If you've been following my blog for awhile, then you would know that empties are my favourite kind of post. I love reading or watching other's empties posts, and writing my own. So without going on much longer, let's see what I used up for the month of May!
I actually have a lot of empties this month, I'm quite surprised with myself. Let's get a closer look at everything.
These were my only "makeup" items.
Urban Decay - Troublemaker Mascara I don't know if because this is extra small, but I found it so hard to apply.. and the brush was so hard that it actually hurt to use it on my lashes. Ended up tossing it because it was so uncomfortable to use. Based on that alone, I wouldn't purchase a full size.
Tarte - Tarteist Mascara I liked this when it was "fresh"... I liked the brush and I liked how my lashes looked. It gave them some extra length and little volume. However, once it started to dry out, it wasn't as nice. I wouldn't repurchase just because I have other mascaras that I like more. And a ton more to go through.
Garnier - Skin Active - Micellar Water This took me ages to use up, but I liked it. It was gentle. I used it more as a toner though, or to remove left over makeup that sometimes was stubborn. I would repurchase it but I have a full size Nivea bottle to get through, and then I actually picked up a two pack of Bioderma when it was on sale after Christmas. I did like it thought!
Glamglow - Youthmud Tinglexfoliant Treatment I like this mask. It goes on like clay, and when you rinse it off, you use circular motions so it also exfoliates the skin. It has pieces of tea leaves in it as well. But Glamglow is so popular now, most of my readers probably know this. I like it, but I don't think I could ever bring myself to buy a full size.
Drunk Elephant - La La Retro Whipped Cream I love the thick texture of this face cream, but that's about where my love ends. It felt like it never absorbed into my skin and just sat on top as a final layer. If I tried to wear it under make up, it would just ball up. I wouldn't repurchase a full size.
Youth To The People - Kale + Spinach Green Tea Hyaluronic Acid This was a lightweight moisturizer that was supposed to be good for the skin. I got maybe two uses out of this sample and then it dried out, so I don't have much of an opinion on it. Except I wouldn't repurchase it because it would probably dry out before I finished it.
Fresh - Rose Face Mask This is a gel face mask, with tiny rose pieces in it. I use it when my skin feels extra dry because I find it helps rebalance my skin. I actually really liked it and would consider purchasing the full size.
Shiseido - BioPerformance Advanced Super Revitalizer N I loved this as a night cream. It was super creamy. Most people would probably dislike how "greasy" it makes them look, but my skin LOVED this. However, this is an old sample and Shiseido has discontinued this line. My all time favourite moisturizer actually used to be the Shiseido Benefiance Revitalizing Creme N, but also discontinued. I'm bitter.
Estee Lauder - Advanced Night Repair This makes my skin feel hydrated, but I didn't notice a difference in my skin. I have a couple more samples of these to get through, but I wouldn't repurchase the full size.
Amore Pacific - The Essential Creme Fluid Another item I didn't notice made any difference in my skin. Pass.
Monat - Replenish Masque Just an expensive conditioner that did nothing special for my hair. Seriously. I noticed my hair would break every time I used this as well. No thanks.
Christophe Robin - Cleansing Purifying Scrub with Sea Salt This is a scalp scrub and I really liked it. I found it to be a little difficult to get into my scalp just because my hair is so thick and the pieces of sea salt were large, but it definitely cleans the scalp. I don't think I would repurchase just because I preferred the next scrub below.
Briogeo - Scalp Revival Micro Exfoliating Shampoo This stuff is minty, the exfoliating pieces are tiny and the texture is more on the watery side, so it makes it much more easier to get to my scalp. My hair also felt clean, and the minty-ness made my scalp feel fresh. I really liked this!
Boo Bamboo - Hair Strengthening Shampoo and Strengthen and Shine Conditioner I liked these sample sizes, of course I could only really get one try out of these, but they didn't leave my hair looking greasy after a day or two, and it didn't irritate my scalp at all like some other brands. So, thumbs up in my book!
Bath and Body Works - Candle in Campfire Donut This didn't smell like campfire, or donut to me. It was such a light scent and had little throw. I wouldn't repurchase.
Scentsy Washer Whiffs in Zen Garden This is a light floraly scent. Washer whiffs are like those downy unstoppables. I like them, but I prefer other scents. I've already repurchased in others.
Scentsy Wax Bars in Vanillamint and Red Candy Apple Vanillamint was slightly vanilla'd and minty, but it also had a musky, masculine undertone. Not my favourite. Red Candy Apple had a slight apple scent, but I wasn't reminded of candy apples, which I was really hoping for. I wouldn't repurchase either of these scents.
Charmed Aroma - Bath Bomb in Cotton Candy This did not smell like cotton candy at all, but it felt nice on the skin, not too oily. And it didn't stain the tub, which is awesome. The earrings that came inside were also very pretty.
