In these modern times, everyone is in possession of an at least average smartphone with a camera decent enough to take a few selfies. During some not so good days for us, we thank the heavens for the filters! You can look absolutely dazzling even in your worst days since these filters cover your skin imperfections, dark circles under your tired eyes and beautify your skin so that it glows. What if there was a way to make your skin glow in real life as well? Without filters? Take a look at some routine tips for glowing skin and pure skin perfection.
1. Eat right, drink right and sleep right
Having a healthy diet is essential for maintaining a fresh and joyful face. However, this is not enough. You need to enrich your diet with antioxidants that can be found in some fruits such as berries, citrus fruits, pineapples, leafy green veggies and seafood, which are all beaming with essential vitamins, nutrients and antioxidants. They act as boosters of collagen and they also add to the nourishment of the skin. Radiant skin also requires vitamin C and eating foods rich in natural oil. This category includes walnuts and almonds.
Besides a balanced diet, it is important to have a sufficient water intake on a daily basis. In that way you keep yourself and your skin hydrated too. Water purifies your organism by removing the toxins and it also keeps you refreshed. Water in our body has a function of maintaining the natural Ph balance in our bodies. Drinking water helps and so does consuming watery fruits and veggies such as watermelon, cucumber and melon. The consequences of dehydration are seen in dry, tight, itchy and flaky skin. You should drink at least two litres of water a day for normal functioning.
For a normal looking skin we need at least seven to eight hours of sound sleep. Lack of sleep has severe effects on our skin, which will eventually begin to look tiring, saggy and dull. What processes happen to our skin when we sleep? During sleep, our skin cells get a boost, since blood flow to the skin is increased. However, if you don’t get enough sleep your skin is in serious risk of appearing lifeless.
2. Do some physical exercise
Regular physical activity is important in every aspect of our life, and so is it in connection with our skin nourishment. Namely, doing regular physical exercise improves blood flow, which enables more oxygen for the skin cells. In this way, our bodies heal any tissue damage such as sunburn or acne. Any type of sport – running, playing volleyball, hitting the gym – will do. Each workout will bring a glow to your face.
3. Develop a regular skincare routine
Regular skin care routine is all about cleansing, toning and moisturizing our face. And this implies only a bare minimum. We should keep our faces clean and hydrated by washing it at least two times a day. You should use a cleanser that suits your needs and you should gently massage it in your face in a circular motion, all over your face. Next step is to rinse it off your face with lukewarm water for best results. Opt for pat drying your face with a soft napkin. Then, apply a toner to your face. The toner will lower your skin’s Ph levels and calm it. Lastly, apply a nourishing and hydrating cream that has the best effects on your skin type. As far as summer is concerned, you should follow specific skin care tips for glowing summer skin. If your skin is beautiful, you feel beautiful too. This is important for us because of many reasons. As Dr. Ross Farhadeih at Panthea says: “Confidence is everything.” When we feel beautiful, we’re confident. And when we’re confident, we can do anything.
Exfoliation of the skin is fundamental because our body sheds dead skin every day. You should exfoliate your skin regularly, once or twice a week, since this process removes dead skin layers from your skin. If you skip this process, your skin will look dry and dull. By removing a layer of dead skin, your skin will instantly appear brighter and more radiant. When you try it out, you’ll see the difference immediately. You can buy exfoliating cream or you can make your own from all natural ingredients. For example, one such homemade exfoliating cream is made from a teaspoon of walnut powder and a tablespoon of yoghurt. When you mix it in, apply it on your face and let it dry. When dry, remove with lukewarm water. You can use different body scrubs and an exfoliator to exfoliate the skin on your body. Once you rinse it out and dry yourself, remember to apply moisturizer. For a year-round beautiful skin, introduce this process to your regular shower time once or twice a week and you’ll notice the difference in no time.
5. Remove your makeup
The worst thing you can do to your skin: go to bed with makeup on. You should ALWAYS make time to remove makeup from your face because your skin needs to breathe and it can’t do that with layers of makeup on. Leftover makeup on your face causes your pores to clog up which eventually results in blackheads and different skin imperfections. You can use a store-bought makeup removal or natural oils such as olive and coconut oil to remove your makeup. After you finish removing your makeup, remember to cleanse, apply toner and moisturize.
