What do Austin celebrities like Matthew McConaughey, Bobby Bones and Taylor Kitsch have in common? They all love to give back. Whether they have their own charity or kick in to support a cause, you can count on these celebs to do their part.

By the way, have you checked out the Austin based dating app Swoovy? It helps connect good people by doing good. You can either view people who match your profile or find a volunteering event that would make a great first date. You can download at Swoovy.com and follow @getswoovy on Instagram.

These are the Austin celebrities who give back. Matthew McConaughey

Matthew McConaughey and his wife Camila established The Just Keep Livin Foundation as a way to encourage high school students to engage in healthy and helpful behaviors. The foundation focuses on four aspects: fitness, nutrition, service and wellness to teach kids to take care of themselves and others.

Additionally, McConaughey is one third of Mack, Jack & McConaughey (MJ&M), an organization he helms with ACM Award-winning recording artist Jack Ingram, and ESPN analyst and Texas coaching legend Mack Brown. Through this joint fundraising effort, the trio is committed to maximizing a return to the community, specifically benefiting organizations dedicated to children’s education, health and wellness. Since the two-day event launched in 2013, the nonprofit has given nearly $14 million dollars to charitable organizations.

In Paris we got to volunteer at our friend @jr and his wife’s amazing @refettorioparis. They created a 5 STAR RESTAURANT TO SERVE FREE DAILY MEALS TO REFUGEES AND HOMELESS. I have never seen anything like it! For instance when guests arrive someone checks their coat, they have beautiful dishware, the room looks like it’s from a movie, the meals are cooked by Michelin Star chefs, and the list goes on and on!! They bring a dignified experience to guests (refugees and homeless) that’s been lacking for many of them for a long time! Everyone at @refettorioparis puts their best self and best being forward to be a part of this experience! They also source all their produce from places that would have thrown the food away!! I don’t know why we can’t do that in the states?! If you are in Paris, you must try to volunteer and donate!! #paris #refettorio #volunteer

Andy Roddick

Tennis superstar Andy Roddick started the Andy Roddick Foundation in 2000. Since then, the foundation has raised more than $20 million to help youth in low-income communities have abundant opportunities to reach their full potential. Through various programs, the organization creates new chances for children to grow in literacy, STEM, art and sports during months and times of day when statistics show they’re typically most at risk and falling behind.

Lance Armstrong

Though he resigned from the organization in 2012, Lance Armstrong is the founder of the Austin based nonprofit Livestrong anti-cancer foundation. And earlier this year, the former US cyclist and a seven-time Tour de France champion ran the Austin Marathon as the Charity Chaser. That role is designed to raise money for the race’s 28 official charities with each person passed on the course. Starting 22 minutes behind the field, Armstrong made his way through the packed course to finish 58th overall. He passed a total of 2,594 people, raising a total of $5,326.

Jared and Genevieve Padalecki

Jared Padalecki has been candid about his own struggles with depression. In 2015, Padalecki launched his Always Keep Fighting campaign through Represent.com. His first t-shirt campaign supported To Write Love On Her Arms, which helps people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury  and suicide. With the second campaign, Padalecki partnered with co-star Jensen Ackles to release a shirt featuring both of their faces. Over 70,000 shirts were sold with a third campaign selling 40,000 more shirts.

Jarpad and wife Gen also partnered with @randomactsorg (a charity formed by Padalecki’s co-star Misha Collins) to raise funds for Houston relief efforts following Hurricane Harvey.

Jensen and Danneel Ackles

In addition to joining forces with co-star Padalecki on his Always Keep Fighting efforts, Jensen Ackles raised funds for Houston relief efforts in 2017. Ackles’ wife, former One Tree Hill star Danneel Ackles, lead the charge for the Ackles family and their Family Business Beer Co. Very quickly, the group raised $50K from fans, which they matched and donated to Random Acts. They then upped the ante and, in the end, raised just under $500k!

Bobby Bones

Radio and TV personality Bobby Bones has raised millions of dollars with his band The Raging Idiots. According to their website, Bones and bandmate “Producer Eddie” have performed nearly 40 shows (though we’re betting that number has grown since the last site update), benefitting various charities.

