We have now spent 5 nights in our new house and I have to admit that I love the new house more every day. Something you might not know about me is that change is really hard for me. Like, I’m REALLY bad at it. You can ask my mom how crazy I have been my entire life with change. When we moved houses when I was in the third grade, I made my parents move my ceiling fan because I loved the sound it made in my room. Weird I know. 21 years later, I find myself still doing similarly crazy things. An example would be that I had the EXACT same faucets that we put in our last master bathroom put in our new master bathroom because I knew it would remind me of our old house (in a good way). That is just one of the many examples I could give you but in order to keep myself looking totally crazy, I’ll just leave it at those two examples.
Okay, okay back to the new house and how we are adjusting. 5 nights in and no complaints. For me, the best part about moving somewhere new is learning the noises and getting to know the house. So far, no complaints. We spent the first few nights without the puppies just to make sure things were in order and the backyard was complete upon their arrival so they could have as smooth of a transition as possible (Harry gets bad anxiety and started throwing up the day our drapes got taken down at the new house..yes, that is a real story). Thankfully the puppies are loving their new space just as much as we are.
Baby Ralph is loving his new room and I SWEARRRR he appreciates the fact that I moved his light fixture from the old house to our new house (notice a trend). Moving and change can be hard but once you adjust you are reminded how good change is for you. You clean things out, you reorganize, you find new energy and inspiration in your space. It’s a clean slate and every so often it’s nice to have.
Although these photos were taken in front of our old house, I will forever love having them because it was exactly a week before we moved from our first home with a baby! I’ll always get to remember what sweet little Ralph looked like before his ‘big’ move.
If you would have asked me a year ago when I was 5 months pregnant and in the middle of a kitchen renovation if I saw myself moving a year from then, I would have laughed at you. I guess the joke is on me because surprise, we are moving tomorrow!
In this weird way this post is longggg over due but I thought what better time to show (almost) every space in our current home than the day before the move?? I know you probably are thinking we are crazy that we fixed up this 1941 gem and then decided to sell and to be honest, it was quite a hard decision because I love this house more than anything. I love that it was Wade and I’s first home renovation project (literally touched every surface), our first ‘real’ decorating experience (thanks to the talented Cindy Sontag) and the place where we brought home our first baby. Let’s just say this house had a lot of firsts and so much love. I am sure that didn’t answer your question as to why we are moving but in short, we are always looking and something popped up that we just couldn’t pass on. Trust me when I say you are going to love the bits and pieces that I eventually share!
As much as I do love this house and am going to miss its 1940’s charm, at the end of the day it’s not about the space, it is about what fills it and for me that is wherever Wade and baby Ralph are. I am so sad to say farewell to this house but excited for the next project.
I cannot believe that two days ago Ralph hit the 8 month mark. It is so crazy how the time is just flying by (you can read Ralph’s 7 month update here)! I know I have said every month is a favorite but looking back, I can honestly say that from 7-8 months not only have I seen the biggest change in baby Ralph but it has been the most fun.
Since my 7 month baby Ralph update, SOOOO much has changed. Ralph is now ‘eating’ 3 times a day, he is chattier than ever and he is SO close to being able to crawl. In fact yesterday I watched him for the first time go from laying on his tummy to sitting up. Such a BIG boy! He is always rocking back and forth, which from what everyone has said that means he will be crawling any day now! Good thing we are moving because it is time to baby proof (more on the move tomorrow, don’t worry). Baby Ralph still LOVES his bath time. In fact the other night I tried to do a ‘short’ bath and he started crying. He is much smarter than I give him credit for, haha. Ralph now has two bottom teeth and from the way he has been acting, it is looking like more are coming in soon. Oh and don’t even get me started on the giggling. The last week his giggles have completely changed. Once he starts laughing, he cannot stop. It’s the sweetest little laugh!
