Professional MUA Emmily Banks bringing out the Depths of Beauty. Supporting natural, organic, nourishing and non toxic beauty. Her mission is to learn, share and educate people about the depths of beauty....there is more than what meets the eye, especially when it comes to skin care, makeup and all personal care and beauty products!
We're all about cruelty free beauty here at Depths, and vegan products in particular are finding their spotlight in the natural beauty space, matching the current rapidly increasing rate of people who associate with a vegan lifestyle.
WHY VEGAN LIPSTICKS?
Certified Vegan lipsticks mean the brand is not testing on animals - so our little bunnies, guinea pigs and mice are safe
Many mainstream lippies derive colouring from our animal friends - like carmine, a bright red pigment from the cochineal beetle, or lanolin, from sheep’s wool
Vegan lippies are incredibly nourishing, using yummy ingredients like shea butter, jojoba and natural oils like olive and coconut, to ensure our lips are super kissable. Plus, they taste yummy too! It’s a win-win!
This beautiful brand offers all vegan Peta certified and clean cosmetics - when Peta backs a brand, you are onto a GOOD thing. These lippies are straight from the US, and available via The Well Store here in Aus:
Founded by a professional makeup artist, so the product really performs
Ingredients include coconut oil, shea butter, vitamin E and jojoba offering hydration, soothing dry lips and long lasting performance
A variety of shades and finishes available from bright and shiny to neutral and matte
You guys know how much we love the entire Inika product range, and their vegan lipsticks are no exception!
Featuring certified organic argan, avocado and jojoba oils
A beautifully creamy application, nourishing and hydrating for the lips
Colours range from creamy nudes and pastels to richer winter shades
WHEN IT COMES TO CHOOSING VEGAN...
Remember: just because a product is vegan, doesn’t necessarily make it 100% naturally derived.
Key carcinogenic/toxic ingredients to look out for in your lippies include:
Anything difficult to pronounce or with a number code stuck to the end of it
WHY WE LOVE THE WELL STORE
Not only is The Well Store an incredible online hub for all things natural beauty, BUT their VEGAN search tab makes it SUPER easy to find products that are certified vegan - they do the thinking for us, and feature some of our favourite vegan brands, including:
While Winter can be a challenge to some (ahem, Team Depths!) being able to snuggle under your favourite blanket with a hot cup of tea is certainly one of its perks.
Herbal teas come with an array of benefits depending on the herbs and spices they contain, and are also a fabulous (and easy) way of ensuring you keep your water intake up during the colder months.
It’s important however that we choose a good quality, organic tea packed full of nourishing ingredients.
Let’s consider for a moment just how we brew a beautiful cup of tea – we literally boil and steep the tea to extract all of its content. If the chosen tea is not organic, along with extracting all of its goodies, we are also extracting a bunch of harmful pesticides and herbicides.
To avoid this, we want to ensure the tea we choose is organic, so remember to keep an eye out for the Australian Certified Organic stamp when making your selection.