Bath and Body Works - Foaming Hand Soap in Ghoul Friend This had a deep fruity, plum, scent. If that makes sense. I liked it and I would repurchase it again. I have a bunch more to get through though!
So for the month of May I managed to use up 21 products, which isn't as much as I would like but it definitely is a good amount! I hope I can make a larger dent in some items in June!
If you've been following my blog for awhile, then you would know that empties are my favourite kind of post. I love reading or watching other's empties posts, and writing my own. So without going on much longer, let's see what I used up for the month of April!
I definitely didn't use up a lot this month, so this shouldn't take long to get through.
Benefit - Gimme Brow in 03 Medium This is a sample size, or deluxe sample size of the gimme brow. I like brow gels more than pencils because I find them easier to use, and I'm not really big on my eyebrows. This gives good enough light coverage, and keeps my brows in place all day. I enjoyed it, but I wouldn't repurchase because of the price. I like the Essence version.
Ciate London - Fierce Flicks Liquid Eye Liner I used this twice and it was just awful. The tip was rough and the formula must not have dried because it gave me such bad raccoon eyes. Two times was enough to decide I really didn't like this.
Stila - Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner I liked this, surprisingly. It's a liquid eye liner, but it has a felt tip, which I'm not the biggest fan of. I prefer brush tips, but this wasn't as rough as I thought it would be. I got about two months out of this sample size before it dried out. I did find it dragged a bit on my lids though. I liked it, but I'm not sure I would repurchase.
BeautyBlender - MicroMini These were nice for under the eyes. But I figured it's dirty and I really don't reach for it much. It's kind of old now so it was time to toss. I wouldn't repurchase just because I stopped reaching for it, and kind of forgot I even had it.
MAC - Prep and Prime Fix + in Rose I LOVE this setting spray. Well, fixing spray. It doesn't really set your makeup, but it makes it look flawless. Takes any dry looking spots or cakeiness away. Makes your skin feel refreshed and glowy. I really like it. This is in the rose scent. The sprayer on these are fantastic too. I have another small bottle like this (in coconut) and then will be moving on to my backup full size. I'll repurchase when the full size is almost empty.
GlamGlow - Waterburst Hydrated Glow Moisturizer This smelled awesome. Like orange creamsicle. It's very lightweight and does feel nice on the skin, but it's not nearly hydrating enough for my dry skin. I'd use it to layer in between products, but anything beyond that, it wouldn't be enough for me. I'd pass in the future.
Clinique - Moisture Surge Intense Skin Fortifying Hydrator This was like a creamy gel moisturizer. It had a different texture than just straight up gel, but definitely wasn't a cream. It also felt nice on the skin but again, not enough for my dry skin.
Tresemme - Instant Recovery Mask This smelled amazing. Like candy. Sweet, like Swedish berries. Anyway, it felt nice on my hair. It wasn't too thick and didn't leave it greasy either. I got this from a friend and would consider purchasing it again as a drug store option.
Lush - Twilight Shower Gel This was lavender scented. Not my fave. But it's your typical lush body wash. Lathers well and a little goes a long way. I've already repurchased in other scents.
Bath and Body Works - Foaming Hand Soap in Purrfect Pumpkin and Coconut Mint Drop This is my favourite hand soap. Purrfect Pumpkin was a sweet cinnamon scent, and coconut mint drop was fairly light when it came to scent. Both were nice. Not sure I'd pick those scents again in the future - they weren't bad, just not my favourite! I've already repurchased other scents.
Bath and Body Works - Candle in Hot Cocoa and Cream I love bath and body works candles. I picked this up during a sale. It smells just like hot chocolate. It was nice for that type of scent. I prefer fruity scents though. I have many backup candles in different scents lol.
JewelScent - Wax Bar in Honolulu Berries The quality of this wax bar just was not good. I purchased some when they were on sale for pretty cheap but I think I'm spoiled from my usual Scentsy bars. This one was hard in the package and very crumbly. The scent throw wasn't good and it was so hard to remove from my warmer unless I melted it first. I have some other bars of this brand to finish up, but I won't repurchase.
Scentsy - Wax Bars in Oats & Honey, Love & Happiness, Gingerbread Donut Scentsy wax bars are my favourite. I'm also a consultant, but that's besides the point. These were all just okay scents to me. Oats & Honey - A buttery mix of toastedoats and tupelo honey, oven-crisped with vanilla maple. Heavy on the butter and maple. Both not a big fan of, especially the maple. Love & Happiness - Glazed Chestnut, Vanilla and Sugarcane define temptation. This was kind of floral in a way, it kind of reminded me of shampoo. Gingerbread Donut - golden gingerbread, spiced donut and vanilla. This one disappointed me the most. It was heavily maple scented, although it doesn't list it. It was nothing like gingerbread like I was expecting.
