One item taken off my childhood bucket list. This is one of those childhood dreams I used to have, playing with tons and tons of Lego bricks. I remember my parents could not afford Lego for me so being just about all the normal parents out there, I want my children to experience fun that I never hard. But back in those days, never in my wild imagination that I thought Lego would come this far. The Lego I saw in Legoland Malaysia was simply beyond awesome.

If you want to get the full-experience of Malaysia’s 1st International Themepark, you have to stay in their hotel. And you definitely have to bring you children. I came here on a 2D1N trip and brought along my precious little troublemakers to cover up the fact that I was too shy to come alone. hahahhaa…. That way people wouldn’t look at me in a weird way when I am playing with Lego!

Ashley (left) and Ashton (right) in Legoland Malaysia THE LOBBY IS AWESOME

Just as we entered the hotel’s lobby, they suddenly went berserk. I couldn’t blame them because I almost lost my composure after seeing these.

Lego Castle Lego Pirate Ship

There are hundreds and thousands and probably millions of lego bricks in the lobby just waiting for your creative minds or cute emotional hands that love to throw things. Either way, the kids were having so much fun while their daddy was dealing with the check-in procedure.

Fortunately, their check-in process was painless and I was helped by the friendly Roziana (the most left with the short hair) . Thanks for being cool! It also helps that the background wall is so eye-pleasing for Lego fanatics because there are 12,528 Lego mini figures on display behind the reception desk.

If you think these Legos are cool, you would be in for a bigger surprise as you read on. Meanwhile, let me remind you the check-in time is at 4 pm. I reached here a couple hours early so I have every right to be a child once more!

Batamliciouz with Excalibur Sword

Yup, I got myself an Excalibur Lego Sword to kill the green dragon that is disturbing the peace of my Lego Kingdom!

Legoland Hotel boasts 258 rooms with different themes: Pirate, Adventure, Kingdom, and NinjaGo! All their rooms include 1 bedroom for the grown-ups with king-sized bed and 1 bedroom for the children with bunk ned and a pull-out trundle bed. My family stayed in the Adventure theme.

Children bedroom

My children were so excited when they saw this bunk bed. Ashton was like ‘I am going to sleep up here. This is for big kid. Mei mei (younger sister) can sleep down there.” Their happy faces are priceless to me.

Parents Bedroom Bedroom amenities

All of the floor is carpeted by the way. Being in this room makes me feel just a little younger. hahahhaa

Bathroom – adult basin Bathroom – children basin

What I love most about their bathroom is the children basin. Even in the bathroom they have Lego figures hanging on the wall.

View of Themepark

This is the view from our room and of course, the children were already excited even before we go there. But I told them that we are only going there tomorrow morning. The theme park opens from 10:00 – 18:00 so you really want to maximize your day ticket.

So I decided to bring the kids to enjoy the hotel facilities because the next day, we would be out the whole day.

Legoland Hotel Swimming Pool

There are two pools here, one for adult, and one for children. The children pool is quite fun because you could build floating Lego!!!

Legoland Hotel Kids Club

Their kids club is an open play area located between the lobby and restaurant. There are many lego bricks, small or big, lying around just waiting for you. There is a console game available at the other corner.

Restaurants are available inside the hotel but I decided to explore Medini Mall, which is just 3-5 mins walk away from the hotel. There isn’t much going on at this mall except there are some fast food chains, restaurants, gift shops, minimart, and others. But that is enough because my children (and also myself included) only need one thing…. and that is…

KFC in Medini Mall

Yesss… KFC! Who doesn’t love KFC right? And before we went back to the hotel, we stocked up on some waters and snacks from the minimart across.

The breakfast spread here is awesome. Taste is relative but yeah, lots of selections for the children. Even the entire restaurant is as expected, Lego-themed.

Legoland Hotel Breakfast Legoland Hotel Breakfast Legoland Hotel Breakfast

My suggestion, make sure the children eat enough. They need the energy for what comes next. It would be a long long day!

TA DA!!! Finally we are at the main attraction, the Themepark!

Ticket Counter

You can buy your tickets here or online from their website here. Be sure to watch out for any online promotion.

Ticket Price

Here are the prices as of the time of this post. Currently there is and ongoing promo Buy 2 Adult get 1 Kid FREE! You can book it here. Booking period is July 5-19 but the ticket is valid until Nov 30, 2018. Toddlers below 3 years old can go in FREE!

I would suggest you to take at least 1-day combo ticket. But the most value for money is the 2-day combo ticket. What I am going to show you here was completed with 1-day combo ticket. Doable but honestly it was quite tiring and we did not get to take all the rides and watch all the shows

The Entrance

The main entrance is here. Everyone has to go through security check. Outside food and drinks are not allowed into the themepark. However, if it’s like baby food or milk, I think it is okay.

Stroller Rental

I brought my own stroller but I was surprised many people were actually renting these. So here is the pricing on the stroller rentals.

