Welcome to DyandraRaye.com, a fashion & travel website designed to elevate your lifestyle! Growing up with a serious style influence I noticed how deeply rooted both passions were to me. I started as my Mom’s guinea pig for her designs while hopping on flights to see the world with my Dad. Unknown to me then, fashion and travel would be a way to open my eyes to the world and inspire my..
Hair is a key part of your overall look, much like nails, true style is from head to toe! We all know those day so well, when your hair looks a mess, so you stay indoors. I started messing with my hair in 2005, bone straight and bleach blonde was the style of my choice. Over the years my natural curl pattern started changing, limp strands appeared, and the damage began. I can still hear my Mom saying “Dyandra, you’re going to ruin that beautiful head of hair?” And I did, my hair did in fact break completely off. After dying my hair black and leaving it alone, my hair was still open to the elements. So I joined the no heat challenge, wearing Havana Twists, Braids, and Faux Dreads back to back for almost 2 years. My hair grew from my ears to my shoulders and I was feeling fine, that was until I straightened my hair twice in one year and my curls started falling flat on one side! Although I loved what the protective styles did, I needed to either cut my hair off completely or rejuvenate my curls. I chose the later and headed straight to […]
Spring is on it’s way, even though it barely feels like it, meaning you need to stock up on one of this season’s hottest patterns, stripes! According to the fashion gurus, graphic stripes are going to be seen everywhere after making their debut in Pre Fall 2018 collections. I happened to find this dress during a quick shopping stint in Zara Philadelphia on Walnut Street. The Trafaluc section is always a go to of mine, trendy and affordable! As soon as I laid my eyes on this piece, I knew it needed a place in my closet. Maxi dresses are ideal for Spring when the weather is transitioning but you still want to look the part. You can wear them with boots and a jacket (as pictured) in colder weather, or sandals once it warms up. Stay on trend in stripes and bring on spring! This dress is less than 2 weeks old so it’s not online yet, however give Zara a few more weeks and it should pop up. For now you can check in store or if you want to shop asap, ASOS has you covered with two similar options, here and here! What make’s this particular piece special is the funnel […]
One thing that always makes me feel like a lady, is having my nails done. It’s like the addition to the perfect outfit, a detail that never goes unnoticed. I used to get acrylic nails to follow the stiletto nails trend until my nails became brittle and damaged. Following in the foot steps of my no heat challenge (post coming soon), I started a no fake nails challenge in a effort to strengthen my nails! I went back to gel nails and my manicurist told me that they were now even too weak for that. Familiar with those white lines and bends after a “take off”, so was I. So normal manicures it was, but I needed them to last longer than the average nail polish because trekking back and forth to the salon was not happening. How can a manicure stay fresh? (because we all know how instantly regular manicures can chip) That question lead me to Essie’s new Gel Couture nail polish, that lasts for almost two weeks and stains like gel. Since then my nails have gotten stronger, and longer! Essie is right on trend and is releasing this line in all the newest shades, especially Spring […]
Tried and true, I bring you comfortable yet stylish airport attire for the on-the-go woman! Travel has been picking up in my schedule, especially 4 hours or more rides, so I must put together outfits that I can wear on flights comfortably. This look had to be effortless yet stylish, ideal when taking a cab or train to the terminal. Traveling stylishly keeps your on your toes no matter where you are and ready for anything when you touch down! When dressing for the “rush to the plane” sprint, you want to look calm even when you’ve got 30 minutes to make your flight. The key is to create a look that you can wear out later, just in case something happens with your luggage (oh the joys of crowded flights). I opted for comfortable sneakers that I found on Zara’s End of Season Sale for $25 with stretch black wax denim. Wear fabrics that you can wipe spills off easily when traveling (crowds + small spaces = spills) like wax, leather or stain resistant denim. A basic sweater in silver (not seen) was my shirt of choice because of the breathable fabric and it’s wrinkle proof, perfect for hours of sitting. What […]
Happy Black History Month! If you follow me on social media you’ve seen me call out the fact that there is not enough publicity around black representatives in the fashion & blogging-digital influencing world. This is not a blog post to be exclusive, this is actually one to ask that we are inclusive and represent all races that walk this earth, because let’s face it there are many outlets that simply don’t see us. First let me start by saying that Black History should be more than a month, but that’s another topic! I started blogging in college when it didn’t even have a name, and then stopped when I went into the corporate world. I picked it back up because it was truly something that I loved, but at first I was hesitant because of how “oversaturated” blogging had become. Little did I know, there actually were not that many black bloggers. In fact when I made the style board for the Owning Your Style post, I started off with easy to find visuals for types of style. After deciding to focus on style in the black community it took me hours to come across any examples! Fashion has […]
Fashion is all about clothes, shoes, and accessories, but style is a different story! Style is all about confidence in your clothes and making the right choices for your figure! I always tell my clients that it really doesn’t matter what you have on as long as you love it and it fits well! How many times has Rihanna rocked what some would call “questionable outfits” but her confidence and body language made it work? If you’re looking to elevate your style, the first step is becoming confident in your clothes and owning your style! Building Confidence in Your Clothing Choices It’s so important to figure out and accept what your body type is. Let’s face it, not everyone is the stick thin model that you see on the runway meaning that not everything on that model is going to look good on you! Just because you can afford to buy the latest styles doesn’t mean you’re going to look great in everything that is out there. Behold, an easy way to figure out what your body type is! These are the most common shapes that pretty much encompass most women. If you’re an Apple Shape you are going […]
In the world of shopping for clothes, online stores have made it easier than ever to get fashion fast (I.E. the term Fast Fashion.) Instead of trekking to the stores, waiting in long unorganized register lines, fighting for a stall in a messy fitting room, loosing your merchandise to the attendant on the way out, then walking back to where you started from to get a replacement; you can simply click, ship, and be done! There are a host of online stores that sell fashionable clothes at affordable prices, perfect for the in season. But with the rise of popularity comes scams! That’s right, consumers have ordered items that come not as pictured on the website, poorly made to a point where it is trashed after one wear, never showed up or comes in late, customer service never responds via email; trust me the list could go on! Fortunately for you, I’ve created a list of online stores who are reputable and reliable. After all who wants to hassle over an “easy” process? Instead shop online in style! Shop Online In Style 1- Tobi.com, who happens to be the designer of this cozy off the shoulder sweater dress. They have a […]