I only managed to use up 16 products this month. I hope the next few months are better!
Topbox is probably the most affordable subscription service that I have ever subscribed to. It's only $12 a month, which means in Ontario it only comes to $13.56 after taxes. Super affordable. Especially for those who aren't looking to spend too much, while getting to try new brands. They usually only send sample sized products, and a lot of skincare. There generally isn't a theme of the month either, but it's always a great surprise.
Each month we are able to pick a prive box, or a regular box. Usually I will post the prive choices we were given, but I've decided to stop taking screenshots of our options. A lot of them were getting repeated through the months. I decided to choose a regular box for December, and this is what I received.
As you can see, this month we received something from every "beauty" category - hair, nails, skincare, and makeup!
Wella Professionals - EIMI Dry Shampoo Shake me, spray me, style me. Apply evenly on dry hair, leave in and brush through. Full size is 120g and is sold for $19.99 online at Chatters.ca This deluxe sample is 39.9g which makes it worth about $6.66
Dry shampoo is always welcomed. These travel sizes are perfect for taking on vacations or weekends away. I haven't had a chance to try this yet, but I'm hoping it's good!
Nena - Clay Mask Shake well before using. After cleansing, apply clay evenly over the entire face, avoiding eyes and mouth. Leave until dried. Wash off completely with cold or warm water. Full size is 120g and is $35 available at nenaskincare.com. This sample size is 30g, making this worth about $8.75.
Clay masks are a nice way to pamper yourself. I also haven't tried this out yet, but will definitely do a separate review on this!
Morgan Taylor - Professional Nail Lacquer in Rebel With A Cause It's inside what counts. Inspired by luminous pearls, raw gems, semi-precious stones, glimmering silvers and radiant gold all drawn from the earth. All pigments are saturated, pure and finely milled for luminous metallics, never seen before shimmers, decadent cremes, stunning sheers, and more glistening glitters. This is a full size bottle, and retails for $15.83.
The colour I received was Rebel With A Cause, and it's so pretty! It's a dark purple with a purple shimmer. But the shimmer kind of shifts to a lighter purple, blue, and red. So hard to describe. But it's so pretty! My only complaint is that it doesn't stay very long on the nails without chipping. Maybe that's an issue that can be fixed with a better topcoat.
MAC Cosmetics - In Extreme Dimension Lash Mascara A mascara with a large molded brush that creates volume and curl. Full size is 13mL and sells for $29.37
I actually just finished a tube of this in my January empties post. You can see it here. I wasn't overly impressed, it was just an average mascara. Good to have on hand for travelling for sure.
Overall, this was just an okay bag. Nothing really wowed me, but all practical items that will get used. The value is definitely there though, considering it's only $12 a month! *This post contains a referral link*
Boxycharm is a subscription box service, that sends full size and deluxe sample size items to you each month. I've noticed majority of the time, you will get full sized products, and you receive 5 each month. It is $21 USD a month, plus shipping. There are discounts if you sign up for 3 months, 6 months, or 12 months. I originally signed up for 3 months, and it renewed for another 3 months automatically. Everyone generally gets the same box each month, with a few variations such as lipstick colours. Or a lipstick vs lip gloss. That being said, let's take a look at what I received for my December Boxycharm!
The theme of the month is Glitz & Glam. Perfect for this time of year!
Let's open these up to get a better look at everything...
Vintage Cosmetics - Illuminating Face Highlighter in Rose Gold (Retail Price: $32) Add a beautiful wash of colour and subtle, sexy shimmer with the Illuminating Face Highlighter. Created to be worn alone or as a beautiful highlight over pretty blush - the reflective pearls add radiance on contact, adding a delicate glow and diamond-like finish to the skin.
I haven't swatched this because I'm not sure if I want to keep it for myself or include it in a giveaway. It is pretty though!
Beaute Basics - Bronze Essentials (Retail Price: $39.95) Use individually or mix together for your ultimate Bronze and Glow.
I don't use bronzer, so this will definitely be added to a giveaway!
Real Her - Blush Kit (Retail Price: $32) Treat your cheeks to an instant natural glow with 3 shimmery tones.
This is really pretty, and I can see myself using the two more pink shades. Although the more brown shade isn't bad either. The pink on the left has glitter. Look below for swatches.
Tarte - Tarteist Lash Paint Mascara (Retail Price: $23) A jet-black, vegan mascara that has a molded brush that grabs and coats even the tiniest lashes for 2700% more volume.
I've only tried a sample of this mascara, and I wasn't a huge fan. But I think that was more due to the fact that it was a sample, and the packaging was stupid. I'll definitely give this a shot. A full review will come in the future!
