Don’t fret if you need to take a trip with your pet! With a little bit of advance planning and preparation, the journey can be made as stress-free as possible for both you and your fur baby.
Should your pet stay or should they go?First up, traveling in different forms of transport and through strange environments can be stressful for a pet, as well as their owner. Think about whether your pet really needs to come with you on the journey, or whether they may be better to stay at home with a pet-sitter or have a short vacation in a cattery or dog kennels.
Get your pet’s health checked with your vet, especially if you are going to fly. Some animals are simply not well suited to some modes of transport, such as the pressurized environment of an airplane. Your vet may also have tips on the best ways to keep your pet calm while you are on the road or in the air.
Plan Your Route and Method of TransportWhen you have an animal with you, it pays to plan ahead as much as you can on. Find out as much as you can about what will be involved in getting from A to B. Know the route you are going to take, what services and facilities there are while you are traveling to look after you and your pet’s needs and what type of transport you will be using.
Transport providers, including airline carriers, all have their own policies whether they allow people to bring their pets onto different forms of transport. Some allow pets, some don’t. Some have restrictions around certain breeds and species. Most will have limitations on the number of animals and pets they can take on a flight.
Checking your preferred airline’s requirements ahead of time will save a lot in last minute searching for other options if you find your much-loved animal can’t board the same flight you’d hoped for. Transport providers may charge additional fees, have specifications to meet around pet carrier types and sizes, and require additional paperwork.
If you have an emotional support animal there are provisions under the Air Carrier Access Act for your ESA to fly with you if you either need them on the flight or at your destination. Airlines cannot charge additional fees for an ESA, but you must follow their policies at all times. These are likely to include advance notice of at least 48-hours, evidence of your eligibility for an ESA and other supporting documentation that your animal is safe to have in the cabin.
Just putting a little time and effort into the planning of how you will get to your destination will make the journey much smoother both with your pet and for your pet.
Get Your Pet Mentally Ready! That’s right! There are ways you can mentally prepare your pet for travel.
Desensitize your pet to any carriers or harnesses you are going to use well in advance. Have them around your home so they are used to entering and exiting on their own terms, and don’t associate it only with a potentially frightening experience such as a trip to the vet!
Train your pet, especially if you have a dog to respond to basic commands and your voice. Transport and hospitality providers can and do reject dogs with bad manners. Teaching your pet how to cope and behave in public will go a long way.
If your pet is not used to being in public, gradually introduce them to the different sounds they may hear while they are traveling.
Get Some Pet Gear TogetherYou may not need to pack a full-sized suitcase for your pet, but there is some pet gear and accessories to have on hand to make the trip easy.
Check that your pet carrier and/or harnesses meet the requirements of any airlines. These may include requirements around size, ventilation, and waterproofing the bases.
Remember to have any documentation you need to confirm either their health status or your eligibility to travel with an emotional support animal if you have one.
Make sure you have some form of identification for your pet that they can wear with a collar, or are easy to attach to their carrier. The ID should include the name of your animal, your name and contact details. Include a phone number you can be reached on while you are traveling just in case you do become separated.
Pets usually travel better on a slightly empty stomach. That way there is less risk of their stomachs being upset and vomiting due to motion sickness. However, do pack some water to keep your pet hydrated, treats to give as rewards, and a little of their normal food, if possible, in case you are delayed or on a very long route.
Have in your pet’s pack some paper towels or wet wipes to use for cleanups in case of toileting accidents, and doggy-do bags to hygienically dispose of any waste.
Don’t forget one of your pet’s favorite toys, or a small blanket or towel that they can snuggle into that is familiar smelling and comforting to them.
Take Care of Your Pets Needs during TravelPlan toilet stops for your pet before you board or embark on your journey. Most airport terminals have designated pet and animal relief areas. Allow time for your pet to relieve themselves before your board. If you are a road trip, find safe places to stop and allow your dog to do their business, or a cat to use a secure litter tray.