6. Use sun protection
Nowadays, we need to apply sunblock every day and all year round in order to protect our skin from UVB rays. If you spend too much time exposed to the sun you are in danger of developing several skin problems such as wrinkles, age spots, premature aging and pigmentation. So it’s high time you made the application of sunblock your regular daily must. Even if it’s cloudy, the UVB rays manage to pass through them. You can buy a sunblock with different SPF. The strength of SPF will depend on your skin type. The rule is: put one shot glass size of sunscreen on your body and a full teaspoon on your face. Repeat the process every one to two hours when you’re in direct sun. Remember, buy a new bottle of sunscreen every year!
7. Use natural products
For a healthy and natural glow, try using completely natural products that you have around your home. These products do wonders for your skin. You can make your own cream, body scrubs, exfoliants and other beauty products.
watermelon – for an instant glow, apply liquid from the watermelon to your face
cucumber – you can do the same with the cucumber
ice cubes – use ice cubes on the skin right under your eyes to reduce puffiness
natural shower gel – mix two tablespoons of chickpea flour, half a teaspoon of turmeric powder and one tablespoon of milk cream and use it as a body wash
pack for tightening skin – use a mixture of multani mitti and rose water to tighten your skin
8. Apply moisturizers and toners
Toners keep our skin oil-free and clean and that’s good enough for you to start using it. Regular application of toner reduces the appearance of pores. A mist toner is a good option for summer days since it hydrates your skin and perks up your complexion. For full refreshment, choose a toner with cucumber, rosewater or aloe, or make your own.
Moisturizers are ought to be used all year round. You should choose a heavy moisturizer for winter and a light one for summer days. Moisturizers keep your skin hydrated and they also maintain the balance of Ph levels of the skin. With the right balance of Ph levels, your skin glows naturally. According to your skin type, choose the right moisturizer for you. Make sure your moisturizer is non-comedogenic because you don’t want your pores clogged.
Achieving Insta-worthy glow doesn’t necessarily have to imply using filters. It is up to you and the way you care for your health and skin. Follow these steps for radiant skin, and maybe people will wonder what ‘filter’ you’re using.
If you’ve grown overly critical about your employer, find yourself impatient with colleagues and clients alike, can’t seem to focus, and put a little bit too much value on unhealthy vices, there’s a good chance you’re burnt out with your career. Reasons for career burnout include too much work, too little pay, and a lack of control. No matter what caused your workplace disillusion, you have to provide for your family. Here are a few ways to beat the burnout so that you can be your best both at home and at work.
Change your focus
When you fall into a never-ending pattern of wake up, go to work, come home, sleep, repeat, you give your brain very little fuel. You can enter into an almost highway hypnosis-like state, except instead of a car accident, you may experience a career crash. Give yourself a change of scenery a few times each week, and you just might find that you’re more productive and spend less time daydreaming about driving away from your 9-to-5 responsibilities.
One of the most effective ways to beat burnout is to take a vacation. Time off is a great way to break the cycle that contributes to burnout, and traveling to another city or immersing yourself in another culture can reinvigorate your mind and boost your productivity. Even a staycation can be therapeutic, and living in the Los Angeles-area lends itself to a lot of opportunity for rest and relaxation. Get out of your habit trail by snagging a vacation rental in an area that plays to your interests, like family-friendly Santa Monica, laid-back hipster haven Venice Beach or the Silverlake area, which has some of the best hiking in the city.
Feed your brain
There’s no denying that work can drain your brain. You can spend so much time trying to fix problems and put out fires that your gray matter isn’t able to easily get out of fight or flight mode. But there are ways you can jumpstart your senses, boost your brain’s ability to produce happiness-producing neurotransmitters, and even improve your attention span. This miracle cure? Exercise.
Exercise is something you can do even without the benefit of a gym. BBC.com recently wrote about the benefits of exercise during the work day. The site notes, among other things, that even just a few minutes of purposeful activity is beneficial. Keep a pair of sneakers handy, and then look for opportunities to get your heart rate up. A 10-minute walk during your lunch hour is one of the easiest and fastest ways to boost your ability to concentrate. When you can concentrate, you can get things done more efficiently, which can keep you from logging in to work once you get home. The result is a clear line between your personal and professional lives, which can make a big difference to your overall happiness levels in both.
