My personal yoga-journey

The past 10 months have been the most intense in my almost 4-year yoga-journey so far. I am currently practicing 50 to 90 minutes yoga daily and on every single day of the year, in any place, no matter where I am or how I feel prior to my praxis. But in the end, I always feel marvelous after a yoga-session and that is what counts. This daily practice has brought change to my mind, my body and my soul and I feel so much fitter, happier and more relaxed than I used to. This time just for myself has become so precious that I wouldn’t wanna miss it for the world.

Through yoga, I found self-love, mindfulness, a purely plant-based lifestyle, less consumption of everything, more closeness to nature, more love for others and so much more. All in all, I am simply living a far more mindful life and yoga has definitely brought me there. Yoga can change you, but always to the better. You learn to discover and accept your limits and overcome your fears…

But always in good yoga-wear

Of course, wearing the right clothes is so important if you practice yoga on a daily basis. The clothes must be super comfortable and flexible and even though I love wide pants, I mostly prefer elastic leggings for my daily yoga practice, combined with a small bra or top. Not too much fabric, though, because I tend to sweat a lot.

It is also really important to me that my clothes are being produced in a fair and sustainable fashion. After all, I’m wearing my yoga clothes A LOT and over a long period of time and naturally, I wouldn’t wanna wear clothes that could harm my health or my skin or, in the worst case, have been produced under really bad working conditions.

No, my clothes should please be produced fair, high-quality and sustainable. I’m fine with paying a little more for them if the price is still reasonable.

Yoga-Wear by OGNX

Luckily, there is yoga-wear by OGNX* (pronounce: organics), a brand that combines all these aspects perfectly. The brand is exactly what I’m expecting of a yoga-wear brand. It produces fair and sustainable active-wear for men and women with only high-quality and sustainable materials like biological cotton, recycled polyester or polyamide and only produces in Europe and Turkey with the highest standards of fair working conditions for all people involved in the production process.

You can only love such a brand, right? Especially, if they produce such beautiful yoga-wear as you can see in my outfit today which was send to me as a pr sample. I love the hand-tie-dye design of my yoga pants* made from recycled polyester and spandex and in combination with the cute top with “Yoga Girl”-print*, it’s one of my all-time favorite yoga-outfits!

Do you care about sustainability and fairness when you buy new clothes? And if so, what are your favorite sustainable and fair fashion brands? I’m looking forward to your input!

If we only believe strongly enough and manifest it in our minds, I’m sure that summer will return sooner than we would believe in this cold and gloomy weather. And then, I’ll finally be able to wear this beautiful dress again which reminds me so much of the South of France. This lovely, fair produced cotton lace dress by Sézane* is perfect for hot summer days in the countryside…

Right now, though, I’m really longing to travel far far away. Ideally, I’d pack only some few things, take along Max and go somewhere far away where the water is crystal clear, the palm trees are moving softly in the wind and the fruit is fresh and yummy! Wherever that might be, I’d like to go there and spend a couple of weeks far away from home. It could also be a summer house in La Provence, that would be fine, too. Just somewhere without many people, lots of nature, sun and warmth.

Unfortunately, I’ll first have to check how much taxes I’ll have to pay this year and only after that, I can start planning trips again. Until then, I’ll have to wait in cold Germany and wait for summer to return…

Anyway, how do you like my little white lace dress by Sézane? And where are you spending summer? I’m looking forward to your comments!

Summer, where have you gone?

Not two weeks ago, I was completely and perfectly fine with the weather (I simply love hot summer weather with temperatures as hot as 30 – 35 degrees Celsius) and now, where has that lovely hot weather gone? Summer simply decided to take a break again and I’m not happy about that. Temperatures below 20 degrees Celsius are simply not okay for July! I haven’t been outside for days because the weather is crap and I prefer staying indoors, doing yoga and cooking hot and spicy food in oder to sweat. I’ve even looked up a hot yoga studio here in Dusseldorf because at least in there, it will be around 40 degrees Celsius, hehe.

Summer without summer weather? Only with a good summer coat!

But the one place, where I’m fine with cold summer weather, is by the sea. The salty wind is cold, anyway and with the wild waves and all, less warm weather is okay and bearable. But of course, only if I can wear a good coat in oder not to freeze. I’m really in love with my new -Glencheck-coat by Jake*s*, which is super light and airy and yet, keeps me warm all the time. It’s the perfect summer coat, to be honest and isn’t it beautiful, too?!

I’ve combined it with a beautiful white jumpsuit by Jake*s* in a very casual way, but you can also dress this jumpsuit up for more official occasions. Just add heels, a nice bag and more jewelry. I’m sure I’m gonna wear this lovely piece a lot in the future.

