If your skin is oily year-round, it may get that much worse in the hot summer months. Even if your skin is normally dry, it could get oily as you sweat through the weather changes. The rising of temperatures and humidity are generally to blame for the excess sebum which leads to oiliness on your face.

So, how do you reduce oily skin? Here’s how:

  1. Know the right cleansing routine. You might be tempted to wash your face much more than usual, but this can actually make the issue worse. When you wash your face too often, it strips your skin of moisture which can actually cause more oil to compensate. Wash your face twice a day as normal, but you may want to switch to an oil reducing cleanser.
  2. Be sure to continue moisturizing. Even if your skin seems too oily, you still need to use a moisturizer. Just make sure you are using a light, oil-free moisturizer.
  3. Use lighter serums and sunscreens and remember, less is more. You don’t need fancy products in the summer months or to overdo your skincare routine. This can actually make the issue worse if you are going overboard with products.
  4. Keep oil-blotting sheets in your purse or your car. They are great at absorbing excess oil and are generally pretty inexpensive. You can also use plain tissues to blot the oil off your face.
  5. Use waterproof makeup. In the summer, waterproof makeup is your best friend. It will stay put even if you decide to jump into a pool or get very sweaty and oily outdoors. You may also want to try using matte makeup, which can help reduce oil. Less is more with makeup as well! You will likely have a more natural glow and don’t need as much makeup anyway.
  6. Drink lots of water to stay hydrated. If your skin is hydrated, it can actually look less oily.
  7. If nothing is helping and your skin is breaking out and getting increasingly oilier, you may want to see a dermatologist to find out the true cause. Remember, everyone’s skin is different.

Do you have oily skin? Do you find it gets worse in the summer?

In recent years, doctors have been warning about the negative effects of sitting too much. Many of us sit for eight hours at work, sit for an hour on the commute home, and then come home and sit on the couch. This is horrible for our health! Even getting up and taking a walk or exercising every day may not be enough to help.

If you haven’t been feeling well lately, of course, you need to talk to your doctor. If you are worried that sitting too much is contributing to your health concerns, check out this list of problems that can be caused by sitting too much:

  1. Studies show that people in professions who sit more often versus those who stand have more heart problems and are more prone to heart disease.
  2. It can shorten your life. Many doctors worry about people sitting too much because studies show time and time again that people who sit all day die earlier than those who don’t.
  3. It could also put you at risk of dementia, diabetes, stroke, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and even cancer.
  4. You’re at risk of deep vein thrombosis, which is a clot in your leg that is caused by non-activity. This can be very serious. It can also lead to unattractive varicose veins.
  5. You might be overweight. Even if you exercise regularly, if you sit too often, you might not even be getting all the benefits of exercise that you should.
  6. You may have trouble sleeping which could also lead to anxiety and/or depression.
  7. It hurts your back. If you sit a lot, you are likely to have back and neck issues. Try a standing desk or ergonomic chair to help. Regular massages can also be helpful.
  8. It could weaken your bones and lead to osteoporosis as you age. Make sure to get enough vitamin D and calcium in your diet to help prevent osteoporosis as well.

This is your sign! Get up and keep moving. If you have to sit for a long time for a job or a commute, make sure to take regular breaks. If you work at a desk, try a standing desk.

Do you ever worry about sitting too much? Do you think excessive sitting is having a negative impact on your health?

Exercise is always great, but how do you know if you’re overdoing it? Many people don’t talk about it, but there are risks to working out too much! If you just started a new workout routine or joined a gym and are loving it, you might think it is great to go once or multiple times per day. However, your body does need rest too!

If you overdo the workouts, you could actually be harming your body, increasing body fat, and losing strength while you’re at it. When you work out, it creates tiny tears in your muscles that only recover during rest. In addition to taking rest days, you will also need to eat healthy and drink plenty of water.

Here are some of the signs that you are working out too much and need to rest:

If you find that you just can’t perform like you once did, this is a sign you need a break. If you can’t lift as much weight, can’t run as far, or simply can’t perform like you normally do, this is your body’s first signs of overload. Another sign? You aren’t enjoying your workouts like you normally do.