So much has changed in the last month but one of the biggest and best things that has happened is that he is now down to two naps a day. I’ll do a schedule update soon but the short version is that he no longer takes that last ‘cat’ nap of the day, which for us makes bedtime so much easier and it is easier to take him to dinner because we have a longer time frame from his afternoon nap to bedtime!
I know you are probably tired of me saying this but Ralph really is such an easy baby. I know this sweet little boy will be a handful at times but for now, I am soaking up every snuggle, every giggle and new thing he does. Obsessed is an understatement.
Before Baby Ralph was born, Wade and I went on more adventures than I can count. A handful of times we were just sitting at dinner and just decided to drive to the airport and jump on a plane. Crazy right? It’s hard to imagine there was a time when we could just stop what we were doing and go! In the past, all of our travels provided different experiences and I know I will forever treasure the memories that we had just the two of us.
Since Ralph was born, we have slowed down a little bit. Not because we really want to but simply to enjoy these early days with our sweet baby and adjust to life as a family of 3. Even though we are not just dropping everything and heading to the airport (there is a bit more planning involved when traveling with a little), we have made it a point to begin to take Ralph on little adventures. We have been inspired by brands like Royal Caribbean to create adventures with our family and break out of the normal routine. I have also heard that if you start them young it makes them easier travelers when they are older, so we are going with it!
Our first adventure was a trip to Nantucket. 2 plane rides with a 7 week old sounds scary but it really was probably the easiest of the three trips we have taken with the baby thus far. Our second trip with baby Ralph was a week in Miami. At the time Ralph was 6 months old and this really was the perfect age to introduce him to the swimming pool. I think we have a future fishy on our hands!
Baby Ralphs latest getaway was a long weekend in Los Angeles. He enjoyed going to the pool, the sunshine, laying outside, strolling around and of course napping! I know he is so little to remember any of these fun experiences we have had with him but they have been such fun memories to make with our new family.
While we have yet to bring our little on a Royal Caribbean adventure, I know that a ship to shore adventurous vacation will be in our near future. With ships that have something for everyone and accommodate whatever stage of life you are in (couples, friends trip, family trip); Royal Caribbean allows you to break out of your routine to get away on the most adventurous vacation. With over 250 destinations around the world, Royal Caribbean is a brand that encourages you to get out and do something. To make memories and I love that about them.
As someone who is currently all about making memories and bringing our family on fun holidays, Royal Caribbean is a brand that I admire for encouraging people to do this because at the end of the day, that’s what life is all about!
Statement earrings have always been a favorite thing of mine to collect but the last couple of months I find myself not being able to get enough. I am not sure if it’s because they are literally everywhere or the fact that it takes the most simple outfits and makes them THAT much more fun.
I am going to go with the fact that I think they take a simple outfit and make it more fun. I love that I can pair a fun statement earring with jeans and a sweater (heels or no heels) and feel that much cuter (yes, I just said that). To me, a great statement earring adds not only a fun element but an overall more polished look.
Working out can be well…blah. You are tired, have other things that you need to get done or you really just don’t feel like it. I promise, we have all been there because if working out and getting in shape were easy, we would all be what we think is the best version of ourselves.
For me, working out has always been something that I have tried to make a priority. Not because I always want to drag myself to a class because trust me when I say there are more than a handful of times I have wanted to just cancel and sleep longer but I know how much better I feel once that work out is done.
I will say that as much as I have enjoyed working out and trying to get into shape over the years every time I am in what I like to call a ‘work out slump’ I do something to at least get me back to the gym…get a cute new outfit. It may sound silly to say but for me, if I like my work out outfit I work out better. I can’t be the only one who thinks this right? One of my favorite places to get out of my work out rut and add a few cute outfits to my athleisure collection is Nordstrom.
Besides the fact that Nordstrom literally has everything you could ever need from shoes to make up to work out clothes; Nordstrom is a one stop shop for everything you could ever need to look your best for your next work out. Nordstrom has the latest trends, the best brands and product that you cannot get anywhere else.
Although I love everything that Nordstrom carries (have you seen their dreamy home department?). One of my favorite things that Nordstrom carries is their work out clothes…specifically, Zella.
