Enrolling in beauty school is exciting and fun. And while you will work hard during your beauty education, we want to help make the process of the not-so-fun stuff as smooth as possible. That’s why we want to help you avoid any of the confusion around scholarships, financial aid, and the application process itself. Here’s a list of the different steps you can expect to take when looking into a beauty school:

  1. Reach out to the school by filling out a form on their website or calling them directly.
  2. Take a tour of the school.
  3. Fill out financial aid and application paperwork.
  4. Begin your beauty school program!

The process may vary school by school, but most cosmetology schools follow this pattern so that you can get to know the school, experience a little of it for yourself, and get the help you need when applying for financial aid and filling out paperwork.

Why Touring The School is Important

Would you buy a car that you have never driven before? Of course not! And the same approach should be applied to beauty schools. Most cosmetology and esthetics schools offer tours specifically so you can get an idea of what the school is like, ask any questions that may be on your mind, as well as provide any other information you might need before the next step in the process. Common questions people ask on their tours include:

  • How many students are in each class?
  • How does this school prepare me for my career after beauty school?
  • What financial aid or scholarship opportunities are available?
  • What can I expect to learn in this program?
  • What do I need to do to be ready for this program?

The tour is an exciting opportunity to ask any and all questions you might have on your mind. You could have the opportunity to see the student kits, see what the student salon is like, and even meet some of the staff or instructors that would have a hand in helping you learn beauty!

Paying For School

Students are frequently anxious about figuring out how to pay for their beauty school program, so that’s something we’re ready to help you with! There’s no need to try to figure it out on your own. Our admissions team has been working with students for a long time to make their dreams happen, so you’re in good hands.

Payment Options

Making beauty school happen is all about finding the payment options that work best for you. Of course you can pay for your program in cash, but we’ve found that most students need a few more options. Our programs are accredited, which means our students can apply for federal financial aid if they are eligible. Other options include grants, scholarships, student loans, college savings plans, and more. Our staff can help you evaluate all of your options to find the best plan for your situation!

Enrollment & Orientation

Once you have a financing plan in place, that’s when you can move ahead with enrollment and getting ready for orientation! The enrollment paperwork is a relatively simple and straightforward contract that holds both the school and the students to standards that can allow everyone to be successful. From there, your journey begins!

Things To Look Forward To

The beauty school journey is full of exciting milestones along the way, and enrollment is just the first one. During your first several weeks at beauty school, you’ll spend most of your time in the classroom coming to grips with the beauty basics. During this time is when you’ll receive the kit for your selected program, which is one of the most exciting days at beauty school! The next milestone is when you start working on the salon or spa floor. It can be intimidating, but it’s where our students start to find themselves. The most exciting milestone comes at the end when you graduate. It’s where your beauty school journey comes to an end and the journey of a lifetime as a beauty professional begins!

Begin Your Beautiful Future

Still trying to make the leap on your future in beauty? Wait no longer! Most cosmetologists, estheticians, and other beauty professionals say that they had actually begun their journey sooner. Don’t live with the regret of putting off your potential!

Contact Broken Arrow Beauty College today and we can help you with every step of the enrollment process. We have programs in cosmetology, esthetics, and manicuring for you to choose from. Don’t delay any longer, contact us today!

Broken Arrow Beauty College has some new and exciting changes happening that we want to share! The school will be consolidating campuses. Our Broken Arrow campus will be consolidated into our Tulsa campus. We have some answers to some questions you may have regarding this important change to the school:

When Will This Change Happen?

The official consolidation of the school is scheduled to take place on [date]. Some transitional changes may occur before, after, and on that day. We will provide more information as we proceed!

Will The School Still Be Called ‘Broken Arrow’ Beauty College?”

Yes, absolutely! Broken Arrow Beauty College (BABC) has been in the Broken Arrow community for over 50 years since it was first founded there. The physical BABC location will be closed as we merge the BABC name with our current location in Tulsa, named the Cosmetology Education Center (CEC). The Broken Arrow community is an important part of who were are and even though the school will no longer be located there, it’s important to take our history and legacy with us no matter where the school may go!

How Will Program Options Change?

The beauty programs will remain unchanged! We will still be offering our basic cosmetology, manicurist, esthetician, and master instructor courses. We want this transition to be as smooth as possible so our students can continue their educational journey with as little disruption as possible!

Will Financial Aid Change?

The good news is that financial aid and all of our other student services will remain unchanged. Students who qualify for financial aid will still be able to apply for it just as they always have. Additionally, our student support services, such as career assistance and transfers, will remain unchanged.

Will Salon Services Be Affected?