Stick with your pet as much as you can and stay by their side during travel. This is as reassuring to them to know that you are around for them as it is for you to see how they are doing.
Keep your pet hydrated, and reward them with lots of love and attention for taking the journey with you. Most of all enjoy each other’s company on your adventure no matter how long or short!
Ever since I’ve made the First Time Flyer Guide in Philippines airport blog post and also video that I’ve shared in my YouTube channel, I’ve got a number of questions about bags. May it be carry-on bags or checked in bags, some people need help in clarifying all about it. So I decided to answer their frequently asked questions.
I made a video answering the most commonly asked questions about carry-on bags on airlines and airports but do note that I can only speak of my trips here in the Philippines, since as your Philippines travel blogger I’ve been just flying around the country as of the moment and don’t have my own experience flying internationally – though I did fly out when I was 10, but that’s my parents taking care of the entire trip.
Frequently Asked Questions on Carry-on BagsThere might be questions that I’ve missed but let me know and leave it as a comment and I’ll try to make a 2 version or continuation of this, so make sure you’re subscribe to my channel so you’ll be updated with what I share. For the first time in the Philippines, Filipinos can now transfer and remit money at zero cost -- anywhere and anytime within the Philippines! In a country where remittance plays a big part in the lives of many, various money transfer services were made available. However, most of these financial service providers normally charge high fees for every money transfer transaction and often requires both the sender and receiver to spend on transportation or other related costs.
But that’s about to change because through the GCash App, the Philippines’ largest mobile wallet operated by Mynt, sending and receiving money within the Philippines is now made more convenient, accessible, faster, and totally Free! With a few taps, anyone can enjoy the free remittance service from GCash using their smartphone or feature phone. It only takes a few steps and is as simple as 1, 2, 3:
Create an account either through the GCash App or through your Facebook Messenger.
Fund your GCash wallet at any of the 15,000 GCash Partner Outlets nationwide or transfer funds from your bank account to your GCash Wallet,
Tap on the “Send Money” button and follow the steps either in-App or through Facebook Messenger to transfer money at zero cost for both sender and receiver.
Money will be instantly sent to the receiver in real time through the GCash App or Facebook Messenger and receivers may choose to remit it anytime at any Bancnet ATM using their GCash Mastercard or remit it over-the-counter during business hours in GCash Partner Outlets near them.
This game-changing free remittance service from GCash aims to improve the standard of living of the unbanked Filipinos and foster financial inclusion by providing them with a convenient and accessible platform right at their fingertips.
Every time there’s a new place that’s trending in Instagram or Facebook at least that is from here in Cebu. I don’t like pushing myself to get there, because that place will have at least a hundred of people coming in, and that’s no good photo for this Philippines travel blog.
So when I did hear about the Terrazas de Flores, it made me want to go there and visit the place but then again I was thinking about the transportation and the crowd. So I have to wait at least a year for peoples excitement of this place to die down.
I was able to finally visit it with my family for the first time, bringing 4 kids and other 3 adults with me. We rented a van from Cebu Trip Rent a Car since we’re traveling with kids, a senior, and there’s a lot of us for a car. So it’s more worth it to rent a van at least.
The Terrazas de FloresThe Terrazas de Flores is among the new tourist spot these days located in Busay Cebu city, it’s a botanical garden that have about 120 different species of local plants and flowers. Do note though that there’s no breath taking flowers here, or not as much as the Sirao Flower farm in Cebu since that’s a flower farm, and this is a botanical garden. But the place is so peaceful, that you can just relax there, eat, and enjoy your “alone” moment, yourself.
But I was not there by myself. And sadly, I wasn’t able to roam around the area because I was also babysitting my 1 year niece, my sister’s daughter who wants me to take care of her baby while she’s here having her vacation with us after 5 years apart. But luckily, I have my teenage nieces, and one of them is Kyle who “kind of” assisted me in making this video so that you guys could take a lot at the Terrazas de Flores Botanical Garden, watch our video!