Take a look at how much you actually work. You might find that you’re logging more than the 40 hours your pay structure was built to compensate. Then, pay attention to when you are most productive. For some, this is early in the morning. Others work best at closer to the midnight hour. Once you identify how much you work and when you’re best at it, consider changing your hours. While this won’t be practical for some jobs, the tech-centered world we live in makes it possible for many. Changing from a rigid schedule to a flexible one can make you a better worker, and even reduce the number of days you miss each year.
Job burnout can hurt your professional reputation and ability to provide for your family. By finding ways to redirect your focus, boost your brain, and work when you’re most productive, you can keep the flames you once felt for your profession alive and well.
When work gets tough and other sources of stress start to get to you, dreaming about a vacation can help you get through the day. It also helps if we actually take that vacation.
Too many Americans leave paid vacation days on the table, thus giving money back to their employers. On average, employees who get paid vacation only take about half of what they’re entitled to. Consider how much money you get paid per day and how many vacation days you don’t take — that adds up to the amount of money you’re paying your employer.
So take that vacation, already! There’s no reason not to. If the idea of spending thousands of dollars on a trip seems daunting, find a cheaper option. The internet is full of budget travel sites just waiting to be used.
Stress-Reducing Travel Tips
Though some people can thoroughly relax while on vacation, many find that going on a trip can be even more stressful than staying at home. Learning to travel without stress is a challenge, but it can be done successfully. Read on for tips to help you relax and make the most of your time off.
Plan ahead. If your trip is planned and paid for beforehand, you’re less likely to spend precious vacation time deciding what to do next.
Don’t plan too much. Don’t plan every waking moment of your trip. Trying to squeeze everything into one week can drive you crazy. Knowing what you can reasonably fit into each day is key. Leave some room for spontaneity.
Build in a day of rest. Don’t arrive home Sunday evening and plan to go to work Monday morning. You’ll be exhausted and possibly jet-lagged. Come home a day early, or add another vacation day so that you have a day to do laundry, unpack, and take a nap if needed. That way, when it’s time to go back to work, you’ll be refreshed and ready to share your experiences with your co-workers.
Relax. Spend some of your vacation time doing something restful. Lying on the beach, visiting a spa, and taking in a theater production can give you rest. These will help you recharge rather than wear you out.
Build in time. If you don’t schedule a good buffer at the airport, you’re more likely to miss a flight, adding a heaping pile of stress to your trip. Make sure layovers are reasonable with plenty of time for delays, or long enough to let you explore a city.
Bring entertainment. Books, tablets, cell phones, and crossword puzzles will keep your mind occupied during the boring parts of travel. Sources of entertainment are especially important if you’re traveling with children. Flights are often long and tedious, and you’ll find yourself bored and unable to sleep. Having enough to do will ease this boredom.
Calm your anxiety. If you’re afraid to fly, this can make traveling even more stressful. Try taking CBD oil, which has been shown to help promote calmness. Ask your doctor if you can take CBD, then read a comparison list online to find the best one for you.
Before You Go
While you’re away, you don’t want to worry about your home. Make sure you have a good security system in place, including an alarm with monitoring. Most systems today have smartphone apps so that you can ensure you’ll be alerted the moment something happens. This will stop you from worrying that your home could be burgled or damaged. Also, make sure that you stop the mail and newspapers, so that your home doesn’t appear to be empty. Putting some of your lights on timers will also give the appearance that you’re home.
The most important tip for enjoying your vacation is to live in the moment. Don’t worry about what’s going on at work, at home, at school, or when you have to catch the next train—sit and savor the view, the company, and the experience. These are the moments you’ll remember when you’re back at work in a boring meeting. Now get planning!
This is post sponsored by DSW Designer Shoe Warehouse. All opinions expressed in this post are mine.
With the first day of Spring starting on March 20, now is the perfect time to begin your spring shoe shopping. Spring is all about lighter clothing, carrying a jacket instead of wearing it, enjoying a fresh glass of lemonade, playing an outdoor sport like tennis, but the most fun activity of the new season is refreshing your wardrobe from winter to spring. In this post you will get the opportunity to discover my top three shoe styles for spring with the help of my friends at DSW. So are you ready to get started? Let’s do this!
