heard of windbreakers twice in my life with one of them being from this announcement. Similar to a sweater, a windbreaker is a thin fabric coat designed to protect from rain and wind. It rains nearly everyday in Florida and it really is too hot to wear a heavy raincoat or carry around a bulky umbrella. Contrary to popular belief, it does get chilly in Florida during the winter, but not cold enough to wear a full coat. Disney is excellent at knowing what products people will buy and I have a feeling these windbreakers will be flying off the shelves over the next few weeks over at MouseGears in Epcot.
If you have been on Instagram, then you have probably seen people taking pictures in front of a purple wall at Disney. I am one of those basic girls who always posts pictures by the purple wall in Tomorrowland and now I definitely will while sporting this windbreaker. The Purple Wall windbreaker is designed after the newly renovated section of the wall that includes geometric shapes in varying shades of purple. Disney has a purple potion collection of ears, spirit jerseys, backpacks and now guests can add this windbreaker to their collection of purple apparel and accessories. This windbreaker costs $49.99 and is perfect for those days when you don’t want to ruin your favorite outfit with a poncho or neon colored rain jacket.
Fantasyland is one of Magic Kingdom’s themed lands that is based off of classic Disney movies like Dumbo, Snow White, Cinderella, Peter Pan and many more. This Fantasyland windbreaker screams magic with stars, vibrant colors and fairytale fonts. This windbreaker is perfect for those who aren’t afraid to wear color and show their fun side through fashion! As with the Purple Wall windbreaker, this design costs $49.99.
Space Mountain Windbreaker
Space Mountain is one of Magic Kingdom’s most popular attractions located in Tomorrowland and is known for its deep drops and sharp turns. This Space Mountain windbreaker has varying shades of blue and white and is decorated with an image of the famous white building which hosts the attraction. This windbreaker is the perfect way to represent your favorite attraction without looking too tacky.
Jungle Cruise is another popular attraction at Magic Kingdom among the adults because of its jokes and puns. If you are an animal lover, then you will love this windbreaker because it is decorated with animals found in the jungle. I personally don’t think everyone will find this windbreaker appealing because green and yellow are difficult colors to pull off.
Red, blue, and yellow aren’t only the colors of toy building blocks, but also the colors found on the famous Pixar luxo ball. If you like Toy Story, Brave, Finding Nemo, Coco, Cars and Up, then you are definitely going to want to have this Pixar windbreaker in your closet. The colors may be bold, but they tell a story which is exactly what the movies do for people all over the world.
Send us pictures of you wearing your Disney windbreaker by tagging us on Instagram @Faviana and Twitter @FavianaNY.
Since starting my internship at Faviana, I’ve had to commute to NYC three times a week. I personally don’t mind taking the subway, but it does get annoying sometimes when it is so crowded. Standing under someone’s armpit or right up against their chest is definitely not my favorite thing to do on my way to work, but I don’t have much of a choice. I have decided to take matters into my own hands to change up my morning commute to make it more enjoyable if it is going to take up time in my day. Here are three ways that I have made my morning commute more pleasurable and hopefully they can help you too!
1. Download Your Favorite Music
You might already listen to music on your way to work or school, but create a playlist that has meaning for you. I have the classic pop songs on my phone from Lady Gaga and Katy Perry, but I needed music that I don’t give myself time to listen to on a daily basis. The type of music you want to listen to depends on what you like whether it be rock, jazz, classical, etc. I like Broadway and Christmas music so I decided to download more of that to listen to. My go-to soundtracks are ‘Mean Girls’ and ‘Newsies’ because I love those musicals, but never have time to listen to them. Not only are you going to work, but you are also listening to a soundtrack that you have wanted to for a while so you are getting two things done at once.
2. Take Pictures On Your Morning Commute
While you might not feel like taking pictures when you are commuting to work or school, it gives you something to look forward to. You never know what you are going to see in NYC so giving myself the task of taking a picture of something keeps my brain occupied while I am standing on the train or walking through the crowded city streets. Some of my favorite things to take pictures of on my morning commute are the tall skyscrapers and the window displays of the large department stores. Not only are you taking pictures, but you will also have more content to post on Instagram later which is always nice.
One of my favorite parts about interning in NYC is that there are a lot of different blocks that I can walk down to get to work. Sometimes your morning commute is boring because you are walking down the same streets each day. While it may take you slightly out of your way, seeing different buildings and blocks will make you feel less robotic and more like you are going on a walk. On my morning commute, I turn down different blocks everyday just so I can see different parts of the city that I normally would not see if I took my usual route. Even if you don’t walk to work, turn down a different street because it will just spruce up your boring commute that you do every day.

