Sheer has always been a stylist favorite, an easy way to create a dramatic look! Not to mention that it’s perfect for the hot summer weather because of the breathable fabric. The sheer overlay has made a comeback and you can actually do it yourself, I transformed a bathing suit cover-up by cutting out the bottoms to create a full-on sheer overlay! I cut the bottoms out of this skirt so that it was just plain sheer, making it more versatile and ready to wear off the beach. Summer suede hot pants, that are actually to short to wear on their own, were the layering piece for underneath.  The sexiness of the skirt was toned down with an oversized white shirt dress, creating a casual chic look. There are several ways to dress up or even down, a sheer overlay, check out inspo on my latest summer sheer Pinterest board. You can even see the pin that inspired this playful yet easy to create look! The pop factor was my summer sandals that are playful and surprisingly easy to walk in. You can shop this exact pair (plus a wedge version) here using the page from my newest collab (thankful) with […]

If you have a voice, then why not use it to empower others? The best way I know how is through fashion, using style statements as a way to send a message. Theory recently launched Be Heard, a women’s leadership series the celebrates entrepreneurship, innovation, and change. Lucky to take part in one of the panels, I was inspired to continue using my passion to push my purpose, making a statement with style! Much like the bold statement that I made with my Not My President shirt, as millennials we have the platforms to speak out against marginalizations, injustice and support fashion for a cause. Not only did this Be Heard shirt speak volumes and support my status as a black woman in America aiming to defy stereotypes, my sunglasses by DIFF Eyewear support those in need. Contemporary eyewear without the frills makes these affordable specs a no-brainer purchase, and for every pair you buy a child with optical issues receives much-needed help! I am rocking the Izzy glasses in pink for a summer fresh look. My vegan summer bag is from none other than Amazon.com, buy this for $22 and save on style. This Be Heard shirt is sold out however I’ve listed […]

“Oh my god I love your look, where did you get it from?!” My answer usually entails a response like “it was my mother’s from the 80’s” or “my favorite vintage store” or “inspiration from an old magazine!” I’m putting it all on the table, highlighting vintage pieces in previous posts and now going full force with my best vintage style tips. Living by the quote, you don’t have to be rich to be fashionable, you will find me mixing hi’s with lo’s as I appreciate a good thrifted (or borrowed from my Mother’s closet) find. Fashion eras repeat themselves, current looks are just new a way of thinking about old ideas. This makes appreciating vintage a great way to maximize your wardrobe and update historic ideas so that you can stand out from the masses! Whenever I put together a vintage based outfit, especially during photoshoots like this one, people come up and ask me all kind of questions about it’s origin. I grabbed this tropical jumpsuit for a luau themed party last year from my go-to in Brooklyn, 10 Ft By Single Stella Dallas. I knew it would become a closet staple, a skort a.k.a “one of fashion’s greatest […]

I recently made a lifestyle change with my partner and went Vegan! It’s been 9 months and I’m feeling better than ever, inside-out. From food to fashion, supporting cruelty free brands is my ultimate goal. I decided to change my diet after a lifetime of not eating pork or red meat, so growing up I never craved it. I was a heavy chicken eater and that pretty much went into every meal.  Then after not liking the taste, I cut out chicken (sounds unbelievable but it happened). Next came fish, I ate it all the time but it wasn’t helping my digestive system so that had to go. Last was my lactose intolerant issue,  I spent a lot of my spare time being sick from eating cheese and dairy. A part of the American diet, I tried to “stomach it” but eventually I grew tired of spending my spare time feeling terrible and eating animals just to have a decent meal! The final straw was when we watched What The Health and more light was shed onto why all the things I was conditioned to eat made me feel like crap. So with all that said,  I decided to go […]

This post should really be titled “how to plan a trip to Tulum in 5 days and while on a budget” but that title seemed to long! I planned a quick trip to Mexico that was worth the slight paranoia and many hours of research. We decided to skip Mexico’s party spot Cancun all together and travel deep into the jungle of Tulum. This last minute couples trip came together perfectly, with much to do and see. For less than $1000 per person you can make your way to Mexico, stay, enjoy excursions, and dine out as much as you want. We booked our flights 5 days before we left for less than $400 each. This is definitely a spot worth visiting more than once, think of it as a yearly quick getaway spot. We met many Americans who frequently escape to Tulum on the weekends or for short trips, just to refresh and revive, which is always necessary! This trip was all about unplugging and unwinding, so I didn’t post any photos on my timeline while I was away, except for a few quick Instastory highlights. These days in the land of “look at me” social media, we all […]