If you start to feel depressed, angry, anxious, or irritable, it could be a sign that your body is feeling stressed. When your body feels stressed, your mind tends to feel stressed too.

If you notice that your resting heart rate seems to be higher than normal, you may be putting too much stress on your heart. You may also start feeling more tired or fatigued than you normally do. If you are sleeping the same and not experiencing any other stress, it is a big sign that you are overdoing the workouts. You may want to try wearing a smartwatch that can track your heart rate and sleeping habits to find out if you’re at risk.

If you are having trouble sleeping for no other reason, your insomnia might be a sign that you are working out too much. Take a break from your workouts and see if your sleep improves.

If you are working out too much, you may also notice a decrease in appetite, a weakened immune system, or an increase in fat gain. When you stress out your body, this can lead to you getting sick more often. Working out too much can see an increase in fat gain, which can be frustrating if you are trying to lose weight and burn fat.

As always, if you are not feeling well, please see your doctor and alert them of all of your symptoms.

Have you ever experienced symptoms as a result of working out too much? What is your workout of choice?

If you found this article informative, please SHARE with your friends and family who exercise a lot to warn them of the symptoms of burnout!

Running is a great way to exercise, lose weight, stay fit, and have fun! However, it can be very difficult to actually start a running routine and run consistently. Many people start and fall off the wagon because they get tired, bored, or get injured.

Here are some tips to help you start a running routine:

  1. Pick a race. A 5K (about 3.1 miles) is a great race to start with. Sign up for a race to keep yourself accountable and give you a goal to work towards. If you know that you have a race in a month or two, it will give you the motivation to start running on a consistent basis.
  2. Find a running group. Just like a goal can keep you accountable, other people can help too! Finding friends that like to run and run consistently can help you to maintain the habit as well. A running group can also help you to improve your form and your time.
  3. Buy some new gear. Make sure you have the proper running shoes, clothes, and gear. If you are running outdoors, you will want to make sure you have water, sunscreen, and other basics too.
  4. Start with a run-walk method. Basically, you’ll walk for a few minutes and then alternate to running for a few minutes. This can help you work your way up to just running by increasing your stamina. If you just start running after not exercising for months, you might hurt yourself.
  5. Learn proper running form. Ask a trainer or look up videos on proper running form and technique to avoid injury.
  6. Choose a training plan. There are many free apps available like the Couch to 5K plan that can help you start a running routine easily. You may also want to schedule runs in your calendar just like you would an important meeting. Start with several times a week.
  7. Make sure to stretch. Stretching is very important to help you avoid injury and have a successful running routine. Stretching is most important after your run.
  8. Learn what foods are good to eat before and after your run. Small snacks that contain carbs and proteins are great before and after a run. You should aim to eat about an hour before you plan to run and then eat within a half an hour after you run. Bananas, peanut butter sandwiches, and chocolate milk are all great options. Many people like to make protein smoothies as well.
  9. Have a reason in mind why you want to start a running routine. This can help you stay focused on days where you just don’t feel like running. Perhaps you want to lose weight or you just want to move your body to feel healthier. Whatever the reason, keep it on a Post-It note to remind yourself when it feels tough.

Do you currently have a running routine or would you like to start one? What is your favorite tip on this list?

If you enjoyed these tips, please SHARE this article with a friend who would like to start a running routine and isn’t quite sure how!

Of course, everyone loves when spring and summer finally arrive after a long winter! However, unfortunately, that is when most people’s allergies start to flare up. You know the drill… runny nose, itchy eyes, sneezing, coughing, sore throat, headaches, and other annoying symptoms. Luckily, there are some ways to ease the pain and start feeling better fast.