1. Casual with a Pop of Color!
During the spring, I am always drawn to any outfit that includes jeans. I find it so easy to style jeans because you can wear them during the day or at night while out on the town with your girlfriends. The trick to this vertical look is having the right pair of shoes. The “Alycia” espadrille sandal by Dolce Vita is perfect for a day to night look. With this bright yellow color and tan heel combined, these sandals make it easy to bring that casual look to a whole new level. If you’re not a jean girl like me, I would suggest wearing these heels with black ankle cropped slacks and a white t-shirt or a blue blouse or jean button down. Either way you are going to love how comfortable it is to wear the head to toe look from day to night.
2. A Formal Look Done Bright
When I think of spring events, I think of weddings. Attending a wedding is always fun, but the decision of what to wear can be a challenge. My struggles include how to show off my style without being over powering with my color choices. While exploring DSW.com, I came across these adorable Pescanta pumps from the Jessica Simpson line. The details on these classic shaped heels are gorgeous. I love the see-through effect with the sea wave design around the toe. Most importantly, this royal blue color is bright but not over powering, making it easy to wear to a formal event. It adds just enough color to your look that can show off your bold personality. If you’re not attending any formal events this Spring, you could easily wear the Pescanta with a simple formal dress or even a suit set for work. These pumps are interchangeable to any look!
3. Perk it Up with Candy-Colored Sandals
Sandals, the ultimate spring shoe necessity! I have been known to have a lot of black sandals in my closet but this Spring I am stepping out with more color in my sandal selection. I hope you will join me on this new style venture. Having a bright colored sandal makes a look more exciting and eye-catching. I am loving these super comfortable Bleecker & Bond Mindy sandal heels. With all the intricate straps, double buckles, and zip up back, these shoes are a must have. Another way to style these cute shoes is with a solid color dress or with skinny white jeans and a graphic tee. This orange-red color heel can be used in a lot of different looks within your closet. It’s one of those types of shoes you can really play with and take a chance without going overboard.
As the days become longer, flowers begin to bloom, and style becomes more colorful, spring is always a season to look forward to. I love how we can style many different looks while bringing color into our wardrobe. DSW is filled with many different shoes and accessories to take your spring look into a new and fabulously colorful direction. Be sure to check out the DSW website today. Comment below which look is your favorite and how you will be bringing color into your wardrobe this spring. Thanks for reading and we will chat again soon!
When a new year rolls around, many people start thinking about the best ways to improve their lives. Some start to focus more on their physical health, vowing to lose weight or eat healthier; others are more career-oriented and want to begin mapping out a plan for their business in the coming months. It’s a very personal thing to consider, so it’s important to think about what you want your goals to be and the best ways to achieve them.
Once you’ve narrowed down your main goals, find out more about how you can get started. Those who want to work on their health should start thinking about a plan for an exercise routine and a diet that will work for their needs. For those who have business in their crosshairs, it’s crucial to get organized and do your homework. Do you need startup funding? Do you need a storefront or can you take care of sales online? Consider all the details involved that will pave the way for success in 2019.
Keep reading for some great tips on how to improve yourself in the new year.
Go after your dreams
If you’ve been thinking about starting your own business, now is the time to do it. There have been so many success stories in recent years about entrepreneurs who have utilized the tools and resources available online in order to build a home-based business, which would allow you to set your own hours and work from the comfort of home. If a restaurant or store is your main goal, take the leap and start looking at funding options. Once you learn about the different types of funding available ( e.g. an SBA loan, a term loan, a business line of credit, invoice financing) and how they work, you’ll have a clearer picture of how to jump in. Knowledge is power and can be the launchpad for the life you’ve always wanted.
If starting your own business doesn’t sound appealing but you still want to focus on your career, consider actions you can take that will help you climb the ladder of success. If you want to change jobs or simply move up at your current one, it’s essential to know what you want and to have a fantastic resume that showcases all your qualities so that you stand out among the competition. The more work you put into the resume format — and the more tailored the cover letter is for the job you want — the better chance you’ll have of scoring that interview.
Set realistic goals
Many people start out the new year with a goal to eat healthier, to lose weight, to give up bad habits. And while those are all worthwhile goals, it’s crucial for your success that you remain realistic. Keep in mind that it’s not easy to lose a great deal of weight at once, or to give up smoking cold turkey. Patience is key here, as well as staying motivated, so keep your goals realistic in order to stay on track. Start small and work your way up, and be sure to celebrate all your achievements no matter how small.