For me, yes it is hard to stay motivated but by adding a cute workout look from Zella which is sold only at Nordstrom, helps me stay that much more focused and feel great about myself while working out. If working out is not your thing but you want it to be, I really do encourage you to get a new Zella outfit. Getting dressed in work out clothes makes it that much easier to just head to the gym or your favorite class and get back into it!
Between the non stop rain in Dallas and still adjusting to life as a new mom; casual seems to be my vibe lately. If I am not in jeans and some sort of button down I am usually in work out clothes. Uniform? Maybe..Convenient..oh yes.
To me, this casual outfit looks put together but I promise you it took me about 30 seconds to get dressed. Time is even more valuable post baby, so I love having go-to casual outfit combinations that I can just throw on!
I cannot believe that I have had this little space on the internet for almost 7 years and I have never done a Q & A. Over the years I have gotten a lot of questions and I have tried my best to answer them but I always feel like the majority of the time when one person has a question usually someone else does too.
If you follow me on Instagram you know that last week I put on my Instagram stories that I was going to do my first ever Q & A. I will admit that I was a little nervous even asking for questions because totally honest, I was not sure anyone would want to ask any questions. Much to my surprise, I got an overwhelming about of questions. All lovely in their own way. To keep it ‘fair’ I just decided to take the first 10. Depending on how this Q & A goes, I will do it again and open it up to more questions (so if you do have one, just e-mail me). I will say, I LOVED getting such a wide range of questions!!
My First Ever Q & A
Since you’re blessed with such an easy and happy baby (we are too thankfully!!) what parts of motherhood do you find most challenging? I would say one of the hardest parts of motherhood (so far) is balance. I could literally spend every single second with Ralph. Being a mom is one of the most satisfying things ever and I am so obsessed with my baby!! So to answer your question; finding balance has been the biggest struggle. I know that spending every single second with Ralph is not good for him or me. I want to work, I want to do things around the house, I want to spend alone time with Wade. So for me finding the perfect amount of balance to accomplish all of these things has been a bit of struggle but I am getting better because trust me when I say I could literally be with Ralph 24 hours a day.
How do you balance eating out/drinking and eating healthy. I know you work out but diet is such a big part of fitness and you’re clearly doing something right! One of the biggest things for me is portion control. I do eat what I want but it is ALWAYS in moderation. When we go to dinner or order in; I always try to pick the better of the worse options. I have to say that these days portions are disgusting. You can literally order a piece of fish and it’s soooo huge. I usually just order a salad and sides and have a normal size portion of fish or meat alongside my meal (this means that I just take off of Wade’s plate and he still has a healthy portion too).
When you travel with the doona do you take the base? or Just use the seat belt to strap it in? We don’t take the base. We just strap it in and go!
How did you get baby Ralph to nap on schedule? I can’ get my little one to fall asleep when I want her to. Practice. We have stuck to that schedule like it’s nobodies business (and have gotten a lot of sh*t for doing so along the way). At first when he was adjusting to his schedule, some naps he would just lay awake in his crib but when it’s time for him to be ‘up’ I got him up. Yes, he would be cranky but he soon learned that when he was in his bed, that’s when he gets to rest!
What is Wade’s profession? He is in oil & gas
What is in wade’s latte? a single shot of espresso, skim milk and organic vanilla coffee creamer
Did you have to let ralph cry it out? Yes and it was so sad but at the time I knew that it would only benefit him.
Where is a good place to get decent priced and good quality sweaters? I have learned that when it comes to sweaters, you get what you pay for. What I do in order to get a great sweater but not pay full price is get them on sale. Neimans always has great sales on sweaters. So does Theory!!
Will y’all have more kids? One more…maybe.
I’m petite and have the hardest time finding bras that fit properly. Any suggestions on brands or stores that work for you? You are speaking my language with this question! I love Xirena or if I need an actual ‘bra’ this one is my ALL TIME favorite.