He also contributes to and supports The Shop Forward, which has raised over $3,100,000 for a plethora of charities by selling items associated with a cause. Every product sold on The Shop Forward follows the mission of supporting programs and organizations that are effectively working to help others around the world.

On July 21, the Bobby Bones crew will be playing Celebrity Family Feud for the charity of their choice, which we can only assume is The Shop Forward.

Michael Dell

The Michael & Susan Dell Foundation was set up in 1999 with the couple raising funds primarily through investing the proceeds of sales of shares of Dell Inc. The organization is dedicated to transforming the lives of children living in urban poverty through improving their education, health and family economic stability. More than $650 million has been given to children’s issues and community initiatives in the United States, India, South Africa as of 2010. Today the foundation has over $466 million assets under management.

Vince Young

The Vincent Young Foundation was established by the former Longhorn and his mother, Felicia. Young was inspired to start the foundation because of his own experience overcoming life’s challenges while growing up in Houston. The Vincent Young Foundation is dedicated to improving the quality of life of underprivileged children with a special focus on promoting academic and athletic excellence.

Drew Brees

New Orleans Saints QB and Westlake grad Drew Brees founded the Brees Dream Foundation to improve the quality of life for cancer patients, and provide care, education and opportunities for children and families in need. Contributed more that $33M to charitable causes globally.

Willie Nelson

Though the singer contributes to numerous charities, his most well known cause is Farm Aid. Started as a benefit concert held in Illinois in 1985, Farm Aid raises money for family farmers in the US. The concert was originally organized by Willie, John Mellencamp and Neil Young. Dave Matthews also currently serves on the board of directors.

Taylor Kitsch

Austin transplant Taylor Kitsch’s ties to the African Children’s Choir date back to his FNL days when co-star Connie Britton convinced him to join her on an introductory tour of Kenya. His commitment intensified with his first feature The Bang Bang Club, in which Kitsch played real-life South African journalist Kevin Carter. In 2012, he made his filmmaking debut with a fundraising documentary about the Children’s Choir and its associated charity Music For Life. “It’s my number one charity, so it was a natural project,” Kitsch told Samaritanmag.com. Since then, he has hosted numerous fundraising events in Austin for the organization, most recently on New Years Eve 2017.

Rachael Ray

Technically, Rachael Ray does not hail from Austin, however the mayor did make her an honorary Austinite at SXSW in 2014. After Hurricane Harvey devastated the Houston area, Ray donated $1 million to help support various animal welfare organizations who are actively working in Texas and Louisiana to care for animals displaced by the storm.

In 2016, the chef, talk show host and animal lover shelled out $10K to Austin Pets Alive! as part of her annual Santa Paws campaign. Brooklyn Decker nominated the local animal rescue group. Other donations were made to animal organizations chosen by Texans Miranda Lambert and Tamron Hall.

Brooklyn Decker

In addition to nominating APA! for Ray’s campaign efforts and supporting hubby’s Andy Roddick foundation, Brooklyn Decker stepped up to help raise awareness for the Texas Diaper Bank, following Hurricane Harvey. The Grace & Frankie star shared donation info on her Instagram account so fans could do the same. She also encouraged Red Cross donations and shared Bobby Bones and crew’s Texas Forever t-shirt that benefitted relief efforts.

Justin Theroux

So, Justin Theroux is not technically an Austinite, but we’re officially naming him an honorary one. The star of HBO’s The Leftovers discovered APA! while shooting season two of the series in the Austin area in 2015. He first posted about the organization in 2016, pleading with his Insta followers to give this trio a good home.

View this post on Instagram

Meet GEORGE, LUCY, and ALEX! What a power trio. George is the sweetest white pitty I've met @austinpetsalive … Until I met LUCY. It makes me nuts that this stunning, grey eyed silver fox has yet to get a home. Same goes for Alex there bottom right… But Alex has a slightly tougher road ahead. This ten year young pup is very sick and looking for hospice to live out the rest of his life in the comfort that he deserves… The angelic staff I met today steered me right at him… Definitely an APA favorite. And don't be put off by their cut ears… They for sure didn't want them either. After a few minutes with these goofballs you'll see right past them. All three have had their adoption fees and medical expenses paid for, so for ZERO dollars you can add a whole lot more love to your life. #austinpetsalive #pitbullsofinstagram #pitbull #selenagomez #sookayselenahasnothingtodowiththisbutimsureshedbecoolwithitplusshehaslikeagazillionfollowersitsriddik #thatlasthashtagwillnevertrend #thanksselena

Then, in April 2017, Theroux went on Ellen to play the game “Hot Hands.” If he won, host Ellen Degeneres said Shutterfly would donate $10,000 to the charity of his choice. That charity just happened to be APA.

