As this spring season begins, often we feel the natural inclination to cleanse our space, be it our closet, home, office, garden, etc. Outside the realm of cleaning our physical homes this natural call to cleanse can be turned inward. Purification and cleansing for our bodies, our true home of the soul. We live in a miraculous world, booming with technology and endless external stimuli. What can we do to slow down and find stillness amidst the chaos?  Taking time for ourselves will make it easier to step fully into a sense of clarity and pursue innovation with a clean slate. Not only would this advance us further in our pursuit of mental wellness, but it would improve aspects of how we project our intentions in physical states as well. This mentality will encourage actions of being present in our relationships, our environment, our bodies, and our minds much more attainable.

One of the benefits of being located in Denver, Colorado is all the opportunities to get outside and enjoy the fresh mountain air. Many of us who are drawn to this beautiful state adore hiking and being among the trees, sitting in a park and hearing the birds sing, and walking our beloved family pets. When time is made to connect with the natural world around us, the purity of mother nature is ever apparent. She is strong and beautiful, all while providing us clean air, resources, and serenity in abundance. By stepping outside of the hustle and bustle of the office and stresses of our own minds, we can embrace all that mother nature has to offer. We can ground our energy into her and cleanse ourselves of what is no longer serving us. Never hesitate to take a moment and recognize the beauty of the natural essence you’re surrounded by. Feel your energy connecting and being one with the immense and stable energy of Mother Earth. Think of all that you are carrying around as a ball of light and send it into the natural elements. Ask that what is no longer serving you to be transmuted and restored. After a few conscious breathes ask for mother nature to restore you to balance. Imagine your inhales bringing in a fresh life force of energy. To you, this could be a stream of white light, a gentle breeze, or a warm ray of sunshine.

If you’re unable to get outside, have no fear, you can still explore many purification practices indoors, and our healing sanctuary in the city is one of the places you can go into to find the practices, tools, and techniques to support you.

Take a moment to close your eyes, inhale deeply, and exhale fully. What do you notice? Did your shoulders drop and relax during your exhale? Did you catch a second of quietness on your inhale? Maybe, you observed a sensation in your body that had previously been unnoticed. Your breath is your most powerful tool in cleansing the body, mind, and spirit. It’s one of the most optimal ways to center ourselves. In many, if not all of our wellness workshops here at Peace of Mind, you will be invited to use the power of your breath. This is a tool we always have access to, each and every one of us, at any time, in any place. When we use this tool, we support our autonomic nervous system, allowing stress and tension to release on our exhale. With our inhale, we support many of our body systems by bringing in fresh oxygen into our blood. This not only helps with detoxifying our bodies, but rejuvenates us, simply by incorporating a conscious breath. Experience for yourself the immense power of your breath at our monthly breathwork intensive Cosmic Breathwork held on the last Sundays of each month.

Receiving regular bodywork is a rewarding and easy way to release the stresses of life. When our bodies are relaxed, our energy can move freely. Massage is known to increase circulation, improve sleep, and aid in healthy digestion. All of which help our physical bodies to self purify. Here at Peace of Mind we consider Massage Therapy to be a guided meditation in addition to a therapeutic touch modality. While we are working on you we are transmitting energy through our intentional touch. Often we will remind our clients to breathe to aid in deeper relaxation of the muscles and clearing of the mind.

Inside our conscious boutique you will find tools to aid your home practice and enhance your experience. The ancient practice of smudging is a gentle practice that enhances our beautiful sanctuary. We offer sage bundles and Palo Santo sticks for this purpose. It provides a simple way to cleanse not only your environment but your aura too! By burning these delightful aromatic plants, the gentle smoke wipes out any stagnation and negative energies that may be lingering. Paired with intention or a mantra of your choosing, this practice is sure to elevate all of the vibrations in your surroundings. You can also purify yourself and space by using crystals, which we adorn all corners of our sacred space in, and sell in our store for you to take home. We have a variety to choose from! One is certain to grab your attention. It may be just what you need to help enhance your specific intentions and needs. For cleansing and purification, one of our favorites is selenite. When we think of trauma or Post traumatic stress disorder, a lot of the time we imagine a person who has lived through a war, either as a combat veteran or a victim of brutality and repetitive abuse.  We often times don’t see ourselves as survivors of trauma, it takes many years to come to terms with our experience with trauma.  We tend to overlook ourselves and our experiences, believing that what we have lived through does not warrant a closer look.  Trauma can manifest through an experience with losing a loved one, it can be heavy guilt over not being able to change a situation or it can be witnessing or even hearing about something horrible that affects us deeply. 

