Hi, friends! Today I’m sharing one final look from my summer in Houston before jumping right into FALL on the blog. (I have so much fun content coming your way, trust me!) But for today, we’re traveling back to Kemah Boardwalk and I’m sharing a fun, nautical outfit that would be perfect for dinner on the docks, and maybe even a quick round or two at the carnival afterwards! Kemah Boardwalk is such a fun place to go! It’s right on the waterfront, so you get to watch sailboats and pontoons riding out of the marina (last seen here) and out into the waves of the ocean. And there are tons of carnival games and rides at the Boardwalk to excite kids and adults alike. But one of my favorite things to do there is to grab dinner right on the water and watch the colors of sunset change over the course of your meal. Kemah is only a 20 minute drive from Clearlake, TX or a 45 minute drive from downtown Houston. So it’s a great way to get right on the water without driving all the way down south to Galveston. A little fun fact, on my very […]

Since becoming a NASA co-op nearly 7 years ago (and a NASA fellow 1 year ago), I have become accustomed to interning (living + working) in a new city over most of the summers since I began. As a consequence, I’ve learned to become quite the tourist of my own city on the weekends. Don’t get me wrong, being on my own every summer can be really tough, but I try to keep an open mind and view it as an opportunity to explore a new-to-me place and to really get to know the area. It’s also served as a real confidence booster since I’ve had to learn how to navigate a city on my own (literally and figuratively). At any rate, I thought it would be fun for me to share my go-to summer touristing outfit (as I have lovingly dubbed it) and a few of the essential things I take with me on my weekend adventures exploring a new city. If you’ve never been to Houston, TX in the summer, then I believe you’ve never truly experienced the amplifying effects of heat + humidity. Even after working in Houston for multiple summers, I could never fully say that […]

Happy Friday, friends! Have any big plans for the weekend? My parents are in town visiting, so we will be getting in some hiking before it gets too cold and snowy here for the winter. But today I’m excited to share my final look in a series of photos I took at VA Beach this summer with Jennifer Carr (who is an incredible photographer and an even more incredible person if you are ever in need of pictures in the area!). Today’s post is all about taking long walks on the beach, why they are my fondest memories of summer, and what I learned most about myself from them. But first let’s talk about this casual beachy outfit. As an avid believer that cute clothing should also be comfortable clothing, I have always loved wearing chambray pieces in the summer. They give a nod to classic denim while remaining completely breathable and lighter weight for the hot and humid times of year. I’m in love with this chambray jumpsuit I wore last year, so when this chambray dress came in the summer, I knew it would be a versatile piece that I could seamlessly incorporate into my wardrobe. Not only is […]

Hi, friends! Excited to be back today and sharing pictures from a fun-filled day at VA Beach from this summer. Since I gained quite a bit of experience making day trips to the beach (it was an hour drive from where I lived), in addition to my beach day outfit, I thought I’d also share my tried and true list of what to pack in case you have any beachy destinations in your future! First things first, let’s talk about swimsuits! I was definitely one of those girls that bought all the different colored bikinis from Target and have accumulated quite the collection since high school. But for someone who considers herself to be fairly conservative person (even more so as I’ve gotten older), I’ve been wearing more and more one-pieces. And with the recent come-back of this more conservative style, there are so many different options to choose from so that you don’t have to compromise on style. This one from J. Crew is a new summer favorite that I love for its classic simplicity yet modern sexiness (without being overdone or overly promiscuous). And I also love this strapless one I wore earlier this summer and this colorful one […]

Hi, friends! It’s been a while since we last talked, but I’m so excited to be back at it on the blog after a little break for studying–qualifying exams and my first technical conference presentation. (P.S. – Both went extremely well! Thanks for all your support!) This week I’ll be focusing on all things Virginia Beach, which if you remember, is where I spent a lot of my time this summer while I was working at NASA Langley.  At any rate, I’m excited to take a little break from the snow (yes! it is currently snowing in Boulder right now!) to recap some of my favorite summer memories on the VA Beach coast. Shall we get started?! Yay! Today’s look is all about a fun, bright look for walking along the boardwalk and some of my favorite things to do in VA Beach. Nothing says summer quite like a bright candy-colored outfit like this one! My mom and I went shopping while I was home over a long weekend earlier this summer, and I picked up this top from the new J. Crew summer line. I love the beachy-stripes and the whimsical green color. It’s definitely a color I don’t […]

Happy Friday, friends! Guess what day it is?! It’s DAY 10 DAY 10!! of the Summer 10×10 Challenge, which means today is the last outfit of this summer’s wardrobe remix. Today’s look was a classic with a traditional blue button-up paired with a pencil skirt for the perfect last day of work outfit. Today’s look came together pretty organically on its own. Since most of my wardrobe was packed up for the move back to Colorado (save but a few remaining pieces of my 10×10 picks), it didn’t take long to pick this sleeveless blue top (last styled here) and this pencil skirt. I knew that the day would be filled with lots of last minute exit meetings and impromptu farewells, so I wanted to make sure to look my best. And this look definitely fit the bill. I felt put together and confident while remaining completely comfortable in these pieces all day long. While this outfit isn’t one I’d consider to be earth-shattering or new, I love that it’s a no-fail look I can always come back to and feel like I’ve got a winner. It doesn’t get more classic than a button up blouse and a pencil skirt […]

Hi, friends! And welcome to Day 9 of the Summer 10×10 Challenge! I’m so incredibly excited to share today’s look with you because it is my absolute favorite of the bunch so far! I am totally smitten with it and already can’t wait to wear it again. Can we talk about how chic this look feels, while still remaining absolutely comfortable and completely approachable?! I’m a huge fan of casual chic looks, as I’ve lovingly dubbed them over the years, but I’ve never really consider myself to be capable of putting together something so effortlessly sophisticated. Enter this outfit, and I’m beginning to change my mind! If this outfit has taught me anything, it’s that if you have the right separates, a casual chic look isn’t too far from reach. In fact, it’s totally doable and simple to achieve. So let’s get into my thoughts on what makes this look so good. Firstly, I think the color palette lends itself a long way to achieving an effortlessly chic look. Neutrals like black, white, and gray may seem boring at first glance, but when paired together in a color-block fashion can give a high-contrast, clean lines look that anyone can appreciate. Black […]

Hi, friends! Sorry for the little break from my Summer 10×10 posts. Things got quite busy during my last week at NASA Langley, and then with the move back to Colorado, I just couldn’t keep up with the posts. But today I’m back and will hopefully get all caught up on outfits 8-10 this week and a full recap at the very end! Today’s look marks Day 8 of the Summer 10×10 Challenge, and I’m experimenting big time with how I’ve styled this look. Let’s get right into it! The last time I wore this top (here) I paired it, untucked, with a flowy pair of pants. The billowy pants, paired with the open, drapey back of the top gave the look a very minimalist, casual vibe that I loved. But when styling it for a 2nd time, I really wanted to flex my creative muscles and try something different…and a little crazy. Can you guess what I did?! I actually styled this top backwards and tied the drapey ends together in a little knot at the front. Anyone else’s mind blown? I couldn’t believe how natural it felt. I mean I don’t typically wear my clothes backwards (unless it’s […]