Here at Depths we are advocates for cultivating beauty from WITHIN, and WITHOUT. Beauty is an inside job, after all. We are spoiled for choice when it comes to beautifying ourselves from the outside - but what we use to support our skin INSIDE is just as important.
While we are all about eating foods that support our gut health and overall wellbeing (you know the drill - organic, preservative-free, as close to natural as possible…) - sometimes, a little beauty boost goes a long way.
Here are a few of our favourite inner-beauty products for cultivating beauty from within!
WHY IS INNER BEAUTY IMPORTANT?
A healthy functioning gut = beautiful skin, clear eyes and luscious locks
When we FEEL physically good, we glow - the inner health becomes outer health
Because when we are our healthiest, happiest selves it shines from within - the radiance of wellbeing beats any highlighter!
Our skin cell health relies on the Vitamins, Minerals, antioxidants and other nutrients we consume and when we ensure we are nourishing our bodies effectively it will be reflected in our hair, skin, nails, complexion and energy levels
At Depths, we believe that growing old is a privilege, we love smile lines and think there is nothing more beautiful than embracing our skin and bodies as we mature. There are ways however, that we can protect our bodies and skin against oxidative stress to slow this process down and ensure we are feeling our absolute best and that our skin is in the best possible condition it can be in given the huge amounts of free radicals we are faced with daily.
Oxidative stress is the inability of the body to counteract free radicals with antioxidant protection. Free radicals are unstable molecules that can interfere with DNA and can cause cell damage. When this happens to our skin cells we notice changes in skin elasticity, texture and vibrance so they key youthful looking skin is keeping these cells healthy and happy.
This is why the word antioxidant is thrown around SO much! But what does it mean? Antioxidants are basically what protect our bodies and skin from oxidative stress caused my free radicals. They protect cells from damage and can even repair damaged cells.
Here are some of the best supports for preventing oxidative stress and boosting the body with antioxidants for youthful, glowing skin!
Super high in antioxidants
It has an ORAC value of 300 000 compared to blueberries who have 6000
They are also antiseptic, antibacterial and anti-fungal
Great for tooth and gum health too
Can protect skin cells because of its high antioxidant profile
Antimicrobial and antibacterial
Can reduce the appearance of uneven skin tone and skin irritation
You can incorporate these age-defying, rich sources of antioxidants into your life in a number of ways. We are big users of essential oils here at Depths so love to topically apply these oils or add them to food. You can also cook with these sources as wholefoods or try using them in your morning smoothie or coffee- Chaga bulletproof anyone?
Here are some products using these amazing antioxidant sources...
Vanessa Megan Darling Natural Perfume
Not only does this perfume smell divine, it is packed with essential oils too- including Clove. If you can’t get Clove into your diet, this is a great way to let Clove essential oil absorb through the skin for antioxidant, free radical protection.
We love our au naturale skincare and makeup but what about body products? Our skin is our LARGEST organ and any products we are using on our entire bodies (like body lotions and body wash) have the potential to really impact our health due to the surface area they cover (our skin absorbs 60-90% of what we put on it) so we REALLY want to avoid toxic nasties in body products! Here are some of our favourite ways to ensure the skin on our bodies are really being taken care of!

A SLEEP EXPERTS TOP 3 TIPS FOR WINDING DOWN...
As told by Sleep Expert Rachel Holm from Hanako Therapies:
Create a sanctuary for yourself and create some mindful rituals. When you arrive home from a day of work let yourself relax. Get comfy, keep the lights dimmed, create ambience with candles and place some relaxing essential oils in a diffuser to set the tone. Take a nice hot bath with a dreamy bath soak to destress the mind and body or take a hot shower and drop a few drops of Lavender pure essential oil on the floor and breathe deeply then wear all white when you get out, you’ll instantly feel lighter and brighter and feel yourself physically, emotionally and mentally unwind.
Create a sacred hour before bed where you take time to do something for yourself that is relaxing and chill. Honour this time. Keep negativity to a minimum, this means know thyself…. If you know social media, blue light from the screen or emails are going to set you into a spin then set a time limit to this activity and do it in the early hours of the evening, if at all. Then or instead, try reading a feel good, mindful or uplifting book, or, begin a journal for dumping thoughts, emotions and ideas. Don’t read it back just use it to creatively express yourself and all that runs through the mind at the time. Dump, dump, dump, and let it all go.
Meditate using Left Nostril breathing. This activates our Ida energy, our Moon energy. The moon energy is reflective, calm and cooling. Sit in a comfortable position with the spine straight. Place the left-hand palm up on the left knee. Lift your right hand to the nose, with your fingers outstretched, gently block of your right nostril with your thumb. Breathe in through the Left nostril for a count of 4 and exhale out through the left nostril for a count of 4. Try this exercise for 3 minutes then see if you can build to 11 mins. This Meditation will encourage deep and full relaxation for a better night’s sleep. You’ll also feel clearer and focused.

There’s nothing like giving your skin a little TLC when the weather’s getting cooler. Change in weather can really dry out skin and can leave our skin feeling tight, flaky and scaly. BUT! There is an easy way to ensure the delicate skin on our face is getting enough love and staying hydrated, supple and glowing throughout the cooler months... enter scrubs! Scrubs can help shed dead skin cells and buff away flaky and scaly skin leaving skin feeling clean, clear and ready to most optimally absorb your moisturiser/serum/oils. Dead skin cells can block pores and prevent moisture from being readily absorbed so by buffing these away your skin is left the best chance to rehydrate.
Here are some of our favourite scrubs!

I found my skin felt calm, happy and looked very smooth using this one.