The stress of life can sometimes prevent us from taking good care of ourselves, both physically and mentally, but it’s important to find ways to feel good. Many of us often feel guilt when it comes to taking time for ourselves, but keep in mind that you can’t be the best version of yourself if you’re sick, stressed, or exhausted. Take some time for a break, find something you enjoy doing and incorporate it into your day, and pamper yourself a bit. You’re worth it.
Improving your life in 2019 doesn’t have to be a stressful endeavor. Write down your goals and a plan for how to achieve them. Life will likely throw a few curveballs along the way, but with some motivation and patience, you’ll find success and peace in the next year.
The holiday season is finally here! This is a time to get together and celebrate with family, and it is the season of giving. Giving is a wonderful feeling, but can certainly take its toll on the bank account. However, there are some steps that can be taken to be sure that you can have a wonderful holiday without going broke!
One of the first ways you can ensure savings is to pre-plan a budget. Before going out shopping for family and friends, create a list. Include all the names of people you plan to buy gifts for, along with some gift ideas for each, and a spending limit. Once you have you done this you can begin buying gifts for each individual. It is important to track your spending as you go. Chime’s mobile banking app is a great way to track your spending and be sure you are not going over your set limit.
The second way to cut spending during the holidays is to look for special holiday deals. This is why creating a list ahead is important. Once you have some gift ideas for each person, you can do your research to find the cheapest place to purchase. Often times there are rebate sites, like Mr. Rebates that you can buy from and receive cash back.
Finally, you can save by coming up with creative gift ideas that can be significantly less expensive. You could sew or knit something for a family member, or create a painting or craft for them. These gifts are unique and sentimental! If you are not the artistic or crafty type, do not fret, check out some additional tips for saving during the holidays below!
Many people make skincare a priority when they are older, but the secret is to start taking care of your skin as soon as possible. This helps to enhance skin positive development. I was 15 years old when I noticed my first pimple. I remember it so well! I had no idea what was happening to my face. Unfortunately, my skin
continued to be problematic and I had to take action. Growing up I was fortunate enough to see a dermatologist and the doctor helped me to create a better skincare routine. Treatment helped tremendously in my healthy skin journey.
Not everyone has the luxury of visiting a dermatologist, but thankfully skincare products have successfully increased and become more inclusive to all people. Over the counter skincare creates a way for more people of all ages to achieve healthy looking skin. One brand that has never stopped working its magic in the skincare industry is Olay. Olay is a skincare line that has helped so many people achieve beautiful skin without breaking the bank. I love that I can count on Olay to help my skin and many ways.
One area of my skincare routine that is extremely important is my moisturizing. Even though my skin continues to be very oily, it is important for me to moisturize. I have been loving Olay Regenerist Whip, now fragrance-free, which is a weightless cream that does so much more than just moisturize! It can be used as a primer, it keeps skin hydrated all day, and throughout time your skin develops a natural glow and even texture. The consistency is very much whipped, allowing you to use small amounts each time. A small amount of this product goes a long way. I usually use a dime size of the product morning and night. For me, I see positive changes instantly when I apply Regenerist to my skin!
Another product that is perfect for those who want to protect their skin from everyday sun, is Olay Whip Total Effects with SPF 25 (now fragrance- free too). Total Effects is a part of the Whips collection and is made with SPF 25! It transfers from cream to liquid instantly, allowing your skin to hydrate and absorb all at once.
A new feature in both Regenerist and Total Effects is the fact that they are both fragrance free. This is great because now more customers with sensitive skin can now experience the amazing results of both Whip products. Be sure to check out them at your local Walgreens and click here to shop today!
My grandmother was a collector of jewelry. She loves every kind of jewelry: necklaces, rings, bracelets, earrings, anklets, and more. When it came to her jewelry, she was the essence of statement pieces and conversation starters. I was lucky enough to inherit some of her most cherished jewelry items that I will pass down to my daughter someday. My Mom, has the
same love for jewelry. Often times, my mom calls and asks if I have any unwanted jewelry that I am willing to send her. It’s almost become tradition when I visit my parents in Indiana I must always bring jewelry. She loves anything bold and unique.