“Austin Pets Alive! [is] a wonderful organization in Austin, Texas that’s a no-kill shelter that I love and I used to go and pet their dogs when I was shooting in Austin, and they are great,” Theroux told Degeneres.

Since then, he’s posted and dropped in at the APA! numerous times.

Here’s a feel good story we love! The alternative band Sister Hazel members aren’t only rock stars, but they are animal rescuers too!

Last week, while traveling from Nashville to Florida, the band discovered six kittens trapped in the front of their tour bus.

Ken Block, lead singer and guitarist said it was “The CRAZIEST thing ever!”

The kittens were stuck under the band’s bus in the battery storage compartment for a total of 15 hours.

The kittens are now safe and sound and available for adoption! That’s right, you can take home the ultimate band souvenir. If you live near Ocala, FL, that is! The kittens are available for adoption at Melissa Bell’s Rescue.

If adopted , we complied this list of suggested names:

  • Hazel
  • Hazelnut
  • Nutella (Ella for short)
  • Roadie
  • Groupie
  • Hazel Head (as Melissa Bell’s Rescue refers to them)

Those who follow the band know that they are not strangers to philanthropy.

“Lyrics for Life” is a charity founded by Ken Block that takes proceeds from concerts and auctions for cancer research. The charity has quite an extensive list of artists who have contributed to the foundation over the years; from Paul McCartney, Kid Rock, Kiss, Lady Antebellum and John Mayer.

To find out more about “Lyrics for Life” and adopting one of those precious kittens from Melissa Bell’s Rescue visit their pages:

Thinking about binging a new true crime series? Set phasers to “that’s a little too close to home,” and get into Our Planet.

Set against an emotional score by Steven Price and narrated by everybody’s English grandpa Sir David Attenborough, Netflix’s first original nature documentary series explores the beauty of Earth’s ecosystems as they grapple Glow-style with global warming.

Our Planet | Official Trailer [HD] | Netflix - YouTube

Over 400,000 hours of footage, 6,000+ drone flights and 200 expeditions yield intimate and awe-inspiring moments with our animal friends who are surprisingly just like us. They choreograph a dance with friends to impress a potential mate (Blue Manakin birds, Episode 3: Jungles. Also me, in seventh grade). They brave extreme elements to seek shelter and hydration (Episode 5: From Deserts to Grasslands. Coachella 2013: From Sahara Tent to the Car). A scene with a baby flamingo shackled by salt-crusted leg warmers was all of the heartbreak that I needed to curl up into the fetal position and contemplate my consumer-driven existence.

If it seems like the majesty of the cinematography is laced with a sense of foreboding, the effect is intentional. Our Planet never lets you veer too far into transcendent territory before delivering the ugly truths about how the effects of climate change are fizzing away each precious habitat like Spider-Man at the end of Avengers: Infinity War. Really though.

“See that swinging orangutan? He’s gonna swing his way into extinction if ya’ll don’t quit harvesting that palm oil for your lip gloss.”

Producer Alastair Fothergill hopes that the Johnny-Raincloud-with-a-silver-lining tone of the series encourages audiences to take action.

“The key message of the film is that nature used to be a nice to have and now, it’s a must have,” Fothergill said.

To make like this timely Macy Gray reference and “get up, get out and do something,” producers have set up a website with more information on how you can get change your evil ways, baby: https://www.ourplanet.com/en/

All episodes of Netflix’s Emmy Award nominated series Our Planet are available to stream now.

Napoleon Dynamite is showing on the big screen all over the country and last night the tour made a stop at the Paramount and we were there!

I must say, this movie is a true classic because it still holds up. And I believe it always will.

In addition to seeing adult fans get into the spirit of the event, it was even more fun to see all the young fans who’ve embraced this film as well.

I mean, these girls are absolutely adorable, are they not?

And this family wins everything!

