Twin Newborn Photographer – Boy + Girl Babies

My main goal as a Twin Newborn Photographer is to photograph each baby separately to that the parents can compare them side by side. It is also very important that I photograph them together too since that’s how they’ve spent the last 10 months in the womb.  Its always amazes me when I look at twin babies because while they are different, they are so similar too! What an incredible thing a women’s body can do!

This was actually my second time seeing this family and it was just as great as the first. I photographed their first newborn and he was still the sweetest kid at his brother and sister’s photo shoot. Having clients come back to me over the years is one of the biggest compliments I could receive!

I tell you what – moms of multiples deserve all the praise in the world! I’ve only experienced one baby at a time and it amazes me how mothers do so well with two. But I have no doubt the rollercoaster is so fun and worth it! And these boy + girl twin babies couldn’t have better parents to love them!

I used a few of my favorite newborn photography prop vendors in this session to create the simple, beautiful setups. Rozzi Rayne Studio Props is the creator of the distressed buckets and cream wooden bed.  The gorgeous pink and blue backdrops are from Manly and Pretty Little Things and I use her drops for every single newborn session I do.

Newborn Photography Seattle | Baby Boy Photographer

I was very excited when this family chose me for their Newborn Photography Seattle. I received a phone call from this family when I had a booth at Baby Fest in Bellevue and they booked a maternity and newborn photo session with me.

I met this family for the first time at Golden Gardens for their maternity session and I had a great time getting to know them. Several weeks later they traveled to my studio for their newborn session and the baby was a dream to photograph! He was a very sleepy boy and fell into every pose I put him in.

This baby boy’s older sister was so great with him and as you can tell by his smiles, he’s smitten. I have no doubt that they are going to be the best of friends growing up!

I always ask parents for their color preferences for their session beforehand and neutrals are always recommended. They can easily match any room in your home and can do the same in a grandparents’ home as well. I loved the seafoam green that mom chose too, as it was the perfect compliment to baby’s skin tone.

One of my favorite parts of this photo session was when I got a split second of his open eyes! He wasn’t fully awake and just happened to slowly blink for me, which was perfect!

I can only hope that this family loves their studio images as much as I do and that I get to see them again in the future!

How To Smooth Seamless Paper in Photoshop

Ever wonder how to smooth out seamless paper in Photoshop? Well, this tutorial will show you just how easy it is!

One of the biggest complaints from newborn photographers is how their seamless paper backdrops are wrinkled and are a pain to edit. While we would all love to have perfectly smooth backdrops, realistically it just won’t happen. Rolling and unrolling the drops with every baby is going to naturally cause warping.

Most photographers, including myself, use a hanging wall system. I’ve found it to be extremely helpful when it comes to keeping the paper tightly wound and is very convenient when it comes to changing setups. So, to me, the benefits outweigh the minimal editing I have to do in post processing.

So, here is my step-by-step processing for achieving perfectly blended backdrop paper at my photography studio sessions!

Step 1: Open image in Photoshop

After my initial edits in Lightroom, I open my image in Photoshop.

Step 2: Patch Tool

Use the patch tool to remove any large flaws such as large wrinkles or where the drop may be incomplete.

Step 3: Paintbrush Tool

Choose the paintbrush tool and right click on the image to display the brush window. Choose the “soft round pressure opacity” brush and set it to 24% opacity.

Step 4: Color Select With Eyedropper Tool

Use the eyedropper tool to select a shade of color in the shadows. Its important that you choose colors that will blend into the areas around the subject. If the color you select is either too dark or too light, you won’t be able to achieve the blended, smooth look.

Step 5: Create New Layer & Paint

Create a new layer and paint on the selected color. After the shadow area is finished, select the eyedropper tool and select a shade of color on the light side. On the *same* layer, paint on the light side in the same way you did the shadow side.

Step 6: Layer Mask

Add a Layer Mask to the layer you just painted on and brush off the subject using the paintbrush at 90% opacity. Flatten the image.

Step 7: Edit Image

I prefer to edit the image in its entirety before moving onto the next step, so I will apply the actions that I use in my workflow at this point.