My love for jewelry is very different than my grandmother and mother. I am a lover of delicate and simple jewelry. Nothing too showy or extremely out there. I am a strong believer in less is more. Most people know me to also wear the same pieces. A simple tiered necklace, minimalistic rings, and studded earrings. Well to be honest, sometimes I get bold with my earrings but that’s the most I will do! Overall, I like to keep my jewels as simple and delicate as possible. Can you relate or are you more like my mom and grandmother?
As I have gotten older, it has become more of a desire to find long-lasting jewelry. When I find a piece I love, I want to wear it more than just once or twice. I want it to last forever. KAY is the perfect place to shop all my delicate and long-lasting jewelry pieces.
You can see in my photos the three amazing pieces I can wear with everything! I am loving this tiered necklace because it goes with all my tops and dresses, doesn’t over power my outfit but enhances it in a very simple way. The rings are my favorite though because they are both subtle and don’t weigh my hand down like other rings may do. Of the three pieces which is your favorite?
Now it’s giveaway time! Head over to my Instagram to enter to win one of these KAY pieces. Looking forward to chatting over there. Thanks so much for reading and I will see you back on the blog soon!
It’s not just millennials – most of us enjoy taking selfies from time to time, whether to put it on Snapchat or Instagram or simply to have a great pic.
But how good your selfie is will greatly depend on one thing – your perfect smile. If you really want to shine on a selfie photo and get plenty of likes, then use a couple of tips to make your smile unforgettable and unique.
1. Whiter teeth
You may have straight teeth, but if they are not actually white but beige, you could visit a professional that will whiten them. White teeth are the precondition of a perfect smile. If the stains are not too serious, you may want to try laser whitening or even whitening kit to use at home.
2. The right kind of smile
Being natural is important if you want to dazzle people with your selfie. Don’t put on a fake smile because you are without a doubt the prettiest when you smile genuinely. Also, if your smile is too big, it may highlight features on your face in all the wrong ways. Just be relaxed when you’re smiling and that will be visible through your smile. It’s also a good trick to match your lower lip with the upper teeth curve – that’s how you will make the best effect.
3. Practice makes perfection
This may sound weird, but it’s actually really effective if you practice achieving the perfect smile before you post a selfie on the social media. Try out different angles, turn your body in different ways, tilt your head left or right – you will figure out what pose is the right one for you. And practice thinking about something positive and cheerful while taking a selfie – that could actually help you get that genuine smile. Once you find out what works for you, remember that stance and use it from then on.
4. Amazing lip gloss
Lip color is what will hugely affect your selfie – a great smile is not complete without a lip color, possibly in gloss form. Girls love shiny things, so do it with your lips, too. A lip gloss will make your lips attractive and delicious – and they are a big part of your smile. This isn’t just a tip for a great selfie – use this tip for every situation and your lips will always pop!
5. Healthy teeth
No point in trying to make your teeth whiter if you don’t have a proper dental hygiene. Add a little bit of fun to your regular teeth brushing by choosing the one just for you among cool personalized toothbrushes and make sure you brush your teeth for 3 minutes. Use quality toothpaste and always floss your teeth. Lastly, have your regular visits to your dentist, meaning every six months. That way, your teeth and mouth will be healthy and you’ll be proud to smile when holding the camera!
6. Straighter teeth
Maybe you didn’t want to wear braces when you were little, and now you’re mad at yourself and your crooked teeth. And let’s be honest – it really doesn’t look good if your teeth are going different directions while you’re trying your best to make a cute selfie or there’s a big gap between them that attracts all the attention when you put on a big smile. It’s never too late for braces – nowadays, they can be almost invisible. Or you can go the other way completely – choose one in a vivid color and cute decorations – why not have fun in the process?
7. A bit of photography knowledge can’t hurt
A perfect selfie is a mix of a great smile and some knowledge of photography. The light is important here – if you take a selfie under a low light, it won’t do you any favors. Whenever it’s possible, take a selfie in a shaded place on a sunny day. If you’re indoors, take your selfie by a window.
All in all
A perfect selfie is achievable for anybody. You just need to practice a bit until you learn how to do it flawlessly. Once you’re done, just post it and enjoy the tones of positive comments and likes!