Following the screening, there was a conversation With Jon Heder (Napoleon), Efren Ramirez (Pedro) and Jon Gries (Uncle Rico). Even after all these years, it’s still amusing to me to see how people react to Jon Heder. It seems everyone expects him to actually look like the character at all times.

If the film screens in a theater near you and you’re wondering if you should ante up and see it again, I have two words for you. Heck yes!

As if the Luck Reunion isn’t cool enough (Not familiar? Read about it here), the Rolling Roadshow and Luck Productions have joined forces to present Luck Cinema out at the ranch owned by the one and only Willie Nelson.

They kicked off the series with a screening of Red Headed Stranger smack dab in the middle of the original film set. Willie was there and so was ATXgossip!

Many of you may know Willie Nelson as an American songwriter and guitarist. However, over here at ATX Gossip we like to think of him as the most patriotic Austinite!

Nelson is both a black belt and a cowboy, and well into his mid 80s he’s still going strong as a music artist. With over 300 songs, Nelson is one of the most widely known country singers in the music industry.

But what makes Willie Nelson so patriotic you ask? We’ll tell you!

Rumor has it that Willie Nelson once smoked marijuana with former U.S. President Jimmy Carter’s son on the roof of the White House! In September of 1980, Nelson was invited to the White House to perform a duet with then-First Lady Rosalynn Carter. In his 1988 autobiography Nelson wrote of how he wandered up to the roof of the White House “with a beer in one hand and a fat Austin Torpedo in the other.” He explained how he was on the roof with a friend who’s since been confirmed as James Earl Carter III. Now how’s that for gossip?!

Other than Nelson’s White House escapades he also happens to host a family friendly picnic on the 4th of July! This year will be his 5th annual 4th of July Picnic hosted at Circuit of the Americas’ Austin360 Amphitheater (though the event dates back to 1973!). This year’s party not only features our favorite outlaw but also includes performances from Luke Combs, Nathaniel Rateliff, Alison Krauss and more.

The picnic performances start at 11:30 a.m. and last all day long with a firework show to end the night. Food and drink options are available for purchase and water is FREE with bottle refill stations located throughout the grounds.

So whether you’re a fan of country, a fan of Willie, or even just a fan of being an American, this event caters to everyone.

Tickets start at $45 and are still available. You can purchase yours and learn more about the event here.

What better place to celebrate Independence Day than in the company of Willie Nelson, our pick for the most patriotic Austinite.

Want more Willie? Check out our preview of Willie’s new album “Ride Me Back Home.”

When Rob Thomas, Jason Dohring, Percy Daggs III, and Enrico Colantoni first agreed to do a Veronica Mars panel at ATX Television Festival, we’re betting they did not expect the scream heard around the world. Okay, fine, the scream heard around the Paramount Theater.

Before the panelist graced us with their presence they first honored us with a sneak peak of the series’ upcoming return to Hulu. Mere second in, it felt like rediscovering an old song you used to love and finding it more relatable than ever. The first scene closes in on a conversation between Veronica and Keith and the mention of the ‘L’ word. Dare I say it? LOGAN! A girl in the audience gave the shrillest, swooniest scream I’ve ever witnessed in my life. To be honest, I probably would not have faulted her outburst had she waited a few seconds longer to actually witness the man himself coming out of the ocean in a pair of tiny swim trunks and a surfboard. Sorry for objectifying you Jason Dohring and Jason Dohrings’ wife! Blame Rob Thomas.

Speaking of Rob, the Austin native revealed that Veronica Mars was originally going to be a book about a teenage boy. And even more interesting:

Veronica Mars was going to be based off our very own Westlake High School where Rob was actually a teacher before moving out to LA.

He claimed that spending so much time around teenage girls helped him get into the mindset of writing for Veronica Mars. Lucky for us Marshmallows the whole boy thing didn’t work out. It’s hard to imagine Neptune without Veronica Mars and it’s hard to imagine Veronica Mars without Kristen Bell. Vince Mars, doesn’t quite have the same ring to it.

Veronica Mars just won’t die. They’ve created something that lives and breathes and it’s been such an experience to watch it progress. The first season of Veronica Mars aired in September of 2004. Yep, you read that correctly. I said 2004. The show was canceled in 2007 after just three seasons.

