It's finally that time of year when people start to fix up their yards and spend their spare time outside. Here's a great tutorial on making your own modern house numbers, inspired by the clean lines of mid-century design.

Make these mid-century modern house numbers

This week I got to try out Makita's 18-Volt Lithium-Ion sub-compact impact driver. I'm no stranger to the world of impact drivers, and I'm on the record in my belief that it's one of the most basic, versatile tools anyone can own (yes, you probably need one). But this is definitely the smallest and lightest model I've ever gotten my hands on, so I was curious how it would perform, and whether it would earn a permanent spot on my workbench.

As I'm sure we're all aware by now, I have the world's WORST brown thumb. I've been known to commit plantslaughter with hardy creatures like mint and calathea that other people swear are impossible to kill. So I thought I'd put together a list of the plants that have shared a house with me and survived against all odds. I consider them my 'go-to hardy houseplants' - if they've thrived with me and my brown thumb, then they can live through anything!

I love the look of white trim and bamboo roman shades, but the problem is my window sizes are anything but standard. While I like to dream about becoming a skilled gardener someday, the reality is I have a terrible brown thumb and I kill most plants I touch. I think a lot of my garden woes have to do with inattentiveness though - I forget to water my leafy friends, fertilise them, or do anything that might come close to caring for them. Terrible right?