Step 8: Run Banding Butcher Action

Once your image is edited to your liking, run the “Banding Butcher” action from Erin Tole’s “Let Them Be Little” set. Set your brush at 24% opacity and paint over the area you just painted. I’ve found that this action eliminates the stroke marks from the paintbrush and also prevents the banding that is caused by fades, which is explained in the next step.

Step 9: Run Fade

You’ll want to choose the color of your fade based on the color of your seamless paper. Mocha Savage Seamless Paper is my go-to for parent posing at my newborn sessions and I always use the “Earth” fade from Erin Tole’s “Paintbox” set. Then brush the fade off of the subjects with at 90% opacity.

And there you have it! A smooth, blended backdrop with no wrinkles!

If you’re more of a visual learner like me, I created a video to show you my steps in their entirety.

WHY YOU NEED A FRESH 48 SESSION

Let’s be honest – the first few days after a baby is born are some of the most hectic, chaotic moments of your life. Bringing a new life into the world means learning about this perfect little human and navigating through a fresh beginning. These are some of the best moments you’ll ever experience and I want to document these for you with a hospital “fresh 48” newborn session.

Fresh 48 Sessions are quickly becoming the most popular newborn session for families. They document all of the moments and details that you never want to forget as a parent. From the moment your little one is born, time flies by. Your baby will constantly grow and change and remembering those first few hours of life is something you will look back on forever. The precious details – from their wrinkly fingers + toes, flaky skin and tiny feet to the hospital blanket and hat they were quickly put in. Those are the things that will become a blur and a hospital newborn session is perfect for capturing them.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Within the first 24-48 hours after baby arrives, I will join you at the hospital or place of birth for an hour to photograph your family. No dressing up or glam – just the real, raw moments of you and your baby bonding. It is important to me that you are you and feel completely comfortable. So, if that means wearing sweat pants or just a robe, then by all means, please do! After all, I want to document real life and you being your authentic self is a huge part of that!

I also have a prep guide that I send to my clients upon booking. It contains tips and information on how to prepare for your session to help make things go as smoothly as possible. Its important for me that you know exactly what to expect because you have enough to worry about the day your baby is born and this session shouldn’t be one of them!

While no props or actual posing is done during the session, I will bring a few wraps and simple accessories if the parents would like to incorporate them for a simple pop of color. For the most part though, my goal is to capture the fresh newness of your baby with what is already provided at the hospital and by the parents.

FRESH 48 VIDEO ADD-ON OPTION

You may think that having both photos and video are overkill, but I assure you that’s not the case! The first 24 hours after your baby is born will pass in the blink of an eye and you may miss some of the simplest moments that pictures can’t capture. Moments such as a sweet cry from your newborn, the stiff, quick kicks of baby’s feet or you softly shushing your little one as you rock them. Capturing those details on video are so special and nothing in the world can replace them! Its the best way to remember a time that goes by so quickly and to share your beautiful experience with friends and loved ones.

Here is an example of a Fresh 48 Video taken at Good Samaritan Hospital Family Birth Center in Puyallup:

ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS

It’s important to note that a Fresh 48 Session does *not* replace a studio or in-home newborn session and clients typically book both. Babies change so quickly and will look completely different by the time the newborn session is done, which is between 10-14 days after they are born.

The things that most parents don’t think to document on their own, such as the hospital and the room they are in. The bassinet the baby is placed in, hospital bracelets and the bags that you packed – those are what make the experience real and absolutely worth investing in Fresh 48 photography.

Fresh 48 Newborn Photography – Good Sam Hospital Puyallup

Fresh 48 Newborn Photography is my absolute favorite! It truly has my heart’s passion right now and I just can’t get enough of these hospital sessions!

In addition to a simple photo session, I offer add-on films! This is something I’ve been diving into for a while now and learning the ins and outs of. Now that I finally have the opportunity to do Fresh 48 sessions, I’m excited that I can include hospital videos as well! After hiring a photographer for a Fresh 48 session with my second baby, it solidified my decision to offer them myself. And now, here I am … doing what my heart is calling it to do!