Makeup Geek - Showstopper Creme Stain in Quickstep (Retail Price: $12) Makeup Geek Showstopper Creme Stain will ensure you're the center of attention! Use the precision applicator for a light feel on the lips throughout the day.
I was very surprised with this lip creme. I will say it's not really a stain, it's more of a liquid lipstick. I thought it was going to look way too brown on me, but it applies so lightly, so you have better control of how much is going on your lips. I actually like it, which is a surprise for me, cause this really is not a shade I would ever buy, or reach for.
Overall, I liked how this was a good mixture of products. And I can see how it could be glammed up. However, I'm not overly thrilled with my Boxycharm subscription lately. Don't get me wrong, the value is definitely there every month (this month was $138.95) but I'm starting to get so over run with products, and I usually don't love everything inside. Lately I find I'm putting more products aside to give away or gift, and I feel like I could use that money to put towards something I would actually like from elsewhere. My 3 month subscription just renewed recently, so I think I will make a final decision closer to the end of my 3 months. Maybe I will take a break. We'll see!
I usually post these monthly, but I felt at the end of February that I really hadn't used up enough products to make a post about them. So here we are in March, and these are my empties that I have accumulated through February up until now!
So because I saved up my empties for so long, this post may be a little long. Just a heads up for all the readers!
Garnier - Fructis - Colour Vibrancy Treatment This is just a hair mask. It smelled nice and fruity but did I find it did anything amazing for my hair? No. Not any better than a typical conditioner. I wouldn't repurchase. (I received this free from Glamsense in exchange for my honest review)
Briogeo - Rosarco Milk Leave In Conditioning Spray I really liked this spray. It left my hair feeling soft, and definitely less tangled after showering. I'm seriously considering repurchasing a full size of this during the next VIB Sale.
Tresemme - Fresh Start Dry Shampoo I hate to admit how old this dry shampoo actually is, so I won't. I will just say it's old and didn't perform in the way that it should. I wouldn't repurchase.
Light Blue Shade - White, Blonde, Silver Hair - Hydrating Shampoo This was the first blue/shampoo I purchased when I started going blonde and this stuff sucks. It's pretty cheap at Walmart but it does absolutely nothing when it comes to taking the brass or toning my hair. Pass. Hard pass. Won't purchase again.
Herbal Essences - Curl Scrunching Gel I also won't admit how old this is either. But it was just okay. Not as strong of a hold as I would like for a gel. I don't even know if they sold this anymore, but if they do, I won't be repurchasing.
Monat - Renew Shampoo I know I've used this in the past, and I said I wouldn't repurchase, and I ended up buying it again. But this just solidifies my decision. I won't be buying it again. It's very expensive and does nothing that the consultants claim. I also noticed my hair started to fall out so much while using this, that I needed to stop using it and start taking vitamins so my hair would grow back in. And so much breakage.
Givenchy - Noir Interdit Mascara I did a review on this mascara here. There was a little bit of a learning curve with this mascara because of the wand that bent, but it was a very natural mascara. I did like it, but I didn't like the scent, it was heavily scented with a rose scent. I wouldn't repurchase just because it's expensive and just average.
MAC - Prep + Prime - Fix + in Lavender Scent These mini bottles of Fix + were released in 3 scents, so I had to grab them. It came with lavender, rose, and coconut. I used this one up first. I love fix plus, and this scent was just okay. It didn't last long, which was good because I wasn't a big fan of it. Love the formula, not the scent. Have already repurchased a full size non-scented bottle.
Burts Bees - Lip Balm This has a slight mint scent, but I love the formula with this chap stick. If I ever have dry, cracked lips, this immediately soothes them. I absolutely love Burt's Bees, and will continue to purchase this lip balm in the future.
Ducco - Punk Volumizer Mascara Meh. Got this in a Topbox I believe. Wasn't a fan. Decided to toss it after a couple of uses.
Quo - Holy Grail Mascara Same as the mascara above. Wasn't a fan, and it got clumpy fast. Tossed it.
Shiseido - Benefiance WrinkleResist24 - Intensive Eye Contour Cream I liked this. It was nice and thick and felt like it was doing something. I have a few other eye creams to get through. I did like it though, I'm not sure I would repurchase.
Laneige - Multi Cleanser This was a foam cleanser, with a little bit of abrasive bits. It really dried out my skin and I didn't find that it did anything amazing. So I would pass in the future. This may be better for someone with more oily skin.
Fresh - Lotus Youth Preserve Face Cream I wanted to love this. It smelled slightly of cucumber, and had a nice light texture but it just didn't do anything for my skin. It wasn't hydrating enough and I found when I layered it with any other products, it would just ball up. No matter how long I let the previous skincare soak in. Pass in the future.
Caudalie - Vinoperfect Radiance Serum This was a weird texture. Somewhere between a serum or really light watery lotion. I didn't find that it did anything for my skin either.
