Hi there! My name is Jessica Sturdy and I’m a twenty-something currently living in the Gold Coast in Chicago. Bows & Sequins is a fashion-focused lifestyle blog where you’ll find posts about my personal style and current sartorial inspirations.
Here’s a look at what I wore this past week in Chicago! I took my favorite silky shirtdress and styled it two different ways… One for a more professional setting while I was in an office all day, and then wore the dress open like a duster with a bodysuit and jeans for happy hour that same evening. Hope this gives you some ideas for outfits this week!
Monday, June 3rd | Grabbing lunch with a friend at Sweetgreen
Happy Monday, friends! This was the first weekend that I didn’t have a single plan going into the weekend and IT. WAS. GLORIOUS. No plans are the best plans, aren’t they?! I hung out at a friend’s on Friday night, had girls over to my pool on Saturday afternoon, went to Do Division on Saturday evening, and had a lazy Sunday hanging out with friends yesterday. It was the perfect balance of relaxing and fun and I’m feeling recharged and ready for the week for the first time in what feels like forever.
Happy Wednesday, friends! Hope you all had an amazing time with friends and family this past weekend and soaked up an extra day of R&R! As mentioned, I was in Napa/Sonoma over the weekend for a bachelorette party so I have a few outfits from wine country, BottleRock Music Festival, and a few snaps from Chicago, too.
How fun are these pants?! They were perfect for a 4.5 hour flight at 6am because they feel like pajamas! Great for going to-and-from the beach, too. There’s also a matching shirt (available here & here) that would be so cute tied up like the outfit above! And, of course, a cute little dress in the same lightweight fabric.
Friday, May 24th | Dinner at Spoonbar in Healdsburg
Memorial Day Weekend is almost here, which means we have full permission to rock red, white, and blue for the next three months! No matter if it’s MDW, the Fourth of July, or a random Wednesday lunch date, you can usually find me in some form of red, white, and blue throughout the summer. Navy and white tends to be my go-to color combo, and it’s always a classic choice to pair it with a pop of red. (Even if it’s just your lipstick!)
Here are twelve of my favorite red, white, and blue hued outfits over the last few years…
And you can check out this post from a few years back for ten more!
While the warm, sunshine-filled days have been few and far between lately in Chicago, we lucked out with an absolutely beautiful Friday morning a few weeks ago and it was nice enough that I could comfortably take off my jacket when I was walking around Millennium Park with my friend, Ashley.
The trees were blooming, the birds were chirping, the grass was actually green, and the tulips were looking as bright and bold as ever! It’s those little moments where you can’t help but smile and breathe a sigh of relief. Winter might actually finally be over, haha.
I’ve never been much of a ‘flatform’ kinda girl, but I’ve worn this pair a number of times in the two short weeks I’ve had them. I’m just 5’5”, so I appreciate the little bit of lift while remaining super comfortable! I will say — they take a time or two to break in since they’re high-quality leather, but I’m at the point where they’re feelin’ good.
When I was picking out my outfit for a recent partnership with Dillard’s, I saw this railroad stripe dress and knew it was the one! I am down-right obsessed with feminine midi-dress silhouettes with little feminine touches like ruffles at the shoulder and a tiered skirt. They’re unbelievably versatile… work, weekend, and everything in between. (FYI: I’m wearing a Medium here and could have probably gone down to a Small! But since it was for a partnership, I didn’t have time to exchange in order to meet deadlines.)
And you guys!! Do not even get me started on this bag. I’ve literally worn it every day since I got it! The leather and canvas is perfect for spring and summer, and I love how it’s small, but not *too* small. I think it’s great for day-to-night! You can actually totally remove the strap and use it as a clutch, too. (Or even add a fun striped or embellished strap if you’re feeling fashion-forward!)
Hope you all are having a great week! I wanted to share a little outfit round up of most of what I wore last week in Louisville, Kentucky and a couple of outfits here in Chicago, too. There wasn’t a full-length mirror in my room so I apologize for all of the selfies, haha.
It seems like it’s been about forever and a day since I’ve done a ‘regular’ ol’ outfit post… It almost feels like a throwback! Now that it’s getting warmer, I do plan to shoot some more outfits just like the good ol’ days to showcase some of the new pieces I’ve been adding to my spring and summer wardrobe. After going on Remote Year and living out of a suitcase for four months, and then coming back to Chicago in the dead of winter and not wanting to brave the elements (and not really having anything new to photograph as I hadn’t shopped in months!), I just kind of fell out of the habit for a while. Of course, I do love sharing my everyday outfits in my What I Wore Series, but it’s fun to get some non-mirror-selfies to better show off an outfit here and there!
I can’t say it enough with these sunglasses… I am *obsessed* with them! I get so many compliments when I wear them and they’re less than $30. They honestly look like they should be designer! How they’re not sold out yet is beyond me, as I know a lot of you have bought them already, too.
Back at it again with my favorite slide sandals… I’m calling it now, these will be my most worn shoes of the season! I have this brown color and the white ones, too. They’re super comfy and both colors go with pretty much anything! (Plus, they’re on sale under $40 and look like they should be 2-3x that price!)
