In luxury designer resale, it takes someone who is skilled, enthusiastic, and goal oriented to create a shopping experience that the customer will never forget. Couture USA luxury sales consultant Susan Wine, uses her background in luxury fashion retail to create genuine connections with every customer she encounters.

Learn more about our recent addition to the Couture USA team, Susan Wine, and her experience so far as a luxury sales consultant in our Couture USA profile series.

What interested you in becoming a part of the Couture USA team?

I was looking to start a new chapter in life and was searching for a new opportunity. I have previously owned a retail store, worked in publishing, and worked in luxury retail. I knew it was time for a new venture and I thought that Couture USA would be a great learning experience for me. I was excited to take on that challenge.

What would you say are the most important factors in providing customers with an excellent shopping experience?

The shopping experience should be fun and the customer should leave our store excited about their purchase every time. My thought process behind customer service is that if I help the customer to find something special that they love, then they will always come back to shop with us again. I love to extend my customers wardrobe and provide them with knowledge about products that they didn’t know.

Who do you look to as a fashion icon?

When I was younger, I would have to say it was Edith Head. I loved the way she styled celebrities. Coco Chanel is another favorite for obvious reasons. She set the standard for everything in women’s fashion. Lastly, I adore Donna Karen. Her simplicity and use of fabrics makes every woman feel like they could wear her clothes and feel confident in them.

What are some of your favorite things about your position as a luxury sales consultant?

I love that everyone on the Couture USA team is so passionate and knowledgeable about their work. I love helping people, especially when it’s such a warm and welcoming environment. When clients walk into our boutique, you can tell they are excited about looking at our merchandise and that makes me excited to come to work everyday.

What advice would you give to someone wanting to pursue a career in fashion?

Don’t quit. Luxury sales is not an easy field to be in, but if your passionate about it, it’s well worth it. Almost every aspect of the fashion industry is difficult and competitive but that shouldn’t deter you from reaching your goals. Everyday you should be learning something new, no matter what it is.

From your experience in retail what are some of the most important lesson you’ve learned?

Always be honest with your customers. Treat your clients as you would want to be treated. Also, knowing your product and merchandise is the incredibly important. You can’t sell something to the best of your ability without knowing the history.

What shopping or fashion trends are you currently seeing among clients at Couture USA?

I see a lot of Louis Vuitton purchases. Louis Vuitton handbags never go out of style. I see lots Chanel purchases amongst clients as well. It is an icon fashion  brand to add to any collection. I believe that the pieces we sell are investments. What you purchase today is an investment in your forever expanding and changing wardrobe.

What’s the most challenging and rewarding parts of working in a customer service role?

The biggest challenge is constantly keeping up with the products and trends. The knowledge we have about our products allows us to better help our clients. However, the feeling you have after helping a client that is happy with their purchase is extremely rewarding. I love helping people, and forming strong relationships with my customers.

In the business of designer resale fashion, creative writing is required to maintain customer interest and also attract potential customers. Having the ability to sway new sales in print is important when the only way you can reach them is through a online and social network presence. The writing has to be eye-catching and powerful to be seen, which can sometimes be challenging. As a copywriter and blogger for Couture USA, Amber Smith utilizes her passion for the fashion industry and creative skills to maintain the company’s spirit through a strong online presence. In the latest edition of the Couture USA Team Profile Series, Amber shares her background and experience so far at Couture USA.

Share with us your first experience working in the Fashion industry. When did you start and what drew you to work at Couture USA?

The first experience I had working in fashion was my first retail job at 18. I worked at the local mall as a sales associate and just kept moving to different positions until I ended up at one of the most well-known brands for athletic wear and started to grow within the company. These positions gave me the opportunity to build my knowledge of fashion, so it would be easier for me to transition into the fashion industry after graduation from college. When I graduated from the University of Tampa in December 2017, with a degree in public relations and advertising, I gave myself a break to travel and work. I then got back into searching for my next move and the timing was just right because Couture USA was looking for a Junior fashion copywriter.