Journaling is one of the best forms of self-care because it provides the opportunity to let out emotions, thoughts, opinions and literally anything else that is on your mind. I started journaling back in 2015 as a way to express all of the thoughts I had that I didn’t want to share with my friends and family. Over the last few years, bullet journaling has become more popular on social media due to its creative nature and aesthetic. If you are like me, I thought it was easier to watch other people create bullet journals than to actually make one of my own. After watching a few videos and tutorials, I decided to make my own bullet journal and I wanted to share some tips with you about how to get started!
Having a plain journal and fine point writing instruments are two of the most important elements of starting a bullet journal. Bullet journaling is unique because of its presentation and artistic elements. I had lots of difficulty trying to find the perfect plain journal that was the right size without any lines or other markings. Barnes & Noble has a lot of different journals on display in-store and online to choose from and that is where I found the one for me. I suggest purchasing the journal in person because you want to make sure it has the feel and look you want.
The fine point writing instruments are extremely important because one of the signature characteristics of a bullet journal is the neat font. A lot of the bullet journals I have seen on Instagram include a lot of calligraphy, but personally I thought trying to do that was going to add more stress so I decided to just try to use my best print. Barnes & Noble had these glitter markers that I fell in love with and they were able to give my bullet journal the fun look I wanted.
Figure Out A Theme And Design You Want
One of the most exciting parts about starting a bullet journal is that you can decorate it however you want. Some of the most popular bullet journal themes include nature, flowers, and inspirational quotes. Since I love Disney, I wanted mine to be have a Disney theme so I decided to include characters and quotes from my favorite movies. It is important to keep in mind that your drawings might not come out as perfect as the images you are seeing online. I decided to print out pictures and tape them in just to spare myself the wasted pages of trial and error. I used my colored markers to add extra designs like polka dots, hearts, stars, etc.
Plan How You Want To Use Your Bullet Journal
Do you want to have different sections in your bullet journal for scheduling, to-do lists, notes, etc? Do you want to have a weekly set up where everything is spread across the two pages for the week? It is crucial that you plan how you want to use your journal so you can plan your designs around it. It was more helpful for me to have different sections because having everything on one page stressed me out. For some people having everything written on one page is easier. Make sure you leave room to write and cross items off your list because at the end of the day that is the purpose of keeping a bullet journal.
A bullet journal can be anything you want it to be and that is the best part. There are no boundaries when it comes to starting a bullet journal because everyone has a unique creative side that they can set free.

When is the last time you practiced self care? It could have been going for a run, getting your nails done, putting on makeup or even getting a full night’s sleep. Chances are you haven’t done any of these things in a while because life has distracted you. As young adults we are expected to balance working, socializing, sleeping, exercising, relaxing and anything else you can possibly think of. For many of us that is hard because life gets in the way and we tend to put the needs of others before our own. While you might think that you are being nice, the reality is that you are sacrificing your own mental and physical health.
You should be your number one priority and it is up to you to practice self care regimens that are going to make you feel empowered. Netflix’s “Queer Eye” star Jonathan Van Ness is constantly preaching about the importance of self care. I decided to gather some of his most inspiring quotes about self care because it is important for all of us and sometimes we just need a little push to get started.
If you are constantly struggling with putting your own needs first, talking to a therapist may be helpful because they can help you put into perspective the importance of self care in a way that family and friends cannot.
1. “To me, self-care isn’t really shallow. Showing up for yourself, putting on a little moisturizer, can inspire so many different parts of your life.”
On “Queer Eye,” Jonathan is known for his grooming skills and his ability to transform people from the inside out. Jonathan practices self care by engaging in daily grooming and hygiene activities. Brushing your hair, putting on some makeup, using beard oil and rubbing moisturizer on your hands are just a few of the ways Jonathan has encouraged people to practice self care on a daily basis. The action doesn’t have to be large, but it is a small act of kindness towards yourself that can change how you feel for the rest of the day!
2. “How you take care of yourself is how the world sees you.”
This is a phrase that I think about when I don’t have the motivation to get ready in the morning. While looks aren’t the most important thing in the world, they do make a big difference in how people perceive you. If you take the time to take care of yourself whether it be going for a hair blowout or a night out with friends, people around you will notice a difference. You will have a different glow after doing something nice for yourself. Sometimes it is hard to even get up out of bed when you are depressed, but doing one thing at a time is the key.
3. “Self-care is the non-negotiable. That’s the thing that you have to do. And beauty is the thing that can be the benefit of the self-care. Beauty is not the point. Beauty is just a cute side-effect from self-care.”
