Julia Thomson run an award-winning garden design studio based in South London which I founded in 2011 after having worked for a renowned international design practice for eight years. She have a passion for excellent, life-enhancing, landscape design.
Here is a preview of our latest garden, 2 months after completion. It looks great now but I know it will look stunning in 2 years time when all the planting has established. The clients wanted a garden that looks effortlessly elegant, entice their teenage son and his friends, cater for their love of entertaining as well as their need to retreat sometimes and find a haven of tranquility.
Here are some pics of our first residential green wall, shortly after its installation. It's 10 meters long but just showing some sections here as my camera (phone ;-) doesn't allow me to shoot its whole length. Some of it is in semi shade and some in full sun so we had to be quite clever about plant selection and transition between one aspect to the next so that it looks consistent.
We are delighted to be collaborating with the very talented Jak Studio Architects http://jakstudio.co.uk/ on this exciting residential project for a very keen gardener married to an architect with a passion for sustainable design.
The landscape design compliments the architecture of the new building, has taken all the vistas in consideration and provides many zones and uses while helping with the planning conditions. It's a Win Win!
The BUILD Architecture Awards 2018 have been announced and we are happy and proud to have been named the Best Garden Design Practice for 2018 in South London. Additionally our A Garden for a Modern house has been named Best London Residential Garden Design.
A big thank you to the Society of Garden Designers for the fantastic conference yesterday. The speakers were all outstanding! A lot of food for thought... Frankly this is the understatement of the year, more like: I left a better designer than I came in. Yes it was that good! Amazing to hear from professionals at the top of their games, who are also pioneers, full of gusto, self deprecating and using humour at any given opportunity. Big love for the industry! (and total reverence for Rick Darke and Julie Bargmann, I will never look at the New York High Line the same way..).
I am delighted to announce that I am now officially a fully registered member of the Society of Garden Designers after having successfully completed their full adjudication process. I'm so proud to be joining the SGD family. The SGD works tirelessly to promote best practice and high standards within our industry. This is a stamp of high quality and a recognition by my peers, which means a lot to me!