  • An estimated 70 percent of adults in the United States have experienced a traumatic event at least once in their lives and up to 20 percent of these people go on to develop Post traumatic stress disorder. 
  • Women are about twice as likely as men to develop PTSD. 
  • Extreme trauma is a terrifying ordeal or event that a person has experienced, witnessed or learned about, especially one that is life-threatening or causes physical harm.

In the most basic sense, without over labeling or intensely analyzing trauma or PTSD, it is when one “suffers from memories”.  We as humans are constantly emerged in what is known as the thought stream.  It can be almost addicting to constantly listen and attend to the “voice in the head”.  Most of the time we do not even realize we are engaging with it because we have been doing so most of our lives.  Some of these thought patterns come from the subconscious mind, which is actually 5/6 of our brain!  Our conscious mind makes up only 1/6 of our entire brain, so you can imagine how much of our lives is operated from the deep oceans of the subconscious!

It is actually found that every time you have a memory, it is changed just a little bit from the original experience.  What we remember changes each time we recall the event, making memories more like a story than a file.  With each re-call we attach emotional details, so when the story is altered feelings are also reshaped. This means that, as you change, so do your memories (Psychology today).   

What this could mean is that we have more power in overcoming trauma than we think!  If the memory that a person relives and causes them stress is not actually “real”, and is altered slightly based on who they are moment to moment and year to year, there has to be an ability to change these memories for the betterment of the self!  At the core of recovery is self-awareness.  Trauma may cause people to live with unbearable physical sensations: the feeling of being heartbroken and the suffering of intolerable sensations in the pit of the stomach, as well as tightness or a heavy weight on the chest.  Yet trying to avoid or numb these sensations in our bodies causes us to be overwhelmed by them.  Having body awareness is key and puts us in touch with our inner worlds.  By simply noticing emotions and feelings we begin to shift our outlook and perception of them and the world around us.  (The body keeps the score).

The Pain-Body is another concept brought to the light in “A New Earth” by Eckhart Tolle.  This is the idea that most of us have a semiautonomous energy-form that lives within us.  It is like an entity made up of emotional baggage.  It feeds off of the negativity of situations and other people.  It is why we can fall into negative talk with ourselves and others and we can almost take on another persona when the pain-body is active.  The emotions from traumatic events can be stored here and be reignited at the slightest perceived threat.  There is said to be pain-bodies for genders, races and countries.  Becoming fully aware and conscious of the pain-body is the most effective way of disengaging and breaking from identification with it. 

There are many roads to healing and what works for one person is their own special and unique experience.  Massage therapy and its’ myriad of modalities can offer much in the way of personal healing. Some of the therapies that we offer at Peace of Mind Sacred Wellness that specifically works with trauma are CranioSacral Therapy and Myofascial Release Therapy.  These are two different, but closely related therapies that target the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual bodies. When working with trauma, it’s important to be aware of all of the layers – physical, emotional, mental, energetic – and how they effect one another. In the Yogic philosophy these layers are known as Koshas. 

CranioSacral therapy works with the client to access the deeper parts of ourselves to allow healing as the client needs it to happen, peeling off the layers much like an onion.  Sometimes this can happen in complete silence and other times dialoging and imagery become a part of the session.  The therapist’s job is to stay completely neutral and allow the client to come to their own resolutions and findings.  This therapy has been very   successful with people from different walks of life, with different issues such as PTSD, autism, concussions, migraines and TMJD to name just a few.

Myofascial Release therapy is another wonderful modality in accessing the deeper meaning and root underneath pain patterns and dysfunction.  Here is a brief description by the creator of Myofascial release, John Barnes on how this incredible therapy can help with trauma:

“It has been demonstrated consistently that when a myofascial release technique takes the tissue to a significant position, or when myofascial unwinding allows a body part to assume a significant position three dimensionally in space, the tissue not only changes and improves, but memories, associated emotional states and belief systems also rise to the conscious level. This awareness allows the individual to grasp the previously hidden information that may be creating or maintaining symptoms of behavior which deter improvement. With the information now at the conscious level, the individual is in a position to learn what holding or bracing patterns have been impeding progress. This release of the tissue, emotions and hidden information create an environment for change that is both conscious and effective”.  These modalities have been very effective in overcoming anxiety and pain patters that have their roots and origins in trauma. 

The beautiful truth is that trauma does not make you who you are, but is an experience that allows you to look deeper into your true nature. At such a pivotal point in our evolution as humans, now is the time to step into our full power and know that we are capable of being fully healed and that all that is missing is remembering the tools to access this potential we all carry.