Self care has almost turned into this buzz word that people use to describe any type of enjoyment on social media. Self care runs deeper than going out for drinks, but instead it means to be kind to yourself. The days that I practice more self care whether it be wearing a dress or putting on makeup, I do feel more beautiful. I don’t practice self care to be beautiful, but in order to feel happy with myself on both the inside and outside.
4. “You have to create little pockets of joy in your life to take care of yourself.”
This is something that I find difficult to achieve when daily life takes up most of my time. Sometimes if I am late for work, I will skip breakfast just to make sure I clock in on time or I will work all day long in order to please those around me. As Jonathan said, it is important to create little pockets of joy throughout your days whether it is listening to your favorite Broadway soundtrack on the way to work or treating yourself to a new lipstick shade.
5. “I want to show straight men and gay men alike that self care and grooming isn’t mutually exclusive with, like, femininity or masculinity.”
One of the most common misconceptions with self care is that it is feminine and will diminish a man’s masculinity. That is not the case, I think it makes you even more masculine to realize that you are a priority and to treat yourself as such. Taking care of yourself doesn’t have a gender because everyone needs to feel good in their own skin.

Manhattan tends to be pretty crowd over the summer because it is such a popular tourist destination. If you are looking for some less crowded spots in NYC to enjoy during the summer, you might want to think about taking a trip to Brooklyn. If you can make it out to Brooklyn, I would highly suggest it because it is not as crowded as Manhattan and there are some pretty neat things you can do. I think part of the problem is that people don’t know how much Brooklyn has to offer, but as a local, I am going to give you the inside scoop of some of the places you should definitely check out.
Prospect Park is probably one of my favorite places to go in Brooklyn. It is so spacious and filled with gorgeous greenery and architecture. Prospect Park has playgrounds and baseball diamonds for children where the whole family can have fun and spend quality time together. If you are looking for more of an intellectual adventure, I would suggest visiting the Prospect Park Zoo, the Audubon Center, and Lefferts Historic House. There is also the Lefrak Center which is relatively new to Prospect Park and has sprinklers, food, sports venues and boating areas. Prospect Park is very big and you can’t possibly do everything in one day, so I would recommend making multiple trips so you can take advantage of everything Prospect Park has to offer.
If you are like me, then you are always on Instagram looking through all of the latest food trends. Who doesn’t like food?! Smorgasburg is the largest weekly open-air food market in America. I have been to Smorgasburg several times and I always leave wanting to come back because there is so much delicious food to try. Smorgasburg is held at different locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn during the week giving everyone the opportunity to get their hands on some tasty food. Smorgasburg takes on Brooklyn on the weekends in Williamsburg on Saturday’s and at Prospect Park on Sunday’s. My favorite dish to get at Smorgasburg has to be the pizza cupcake and it not only tastes great, but it calls for the perfect Instagram pictures. Smorgasburg tends to get crowded very quickly so I recommend going as soon as it opens so you can get your hands on as much food as possible!
Brooklyn Bridge Park
Brooklyn Bridge Park is pretty crowded on the weekends, but if you visit during the week it tends to be pretty empty. Brooklyn Bridge Park is located alongside the East River and has a spectacular view the NYC skyline. You can walk alongside the river, relax on the sand, take a ride on a ferry and so much more. I usually go to Brooklyn Bridge Park to watch the fireworks on the 4th of July because you have a spectacular view and it is not as crowded as trying to maneuver into Manhattan.

June is Pride month and that celebrates love and rainbows. Now, if you are like me and love colors and showing support for those in the LGBT community, this is the perfect pool float for you! You could take a nap on this float and actually say that you slept on a cloud. For $25, this pool float will definitely brighten up your Instagram feed this summer!
New York City was filled with all of the colors of the rainbow on June 30 for World Pride. The Pride March was originally started to honor and remember those of the LGBTQ+ communities who we have lost, but as years have gone by it has come to not only celebrate love and tolerance, but the latest fashion trends. Here at Faviana we are all about empowering women to be their best selves and sometimes fashion can help us do that.
People at World Pride wear a variety of different clothing, colors, glitter and anything else that makes them feel happy and confident. This was my first ever World Pride and I knew that I wanted to go all-out with my look and that is exactly what I did. Whatever you decide to wear to Pride or on a daily basis, just remember feeling confident is key.