Quick Stop at TERRAZAS DE FLORES in Busay Cebu - YouTube
Entrance Fee: P100/ head (adult) Opening Hours: 8AM to 12MN
We didn’t dine in there, because our next stop was near a known restaurant, and we’ll just fill our stomach there. But in here my nieces was able to try their own ice cream, and says it was good.
I plan to come back here to shoot a couple of sit down videos for my YouTube channel, so please subscribe to my channel and of course follow me on social media if you’d like to see more of the Terrazas de Flores in Busay or more of Cebu, or more about the Philippines!
How to get to Terrazas de Flores in Busay Cebu?As mentioned above we’ve rented a van from Cebu Trip Rent a Car, if I remember it right we rented it for P4,000 for 10 hours of renting it.
But if there’s just a few of you, you can do any of these.
Go To Tops. I prefer this option if there’s only like 2 or 3 of you, and especially if you want to be safe going up there. The road going to Busay Cebu is up, it’s a hill actually so I highly suggest a 4 wheel vehicle when going there. Rate going to Terrazas de Flores in Busay with them will depend if you just want to visit Terrazas de Flores, or just add the other top destinations in Busay – which I highly suggest to take advantage of your time in Busay. Visit their fanpage to get updates about their services and the rates.
Taxi. If there’s at most 4 of you, you can pay a taxi for the whole trip, it’s like renting a car, but it’s actually just a taxi. But if you want to be more safe, you can totally rent a car too. But taxi’s are totally fine. But they’re not up for metered trip there, you’ll have to pay them for the entire tour, even if you just want to go to Terrazas you’ll maybe charge an additional of 500 pesos to the meter because the transportation there is hard to get, and there’s not a lot of taxis there.
Habal-Habal. I don’t suggest this if you’re not an adventurous type kind of person. But it’s cheap and full of excitement, but yes dangerous. But these drivers are very experienced just follow their lead. My problem with this is that, you’ll most likely have just 1 hour at a destination if you don’t want to be charge for an additional for making them wait for more than an hour.
That’s all I can share at the moment, I’ll try to update this post once I have a revisit and update you as your Cebu travel blogger! But if you have anything to share with us. Feel free to comment it down below!
Although Cebu is an island and surrounded by beautiful beaches, one of the attractions that locals want to have is a waterpark. Not all of us are a fan of a beach, ocean water, that salty water, and want to have a place where kids can have a great and fun time with. Family bonding!
J Centre Mall opened a waterpark for us, and you might wonder where, it’s on its rooftop! It’s called the SKYWATERPARK CEBU!
When my sister got home from the US, after 5 years apart she wants to spend of course time with us, have some boding, bring the kids to a place where we all can have fun, and of course her little patotie to enjoy – who loves to swim! Like me. So I thought it would be nice to share it with you too our experience at the park, since some of you may have been wanting to go there and try it for yourself.
We only get the day use at Skywaterpark Cebu but if you wish to get an accommodation and get an access to the park, stay at the Toyoko Inn which is just right there at the park, also above the mall.
A day at the Skywaterpark Cebu was enough for us. But if you wish to find out what you’ll be able to enjoy for your P1,500 (Php) for a day use at the park, then this is it. In their day use you’ll be able to enjoy…
THE WATERPARKThere are two (2) swimming pools that you’ll be able to enjoy and have an access to even just for a day use at Skywaterpark Cebu. The safest for the kids is the one with the slides, and a bucket of water pouring. It’s where we spent most of our time with since we have a little kid with us, but the water that day got a little too much chlorine though, it stings! If you’ve been there, let me know if it’s the same with you, leave it as a comment below!
Use of waterpark from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
INFINITY POOLAs mentioned, you’ll be able to enjoy 2 pools, and the other pool is where adults like us will most likely enjoy. But there’s still a part where kids with at least 3 – 4 feet high can enjoy. This pool though got a part where you’ll be able to see the city of Mandaue, it’s the infinity pool part of the pool.