1. The beginning
2. Lego technic
3. Lego kingdoms
4. Lego ninjago world
5. Imagination
6. Land of adventure
7. Lego city
8. Miniland

Basically you start from NO. 1 The beginning. Then moving to your left and clockwise would be No 2-7 in a circle path until you come back to the beginning. No 8. Miniland is located in the center of the themepark.

1. Play your route. Do you homework before you come. Study the map and plan your route so you know where to go when you are here. You can check out their map here.
2. Most visitors would start clockwise. I did a counter clockwise route to beat the queues. So I started from no 7. Lego City and walked my way to No. 2 Lego technic before coming back to the entrance.
3. There is at least one food option per area. I strongly suggest Lego Fries from Burger Joint (Area No.6) and Fried Chicken from Asian Deli (Area No 2)
4. Watch the shows in Lego City Stage and Lego Studio. Plan your rides around the show times.
5. Again, buy 2 day combo tickets. You would need the whole day if you want to enjoy all the rides in the themepark. The waterpark itself has tons of fun activities available.

Here are some pictures so you can get some rough ideas.

Junior driving school in Lego City

Ashton on his first Lego car ride!

Dino Island Ride in Land of Adventure

This ride will make you wet!

Lego Fries from Burger Joint in Land of Adventure

Unexpectedly delicious and filling. It is cheap too for themepark standard RM 9.

Lego studio in Imagination

Please plan your rides around these show timings. Children enjoy it.

This is definitely the best hotel I have stayed in Medan and probably the most luxurious too. Not to mention their 5-star service, definitely a great representation of JW Marriot’s high standard. Look at the reception desk. Classy, elegant, and rather inviting right?

I stayed in probably their most “standard” room. And if this is the standard, then I want to try their suite next time. Hahahaa

Deluxe Room – spacious right?

The room is spotless!

Deluxe Room – Sofas, Desk, and View!

I like this corner where  I could read my reports while munching on some snacks.

King size bed

Their bed is so nice and fluffy. Not too soft, not too hard. Anyone could use those extra pillows right? I had a really good night sleep on this bed.

Medan city view

I got a city view! I think I am more of a city view kind of person. Waking up to this view with coffee on one hand sounds pretty good right?

See-thru bathroom with a bathup

Their bathroom has good size and design is definitely classy and elegant. My favorite part is their see-through bathroom with automated blind. Open the bedroom window too and you get a city view while bathing

Your daily essentials

This is why I never bring my toothbrush, shaver, lotion, etc to a JW Marriott hotel. Okay fine, I am just lazy to pack these small little things that could get loss.

Universal plug and media connectivity

As with other JW Marriot hotels I had stayed in, this one also put great attention to details. Things like this universal plug and other connections that one might need for work/travel.

Welcome fruits and snacks

My favorite part though is definitely this warm and personal greeting card. I love the thought they put into this simple but expressive welcome food. They are introducing local fruits and snacks not just from Indonesia but also quite closely related to this culinary city of Medan. Well-represented indeed.

Needless to say, JW Marriott breakfast spread is always so massive that you won’t even have to worry about lunch. Hahahaaa just take a look at their different stations ranging from Asian, Continental, Western, even Indian cuisine. Allow me to tour you!

Continental station and juices Congee and Sushi station Noodle station and some Indonesian dishes Asian station – dimsum and more Indian and Western station

I think that’s enough right? hahahaha so when you book the room, make sure to include the breakfast package okay. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day afterall right.

What I had! Want some?

Oh did I mention Egg stations too? I especially love it because I could customize my own eggs. I had a super cheesy scrambled egg. I also took a ltitle bit of everything. This complete breakfast lasted me till quite late in the afternoon.

Did I just say cheese? Sorry for not being sorry in repeating myself!

I love to keep in shape and there are two things I look for in a hotel in this regards: Gym and Pool. Obviously they have them and I think you will like it.

Gym – Treadmills with a view! Gym – more than you could ask for right?

Their gym has plenty of equipments spread out in quite a big area. What I love most is the city view on all sides of the gym.

Swimming pool with city view Cabanas and small pool

After a good workout session, let’s cool down at their open-air pool with relaxing cabanas.

Business Lounge

They also have a very spacious business lounger for meetings and such. In fact, you could just chill here if you don’t want to stay in your room. Newspapers and magazines are available upon request.

Business Lounge

I personally like this corner of the business lounge. Feels like a living room in a penthouse I never own.

From the moment I stepped in the hotel entrance, the security personnel greeted me with warm smile that apparently was highly contagious to other hoteliers. This lasted till the day I checked out.

Special shoutout to these following people for making my brief stay awesome: Mr. Amit Sakhrani, Ms. Peri, Mr. Rahul, Mr. Andika, Mr. Jaka, and many more my limited brain capacity could remember.

With Ms. Peri – Marketing Communication Manager

Thank you all JW Marriott Medan staff for making my work stay enjoyable.