These images and video were taken at Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup, which is where my work is hanging up too! So, this location has a very special place in my heart! I offer these sessions at every local medical center, but when I get to go to this particular one, I’m always extra excited!

One of the best parts about this baby photography session is big brother was a dream! He was so gentle and loved on his baby sister in the sweetest way! There’s just truly nothing better than seeing siblings together for the first time and knowing that they are going to be the best of friends!

Bellevue Area Newborn Photographer – Baby Girl Photo Session

This baby girl came to my studio just shy of 3 weeks and I couldn’t get over how beautiful she was! She was so calm and had the prettiest features. I was so happy her parents chose me to be their Bellevue Area Newborn Photographer because she was so perfect!

One of the best things about this photography session is that the aunt inquired. There was a language barrier with the parents, so she took the initiative to contact me. When family’s go out of their way to make things work, it’s such a compliment. I love the fact that they trusted me and didn’t let something like that get in the way. Things couldn’t have gone better and they were such wonderful people. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the family.

Mom chose the perfect colors for her daughter’s newborn session! Neutrals are great for dark skin and features, so blush and cream worked beautifully with this baby girl. She looked so peaceful in the gorgeous bucket made by Rozzi Rayne Studio Props. It was the perfect size and shade of pink.

Sunset Pregnancy Session | Puyallup Maternity Photographer

This sunset pregnancy session was nothing short of perfection! It was one of the last evenings last year that was warm and the sun created the most beautiful ambiance. I left this couple excited to edit their images and show them how amazing everything went!

Since this family was expecting close to Christmas, we decided to do their session at a local Christmas Tree Farm. Its my absolute favorite location in the winter and its where my Holiday Minis take place too. Glenwood Tree Farm is a beautiful venue and offers  rentals for weddings and corporate events. They are a one-of-a-kind place and the owners are the wonderful people! Its why I go back every year!

It’s always special when parents want to include their pets in their shoots. They’ve been the babies of the family for so long, so it only makes sense that they are part of the maternity experience. I can always see parents relax as soon as they snuggle their pets, which creates the perfect setting for everyone. Even though I do get photos of families looking directly at the camera, I always prefer the candid photos full of interaction.

One of the best parts about this sunset maternity session is that mom chose to wear my Colbie Gown in wine. Its my absolute favorite from my exclusive collection and the color was perfect for the location. The mother looked gorgeous in it and it fit the location perfectly!

Fresh 48 Session | Swedish First Hill Seattle

I’ve been wanting to offer Fresh 48 sessions for a long time now and after having my second baby girl back in November, it sealed the deal! There’s absolutely nothing better than the first moments after baby is born. Fresh baby feet, little cries and just loving on your new babe are THE moments you’ll never want to forget.

These sessions are done in the hospital within 48 hours after baby is born. They are very relaxed and simple and capture the family just simply loving on their newest little addition. They are truly my favorite.

This handsome boy was born at Swedish First Hill in Seattle, Washington. It was my first time going to the hospital and it was beautiful! The rooms were spacious and the lighting was gorgeous. Everything ideal for a Fresh 48 baby session.

Seattle Area Newborn Photographer – Baby Boy Photo Session

As a Seattle area Newborn Photographer I get to meet a lot of wonderful families and this was one of them! We first met at their maternity session, so I was really looking forward to seeing them after their baby boy was born. And as soon as I saw their handsome boy, I was not disappointed! With parents as beautiful as his, he was bound to be gorgeous himself!

Mom chose a beautiful blue backdrop by Manly and Pretty Little Things and it accentuated his dark features perfectly! He rocked the matching bonnet from Mama Knits as well! Everything about his newborn session was perfection, especially when he had a few instances of open eyes. Photos of babies with their eyes open area far and few in between, but they always end up being a parent’s favorite.

His older sister was just smitten over him and she was very excited to have a sibling! The bond between siblings is one of the best to watch and I’m sure these two will have lots of memories as they grow together.

This newborn gallery is one of my favorites and I can only hope that the parents loved it as much as I did!