This post should be really be titled “how to plan a trip in .05 seconds & on a budget so that you can relax & unplug and unwind” but that title seemed to long! I planned a quick trip to Mexico that was worth the slight paranoia (type A problems) and many hours of research. Spring is creeping up and slowly showing it’s face, and as always there are lots of showers. Now you can embrace the wet weather with transparent accessories. Made of PVC materials, this see through trend is waterproof and now fashionable. I remember when I was a little girl and I had clear bags and shoes, fashion is all about taking old trends and reinventing them, improving the wheel. This season designers like Burberry & Fenty by Puma have debuted these see-through pieces on the runways last fall. Now it’s made it’s way off the runways and ready for the streets, at a fraction of the price! Mixing high and low is essential to creating a wardrobe that makes sense, even celebrities are picking up on this way of fashion life. Some trends that come and go aren’t always worth investing in so fast fashion has made it easy to grab runway inspired looks without breaking the bank. I grabbed this clear raincoat from Ebay for $20, who has completely revamped their marketing and became a fashion mecca for authentic and inspired pieces. $19.99 for a coat that I will wear a few times in the Spring, sounded like music to my […]

Hair is a key part of your overall look, much like nails, true style is from head to toe! We all know those day so well, when your hair looks a mess, so you stay indoors. I started messing with my hair in 2005, bone straight and bleach blonde was the style of my choice. Over the years my natural curl pattern started changing, limp strands appeared, and the damage began. I can still hear my Mom saying “Dyandra, you’re going to ruin that beautiful head of hair?”  And I did, my hair did in fact break completely off. After dying my hair black and leaving it alone, my hair was still open to the elements.  So I joined the no heat challenge, wearing Havana Twists, Braids, and Faux Dreads back to back for almost 2 years. My hair grew from my ears to my shoulders and I was feeling fine, that was until I straightened my hair twice in one year and my curls started falling flat on one side! Although I loved what the protective styles did, I needed to either cut my hair off completely or rejuvenate my curls. I chose the later and headed straight to […]

Spring is on it’s way, even though it barely feels like it, meaning you need to stock up on one of this season’s hottest patterns, stripes! According to the fashion gurus, graphic stripes are going to be seen everywhere after making their debut in Pre Fall 2018 collections. I happened to find this dress during a quick shopping stint in Zara Philadelphia on Walnut Street. The Trafaluc section is always a go to of mine, trendy and affordable! As soon as I laid my eyes on this piece, I knew it needed a place in my closet. Maxi dresses are ideal for Spring when the weather is transitioning but you still want to look the part. You can wear them with boots and a jacket (as pictured) in colder weather, or sandals once it warms up. Stay on trend in stripes and bring on spring! This dress is less than 2 weeks old so it’s not online yet, however give Zara a few more weeks and it should pop up. For now you can check in store or if you want to shop asap, ASOS has you covered with two similar options, here and here! What make’s this particular piece special is the funnel […]

One thing that always makes me feel like a lady, is having my nails done. It’s like the addition to the perfect outfit, a detail that never goes unnoticed. I used to get acrylic nails to follow the stiletto nails trend until my nails became brittle and damaged. Following in the foot steps of my no heat challenge (post coming soon), I started a no fake nails challenge in a effort to strengthen my nails! I went back to gel nails and my manicurist told me that they were now even too weak for that. Familiar with those white lines and bends after a “take off”, so was I. So normal manicures it was, but I needed them to last longer than the average nail polish because trekking back and forth to the salon was not happening. How can a manicure stay fresh? (because we all know how instantly regular manicures can chip) That question lead me to Essie’s new    Gel Couture nail polish, that lasts for almost two weeks and stains like gel. Since then my nails have gotten stronger, and longer! Essie is right on trend and is releasing this line in all the newest shades, especially Spring […]