Clinique - Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm I love this cleansing balm. It comes in a huge package and last's just forever. A little goes a long way. I'll be repurchasing during the next VIB sale for a back up. Plus it doesn't melt and get all messy like some others do. I really love this cleansing balm!
Dr Jart + - Water Fuse Gel Moisturizer I didn't find this hydrating enough for me, but I enjoyed layering it between my serum and my heavier creams at night. I wouldn't repurchase.
NeoStrata - Glycolic Renewal Smoothing Cream (5% Glycolic Acid) I wanted to love this, I really did. It's a cream instead of a serum texture. It's very gentle on the skin so it did not make my face turn red or cause any adverse effects, but I didn't find enough of a difference in my skin. It still looked dehydrated when I applied makeup. So I wouldn't repurchase this in the future. I prefer to use Drunk Elephant Framboos as my chemical exfoliant.
Elizabeth Arden - New Formula Advanced Ceramide Capsules Daily Youth Restoring Serum I got this in a topbox and had never tried a serum in capsules before, so I was intrigued. But this stuff is messy. It gets everywhere and it's very liquidy. It was more of the texture of an oil serum. I wasn't a big fan and can't see myself using serum capsules ever again.
Origins - High-Potency Night-A-Mins - Renewal Cream I saw Kathleen Lights raving about this cream in one of her videos. It ALMOST convinced me to purchase a full size without even trying it. But, timing had it so there were samples at Sephora so I ended up getting a sample instead. And I'm glad I got one first. This smells great, just like orange creamsicle, and it is nice and thick, without being greasy. But that's where my love starts. This also balls up like no tomorrow, which made me change my mind. The hunt for the perfect cream continues.
The Green Beaver Co - Natural Deodorant in Lavender I received this in a blogger box awhile ago and have been using it in between other deodorants. I actually really enjoyed this deodorant, and what makes it even better is that it's a Canadian brand. It didn't leave marks on my clothes, it wasn't sticky, and I didn't stink after only a few hours. It made my monthly favourites in August. I'll definitely be looking into other scents, just because Lavender isn't my favourite. Bath and Body Works - Foaming Hand Soap in Afternoon Apple Picking, and Island Papaya These a both great scents. Afternoon Apple Picking is perfect for fall, with a crisp apple scent. Island Papaya is more perfect for summer, as it's very tropical and fruity. I'd consider repurchasing both of these scents in the future.
Bath and Body Works/White Barn Candle in Grapefruit Gin Fizz I wanted to love this scent, because I love grapefruit anything, but this just didn't do it for me. The grapefruit scent was very light, and it did have that fizzy scent. This was a let down. I love the candles, but I didn't love this scent.
Scentsy - Wax Bars in Various Scents Spiced Pear - Perfect for fall. A great combination of fall spice, and fruity light pear. Apple & Pear - this wasn't as fruity as I was hoping. It just smelled lightly floral too. I wouldn't repurchase. Lemon Sorbet - a great citrus scent. I'd consider repurchasing in the summer. Another great scent to mix in with others as well. My fave combo was lemon sorbet and lime sublime. Toffee Butter Crunch - ugh. I was not a fan of this. I seem to dislike caramel/toffee scents as they seem to pull with a little bit of a maple undertone. At least to me. And I don't like it. I'll have to avoid these types of scents in the future. Gingersnap - Another let down. I thought this was going to smell like a gingerbread cookie. Instead it just smelled of stale, something. It wasn't sweet, it wasn't gingery. It was just not nice. Summer Sippin - Ah, another great fruity scent. It was light with a bit of a raspberry lemon. I liked it!
That being said, let's take a look at what I received for my November Boxycharm!
The theme of the month is Sweater Weather.. which is exactly the season we're in now!
I feel like we got a good selection of products this month. Let's take a closer look!
Um, first off. HOW CUTE IS THE WINKYLUX PALETTE? I love cats, and I absolutely love that this is called the kitten palette, and that there are cats all over the front! But let's look inside!
Luxie Beauty - Quad Eye Travel Set (Retail Price - $32) Take your eye game on the go with this quad travel set created with hand-crafted synthetic brushes.
I don't have any travel brushes, but these will be nice to have on hand. Luxie brushes are great.
Winkylux - Kitten Palette (Retail Price - $25) These ultra-soft shadows glide on like a dream. The universally flattering collection of shades makes this palette as lovable as a kitten. It features highly-pigmented shadows in four finishes: holographic, matte, satin, and glitter.
I'm a little torn on this palette. I haven't worn it on my eyes yet, but the swatches aren't the greatest. I'll include a photo at the end, and you'll be able to see for yourself. But the mattes are very patchy. The holographic and glitter shades are just beautiful though!