Partner work is a aspect of the Sattva practice that is not always brought in but when it is, has a powerful, unifying effect. For as long as humans have been on the Earth, women have bled. Before the advent of electricity and the modernization of civilization, humans looked to the sky for the signals of the cycles of nature, namely, to the moon. The moon was our first calendar, and women were the first keepers of time as each month they bled in synchronization with the moon. This was a sacred time. Many ancient cultures revered the blood as the fountain of life, the holy grail, the primordial substance that we all came from. The Maori believed that human souls are made of menstrual blood, which when retained in the womb assumes human form and grows into a man. Native Americans of South America said all mankind was made of moon blood in the beginning. Aristotle even said human life is made of coagulum of menstrual blood. With our humanity so clearly rooted in the sanctity of women’s menstruation, it’s hard to believe that we are where we are today: in a society where this blood is taboo, dirty, or shameful and women who are menstruating are wild, crazy, angry, or bitchy. But a grassroots movement of women’s circles have been working to reclaim women’s cycles as natural, life giving, and sacred.

Every New Moon, Red Tents around the world gather together to celebrate menstruation, and its potent transformative power in the lives of all women on Earth. The Red Tent comes from the idea that women, before the rise of patriarchal society, gathered together in a “tent”, where they would bleed unto the Earth together. When there was no artificial light confusing circadian rhythms, the women bled in sync together with the moon at the darkest point in its cycle. The men and children respected that the women of the tribe or village needed this alone time in the tent, as they needed rest and nourishment while their bodies bled.

This was a time that women needed not just for physical nourishment, but also spiritual nourishment. Using rituals sacred to women, they honored the passing of their cycle. Something was always shed with the blood, and something was always reclaimed in preparation for ovulation. They told their stories: of love, heartbreak, sexuality, creativity, grief, birth, life, and death. Women gave birth in the red tent, with midwives and wise women assisting and supporting. Women danced, sang, created, and dropped into their feminine nature in the red tent, honoring their cycle as a time of celebration. It was a place where the mysteries of the female experience were handed down, mother, to daughter, to granddaughter. It was a place where the Goddess, the Divine Feminine principle, was given reverence and respect.

In the wake of our menstrual-phobic society, the red tents were lost. Women scarcely have spaces to even talk about their menstrual lives, besides in the doctor’s office. The magic of women’s cycles have been reduced to their childbearing capabilities, with no acknowledgement of the processes they undergo each month in silence and secret. Some women are even barred from being around their families or engaging in sexual activity during this time. But the modern Red Tent seeks to change all of this.

Each month, in the Red Tent, women gather to reclaim those rituals together. Each woman knows, deep in her womb, what the Red Tent is the moment she enters the space. The smell of fragrant herbs burning, the red pillows and fabric adorning the walls and floor, the images of the goddess on the altar, the succulent fruit and chocolate waiting to be eaten, and the dim light of candles lit all around bring her back to this ancient place within. The Red Tent is like the womb. In this space, women shed together that which is no longer serving them, that which holds them back, just as their uterus sheds the lining that would have nourished a new life. Women share their stories, and support other women in their own unique experience. We learn to look across the circle at the other women gathered with us not with jealousy, scorn, or rejection, but with love and acknowledgment that she too is a sister, a sacred part of the spiral of life. In the Red Tent, women reclaim that which they want to create or bring into their life, just as each month after menstruation ends their ovaries will release another egg, a potent new beginning of a potential life. Women remember their ancient ways in the Red Tent, that menstruation is a beautiful part of womanhood that will no longer be hidden, hated, or shamed. With this perspective, we witness miracles in the Red Tent. Women who struggle to get pregnant finally conceive after working with their monthly cycle and seeing their body in a new way. Women who have experienced cycles of unbearable pain see it all disappear once they learn to truly tune in to what their womb is telling them.

There is power in the cycle, and how it intertwines with everything a woman will experience in her life is what we seek to remember in the red tent. There is a prophecy, thought to have come from the Hopi Nation, that when all women are giving their blood back to the Earth, there will be peace on Earth again. In the Red Tent, we seek to fulfill this prophecy, reconnecting women to the sanctity of their raw, physical experience and giving gratitude to Earth for gifting us with the power to bring life into the world. One by one, women are remembering the old way of honoring themselves, their blood, and their lives, and one by one, bringing that Peace back to the land.