So here we were, us Marshmallows, mourning the loss of our beloved series. Little did we know that all we had to do was wait just seven short years.

In March of 2013 Kristen Bell and Rob Thomas started a Kickstarter to get Veronica Mars made into a movie. I suppose they too were unhappy with how things ended due to the cancelation. The Kickstarter goal was $2 million dollars. They ended up raising $5,702,153 by the end of the campaign. And guess what? They made a movie, which happened to make its world premiere at SXSW 2014.

In 2014 they also attempted to make a mini web series on CW Seed staring Ryan Hansen and his stupid but lovable character Dick Casablancas. The web series included appearances by almost all of the original cast. So, we all thought that was it: the Kickstarter movie was the closure to the Veronica Mars universe that we never got!

Then, just last year, Hulu decided to do us all a solid and announced that we get to spend spring break in Neptune for an eight episode series steaming in its entirety on July 26.

BUT WAIT THERE’S MORE!

During the ATX Television Festival Rob Thomas announced that throughout July, all three original seasons of Veronica Mars will stream on Hulu. Hulu, the gift that keeps on giving!

So there you have it Marshmallows. You have 25 glorious days to watch and rewatch, then rewatch and analyze every second of the original series before the new episodes come out on July 26.

If you don’t get my marshmallow reference then you also have 25 days to devour every second of the original series. Better get on it!

If you are a die hard marshmallow, we invite you to come back here after the 26th and let us know what you think about the new series.

And finally, if you’re a marshmallow in the making, stop what you’re doing and go watch! Take advantage of the four day weekend.

Happy Fourth of July from the ATX Gossip gals!

Before the ATX Television Festival, we listed the five things we were most looking forward to. Now, we’re talking about the five best things we saw/ did/ experienced at the fest.

You already heard from Sofia, who experienced her very first fest. Second timer Lola also shared her experience. Now, it’s time to hear from the vet, who’s been attending the festival off and on since season one.

Dani’s Five Favorite Things
  • Listening to Cole Hauser Fawn Over Matthew McConaughey

During our interview with Matthew McConaughey’s Dazed and Confused co-star, Hauser mused about his time in Austin and went on and on about his best pal. Honestly, I thought it seemed a little much. Like, sure, you’re friends but besties? Well, I sure was proven wrong when Wooderson himself showed up the the Yellowstone afterparty, which was followed by the two buds going rogue from Hauser’s publicist and wandering through the streets of downtown Austin.

  • Hearing Alright, Alright, Alright, Over and Over and Over

Speaking of McConaughey, we asked every person we interviewed which phrase they like better: Texas Forever or Alright Alright Alright. Every single person picked the later. Can’t wait to string those all together in one epic video. We really didn’t ask just to hear everyone utter the phrase. Honestly. We thought some would say “Texas forever.” But we’re guessing Kevin Bacon knew what we would ultimately end up doing with all the answers because he slyly replied, “I’ll go with Matthew on this one.”

  • Snagging All the Photo Booth Pics from the Showtime Party

At many of the official parties there were photo booths offering themed photos. The one at the Showtime party required you to email or text the photo to yourself. I couldn’t help but notice that the Roswell gang and Kevin Bacon and his City on a Hill crew had stepped into the booth prior to me. So I sent those to myself as well. Here they are for your viewing pleasure.

  • Chatting with the Fear The Walking Dead Cast

As y’all probably know, I’m a fan of Fear the Walking Dead. I love following the adventures of the cast via their Instagram accounts, and even checking out some of the filming locations around town. But this was the first time I got to sit down and chat with cast members. Lennie James and new cast addition Karen David are delightful.  Maggie Grace is so sweet and soft spoken. And Alexa Nisenson is a doll. It also just so happened to be Alexa’s 13th birthday, though she’s much more composed that most girls her age and wise beyond her years.

  • Watching the Younger Premiere

It will be hard to top the season 7 Younger panel as almost the entire cast attended. Though since that is my favorite summer series, I’m happy to have any kind of Younger presence at the fest. This year, Debi Mazar made an appearance following a screening of the season premiere, which wouldn’t air for the public until the following week. Seeing Debi again was great but I was even more thrilled to watch the much anticipated episode in a room full of other die-hard fans. We laughed together, we gasped together and we cried together. Oh, wait, was that just me? Yes, I am 100% positive I’m the only one who cried happy tears during the 9 to 5 scene. It just made me so happy!