CoverFX - Illuminating Setting Spray (Retail Price - $31) A quick-drying setting spray that sets makeup for all day wear and imparts instant, all-over illumination. It's alcohol free, so it's not drying to the skin. Perfect for all skin tones and types.
I was really looking forward to this, but it's SO sparkle-y. I'm hoping it doesn't look like it has as much sparkle once its on the face, but I will have to try it out and give a better review of it.
Laqa & Co. - Cloud Lips (Retail Price - $17) An airy matte lipstick that provides full coverage, but feels light as a cloud. This highly pigmented lipstick has a matte finish for long-lasting fluffy, pouty lips that stay put.
This looks dark brown when you look at it, but it wears more like a burgundy shade. I also have a swatch below for this. It's dark on the lips, but it's also super patchy. It almost looks as if you were drinking red wine and it stained your mouth. That's the most perfect example I can give. I'm not a big fan of this.
KNC Beauty - Collagen Lip Masks (Retail Price - $15) Innovative jelly mask for your lips that hydrate, moisturize, and plump your pout with natural ingredients.
I've tried one of these in the past and they're interesting. This was huge on my lips and kept sliding off. I didn't notice a difference in hydration or plumping.
As you can see, the matte shadow shades are very very patchy. The holographic and glitter shadows are so beautiful and have great pay off. The lipstick swatch at the bottom is a pretty shade for Fall and Winter, but you can see that it's also patchy.
Overall, the retail value of this box is $120, which is a great value. However, I'm kind of disappointed in a few of the items. The matte shadows are very patchy, the illuminating spray is just full of sparkles, the lip product is also patchy, and the lip masks are huge. I'm sure I will get use of them all, but this was a little bit of a miss for me. While I really enjoy getting subscription boxes in the mail, I think I may take a break in the New Year. My collection is starting to get way out of hand. Of course - this will all depend on sneak peeks that we are given!
What do you think of this month's Boxycharm? *This post contains referral links - all opinions are my own*
Another month has come and gone, and it's already the end of January. Well, February now. Did anyone else feel like January went by really slowly!? It felt like it took forever to end! Anyway, I'm glad we're getting closer to spring, I can't wait for winter to finally be over. Here's a look at my empties for the month of January!
I don't think I used nearly as much up as I would have liked. I feel so overwhelmed with all the products I have, I'm really trying! It's so difficult to use up makeup!
Mac - Prep and Prime - Fix + Spray I finally bought this a few months ago, and it has been my go to makeup primer spray. I'm still using some others to finish them off, but this is definitely my favourite now. I've already repurchased mini size versions in different scents, and another full size regular bottle. Love it!
Essence - Make Me Brow in 02 Browny Brows At first I wasn't sure if I liked this stuff, but over time I did like it. It gives my brows just enough colour and keeps them in place all day. Very similar to gimme brow from Benefit. I already have a back up!
Younique - Moodstruck Precision Brow Gel in Brown Ugh. This ended up being a waste. I bought this probably a year ago, and decided to use the Make Me Brow first before I went back to this. And it dried up. Like completely dry. Can't even scrape it out. So I have to toss it. Really makes me realize I need to stop buying backups and just leaving them to dry out. I won't repurchase just because Essence is a lot more affordable, and easier to get.
Mac - Mascara in Extreme Dimension 3D Black Lash This was just okay. My mom brought it for me when she visited in the summer. I won't say it was bad, because it wasn't. It was just average. I won't be purchasing this.
Urban Decay - Naked Skin Colour Correcting Fluid in Peach I really liked this! I liked it so much that I purchased a full size tube. It helps conceal my ugly under eye circles, and blends out great. I don't find it drying like I did with the regular concealer.
Jesse's Girl - Liquid Eyeliner in Black (Brush Tip) I love this eyeliner! It's dark black, goes on smoothly, and I find the brush doesn't fray either. Is it as good as Kat Von D Trooper? No, but it's close. And for the price difference, I'll take it! My mom brought this for me in July and I've been using it almost every day since. Pretty awesome! I already have a backup!
Essence - The Gel Top Coat I love Essence's Gel nail polish line. They last over a week for me, with very minimal chips. They're super affordable and come in a ton of different colours. This ended up getting really gloopy though and too thick where I couldn't apply it anymore. So I tossed it and picked up a new bottle. I really love this!
Real Techniques - Miracle Complexion Sponge I'm still on the fence with this sponge. I love how soft it is, and how it is angled on one side to make it easier to get into the difficult parts on your face. But I find my makeup never looked as nice as if I used the beauty blender. I have another because I purchased a 2 pack, but I'm not sure I'd purchase these again. I'll have to play around with it some more.
Belif - The True Cream - Moisturizing Bomb This is the cream version of the very popular aqua bomb. I love this moisturizer! It really doesn't have any other benefits besides moisturizing, but that's all I'm looking for. It isn't greasy or heavy, and wears so well under makeup. I've already repurchased another full size jar!