Here are some ways to help ease your spring and summer allergies:

  1. First things first, talk to your doctor about allergy medications. Taking an allergy pill every day or before your symptoms start can reduce symptoms especially if you will be around your triggers. You may also want to ask about an allergy test so you know what you are allergic to. This can help you avoid your triggers and reduce symptoms as well. If your allergies are very severe, your doctor may also recommend allergy shots.
  2. During days when allergy triggers like pollen are high, avoid being outdoors. There are websites you can check that will tell you when allergy triggers are at their highest. If you do have to be outdoors during these times, wear sunglasses to protect your eyes. When you come indoors, change your clothes and take a shower if your symptoms tend to get worse after you come inside. This can also help prevent pollen and other triggers like grass from coming into your home and causing you issues.
  3. Try a natural remedy. Ask your doctor or a naturopath what kind of herbal remedies might help you. There are teas and essential oils that can reduce symptoms. If you like diffusing essential oils in your home, try a mix of peppermint, lemon, and lavender essential oils (about 2 drops of each) to reduce symptoms and make the air smell fresh.
  4. Always remove shoes before coming indoors and ask your guests to remove their shoes as well. Shut your windows to avoid pollen and other allergens from entering your home. You can also try an air purifier and clean often.
  5. Don’t smoke. Smoking can make allergy symptoms worse.

Do you get allergies in the spring or summer? Do you know which allergens trigger your symptoms?

If you found this article helpful, please SHARE this with your friends and family who routinely have allergy problems when the weather warms up!

Have you ever heard of skin or facial essences? They are big in Korean skincare and are now becoming popular in the United States and beyond. But what really is it? A facial essence is a light, hydrating liquid that goes on your skin after you cleanse but before you moisturize.

Essentially, it primes your skin so it can absorb your serum and moisturizer and they can work more effectively. Think of it as adding more nutrients to your skin.

What is the difference between a skin essence and a toner? They sound similar, but they are different. Toners are basically water with some alcohol and oils to help remove makeup. Facial essences are creamier and have more active ingredients, rather than mainly water.

Facial essences are typically used after cleanser and toner. All you need is a few drops in your hand and press the essence into your face until it is well absorbed. Just like cleansers and moisturizers, you can buy a facial essence for your specific skin type or concerns.

If you have dry or dehydrated skin, look for a moisturizing essence that contains hyaluronic acid.

If your skin looks dull, look for a brightening essence that contains pearl pigments and botanicals.

You can also get facial essences that are a spray instead if you want a more low maintenance approach. Facial essences can also help prep and prime your skin for makeup and keep it hydrated and glowing.

Have you ever heard of facial or skin essences? Have you ever tried one?

If you found this article interesting, please SHARE with your friends and family who may be interested in adding facial essences to their skincare routine!

How often have people said to you, “you look tired today?” While it isn’t a welcome comment for most people, often it might be true. You know that when you are sleep deprived, your skin looks sleep deprived as well. Your skin is greatly affected by what you eat and your sleeping habits. If you had a rough night’s sleep, your skin may look dry, dull, or even start to break out.

When you sleep, your body recovers from the day. Your skin also recovers from all the stress you put on it, from emotional stress to environmental. Your cells also refresh during your sleep, so if you regularly don’t get good sleep, you could start to age faster.

If you find your skin looking a little rough after not getting enough sleep, here are some tips to help out:

Prevent more dry skin by using a humidifier at night. It can help keep moisture in the air and prevent your skin from becoming dry.

Relax! Stress will just make you look and feel more stressed out. Do something that relaxes you and makes you feel good. Take a nap if you can!

Eat a healthy diet and exercise if you can. This can help you feel and look more awake, even after a rough night’s sleep.

If you look tired, there are ways to brighten up your face even if you feel sleepy all day. When you wake up, try using a jade roller. Bonus points if you keep it in the refrigerator. The coolness can calm down any inflammation, swelling, and redness. Aloe vera gel is can also help cool your skin and depuff. Before you wash your face, put some aloe vera gel on and let it sit for a few minutes before your morning skincare routine.