I was recently asked which is my favorite Austin festival. While SXSW is always a super fun time, this event ranks right up there as my other fave. The ATX Television Festival is a keen reflection of what Austin is: a place where nobody is too cool and everybody is cool enough (I got that from Matthew McConaughey, who was actually quoting one of his pals when he said it). From crossing paths with seasoned celebs, to chatting with up-and-comers, and connecting with so many fellow TV fanatics, this is one production you do not want to miss. In fact, we’re already counting down to next year!

We hope to see YOU at ATX Television Festival Season 9, happening June 4 through 7, 2020.

Before the ATX Television Festival, we listed the five things we were most looking forward to. Now, we’re talking about the five best things we saw/ did/ experienced at the fest.

Next up is Lola.

Lola’s Five Favorite Things

This was only my second season at ATX TV Festival. It’s a combination of some of my favorite things; ATX, TV and people who love TV. What I really love about this festival is that it doesn’t take over the city like SXSW or ACL does. It’s a very intimate festival. A festival where you can have these crazy once in a lifetime experiences that you might not get anywhere else! Here are a few of mine from season 8.

  • Chilling In The Badge Holder Lounge

Sitting in the badge holders lounge you’ll see and meet a lot of very interesting people. But I can’t say that anyone could top Luis and Cemi Guzman. The father and son duo, who were there to promote Perpetual Grace, were easily the coolest people in the room at any given time. While we were casually chatting with them, my necklace charm happen to break off. Cemi saw me trying (struggling) to fix it and took it upon himself to accept the challenge. So I sat there and watched him carry on a conversation while attempting to fix my necklace (there were teeth involved). In the end he succeeded! Thanks, Cemi!

  • Hanging with Luis Guzman

So number one was all about Cemi, but let’s talk about Luis. The man is just cool, that’s the start and end of the story. He’s one of those actors where you know his face because he’s been in so much but when you meet him you’d never guess the life he’s lead in the industry. That’s because his at home, everyday life is just as interesting. We hung out with him on a few different occasions during the festival but the night we ended up on the karaoke stage singing and dancing to “I Like it Like That” takes the cake. And here’s a fun fact: Luis Guzman makes his own maple syrup! Told you he was cool.

  • Making Eye Contact With Eric Dane

When Eric Dane, formerly known as McSteamy, looks you in the eyes and says he should just get out of his contract with HBO and come to Austin to join the cast of the Fear of the Walking Dead, you nod your head vigorously of course. Unfortunately, he was joking since he was on the red carpet promoting his new HBO series Euphoria at the time. A girl can dream though.

  • Talking It Up With Fred Armisen

This had to be my favorite interaction just because of how kind and humble Fred Armisen is. Also, he couldn’t remember the name of the movie we were talking about that he was in and I had to remind him (Band Aid). Like I mentioned earlier, what I love most about ATX Fest is how intimate it is. None of the talent/ celebrities feel the need to coop up in the VIP lounge or have excess security. That said, I never expected to have a one-on-one conversation with Fred at the Los Espookys party. He is actually who inspired my ATX TV Fest polaroid series. When I originally asked him if I could take a picture, he asked if I wanted to jump in. and was surprised when I said no. He wanted to see my mini Polaroid immediately but it hadn’t yet developed. So he demanded I show him the others that were hiding behind my festival badge. He loved them all and even went on to draw a fun little picture on the one of him!

  • Feeling the Presence of Matthew McConaughey

Listen, who doesn’t love some Mathew McConaughey, especially if you’re from Austin? The local and international star showed up at the festival’s lounge party for Yellowstone, starring his good friend Cole Hauser. We walked in not knowing he was there but we could feel the room buzzing more than usual. Turns out that buzz was McConaughey. Later, as he was leaving, I happened to be heading out at the exact same time. I had called a Lyft and was waiting outside trying to spot it when I looked up right into McConaughey’s dreamy blue eyes. He smirked and said, ‘Hi, darlin” and then took off into the night leaving me swooning. That is until my phone rang. My Lyft had arrived and the moment was gone.

