Red is a powerful colour and one we turn to when our look needs a little something extra- be it a striking red dress, pop of lippy or a sexy shoe, never estimate how a hint of red can lift your spirits and add a little va-va-voom to your outfit.

During the summer months instead of forgoing our style staple, the blazer, we update it and opt for a lighter version. Lou recently invested in a linen Blazé Milano, our ultimate blazer brand; it looks great with jeans and equally as good over a summer dress. An excellent cut beige blazer is a great piece to have to hand during the summer- it will instantly make a  dress work in the city or smarten up jeans and a simple white tee. I love to play with proportions when teaming an oversized blazer with a dress, click here to see some more style inspiration on how to make the summer blazer work for you this season.

Jeans and Tee is a combo we wear most days, our go-to failsafe look, so we do invest our money in them. We bought these oversized Balenciaga tees a few weeks ago and have already accumulated a pretty reasonable cost per wear; we even both turned up to a meeting last week wearing them. Although pricey, when you can wear them to a meeting, to dinner or chilling at the weekend, we see it as an investment. We’ve always loved an interesting Tee- be it a bright colour, cool slogan or tye-dye; when your staple outfit consists of Denim Jeans and a Blazer, it’s nice to add some interest with your Tee and add a twist to a classic look. It’s a great way to buy into designers too, every designer from Gucci to Saint Laurent has an impressive t-shirt selection, and every season, more and more designers get on board with the trend. It may be the last thing you want to spend so much money on, but for us, it’s a great way to elevate an outfit.

I loved the dad trainer from the start and hunted down the Balenciaga Triple S and still wear them to death over a year later (many predicted this trend wouldn’t last) but the dad sandal, I took a little convincing. Yes, I admired the Chanel Leather Sandals and thought they looked great, but would I shell out that sort of cash on a chunky sandal that could quickly become a distant fashion memory? Same with the sell-out Prada leather-trimmed sandal- not even the blush pink and red combo could convince me that these are a flattering option. However, last week while browsing matchesfashion.com I came across ‘Arizona Love‘, a dad sandal I can finally get on board with. At £100, although not cheap, a hell of a lot more purse friendly than Chanel. With Leopard Print, Shells and Vintage Bandana prints they add a little something to a simple summer dress and not to mention they are super comfortable. An unlikely trend that is functional as well as fashionable- I’m now a dad sandal convert. I’ll be wearing mine with pretty dresses & cropped jeans & a tee all summer long.

Last week I attended a dinner to celebrate the store opening of Free People on the Kings Road. Free People is exactly what we want to wear when the weather warms up- whether you’re jetting off to the beach or enjoying summer in the city, head to FP if you’re looking for Free-Spirited, bohemian pieces- think floaty dresses, beach to bar kaftans and a selection of vintage-inspired band tee’s. The addition of the new stores in London (Covent Garden & Kings Road) will be a game changer for the brand; Already having a huge presence in the US, the Free People movement is now making its mark in the UK, and we’re thrilled about it.

This summer, there are some stand-out cult brands to know. Brands who’s USP is to design pretty smock dresses and separates that will take you effortlessly from beach to bar. Brands who’s price point is within reach, yet still, work hard for you all season long. Brands that look just as cool in the city as they do in Ibiza.

Lou & Em’s Cult Summer brands…

Dôen…

A collection of romantic dresses and blouses that have already been a sell-out hit when they launched exclusively in the UK with net-a-porter. Think laid-back Californian cool.

Sleeper…

Sleepwear as daywear is something we’ve been championing for a while, I mean we all like to be comfy right? Sleeper gets the balance just right with a collection of easy to throw on dresses that look as good worn out the house as they do in it.

Reformation…

Another brand sold exclusively in the UK via net-a-porter. Reformation has been my go-to summer brand for years. Stylish, eco-friendly dresses that can double up as the perfect wedding guest outfit.

We’re on the home stretch now with our house renovation, and we’ve made all of the major decisions (yes, my head is spinning). One last thing to plan is our wardrobe space. I’m so excited to be designing a walk-in-wardrobe, and have been pinning some of my favourite designs and drooling over some incredible wardrobes (Sex & the City anyone?). Of course, SJP’s iconic ‘Carrie’ closet is to die for as is Anine Bing’s Chanel Bag storage cabinet. A great route to go down if you have space and want to create a smart storage solution is the IKEA Pax system; I have taken a lot of ideas from the incredible post on Erin Kestenbaum.com; super inspiring and clever hacks to customise the Ikea Pax system, making it unique. A bold colour is what I’m going to go for, the front runner at the moment is Inchrya Blue by Farrow & Ball. And if you need any help on how to display your bags/shoes/jewellery, my go-to is the coveteur.com, for the dreamiest and most stylish closet ideas.

Last month I was introduced to Kora Organics, a certified organic and natural beauty range. Space NK launched the collection here in the UK, and to celebrate its launch, founder Miranda Kerr hosted a breakfast and spoke passionately about the award-winning brand. Kerr has always believed in the healing power or Noni Juice, and so this became the hero ingredient, along with rosehip oil, sea buckthorn oil and green tea- powerful; High-performing results through nourishing formulas. I’ve been using the products on my sensitive skin over the past few weeks and loving the results.

I’ve been using the Tumeric Brightening and Exfolitang mask when my skin feels a bit dull. The perfect pick-me-up to give skin back it’s glow.

I’ve been loving the Noni Glow Body Oil, perfect to apply after a bath to leave skin healthy and hydrated. Also good to use when having a bit of skin on show, it’s lightweight and absorbs quickly but leaves a glowy sheen.