If your face is looking a little dull, exfoliate. This can help get rid of dead skin cells and dullness. Try an exfoliating scrub that is gentle and brightening. Lastly, try a brightening moisturizer.

Next, you’ll need some makeup to help brighten up your face and make you look wide awake. Concealer is your best friend right now. Cream concealers will work best for you right now. This can help add moisture to under your eyes. You can also add concealer to your eyelids as well to help brighten up your eye area.

When you don’t sleep well, your skin is likely dull and dehydrated in the morning. Cream products will work better for you unless your skin is always very oily. A little bit of bronzer and blush will also make you look more awake.

A little bit of white eyeliner can brighten up the corners of your eyes. Black eyeliner on the upper lid can help as well. Use mascara and a lash curler too.

What are your favorite tips to make yourself look more awake when you’ve had a bad night’s sleep and you can see it on your face?

If you enjoyed this article, please SHARE these tips with your friends and family who always complain they aren’t getting enough sleep!

If you are looking to make your skin glow, look no further. You don’t need to spend tons of money on expensive facials or makeup highlighters. There are simple things you can do every day to get the glowing skin you want. Here are some of the best suggestions:

First of all, take care of your skin. Cleanse your skin every day and exfoliate about once or twice a week. Using a facial cleansing brush can be a game changer as well. It helps to remove dead skin cells that can keep your face looking dull. Don’t forget your moisturizer and SPF too!

Give yourself a facial massage. Do you know how they massage your face when you get a facial? You might feel silly massaging your own face, but it can help stimulate your blood flow which gives you a nice glow. It can also help your products to soak into your skin more. Focus on massaging in upward strokes to avoid premature aging.

Don’t use hot water. Hot showers may feel nice, but they are horrible for your skin. Stick to short, cooler showers. Your skin and the environment will thank you. make sure you’re drinking enough water too. If your skin looks dull and dry instead of glowing, it could mean that you’re simply dehydrated.

Look for skin care products that contain retinoids, vitamin A, or ceramides. These can help plump up your skin and give it a natural glow.

Lastly, use makeup to help give you a glow. There are now so many different products that can make you look glowing in no time. Look for highlighters, powders, setting sprays, and much more! Who says you can’t use glitter as an adult?

Be sure to check out our new GLOW TO COLLECTION by Christie Brinkley. It contains mascara, an eye shadow palette, highlighter and bronzer that will give you the beautiful  glow you desire!

Have you noticed certain products popping up in the skincare aisle relating to your skin’s pH levels? Specifically, cleansers and toners are showing up to help balance your skin’s pH levels. Do you really need them? What does it all mean? We have got your back. Learn what the pH balance chart really means and how your skin’s pH levels affect your skin.

What does pH balance mean? There is a pH scale that is a numerical scale that can measure a number of things, including your skin. It measures how acidic or neutral something is. This can be related to your skin’s health. You actually want your skin to be a little bit acidic, about 5.5 on the pH scale. The scale typically goes from 0 to 14, with 0 being the most acidic. 7 on the chart is completely neutral.

The skin is your largest organ and your skin is at its best when it is around 5.5 on the pH scale. This means your skin is protected from the elements and has the right amount of natural oils and bacteria. If your skin’s pH balance is off, this could mean that your skin has some issues like acne or eczema. If your skin is suddenly too red, too itchy or flaky, too dry, or too oily, your skin’s pH balance may be off. If all of a sudden, your skin is “too” anything, you may want to try to balance your skin’s pH levels. So, how do you balance your skin’s pH levels?

In addition to cleansers, toners, and other products that balance the skin’s pH levels, probiotics can help. Probiotics help to balance your skin. You can either take a supplement or use a skin care product that contains probiotics. You can also help to balance pH levels by not over washing, over scrubbing or switching up your products too often. In other words, be gentle with your skin!

Have you ever heard of pH levels or scales? Did you realize that you need to balance your skin’s pH levels too? Have you ever seen a product that helps your skin’s pH levels?

If you found this article informative, please SHARE with your friends and family who could use some help balancing their skin’s pH levels!