Our student salon will continue to offer the same services it always has. Obviously this campus consolidation means that clients from the Broken Arrow campus may need to travel to Tulsa if they want to stay with the student cosmetologist they’ve been working with, but they will be able to offer all of the same services.

We Are Grateful

We want to give our sincerest thanks to everyone who has supported Broken Arrow Beauty College along the way. A business can’t stay open for over 50 years without the help and support of many people. We’re grateful to everyone who has helped to make our success and the success of our students possible, and we look forward to training tomorrow’s best beauty professionals.

Visit the Tulsa campus page to learn more about where our students will all be located.

Fall is in full swing and we are loving the changes it brings. The temperature is finally dropping and that means it’s time to let your hair down and wear all those sweaters you’ve been dying to show off. Unfortunately, the cooler temperatures also mean dry and cracked skin if you neglect to care for your it. The last few months of the year are stressful enough and you shouldn’t have to add one more worry to the list. Here are seven things you can do to protect your skin against the cold weather.

Lower the Shower Temperature

After being in the cold you might want to come home and steam up those mirrors with a hot shower. We are just as sad as you are, but you’ll have to refrain that temptation for the sake of your skin. Taking a hot shower can strip you of natural oils that keep your skin from getting dry. To prevent dry and itchy skin, try to lower the water to a warm or lukewarm temperature to help your skin stay moisturized.

Moisturize

So you’ve just finished your warm shower and you’re wondering what else you can do for your skin. We’ve got one word for you: moisturize! Your skin can be fussy and we know it’s a lot of work to care for, but believe us when we say that this is something you won’t want to skip out on. Moisturized skin is what we all aim for and picking the right moisturizer can be your gateway to discovering just how beautiful your skin can be during the colder months. Ask an esthetician if you’re unsure which moisturizer products will work best for your skin.

Looking for a cheap and easy way to moisturize your skin? Food facials help care for your skin, not to mention they’re delicious. In addition to moisturizing, food facials can also remove dead skin cells, prevent wrinkles, and much more!

Apply Sunscreen

This can seem a bit silly and it might even make you long for those summer days, but applying sunscreen is important for your skin even during the cold months. The sun is still damaging to your skin and it can be even more harmful when snow comes later this year because of the sun glaring off it. The sun can damage and age your skin year-round, so keep applying that sunscreen. Trust us, this investment in protecting your skin will all be worth it when your skin is looking beautiful and healthy when spring comes along.

Keep Hydrated

This is another one that people usually associate with summer. You might not feel like you need to drink water as much in the colder seasons. This is not true! Remember, drinking water is important no matter the time of year. Your body might not be signaling the need to drink as much, but the benefits of water don’t go away during the cold months. Water can help hydrate your skin and this becomes even more important during the next few months with the cold air. So be prepared to keep up your daily intake of eight glasses of water.

Get a Humidifier

Let’s face it, your skin has it rough during these next few months. The cold temperature means the air gets drier, which can be bad news for your skin. No one wants to suffer through dry skin and chapped lips during the holiday season, but that might be what happens if your skin isn’t getting enough moisture. Your skin does a lot for you and deserves to have a break from the harsh winds of outside. It’s great for you and your skin to escape the dry air by going in your house, but you might want to take that one step further and invest in a humidifier. It can help keep your skin moisturized and looking beautiful. So cozy up to your humidifier with a mug of hot chocolate and relax knowing that your skin is getting the royal treatment.

Layer Up The Right Way

We all know that it’s important to layer up when it’s cold. The right coat and scarf can help protect your face against the cold air. We’ve already mentioned how the cold wind can lead to dry and cracked skin, but the material of your clothing can make a big difference too. To avoid red and irritated skin, it’s better that you wear materials like cotton as opposed to wool. We love our big wooly sweaters as much as anyone, but the rough material rubbing against you is not what your skin wants or deserves.

Treat Yourself

Taking care of your skin is hard work! It can be difficult making sure you’re doing everything right to keep your beautiful skin glowing even during the harshest conditions. Let someone else care for you and get that facial you’ve been thinking about booking. You deserve it after all this hard work. A facial is a great way to make sure that your skin is getting properly moisturized.
At Broken Arrow Beauty College and Cosmetology Education Center, our student salon* offers a variety of facial services to help your skin get the treatment it deserves.

Do You Love Skin Care?

Do you love caring for your skin? Do you have a passion for helping others feel beautiful? You might want to consider enrolling in our esthetics program where you will learn skin care and much more! Contact us to find out more about our programs.

Are you a licensed beauty professional who is looking to amp up your education? To bolster your beauty business? Our new affiliate partnership with the National American University (NAU) might be the perfect opportunity to help you to reach your beauty business goals. This is a very special affiliate program where you can receive tuition savings and have the beauty school credits you’ve already earned applied toward your associates or even a masters degree from NAU. Learn more about how this new program can benefit you and your beauty career goals below.

