Class 67 enjoy Graduation adulation

Class 67 used the concept of Rhythm as the inspiration for their Graduation Presentation, an inspirational and celebratory event which marks the group's transition from students to stylists. Using classic hair cutting, coloring and styling techniques in combination with their creative vision, the stylists fashioned hairstyles that are a testament to their talent, and to the quality of their education at our career-shaping beauty school.

At the outset of their program these students learned basics, like how to hold a comb; now they are accomplished in at all the skills of hairdressing, from classic scissor cutting to creative razor cutting, modern hair painting and fashion-forward styling.

"We have had the distinct pleasure of watching this very diverse group of students grow into such a strong creative class. Their eclectic nature provided them with a unique experiences to learn from different parts of our culture and within different generations. We are proud of their accomplishments and we look forward to welcoming some of you into our salon family and watching others as they begin their journey," says Joseph Guinto, lead educator for the class.

Student salon life: creative & inspiring.

The September to May academic calendar is followed all around the world, and dictates that most students –– whether studying history or hairdressing –– want to start their courses in the fall. Yet for future professional hairdressers, there are many surprising benefits to beginning your journey in spring / summer. Peek at our at-a-glance guide below.

That Personalized Boutique-School Feeling

ARROJO Cosmetology School offers a unique commitment to the quality of your education: A maximum of 16 students per educator. Nevertheless, with often as many as six classes starting in September-October, it’s easy to get lost in the crowd. There are only two or three enrollment dates in spring / summer, making you and your classmates the center of attention.

Graduate at the Most Lucrative Time of Year for Stylists

Start our cosmetology program in the spring and you can be a professional by the Christmas Holidays. The Holidays are the busiest and most lucrative time of the year for hairdressers, giving you a great chance to earn some quick cash after seven months in school.

First Up for Job Opportunities

70-80% of cosmetology students start in September, which means they all graduate at the same time, which in turn means they will be looking for job opportunities at the same time, making the market more competitive. Start your program in spring / summer and graduate with less competition for careers placements.

Summer in the City

Summer in New York City. It’s hot, it’s glam, and it can be your playground.

Fall Fashion Week

With ARROJO’s connection to the fashion industry, our students are often invited to style hair for designers at New York Fashion Week. Enroll in spring / summer for the chance to be a part of the most iconic fashion week of them all: New York’s Autumn / Winter season.

Great for Career-Changers

While high school graduates line up for the September classes, for those that are coming to cosmetology school as a second career, starting school in spring / summer allows you to avoid the rush. Indeed, spring and summer start dates are most popular with mature students.

Olga attended ARROJO Cosmetology School & is now a successful stylist & educator at ARROJO SoHo

ARROJO Cosmetology Schoo alumni stories offer the chance to catch up with our graduates. Here we chat to Olga Vapnyar, a student who came to us ready to embark on her second career, and is now one of NYC’s most desirable hair stylists.

How did you become interested in the beauty industry?

I embraced the beauty industry as a second career. After not finding the job fulfillment I was looking for, I thought becoming a hairstylist would allow me to express my creativity, make people feel great, and develop a lasting, rewarding career for myself.

Why did you choose ARROJO Cosmetology School?

I knew that Arrojo had a great reputation. From the moment I walked into the Arrojo Cosmetology School facility, I knew that the education and environment offered there were bar non. I couldn't envision going anywhere else.

Is there anything that stands out in your mind about your experience here?

I remember the educators being very knowledgeable and supportive. The special friendships I built with my classmates. Great training for the state board. And bringing models/taking clients at different stages of my education offered great incite to my future apprenticeship and career.

What is your favorite new skill?

While I love working with all sorts of textures, creating beautiful shapes out of my fellow curly girls' hair always gives me a great satisfaction.

Any advice you can share with current or prospective students?

I would advise students to not be afraid to go after what they want. The journey won't always be easy but it will definitely make you better and stronger in the long run.

What did you do after graduation, and where are you working now?

After graduation, I was fortunate enough to attain a cut apprenticeship with Arrojo Studio and am proud to say I've been with the salon for 7+ years, currently working there as a Top level stylist and educator.

To begin your own journey as a stylist, please email madeleine@arrojonyc.com.

In the city that never sleeps, there is a renaissance of that much-loved old neighborhood standby: the barbershop. Authentic-looking barbershops –– done up with antique fixtures and fittings, vintage barbering chairs, and a bottle of bourbon on the counter –– are popping up all over the five boroughs, ushering in, with a Johnny Cash soundtrack, a new era of gentlemanly fashions. Ahead of the curve, ARROJO’s new collection, Control, is a bespoke example of modern men’s grooming.

“Control highlights the elevated barbering techniques that we champion and that will keep the craft fashionable for years to come,” says Paul Merritt, ARROJO Master Stylist and Cosmetology School and Barbering Academy Creative Director who conceptualized the Control collection at Nick Arrojo’s request.

Continues Paul: “Combining elevated barbering skills with many of the classic and creative trends and techniques that ARROJO is already renowned for, like texture and taper and freehand cutting, the Control collection was a means for us to push the envelope of modern men’s grooming.”

With the new barbering licensing curriculum now into its second year, Control’s sharp, square and lean shapes give bite to the brand’s entry into the men’s grooming market.

“Right now everyone is enjoying the barbering revival, says Nick Arrojo. “But like any industry, maintaining lasting appeal depends on constant innovation. We want to inspire the next generation of barbers to be inventive thinkers, cutting-edge craftsmen, masters of creativity. Control is a statement of what we think is cool.”

See more images from the Control collection below. In 2019, there are four Barber Academy start dates: Feb 4, June 17, Aug 5, Nov 18. To learn more and/or arrange a school tour, please email madeleine@arrojonyc.com or call 646 979 2265 X 411.

After 8 months of hard work, Class 60 graduates with a top of the line model presentation surrounded by their loved ones. Their graduation theme was The Factory by Andy Warhol.

In 1963, Warhol attended a “haircutting party” that was decorated with tin foil, silver paint and broken mirrors, which inspired Warhol so much that he designed his NYC studio space just the same, thus The Factory was born. The Factory was the hip hangout for artistic types where many of his famous pieces of art were created.

Warhol’s affinity for the intersection of bohemian street style and hollywood glamour inspired our students to visualize their own models as pieces of visual art. Stunning asymmetrical bobs, razor lobs, and iridescent purple hues lined the TriBeCa Theater. Tears were flowing and sentiments of gratitude filled the room as Class 60 thanked their families & their ARROJO educators.

“It has been my absolute pleasure being your main educator,” says Main Educator Aisha Robley. I have been an educator for 15 years and you will be my most loved and memorable class in my career. I absolutely adore you all. Thank you for always, always being consistent. Thank you for being a strong positive team, a loving group of friends, my Beautiful school children. “

A big congratulations to Class 60! You’ll always have a home at ARROJO. We can’t wait to see where your future takes you.