Let us reintroduce ourselves. Along with many this year, we are welcoming 2019 with open arms as we transition into something that has been brewing for quite some time now. Ever since we first opened our doors in 2009 our mission has been to be a resource for people through all walks of life. Reaching anyone who has felt the need to revive their ability to feel their best on a physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual level. While this mission remains true, we are breaking the boundaries to the means of how we get there. In the last year, Peace of Mind has been expanding beyond massage; offering monthly workshops such as women’s and men’s gatherings, Sattva Tantra Yogic workshops, cacao ceremonies, and more. We’ve had workshops themed around defeating depression, overcoming anxiety, transcending fear, and removing the masks we often wear when relating with the world. They have been powerful and transforming the energy in our space, and we’ve been moved to celebrate our 10th year in business by re-branding to reflect the sacred space in which we operate and the sacred nature of the work that we get to do with people here. 

The workshops we offer vary from gentle, reflective yoga nidra meditations and sound healing to powerful, transformative Sattva Yoga techniques that break the mold and ask us to evolve through physical movements, healing mantras, and breathwork. These Sattva techniques are rooted in the Vendantic and Trantric traditions of the Himalayas and our founder, Elena, has brought them to Denver to open all of us to trust and unconditional love that is in each and every one of us. More on Sattva Yoga in an upcoming blog soon! Our workshops are self-exploratory as well as being a space for community connection. The space only holds up to 15 people and promotes a intimate cozy environment for which to share, connect, and transform collectively. All of our workshops are hosted by Peace of Mind’s amazing staff and other like-minded local facilitators. The foundation of all of our workshops revolve around the concept of accessing your inner light and using that as a guide to dance through life in a way that is truly beneficial and healing for not only yourself, but for all of those that surround you. We do this by digging deep into what it means to be human and healing anything that is preventing you from setting yourself free. Each workshop has its unique way of exploring the different levels of the healing process and allowing you to express yourself, no matter where you are in your journey.

  

Sometimes one workshop isn’t enough. While it can stimulate growth and new levels of consciousness, it can often leave you hungry for more which is why we are integrating Workshop Series on Monday nights. Monday Night Workshop Series differ from Weekend Workshops in the sense that the Series will be once a week for a month. Each month there will be a different theme we are focusing on. The theme is based off what time of year it is, following the natural rhythms of nature and what we can do to strengthen our connection with the world around us. For example, January we are focusing on regaining clarity and momentum through meditation to start the year off as intentional as possible. Both of our Weekend Workshops and Monday Night Workshop Series will promote the activation of our intuition to help guide us, which we believe is crucial for the healing process. Of course, we still value the aspect of working with healers one on one. Massage Therapy and its wide range of modalities is still our #1 service, but we are happy to announce that we’re adding some additional offerings.

We are welcoming back the intuitive guidance of Astrologer, Adrianne Tamar Arachne. We have offered Astrology and Tarot readings before and are so excited to welcome it back on our schedule on Thursday nights from 4-8pm. Our resident astrologer, Adrianne is a highly knowledgable and the way she communicates this vast knowledge is accessible, uplifting, and stimulating. Taking time to reflect on what the cosmos have to say and how we can incorporate that into our lives can promote radical change on a very personal level.

To deepen into the yogic path we are now offering private and semi private yoga sessions. Our founder, Elena is providing private Sattvaga sessions on Friday nights from 4-8pm. She will be personalizing the Sattva teachings in a way that is purely reflective of you and will give you tools to use when stagnation occurs in day to day life. All of which perfectly complements the group work that is being held during our monthly workshops. Consistent practices through our workshops and private sessions will truly bring change to your life like you’ve never experienced before. Change is nothing to be feared but rather explored and conquered by mastering ourselves one layer at a time. Our mission is to be a resource for people and now more than ever we can heal, grow, and flourish in a way we never have before. In addition to the Sattva teachings, we have another talented Yoga Teacher, Dana on our schedule who is offering Yoga nidra, Yin, and Sound healing sessions which can be booked on her schedule Sunday-Wednesday. We can accommodate up to 6 people in a private session, so bring a friend and split the cost, or come alone for a personalized session just for you.

The Red Tent is a safe space where Womben come to share the stories of their wombs — stories of our blood, birth, sexuality, love, heartbreak, sickness, health, celebration, grief, shadows, healing and recovery as we journey through this life in the female vessel. Secrets of the Sri Yantra: A Sattva Tantra Yoga Workshop

The holidays are a really beautiful time of year. The lights. The music. The time with family and friends. The taste of those amazing rolls your grandmother makes.