The NAU Affiliate Program Opportunity Explained

As an affiliate institution, NAU is offering Broken Arrow Beauty College (BABC) and Cosmetology Education Center (CEC) students and graduates the ability to save on the cost of tuition and have their beauty school credits applied toward a NAU degree. While anyone who has beauty school experience and is licensed in the state of Oklahoma is eligible, our articulation agreement with NAU provides strict standards and exclusive benefits for those who enroll after attending BABC or CEC.

You can select from several beauty business degree options, such as an associate of applied science degree (A.A.S.) in their Health and Beauty Management program. You can also choose to earn your bachelor’s of science (BS) or even a master’s degree in Management, too. Each of these options allow you to take courses focused on how to build, run, and succeed in your beauty business.

Graduates from each of the beauty programs at BABC and CEC are eligible: cosmetology, esthetics, master instructor and manicurist. The beauty of this continued education option is you you can go beyond the vocational training of beauty and focus on learning the business side of your beauty industry goals. Supplement your vocational beauty school training with further education to receive an understanding of small business management, development, and accounting skills crucial to running a successful business of your own.

Who is National American University?

National American University was established in 1941, with campuses in ten states and offering over 60 online courses. They are a well-known post-secondary school, accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, who offers a variety of programs designed for students straight out of high school or with real-world experience alike. Beginning with a passion for helping women join and succeed in the workforce, NAU has been educating men and women for over 70 years. We believe that partnering with them allows us to provide a unique opportunity for our licensed graduates with full confidence in NAU’s Health and Beauty Management degree program.

According to their catalog, here’s what they have to say about this one-of-a-kind program:

”The Health and Beauty Management program prepares the licensed cosmetologist to own or operate a beauty parlor, salon or spa or to manage his or her own booth. With this degree you will be able to add business skills to your industry knowledge and experiences through a performance-based curriculum. The program will add business skills to students’ industry knowledge and experiences through studies in management, marketing, communication, and career management. Previous education and practical experiences will be integrated with knowledge and skills from the business field. Students will gain a fundamental knowledge of business development, operations, and management as it relates to the health and beauty industry.”

Benefits of the Program

What does this affiliate partnership program mean for you? It means that you can add focused business management education to the beauty program education you have already received from BABC or CEC. Depending on the degree you select and your course schedule, you can even earn your A.A.S in as little as 9 months!

You’ll be able to choose from a variety of classes in humanities, math, or behavioral sciences at NAU as well as take specific courses such as: Mastering Cosmetology Business, Interpersonal Professional Communication, Principles of Management, or Financial Accounting for Managers.

This partnership agreement also provides licensed BABC and CEC graduates with tuition savings that are hard to beat. Depending on the type of enrollment, tuition savings can be up to $620 per quarter (or $2,480 a year.) Financial aid is available to those who qualify; minimum credit requirements might apply.

Apply Beauty School Credits Toward Your Degree

If you decide to enroll in these beauty business related degree programs, NAU will apply a credit toward your credit hour total. The credits that you already earned in beauty school will actually be applied toward your credits at NAU! For example, if you enroll in their 90 hour A.A.S. degree course, they will apply 60 credit hours leaving you with only 30 hours to complete within their program. If you select to move on to the master’s program, your tuition reduction goes along with you. Plus, if you plan ahead and maximize this opportunity while earning your bachelor’s degree, you can even earn concurrent credits (dual credit hours) toward your master’s degree in Management. It’s an educational partnership gift that keeps on giving!

Are You Ready to Learn More?

If you dream of building a beauty empire or owning and operating a successful salon or spa one day, learning business management is a must! Continue your beauty education and learn how to build your business with NAU after you attend BABC or CEC. Build upon your beauty school education with this very special opportunity. A career in beauty has always been your dream. Cosmetology. Esthetics. Nails. You have felt the call since you were young, and as much as you try to pursue other paths, you know that a future in beauty is the only path for you.

Even though you know your calling, figuring out how to get there may be overwhelming. First things first: it all begins with education.

If you are needing to transfer beauty schools, or are looking for your perfect school for the first time, finding your match is important! Not only will it help you have a great experience, but it can also help you launch your future career just where you want it.
Here are our tips to help you find your perfect school:

Find Your Tribe

Yes, you are going to beauty school to get an education, but you are also going to be spending the next 8-13 months in the school you choose, surrounded by the same people. It’s important that you not only feel comfortable in your chosen school but that you wake up every day excited to go!

You want to go to school in a place that makes you feel less like a number, and more like a person. You want to go somewhere that is both challenging and fun, filled with people and teachers that fuel you and your creativity.