How did you get your start working as a blogger?

I originally started blogging my sophomore year in college for a college-based fashion blogging site. It was a digital community where fashion and beauty influencers could share their insights and offered a forum for self-expression. Before receiving this internship, I had never blogged before. It was here that I began to see that I could combine my love of fashion with what my future career in public relations and advertising. Couture USA is my first blogging experience with pre-owned luxury items and I’m excited to find my voice in this area of the fashion industry.

How would you describe your personal style?

Honestly my style is all over the place! Usually I end up seeing someone wear something on social media and then I put my own twist on it. I also try to find staple pieces that I know are timeless. I pair these classic pieces with more trendy items to give it my personal style. Everyone should have their own sense of style. Fashion is interpretive to whatever you want it to be and it has a way of being your voice. I think its important for everyone to find theirs.

Who is your idea of a fashion icon?

This is so hard because I’m a fan of so many influential people! Audrey Hepburn made me first fall in love with fashion in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Audrey will always be one of my favorites simply because she was the icon for elegance and sophistication while also being a humanitarian and activist. Other icons on my list are Diana Ross, Elizabeth Taylor, Donna Summer, Cher, and Zendaya, just to name a few.

What was your first ever designer purchase?

My first ever was a bright pink Chanel Cambon bag my mom got me, with the iconic “CC” on the front right corner. I never took care f it so I think my mom actually ended up using it more. After that, the first handbag I ever purchased was a Michael Kors carryall bag in ivory and snake print with a matching continental wallet that I wanted mostly for school purposes.

Who are your top three favorite designers of all time?

This is also such a hard question for me to answer! My answer seems to change a lot, but right now my favorites are Raf Simmons, Virgil Abloh, Alexander McQueen, and Givenchy. I think fashion, especially couture fashion, is forever changing and evolving and these designers stay true to their vision and are always developing new concepts. Brand-wise my favorites are Hermes, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Dior, and Valentino.

How would you describe your writing style?

I would like to think that my writing can be described as creative, joyful, and carefree, but my tone can always change depending on what I’m writing about. I always want to write pieces that can help or educate someone else.

When it comes time to polish off your outfit with jewelry and accessories, the hardest part is finding the happy medium between too much and not enough. As the layered jewelry trend continues to maintain its spot at the fashion forefront, we decided to bring you a few looks arranged by the Couture Team in a quick how-to on stacking designer jewelry!

Stacking With Black And Gold

Whether you’re pairing your array of accessories with an ensemble for work or a day out with friends, the classic black and gold combination is always guaranteed to create a fun and elegant outcome. For this look we matched this effortlessly chic Chanel Double Flap, with a fun arrangement featuring a David Yurman Thoroughbred watch as the center piece, a glitzy Mario Bicego Siviglia bracelet, and a David Yurman X bracelet, for a simple yet stunning finishing touch.

Stacked Silver With A Pop Of Color

To prevent an arrangement of stacked silver jewelry from looking bulky or lackluster, we recommend integrating jewelry pieces that add a subtle yet stated pop of color! We layered this funky silver display with a John Hardy 3-Coil Dot Bracelet, with a Michele Milou watch, and a Ippolita Lollipop bracelet that incorporates an understated pop of garnet red into the look. Most importantly don’t forget your matching Chanel clutch!

Stacking Tones, Textures, And Hues

When sporting a blank canvas ensemble, like a simple tee and denim, don’t be afraid to stack seemingly stand-alone statement pieces that involve different shades and hues. This metallic-themed look incorporates a stacked display featuring a Michele Diamond Deco II watch with an embossed leather band, a David Yurman Bijoux charm bracelet and a Charriol Celtic cuff bracelet with blue topaz. Keeping it consistent with the metallic base color, we chose to style this bracelet combo with a silver Louis Vuitton Alma bag that adds additional depth and texture to the look.

Are you a fan of the stacked jewelry trend? Share some of your favorite looks with us in the comments below and shop for your newest statement-making designer arm candy here!