Be careful here though, don’t let your kids sit on or hang over the infinity pool since they can fall from the building and some parents there are kind of hard headed though the staff there keeps telling them not to do that.
Also, going there is a bit deeper. It’s more than 5 feet, and I’m 5’4” and I have 2 kids hanging on to me to get to see the infinity pool. So just hang on the sides just in case you get cramps. SEB’S WONDERLANDWe actually went there around 1pm (if I remember it right), and I totally forgot that they have this Seb’s Wonderland kind of show for kids where their mascot Seb will be playing with your kids. This actually makes it a lot of fun for kids, family boding, and I love it! But we were too late to join in.
DINNER BUFFETIncluded for your day use is a dinner buffet, their food are okay. But here’s a tip, grab some desserts first because it can ran out fast. But make sure you’ll be able to finish what you grab, since it’s a buffet.
PASUNDAYAG CULTURAL AND FIRE SHOWSays who that kids gets all the fun? While you are having your dinner, there are a group of dancers there that will be entertaining you with Filipino cultural dances, plus a fire show! It showcases Filipino dances, which is great! Though they’re modern, they don’t leave the thought to show guests about Filipinos.
I actually was able to make a video blog about our experience with a day use at Skywaterpark Cebu but I forgot my gopro that day that’s why I was using my sister’s iphone 8 – just to explain about the title.
FAMILY BONDING AT SKYWATERPARK CEBU - YouTube
FUN FACT: The owner of J Centre Mall, Jpark Resort, and Skywaterpark are the same.
I’ve included the entire day of experience at Skywaterpark in the video, to give you the idea what it’s like. And also get insights from my niece.
If you’ve got any questions about our experience there, let us know! Leave it as a comment below!
NOTE: - The 1,500php day use we had is for a sunday. I am not sure if there's a weekday. - 1,500php is per person, adults and kids 12 years old and above.
Just few weeks ago I received a package from a friend, I know he was sending me a power bank but I didn’t know that it was NOT AN ORDINARY POWER BANK.
He sent me this Promate Armor 10 Power bank with 10,000 mAh capacity, and I was so excited to open and use it right away! After using it for days now, I’d like to share with you the 10 things I love about this product. Thinking, maybe I’m not the only one who’ll be loving this product and you too might be interested with this – especially if you’re like me, a traveler, and clumsy.
WATERPROOFPromate Armor 10 is IP68 certified which means it has been tested using the international IP68 certification for water protection. That means, that when you’re in an island hopping here in the Philippines, the days of getting rattled of your power bank getting wet from the water even just a drop are gone!
The Promate Armor 10 can be immersed in the water up to 3 feet or 1 meters for 30 minutes!
CHARGING IN THE WATERSWith this device, you can also charge your phone (of course water proof phone) while you’re swimming because it has the water proof port included and a cord for you to use to charge while on the waters – super cool!
No more missed photos or videos, just because you ran out of battery. SHOCKPROOFThe Promate Armor 10 power bank is made with a durable polycarbonate and ABS material which means my friends, this power bank can stand clumsy persons like me! And that really makes me happy with this product because not all products (even from shoes to phones) can last with me for at least 6 months.
TOUGH, STURDY, AND RUGGEDAnd because it’s of course shockproof, of course it can withstand drops, snow, dirt and even water!
Just look at the design. You can really tell that even a high drop can’t break this power bank in one blow. LIGHTWhen I saw it from its box, I was like “Damn, this power bank is tough and looks heavy”. I was wrong.
The Promate Armor 10 power bank is 1.05 thin, and only weight at 8.04oz while my other power bank that the other company says only weights 215 grams (or 7.58oz) but why do I feel like the his one (the Armor 10) is way lighter than the one that I have and bought. COMPATIBLE FOR ALL DEVICE
The Promate Armor 10 power bank has a USB-C port both in and out, micro USB input, lighting charging input, Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 port, and of course the water proof charging port! That means you can charge anything from your Apple devices, Android, or even tablet or camera! I also think I can charge a drone with this – well, I don’t have the drone yet but, hey! This is great!