Dr. Jart - Ceramidin - Oil Balm This is a balm type of skin product that turns to oil with the heat of your hands. I've had this for awhile but I've never really figured out the best time to use it. It's obviously oily and greasy, so I would use it sometimes as the last step in my night routine when my skin needed something extra. But I never found that it did anything. I wouldn't repurchase this.
Roger and Gallet - Bois D'Orange Shower Gel This was just okay. It did lather well, and had a more citrus scent than the other one I have tried. But it wasn't amazing. It did the job, but I have other favourite shower gels that I prefer.
Cake - The 'Do Gooder Dry Shampoo This stuff smelled great, but that's about where it ends. It didn't do the greatest job at making my hair look less greasy, and I only got 2 uses out of this sample. I don't think I'd repurchase a full size bottle.
Secret - Gel Deodorant This was my go-to for the past couple of months. I have one more of a backup but in a different scent. I find it's not doing as great as a job as before so I have switched to another brand in the mean time, but I do have a back up. Weleda - Evening Primrose Revitalizing Body Wash I prefer more of a gel texture for my body washes, and this is a cream. It wasn't my most favourite scent either (very floral - I prefer fruity or tropical scents) but it was good for the winter when my skin was feeling extra dry. I couldn't see myself repurchasing this, but it was nice to have during the colder months.
Bath and Body Work - Foaming Hand Soap in Snowkissed Citrus I like the scent of this one, and I love the foaming hand soaps. These are pretty much in every empties post. I have a ton more in my stash, so you'll be seeing more!
Scentsy Wax Bar in Blackberry Meringue, Sno-leil, Ambrosia and Lime Sublime These were all good scents. Blackberry Meringue was sweet, Sno-leil has a light floral scent, lime sublime was most definitely lime-y, I liked to mix this with other scents, and Ambrosia was awesome. It was like a bunch of fruits all mixed together - like a fruit salad. I've already repurchased ambrosia. (Scentsy bars are 10% off for the month of February - take a look! www.deidrec.scentsy.ca)
This month I only used up 19 products. Which was better than December. I'm hoping to use up more for February!
I didn't know that Almay was coming out with a new mascara until I was recently picked for an Influenster Campaign, that featured Almay's new One Coat Mega Volume Mascara. I'm always looking for volumizing mascaras, so I was happy to see that I would be able to try this out!
As you can see from the packaging, Almay is introducing this mascara with a new megaphone brush.
This unique formula includes film formers and triple wax complex for buildable lash volume.
The innovative megaphone brush is designed to maximize formula pickup and delivery to lashes for mega volume. It's also ophthalmologist tested, suitable for sensitive eyes, and also suitable for contact lens wearers - which is perfect for me, because I wear my contact lens every day for work, and if I have any plans on the weekend!
Look at all that extra volume! As you can see, on the left I'm only wearing eye liner, and on the right, I've used the Almay - One Coat Mega Volume Mascara.
I have really been enjoying this mascara. I thought the wand was going to be a gimmick and tricky to use, and while the first time using it, is a little odd, you can quickly adapt and fan out those lashes. I did find the formula was a little more wet than I like for my mascara, so there were some days where my lashes would clump together. I love the volume it provides when my lashes don't clump though. If this were a little more of a drier formula, it would be perfect. It does not flake, or give me raccoon eyes, and it's so easy to remove at the end of the day.

And now, what I got for September.
I decided to go with a regular topbox. There was nothing in the Prive's that were really jumping out to me.
AvryBeauty - Chamomile Gloves Waterless manicure gloves pre-filled with soothing shea butter which is naturally rich in vitamins A, E, and F. 1 pair of gloves retail price is $1.38, which makes these two worth $2.76
IBY Beauty - Bubbly Highlighter Wear this luminous peachy highlighter alone or layered together with your favourite blush for a sexy and healthy glow. 1.8g is full size and the retail price is $14.98 (According to Topbox - more on that below)
Glamglow - Youthmud Tinglexfoliant Treatment Youthmud provides gentle resurfacing exfoliation and helps to leave skin smoother, brighter, and softer resulting in immediate camera-ready glowing skin. Full size is 50g and retails for $69. Making this 15g sample worth $20.70
Caudalie - Vinoperfect Radiance Serum Complexion Enhancing Use morning and evening, on the face, neck and decollete, before applying your regular cream. Tip: can also be used before sunscreen application for luminous and even looking skin. Full size is 30mL and retails for $89. This 10mL sample is worth $29.66.
Overall, this Topbox is strong on the skincare side. Which is always fine by me. This month has a great value for me, considering it's less than $14 a month. I'm in need of a new serum, so the caudalie is welcomed. And I enjoy the Glamglow tinglexfoliate mask. I will be passing on the highlighter just because it looks too dark for me, and I will be passing one pair of the gloves to a friend.
