The only thing that helps me is getting into a routine where I do things at the same time every day and I make a meal time in between two daily activities. If my routine starts to slip or my sleeping pattern gets bad I stop eating and things gets rough.

adhdteacherthings:

I found out that I had ADHD in my first year of teaching. Everything about that year was overwhelming: organizing my classroom, planning ahead for lessons, staying focused on one thing at a time while teaching, remembering dates and items that I needed for a lesson, etc.

I had to take a teacher survey for a student of mine who was being tested for ADHD. The whole time I was filling it out I was thinking “oh same… haha, me too… wow, that’s me… wait, that too… wait, that too? Wait…”

So I scoured the internet for ADHD information, followed some ADHD blogs, and took some self diagnosis tests. I was honestly amazed that there was a disorder that described literally everything about me, and I didn’t even know it! The worst thing about it was that it was ADHD, a name I had heard in so many places and about so many KIDS, and I had no idea that it was what it actually was.

I eventually got diagnosed with moderate ADHD, and it was the most validating experience. But I wish that I had known when I was a kid, rather than finding out at 25. I wish I knew as a kid that there was a reason why I procrastinated and forgot everything, no matter how hard I tried. I wish I had known then that emotional dysregulation and RSD were symptoms rather than personality flaws.

Overall, I just wish that I had known sooner that I had ADHD. And I wish that it was common knowledge what ADHD even is - not just trouble with focusing or being hyperactive. It wouldn’t have made anything easier to know sooner, but I might have loved myself more if I had known before now.

Why I'm Upset at Netflix's New Documentary "Take Your Pills":

I love this video from Jessica, she put it all together perfectly…

I was going to watch this documentary to see what it was all about, but honestly, after watching Jessica’s video, I feel like I might have changed my mind…it’s going to be pure frustration…

I understand people without ADHD abuse the stimulant medication and that is a real problem, especially for younger adults and kids using it to boost performance and study etc…and then developing a drug problem and that’s not OK…so something had to be done to raise some awareness and scare them from taking it so lightly… what people don’t understand is that it’s safe IF YOU HAVE ADHD! if you don’t, it will WRECK YOUR BRAIN!

We naturally have a deficit of dopamine and serotonin and noradrenaline, so we take medication to normalise those neurotransmitters so we can operate more like a neurotypical person. If you are already neurotypical, you will be causing an overload of dopamine and serotonin and noradrenaline in your brain, which is the same as taking recreational drugs…and once those levels normalise again, you have withdrawals…because the pills make you high…

Now, if you HAVE ADHD, you don’t get a “high”…you just get focused and calm, not jittery and hyper…and with the right medication and right dosage, you don’t really experience any side-effects at all (I don’t). And on my days off, I don’t take my meds and there is absolutely no withdrawal at all! You are just your normal self…no physiological disturbances…

The message I want to finish with is that just because people with ADHD safely take these medications, doesn’t mean they will be safe for YOU -if you don’t have ADHD…don’t be fooled by that excuse that “lot’s of people take it so it should be fine for me too”… what do you think would happen to you if you started taking high blood pressure medication, when your blood pressure is just fine? You are going to feel dizzy and weak because then your blood pressure will go from normal to low! Just because people with high blood pressure take it safely, doesn’t mean it’s going to be safe for you because you don’t have the issue to start with!

Convite Para Empreendedores Com TDAH:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/empreendedoresTDAH/

Vejo vocês lá! Não se esqueçam de compartilhar esse vídeo com as pessoas que você conhece e acredita que iriam se beneficiar dessa comunidade…desde já agradeço a sua audiência ;)

Watching Netflix’s “Take your Pills”…

Hi Friends - long time no chat!

I’m jumping back in after watching netflix’s new Doco “Take Your Pills”.

I’ll be going back and blogging about some of the things the doco says or implies that rang true or felt dismissive to me. I’ll throw in some stats when it’s useful!

Reblog or message me letting me know if there’s anything you would like me to mention!

How did you feel watching it? What would you like to know more about? What do you wish they had said/not said? What have your friends and family said about it?

It’s an open floor for your opinions on the piece.

As always, try and keep it brief because, let’s be real, we all got AD/HD here.

x

I haven’t watched it yet but will def watch it some time this week and let you know how I find it :)