I decided to go with a black leotard for the top half of my outfit. The leotard was form fitting and definitely highlighted all of my curves which I loved. The leotard was long sleeve and was made of spandex material so it was both stretchy and comfortable. The leotard gave me the perfect opportunity to put some glitter on my chest which I thought was great for World Pride. I do have to say, that next time I will likely go for a shorter sleeve leotard. About halfway through the parade, I was extremely hot not only from wearing the color black, but having long sleeve with little breathing room.
The skirt was more of a personal choice. I usually don’t wear skirts because I don’t like showing my legs, but I decided that World Pride was the opportunity for me to step out of my comfort zone. I wanted to go for an all black look because I really wanted my glitter and rainbow makeup to stand out.
My inner emo side came out today with the black fishnet tights that I decided to wear. I had a difficult time putting on the tights because my toes kept getting stuck in the holes. I swear it took me over an hour to get on the tights because it was so confusing! After I finally got the tights on, I felt so cool and chic because I have never worn tights like those before. I think the tights added a little extra spunk to my already black outfit and made me feel super confident!
Since a majority of my outfit was black, I knew that I had to have some rainbow accessories. I decided to go with a rainbow butterfly cape because I did not want to be basic and wear a rainbow flag cape like everyone else. The butterfly cape was very sheer and lightweight which was perfect for such a hot day. There was a little string that I used to tie it around my neck which was convenient. I wish it came with wrist cuffs so I could have worn the wings on my arms like an actual butterfly. I think that is more of a personal style choice though. The butterfly cape made all of my rainbow fantasies come to life and I don’t think I could have picked a better rainbow accessory.
You can’t go to World Pride without wearing glitter. If you are a guy or a girl, it doesn’t matter. Glitter is for everyone. You can put glitter in your hair, on your eyes, in your beard, on your arms and legs and basically anywhere you want. I used the Tarte glitter gel pot in Pride and it gave me such a glow that I felt like a star. Glitter not only makes me feel confident, but I think it is great for really making a makeup look stand out!

Socializing is hard no matter where you live, but it is even more difficult if you live in a big city like New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, etc. We all want friends that we can get fashion tips from or spill secrets to, but it’s not that easy. Remember how simple it was in elementary school to ask a friend if you wanted to have a playdate and then 5 minutes later you were best friends? Well, it gets more difficult as you get older because you not only have more responsibilities and less time, but live in an age where people prefer to socialize on the Internet rather than in person. I have had a difficult time making friends over the years, especially in my teenage years, because I never found people who shared similar interests. That is when I decided to take matters in my own hands and find people who I can spend time with and those who will make my days better. Here are a few of the places I turned to when I wanted to make friends and hopefully they help you too!
MeetUp – Find New Friends And Build Local Communities
Meetup is a website that was developed to help people find others with similar interests and foster new friendships. One of the main goals of Meetup is for people to host and attend in-person gatherings as a way to socialize and meet new people. At first I was skeptical about joining Meetup because I was nervous about intruding on an already established group of people. On the website you can follow different interests and see different events in your area that you can attend. The website also has a chat feature where you can message different members which is nice because you know you have at least one thing in common with the people on here. When I used Meetup, I wanted to find friends in NYC that were as passionate about Disney as me and I came across the NYC Disney Fanatics. After looking through images of some of the past events, I decided to give it a try. I went to a Disney trivia brunch at a restaurant and midtown. It was really fun and I met people who loved Disney just as much as me. I made new friends who shared similar interests and met people that I actually enjoyed spending time with which I thought was never going to happen. I would recommend going to your first Meetup alone so you are actually forced to venture outside of your comfort zone and talk to new people!
You might be looking at me like I have three heads, but trust me. Bumble is not only for dating. Bumble has a setting called ‘Bumble BFF’ where you can find people to hang out with that live in your area. It is similar to the dating version because you swipe left and right, but the biographies list hobbies and personal interests rather than relationship preferences. I have met a few good friends on ‘Bumble BFF and we connected over our love for Broadway and trying different dessert places in NYC. I think ‘Bumble Friend’ is a great place to turn to because you can have individual talks first before you meet in person to feel out if you think it is going to be a success or not.
While this might seem crazy, hear me out. I am not talking about going to Madison Square Garden to see a really famous singer like Halsey, but more of smaller venue that hosts rising and local artists. Some of those venues in NYC include Webster Hall, Gramercy Theater, Irving Plaza and the Bowery Ballroom. While you still have to make the first move to talk in person, you know that you both like the band or musician you are seeing and you are going to be next to the person for the next couple hours, so why not make a new friend. One of my best friends to this day I met at a concert for my favorite band when I asked her if she could hold my spot while I used the bathroom. Sometimes friendships develop in the most unexpected ways, but a friend is a friend.