SUPER-FAST CHARGINGDue to its Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 capability, this power bank is fully Quick Charge-compatible, which means that you can enjoy the benefit of always getting power wherever you are in a short amount of time. WITH A FLASHLIGHTNow, this is another thing that I didn’t expect from any power bank but it did. As someone who travels, you don’t when you need a flashlight, and not all of us have those expensive water proof phones or those flashlights that can handle water.
Why not have this? Your devices are powered up, and you get a free flashlight. Totally useful when you’re out doors, and sometimes when you’re just at home – you can easily grab this in a blackout.
CAN BE CLIPPED ONI always complain on having to put my phone in the bigger compartment of my bag so that I’ll be able to charge it with my power bank. But this? I can easily just clip on the Promate Armor 10 power bank on the outside of my bag, and be able to charge my phone while using my phone or my phone on my pocket!
Your power bank is then be very accessible. And yes, they included the clip when you buy this power bank!
DESIGNED FOR ADVENTURERS. TRAVELERS, LIKE MEI know it’s the feature, but the entire thing. I feel like I somewhat requested this product made and they hear me out. A lot of my worries, concern, and wishes have been answered here as someone who travels, who’s clumsy, who lives in a country that any time there’s a power outage.
I always seek a reliable and durable device for me, not only in traveling but also for work. With this Promate Armor 10 power bank I can be more confident that I’d be able to stay connected through my phone, online, and capture moments because this power bank is a reliable partner.
For those who’d like to see more about this product, please subscribe to my YouTube channel. As I’m writing this I’m looking for a place and preparing to test this product to give you guys more visuals and show you what this product is like. So watch out for my video!
If what I shared right now satisfies you and you wish to grab it right away. Then you may grab this item at the following stores for Php 3,995 which comes with 18 months warranty.
(Update: As of July 25, 2018 - Out of stock in Lazada. You can buy it at Promate stores at SM North EDSA, and Robinsons Manila)
Promate is a digital lifestyle electronic accessory brand focused on delivering the most specialized and original electronic peripheral solutions for Smartphones, Tablets & laptops. When I was in college and new here in Cebu, way before I started to your Cebu travel blogger or evens started blogging, and then being a resident for years, I’ve been hearing about this place they call Tops Lookout.
A number of my friends wants to bring me and tag me along with them but they want to come at night and since my brother whom I’m living with is strict, I couldn’t go out at night or even come home late – and late for him was like 6pm. I’ve heard though that it’s hard to get there and can be dangerous, so I never attempted.
But now, after jumping a 30 feet cliff when I’ve done the Cebu Canyoneering, I’ve got a feeling that what I’ve done at the canyoneering is more dangerous. Plus the rise of a number of tourist spots in Busay Cebu, and a number of tourists being able to go there, and of course the progress of Cebu Philippines I’ve got a feeling that it is not that dangerous anymore and is more accessible.
TOPS LOOKOUTTops is located at Busay Cebu City, it is still part of Cebu city but it’s more on the high land part of Cebu city. So it’s colder there and of course, the view is the city.
There are about at least 5 restaurants there that you can choose from, but they’re a bit overpriced which is understandable since it’s on the mountains and they have to transport their food and ingredients from downtown. But if you’re with a group and in a budget, you can totally bring your own food, and eat it at the left side where there are tables and chairs available for you to stay at.
I was able to visit there thrice my entire life, and the entire time I’ve been living in Cebu. And this time I was able to make a video blog about our experience there, and so here’s something you can watch to see what you can expect from the Tops Lookout Cebu.
ON TOP OF CEBU - LOOKOUT AND RESTAURANT - YouTube
Entrance Fee: P100 / head Opening Hours: 11am - 11pm
HOW TO GET THERE?The easiest way to go there and visit the tourist spots of Busay is renting a car. We rented a van with Cebu Trip Rent a Car, they have cars too just in case you’re in a smaller group. There are also Taxi drivers who offer tours there in Busay but don’t forget to haggle.
