Hello everyone! We have been covering all the stripes in our Chang’s Taekwondo Martial Arts program. Every student at all the locations in South Surrey, Cloverdale, Tsawwassen, Aldergrove and Mission all have to train the same techniques to get the:
Yellow Stripe
So how do you earn a Yellow Stripe? If you are able to perform you board breaking technique properly you will earn a Yellow Stripe.
-Yell loud while holding a sparring stance before you break the board
-Focus on the board
-Perform the Technique while landing safely and keeping balance
-Yell loud while holding another sparring stance after you break the board
-Wait for the Instructor or Master to say “Baro”
Earning your Yellow Stripe requires a lot of practice and dedication, never give up and keep working hard!

CHANG'S TAEKWONDO by Taekwondo - 1M ago

Hello everyone! We have just finished one spring camp and we are about to begin our second week of Spring Break Camp in White Rock and Tsawwassen next week. Let’s look forward to it!

During camp we have the opportunity to train our Taekwondo every day, which will allow us to get a certain stripe..

The White Stripe

So what does the white stripe mean? How do you earn your White Stripe?

The White Stripe is for Poomsae. Once you have trained your Poomsae long enough, and you can perform it without mistakes and with full power… you may earn your White Stripe.

There are three levels to mastering Poomsae:
0.Learn the Poomsae
0.You have Memorized the Poomsae
0.Your body has learned the Poomsae

Memorizing is not enough, Poomsae that have only been memorized will never be strong enough or fluid enough. We must practice the poomsae so much that our body remembers it… It is only when we can perform the poomsae and make it look easy, or hold a conversation while doing the poomsae properly that we know we are White Stripe Ready.

So train hard Chang’s Taekwondo Martial Artists, and earn those White Stripes!!

Hello everyone, we hope you have your Taekwondo Gala tickets because our Chang’s Taekwondo Martial Arts locations in South Surrey, Cloverdale, Tsawwassen, Aldergrove and Mission are almost out! Each location has very few tickets left.
Today we’d like to touch on an important topic, how to be a good partner.
In Taekwondo we use partners to train our self defence, kicking, body defence and so much more.
So how can we be a good partner?
Brush our teeth
Having good breath means we can chat with our partner and still be pleasant
Trim our Fingers nails and Toe nails
If we do self defence and you are grabbing your partners’ wrist, it’s nice to know you won’t scratch your partner.
Keep our uniform clean
If we have a clean uniform, it means we are a clean person. Clean people make good partners!
Let’s make sure we respect our partners and by doing so make our Taekwondo Dojang (school) a better place to train!

Watch the Blackbelt Certificate Presentation Ceremony

Watch our elective teams (weapons, sparring, advanced kicking) showcase their talent.

Watch the Instructors put on a comical skit involving the hit TV Kid’s show!

So what can parents expect?

Refreshments (including coffee and snacks)

Fun Activities in the lobby area

Enjoy the Ceremony, Demonstrations, and comical skit

Why do we host Taekwondo Gala every year? What’s the point?

We want to show our students the best of what we have to offer, and the potential that every student can achieve with hard work and perseverance. It’s a night to celebrate the sport and the martial art that is taekwondo.

Every year we have students who come out of the Bell centre inspired! They train harder and find new passion in their classes. This is why we host Taekwondo Gala, let’s inspire the next generation of blackbelts!

Hello everyone! We have a new word of the month to talk about at all our Chang’s Taekwondo Martial Arts locations in South Surrey, Cloverdale, Tsawwassen, Aldergrove and Mission.
Vision
I can see what I want to be (in my imagination)
See it
Sense it
Say it
Believe it
Achieve it
So we first have to see what we want to accomplish in our minds eye. “I want to get a blackbelt.”
Secondly, we will apply our senses to make our goal more realistic..
What will the blackbelt feel like around our waist?
Is it heavy?
What will it feel like to tie it on yourself compared to a colour belt?
How will you look in the mirror?
Thirdly, we have to say it!
Everyday! Say it when you make up, and say it when you get to Taekwondo class
Fourth: Believe it
We have to believe with every fibre of our being that we will accomplish our goal, we will get our Blackbelt for sure!
Lastly, we will achieve it.
We know that if we keep training, it isn’t a matter of if.. just a matter of WHEN we will receive our blackbelt.
So never give up and keep working towards your goal, no matter what it is!

Blog about rolling class
Hello everyone! We just finished our rolling training this week for the month of November. If you love rolling and cannot get enough of it, we have a special class for you!
Chang’s Taekwondo Rolling Class
This class is available at Chang’s Taekwondo Martial Arts in South Surrey, Cloverdale and Tsawwassen.
What is the rolling class?
The rolling class is an opportunity to focus solely on the art of rolling. We practice and perfect the basic rolls from our taekwondo classes. Plus we move on to master the more difficult rolling techniques including the kick-up, flipping and handstands.
If you are interested in bringing your rolling to a new level, please talk to your Head Instructor!

Hello everyone! We have a tournament going on this weekend, it’s called the BC Master Cup. We’re excited to say we have many students from each of our Chang’s Taekwondo Martial Arts locations in South Surrey, Cloverdale, Tsawwassen, Aldergrove and Mission attending this tournament. Competition happens in two different ways. Either Poomsae or Sparring.
Poomsae is the practice of Taekwondo techniques formed into a pattern that is performed either by oneself or with a team in front of judges. Points are deducted for stance, block, strike, or kicking incorrectly. The poomsae we train in our classes are the poomsae tested at the tournament! The poomsae are the same in all 220 countries of the World Taekwondo.
Sparing is the competitive sport side of Taekwondo. Two competitors use their punches, kicks, and blocks to try and attain more points then their opponent. There is no punching to the head, and kicking to the head is only allowed for Blackbelts and only those above the age of 12. Taekwondo sparring is great to watch, because it is full of action and also the aim is NOT to hurt the opponent, only to negate points and gain points.
The BC Master’s Cup is a great way to experience Taekwondo outside of it’s usual setting in your local Dojang. We high encourage all students to come out and visit the tournament to see the atmosphere of Taekwondo.