I will say Topbox claims the highlighter is $14.98, but when you go onto IBY's website, they have the value at only $5, for the exact same size.
Another month has come and gone, and it's already the end of December. The end of 2017! This year feels like it went by so quickly. And we're already entering 2018. I'm hoping this year I can blog more, because when I started my new job I began to slack off a little, and I hate that I feel like I'm neglecting this! Anyway, let's round up the trash for one last empties, of 2017!
I was really hoping to use up 30 products this month, so let's see how many I actually got through.
Josie Maran - Argan Oil (Light) This is just a facial oil. It's pretty much the same as the original Argan Oil from Josie Maran. Just a little lighter. I found it was nice to add into my moisturizer, but I didn't find it as hydrating as I would like. I wouldn't repurchase this.
Laneige - Water Sleeping Mask These are always great to have on hand, and my skin feels instantly refreshed and hydrated when I use this. I believe I may have a back up already, just a sample size. If not, I have a couple of other similar sleep masks I'd like to get through but I would consider repurchasing.
Simple - Cleansing Facial Wipes These are nice. They remove my makeup, they don't strip my skin or make my eyes burn. I have other packets to get through but I'd consider purchasing these in the future.
Clinique - Moisture Surge - Extended Thirst Relief I really liked this for the summer because it sits so well under makeup, but for the winter, this is definitely not enough for my dry skin. I haven't repurchased yet but would reconsider for summer.
Garnier - Skin Active - Moisture Bomb (Dry Skin Gel Cream) I always feel like gel creams are never hydrating enough for my skin, especially alone. I wasn't a fan of the scent of this one, and I would use it layered in other skincare steps. I wouldn't repurchase this.
Dove - Invigorating Dry Shampoo I hated this dry shampoo so much, but I just wanted to get through it because I really hate tossing products. This leaves a white cast in the hair, it never really fully absorbs the oil.. so not only do you have white in your hair, it still looks greasy. It feels so thick and leaves a film. I also hated the scent. It definitely lingered around. I wouldn't purchase this again. I wouldn't even take it for free.
Alterna - Caviar CC Cream (10 in 1 complete correction) - Leave In Hair Perfector I LOVED this stuff! I thought I had an other sample sized back up, but I was wrong. It leaves my hair so shiny and smooth, and it feels so soft. And bonus - it can be used as a heat protector. I liked this so much that I purchased a full size tube.
Lancome - Monsieur Big I liked this mascara when it was fresh, but it got so thick and clumpy that I had to toss it. I wouldn't repurchase this.
L'Oreal - Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara (Waterproof) This has so much hype on the internet, and I don't know if I got a dud or what, but this stuff sucks. It was so thick, so gloopy, and very clumpy. It got even worse around the 2 week mark. Not just that, but it just doesn't want to come off of your lashes. I use an oil balm cleanser, and a foam cleanser, and this stuff still wouldn't fully come off of my lashes. I bought two. I'm hoping the second tube doesn't act the same way. As of now, I wouldn't repurchase this.
Too Faced - Better Than Sex Waterproof Mascara I really love the original Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, and I really loved this too. But it was just too stubborn to remove at the end of the day. I wouldn't repurchase just because of that. I don't want to struggle removing this.
Various Perfume Samples Versace - Bright Crystal Michael Kors - Gold (Rose Edition) Juicy Couture - Viva La Juicy
These were all scents that I ended up enjoying. None were really floral which I prefer. I would consider repurchasing the Viva La Juicy as a full size bottle, but really all were great.
Bath and Body Works - Foaming Hand Soap in Vampire Blood I love the foaming hand soap, and this was in vampire blood. It was just a plum scent. I liked it. I would possibly repurchase this scent another time, but I already have a large supply of other scents. I'll keep buying this soap!
Scentsy - Wax Bar in Blue Christmas This wasn't my favourite scent. It smelled like mens cologne and pine. This was perfect for Christmas though so I used it up then. It was also only a part of the scents of the season collection, which is no longer available to purchase. I would not repurchase this scent.
Scentsy - Wax Bar in Cranberry Bread I was hoping this would be a strong cranberry scent, but it really just smelled like cinnamon. It wasn't bad, but I don't think I'd repurchase.
The Body Shop - Shower Gel in Spiced Apple This was a nice shower gel. It lathered well. I don't think the scent is available anymore, but it was fresh, and fruity. It was apple with slight cinnamon. Perfect for fall and winter. I really enjoyed the quality of the shower gel, and will consider purchasing The Body Shop shower gels in the future.
This month I only used up 16 products! Not nearly as much as I was hoping. I've got my fingers crossed that the New Year will be better, I need to get through many of my products!