These are just a few of my favorite experiences as some I cannot disclose due to the amount of adult beverages that were consumed. The festival is referred to as summer camp for adults who love TV. Well, I can’t fully validate that due to the fact that I never went to summer camp as a child. I never thought I was missing out… until ATX Television Festival! My parents have some serious explaining to do!

Check out what Sofia listed as her favorite moments here.

And what our fearless leader had to say about the fest here.

Before the ATX Television Festival, we listed the five things we were most looking forward to. Now, we’re talking about the five best things we saw/ did/ experienced at the fest.

Let’s start with Sofia, who was a festival first timer.

Sofia’s Five Favorite Things

This year’s ATX Television Festival was my first and may I just say, WOW! With so many events happening at once you could definitely feel the TV buzz throughout the city each day. There were so many things about the TV Fest that I enjoyed, but here are my top five.

  • Having a Casual Conversation with THE James Lafferty and Steven Colletti

Being that One Tree Hill was some pretty hot stuff, I figured the line for the screening of Everyone Is Doing Great would be pretty colossal! So, I got to the screening a bit early. As suspected, the line was long but I was lucky enough to get in early. About five or so minutes after walking in, I spot the men of the hour, Stephen and James; and yes, they’re even more attractive in person.

After wandering around for a minute, they settled in the lobby. Since they were kind of just waiting around, I looked at James and said, “They didn’t have a room for you guys?” and he replied with, “I don’t know, we heard there was coffee.” PRIORITIES, people! That’s a real man! Stephen joined us and we proceeded to have small talk about the weather and whatnot until we were interrupted by a fan asking for a picture. Overall, this was probably my most favorite encounter at the festival!

  • Being Called Out By Cierra Ramirez

I had the pleasure of attending the screening and Q&A for Freeform’s The Fosters spin-off Good Trouble. When it came time for the Q&A, my hand was one of the first up but, unfortunately, I was never called on by the moderator. When it came down to the last question for the panel, Cierra stopped the moderator, gesturing towards me, “Her hands been up since the beginning, I think you should choose her.” I was then able to ask my question. It was a small thing but it was nice to be noticed by someone you look up to and whose work you enjoy.

To put the cherry on top, myself and the rest of the ATXgossip team went to interview the cast of Good Trouble later that afternoon and she remembered me. So I would say that was a pretty flattering experience.

  • Working The Red Carpet

Out of all the boujee events I’ve been to (I previously worked events in LA), I’ve never once attended a red carpet. However, the opening night of the fest was the night! As the stars lined up for interviews and picture ops, I quietly stood behind the stanchions with the rest of the press awaiting my turn to interview the stars. Although I acted as the cameraman, it was truly an honor to be at the carpet and to speak with some of Hollywood’s best up-and-coming TV show actors.

  • Smelling The McSteamy

Unfortunately the red carpet did run a little late which conflicted with the opening night screening of Euphoria. I wanted to attend the screening so I left the carpet to head to the Paramount.

When I arrived, there wasn’t much seating left besides two chairs behind a row of seats taped with white HBO “reserved” papers. I asked the usher who those seats were for and she replied, “Oh, just some HBO executives.” I gave it no further thought. About five minutes later, I look up to find Zendaya standing right next to me waiting to be seated at, you guessed it, the row of seats taped with the white HBO “reserved” papers.

She was followed by the rest of her cast which included, much to my pleasure, Eric Dane who sat right in front of me! He was so close that I could smell his cologne and may I just say, those Mahogany Teakwood Bath and Body Works candles DO. NOT. LIE. So for all of those wondering, you can stop scouring the web for what McSteamy smells like. Let me tell you, the musk was real.

  • Having The Interviews

In addition to the red carpet, I had the pleasure of getting to sit down and chat with producers Michelle Lang and Ngoc Nguyen of Everyone Is Doing Great. We spoke about all things ATX related and, at the end of our interviews, I asked both of them what advice they’d give to anyone trying the ‘make it’ in the entertainment business. Their responses knocked it out of the park (you’ll have to stay tuned on ATXgossip for those interviews)! It was very inspiring to get up close and personal with two very successful people who are working on a show that I have so deeply fallen in love with. I can’t wait for all of our ATX readers to hear what they had to say.

And there you have it! A first timer’s experience at the ATX Television Festival.