At Broken Arrow Beauty College and the Cosmetology Education Center, we strive to create an environment that promotes growth and fun in a seamless balance that can help build you into a successful beauty professional.

Here are some ways you can see if your potential schools fit this bill:

  • Take A Tour– This is the best way to determine the environment of a school – go see it for yourself!
  • Follow Them on Social Media– Want a true ‘behind-the-scenes’ look at your school of choice? Check them out online and see what they, or their students, are posting.
  • Attend a Public Event– Sometimes schools will have open houses or community days. These events can let you see the school in action, and even talk to current students.
Find Your Family

Attending a school that makes you feel comfortable is important, but finding a school that makes you feel at home could be the difference between a certificate and success!

After opening our doors in February 1969, Broken Arrow Beauty College has strived to do just that. Our dedication to our students has been passed on to families for generations; grandmothers, mothers, sons, and daughters have received their education from us.

When you find a school that feels like home, you can rest assured that the support and strength you will learn there can last for years to come.

Find Your Specialty

What do you want to do in your beauty career?

Chances are you already know the answer to this question, but if you don’t, identifying the path you want to take is going to be a big help in finding your perfect school.

Do you want to own your own salon? Or perhaps you want to find a future doing hair and makeup for movies? There are a ton of career options available to you, and you want to make sure you are getting an education that helps you reach them.

Here are some things to ask your potential schools to help you know if they are right for you:

  • What Programs are Offered?– If you want to be a cosmetologist you are going to need more than manicuring classes. Make sure your school offers the program you are looking for and start off on the right foot.
  • What Additional Resources Do They Have?– If you have a dream of opening your own salon, it could be helpful to attend a school that has marketing or business management classes included in the curriculum. We are proud to offer both at our facilities.
  • What Tools Are Offered?– If you are wanting to work at a medical spa you want to make sure that your school has the right set up to teach you that. How is their salon area? What technological advancements do they offer? You can find these out on a tour! Schedule your tour with us, here.

We have all had that one moment, that ah-ha ‘this is what my life is going to be’ moment.

Even if you may not have known that a career in beauty was your perfect match from the time you first picked up your moms curling iron, the pull of all things hair, makeup, and beauty has captured your soul. As a child or teenager you were obsessed with having the biggest and best. You saved babysitting money to purchase the polish and products that your parents refused to buy and spent far too much time in front of the bathroom mirror swallowed by a plume of Aquanet.

Beauty has always been in your blood.

Take a trip down memory lane and see where your passion all began.

Are you ready for all this nostalgia?

  1. Caboodles

    https://www.instagram.com/p/BikpYG0gqse/
You will forever remember the moment you bought your first caboodle. In fact, it may have been the moment that you realized your future lies in all things beautiful. You quickly filled every compartment with your butterfly clips, jeweled bobby pins, and glitter body spray and basked in the beauty of it all.

  2. Lip Smackers

    https://www.instagram.com/p/Bh0GLljgR9u/
No matter how old you were, you knew that your lips just weren’t kissable unless you were using Lip Smackers, specifically Dr. Pepper Lip Smackers. Face it, all the others were inferior.

Bonus Point!– Lip Smackers are one thing, but you knew you were playing the big time when you broke out your mood lipstick. It was the only way to show Mr. Perfect that you liked him, after all.

  3. Crimping Irons

Now that you have perfectly soft lips, it’s time to get the hair to match! Always the height of fashion, you had your trusty crimping iron always heated and ready. You knew just the right way to crimp and primp to get ready for that night roaming the mall.

Bonus Point! – Forget just crimping your hair, you had to get that look to stick. Aquanet was your best friend for this. And, let’s not get into the debate on if L.A. Looks or DEP was better!

  4. Banana Clips

Nothing is better to showcase your perfectly crimped hair than a banana clip, it keeps your hair up, stylish, and perfect. Even better, get yourself a zig-zag headband, I mean banana clips are like so last year and these new zig-zag bands are everywhere!

Bonus Point! – Just missed the banana clips and zigzag headbands? That’s okay, butterfly clips, headbands, and barrettes of all kind still count!

  5. Smells Like…

You can’t go anywhere without smelling your best, and Teen Spirit antiperspirant was your go to, but you weren’t about to stop there. Douse yourself in Electric Youth Perfume by Debbie Gibson or Maybelline Kissing Potion and get ready for the school dance, you can still smell the sweet – even years later!

Bonus Point! – Not to be outdone, you were always one to go a step further to help yourself really shine. Bring on the roll-on body glitter, in your favorite blueberry aroma. It went great with your perfume, and no one could miss you with that sparkle!

  6. One Last Thing..
