I’m always so amazed with this beautiful thing called life. The twists and turns it takes us on ALWAYS have a purpose.

I’ve known Jenise for a VERY long time. We are one school grade apart but we went to school together since we were in elementary school. Interesting enough, while we technically knew each other, we didn’t have much contact in elementary, middle or high school. Her family has always been around my life as well seeing as her parents were administrators at the schools I attended as a child and during my teen years. For years we kept in touch here and there but nothing major. I’m not quite sure at what point our friendship became a friendship but I know it was because of our love for photography. Jenise was a teacher for many years and throughout her career developed photography as a hobby and later turned it into a career herself. She’s the face behind Photos by Jenise. She then took it further and created her blog, A Toddler & a Topknot where she combined her love of photography, fashion and mommy hood. For the past few years, we’ve become close friends and have seen each other’s families grow. To add just one more twist to the story, her mom is now also my husband’s boss. <3

Jenise has an adorable son named Caleb. I was lucky enough to capture Caleb’s birth announcement photos, maternity photos and newborn photos. This time around, Baby Sister Chloe, as Caleb says, was on the way and mom and dad wanted me to capture her big arrival. I was SOOOOOOOO nervous to shoot this! Even though I’ve had 3 kids myself, I had never witnessed a natural birth so I had no idea what to expect. I wasn’t sure if I would pass out. I was nervous I’d miss “the moment”. I was even more nervous that she would go into labor in the middle of the night and I would totally miss her call! Thankfully, timing was PERFECT.

Chloe wasn’t coming around on her own, so the doctor induced Jenise and I headed over to the hospital after a newborn session I was shooting. I was so grateful to have shot the before, during and after! I’ll let the photos do the talking because I’m SO happy with how they came out and even happier and forever grateful to Jenise and Eddie to have had this opportunity because I otherwise would have never experienced it. I’ll let Jenise go more into detail about her birth on her blog but until then, enjoy some of my favorite moments from Chloe’s incredible arrival.

(Side Note: After posting some of these photos on social media, I have been approached by quite a few clients about birth photography. As much as I would LOVE to capture births [seriously, I LOVED it!], I just can’t commit to photographing a birth knowing that I have 3 kids and multiple sessions already on my calendar. I would hate to let someone down and not be available. However, if you twist my arm a bit, I may be available for fresh 48 sessions [haha])

I’m thrilled to share one of my most recent newborn sessions with you all. This little guy has been long awaited! His mommy and I went to school together and she’s also the fabulous owner of The Sweethouse Desserts. She does such an amazing job with my 1st birthday cakes and is just such an all around sweet person and professional!

I remember during one of her cake deliveries at my house she told me she was pregnant! How exciting right? As the months passed, I witnessed Max growing in her belly. I was lucky enough to capture her gender reveal party which turned into a surprise engagement for her! Now she’s happily married and little Max has arrived!

We wanted to make sure we incorporated a little bit of both parents into the session so we created a baker set up and some military inspired shots since dad is a fire fighter for the US Air Force. <3

Here’s just a few of my favorites from his newborn session.

Two years ago an old high school peer contacted me to do his newborn daughter’s newborn session. She was the cutest, little chunkiest newbie! Last week, her little brother arrived in the world and I was shocked that he looks IDENTICAL to his big sister. Don’t believe me? Look and her newborn session here.

Here are just some of my favorite shots from Dennis’ newborn session.

Happy Tuesday! I wanted to share a post today about an adorable little sweetie. Emma was born at 34 weeks. She’s super special to mommy and daddy and I know she will be very loved.

Since she was born a little early, she’s actually almost a month old in these pics, but truly is still around her 40 weeks gestational age. Crazy, huh?

I nicknamed Emma “the complainer” during her session. She basically fussed for everything! LOL She was calm and easy to photograph but the moment you touched her, she made a noise, if you moved her hand, she complained, changing, etc. She was so cute though! Oh, and she made sure she marked her territory on EVERY blanket we used. LOL

Here are just a few of my favorites from her session…

It’s always so special to capture multiple milestones for families and this family is one of those that I’ve seen grown into parents. I first met Brittany and Luis during their rehearsal dinner. Years later, I captured their baby shower and now I was lucky enough to capture their new addition, Claire and what a little doll she is!

Claire’s nursery is soft colors of mint, pink and gold so I wanted to incorporate this color palette into her session.

Take a peek into the cuteness!

I thought it was only appropriate that I post a newborn blog post today. As I woke up to take my 3 babies to school, I realized this site tagged me on Facebook. As I read the article I realized that the site awarded me not only as one of the 100 newborn photography blogs and website, but I am #3! It makes me so thankful and humbled!

To celebrate, I wanted to post an adorable little boy that arrived to my studio this month for his newborn session. I can’t believe I get to snuggle and photograph these tiny little miracles for a living and then get to share it with the world.

Zachary’s mom filled out her pre session questionnaire and let me know she wanted lots of blues and nautical props so I made sure I delivered JUST what she wanted so that his images could match his nautical nursery. Another request was an airplane setup because his grandfather is a pilot!

Here are just a few of my favorites from Zach’s session.

Sweet, sweet Ava arrived a few weeks early surprising mom and dad. She came in last week to my new studio at under 6 pounds and was the first newborn I photographed in it. She has the most darling little patch of blonde hair on the top of her head, which you can see in quite a few of these photos.

She was so excited to see my studio! She even opened her eyes towards the end of her session to check it out. LOL

I’ve known Ethan’s mom since 3rd grade! I sound like a broken record, I know, but seriously, the best part about my job is getting to reconnect with old friends and capturing how their families have evolved and grown.

When my father had to undergo open heart surgery 4 weeks ago, I started to research a ton of info. I wanted to make sure he had the best team at hand. Well what would you know that my friend from elementary school would be the ICU nurse he would get right after surgery. She was seriously the nicest and had my mom, who was a nervous wreck, at ease. I am forever grateful to her and the entire team at the hospital for taking care of my father.

Ok, ok, let’s get back to Ethan. Just a few weeks after my dad had surgery, Ethan was born and isn’t he the CUTEST!?! This year I’ve made it a goal to really personalize all my sessions. I want to make sure that each and every session is a reflection of whomever I am photographing. With that in mind, I ask the parents for photos of the baby’s nursery, their living room or anything else they really like. When mommy sent me a photo of his nursery it was an adorable forest/adventure/explorer theme so I wanted to incorporate that into his session.

I had this little set up ready to go when he arrived and added some key pieces from his nursery such as his quilt and stuffed animals.

I had been dying to photograph a baby in this adorable hat from Nikki’s Crafts and when mommy said all of these were their favorite colors, I knew it was a match made in heaven!

This little Lion is also part of his room!