Via Habal-Habal (Motorbike with Driver) You can go to JY Square and there are motorbikes there with a driver that offers to bring you to Busay. Actually they do go to the top tourist spots in Busay, and you can tell them that you wish to go to Tops Lookout. I don’t suggest this for those who have a weak heart, or people that is easily scared. It can be an adventure going up to the hills of Busay.
Via Go to Tops Van Go to Tops is I believe a transportation van by Tops Lookout but they offer to pick up and drop you off on the top tourist spots there. You can just choose Tops Lookout Cebu, or add other tourist spots like the Sirao Flower Farm, or the famous Temple of Leah. Visit their fan page for the updated pricing and services they offer.
Love traveling yet wants to earn at the same time? Sure that there are a lot of things one can do these days. But getting a way to earn and travel at the same time is something we would love to grab, perhaps. Having a work-life balance is something we all want and from #LiveBrighter Forum held at Quest Hotel last July 28, you can make that happen!
Live Brighter Forum
The forum was all about being Sun Life Financial Advisor. It tackles about Sun Life’s history and how many people they’ve touched hearts and lives for better.
Ranked as one of the insurance companies that have strong and superior reputation based on the standard and poor's ratings and A.M. Best respectively, this shows how financially stable and capable Sun Life is as a whole. As people are getting familiar with insurance and its benefits, the more being financial advisor gets interesting.
Being a Sun Life Financial Advisor, according to Ms. Marga Bernardo – one of the speakers of the forum, you get to enjoy a lot of benefits and here is the 7 things part of it:
Flexibility – enjoy the opportunity to work at your preferred schedule. Yes, that is anytime, anywhere. This perfectly suits for travelers or those who simply wander and would love to earn at the same time!
Earn as much as you want – The sky is the limit as the saying goes. When you become a financial advisor, the more clients you get, the more earnings you get too.
Huge Market Potential – the insurance penetration nationwide is 2%. This means that the higher chance financial advisors get clients to invest for Sun Life.
Spread Sun Life’s Advocacy – When you become a financial adviser for Sun Life, you work for a noble cost in helping people in managing their money.
A Place to Work – if you want to work in an office-based set up, Sun Life has your back. They have different offices across Cebu which you can select when you become part of them.
Sales Tools – Laptops, projectors, advertising tool, and are more provided.
Support - Training professional development, facilitation of government and regulatory licenses, and advertising and promotion are provided for free!
How to Earn?
Becoming financial advisor (FA), you earn through commission. You get to enjoy commissions for every new business opened and so as renewals. What’s interesting about being FA for Sun Life is that you get rewarded for your hard work. Provided that you hit certain parameters, you get qualified for bonuses and rewards such as all-expense paid trip both local and international (which sure you will love!), gift certificates, and a lot more!
For reference, destinations in 2017 were the following: Taiwan-Japan Cruise, Sydney Australia in May, and Palawan (August), Poland (April to May), Shangrila (September in Cebu) all for free.
At Sun Life, you don't just be enjoying commission and earnings but also experience fun. These are all offered if you become Financial Advisor.
When you decide to become part of Sun Life, you don’t stay as financial advisor forever. If they see potential in you, you can get promoted to being a manager candidate then to a unit manager, and so for until you become a new business manager.
To prove that Sun Life values their people, a Million Dollar Round Table member was invited to be one of the speakers of the said forum as well. He is none other than Mr. Don Ursal, a Cebuano who started his career as an ordinary BPO employee and is now a Manager Candidate.
When you become a Million Dollar Round Table member, you are not just an ordinary financial advisor. You don’t get commission of a few thousands but of million, 1.3M in commission to be exact. If that’s something you see yourself of becoming one day, then make sure to answer this reality check: Are you satisfied with your career right now? Are you living to work? Or working to live?
To learn more about being financial advisor, talk to a SL’s financial advisor or you can visit any Sun Life office in the city or you can visit www.sunlife.com.ph for details.