By the way, are you team “Hot Summer”, just like I am, or rather team “Cool Summer”? I can’t wait for your comments!

Around 11 years ago, I founded this blog. Back then, in 2008, one of the main topics here on CATS & DOGS was my love for knitting and sewing – handicrafts were and still are a beloved hobby of mine. During my studies, I created many beautiful pieces of clothing, as, for example, this knitted dress, which I even sold to a friend later on.

Then, at the end of my studies and the beginning of working life, I didn’t find the time for sewing anymore and started blogging about styling outfits and my beauty routine. The classic fashion blog was born and I kept doing this for the next couple of years. The blog established itself in the German fashion blogging scene so that, in 2013, I became self-employed with my own business.

Now, that Max and I have transformed CATS & DOGS into a couple, travel and lifestyle blog, I have enough time again for my hobbies, so I had the time and will to start sewing and knitting again and so, one day a couple of weeks back, I simply created this wrap-skirt myself and this is also what I wanted to show to you all today.

The beautiful thing about sewing clothes yourself is, next to the sewing process itself which can be challenging at times, the relationship you have towards your new piece of clothing. From a simple piece of fabric, you created something that suits you, fits you and meets your wishes and ideas, exactly. All of which you’ll never find when you buy a piece of clothing at a shop or online. And that is why I want to start sewing again more often (and knitting in winter). It’s also much more sustainable, especially if you use second-hand or old fabric.

How do you like my self-sewn skirt and have you sewn something yourself sometime? I am looking forward to your comments very much!

Today, I would like to start a new category on this blog. After I had been posting vegetarian recipes already a couple of years ago (for example the unforgettable Canadian Pizza), I would like to post one vegan recipe per month, now.

Today, I will start with a light and super simple recipe: grilled vegetables with Alnatura almond-nut tofu (my favorite tofu) and Bedda Hirte (a perfect vegan option for herders cheese). This dish doesn’t take long and is easily done. You can eat it with vegan sausages or with fresh bread and Hummus – whatever you like best!

Recipe: Grilled vegetables with tofu and vegan white cheese

Ingredients for 4 persons:

1 orange or red pepper
1 yellow pepper
ca. 10 cherry tomatos
2 medium sized onions
1 egg plant
2 zucchini
1 pack of Alnatura almond-nut tofu
1 pack of Bedda “Hirte”
4-6 fresh rosemary branches
1 TSP pepper powder
1 TSP cayenne pepper powder
1 SP soy sauce
2 SP olive oil
salt & pepper
juice from 1/2 fresh lemon

Pre-heat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius. Chop the vegetables into pieces, same for tofu and white vegan cheese.
Afterwards, place everything into a baking dish, season it and add soy sauce and olive oil, as well as some lemon juice. Finally, add some braches of rosemary and bake everything in the oven for 20 minutes at 200 degrees Celsius.

Voilà! That’s it! Enjoy your oven veggies with some bread and Hummus if you like.

In Berlin, you’ve got the Baltic Sea nearby, here in Dusseldorf, we have the North Sea as a very popular place to travel to. Only about 2 hours away, you can find the Dutch North Sea coast, where the sand is delicate, the ocean is blue and the dunes are sandy and green. I love being at the ocean and the fact that we can simply take a trip there – even if only for a day – is so lovely.

So, a week ago on Sunday, we started with the morning sun and returned with the full moon from our one-day trip. On the way to Zuid-Holland, the sun was shining, it was warm and we couldn’t wait for the ocean. With our green frog, our Citroen CX from 1978, we hovered along through beautiful green landscapes to finally arrive at the coast 2 hours later with the warm sun and a soft breeze welcoming us.

At the beach, we simply enjoyed the sun, the warmth and a refreshing bath in the cool, but so very clear North Sea which is so much more beautiful than the muddy North Sea in Germany. At the only beach bar in Ouddorp Strand, there was even a small hippie-festival taking place. I love the Dutch for their love of a good party, hehe.

My beach-outfit consists of a cute striped knitted pullover by Jake*s*, a wide pair of Marlene-pants by Jake*s*, my basket-bag by Rouje, Hermès Oran sandals and sunglasses by Adam Selman x Le Specs.

Are you team North Sea or team Baltic Sea? Where do you prefer spending your time? And how do you like my wartime inspired outfit? I’m looking forward to your comments!

Do you know what we love doing most on warm summer nights? Exactly, we looove a good BBQ! Simply packing everything together, jump on our bikes and off to the park or the beach. Because you know what? We have the coolest little grill of all times: he’s called Grilli and has the perfect size for one couple, it’s light and simple to use. You can simply hang him over the handle of your bike and off you go! The rest, we simply pack into a rucksack and my bike’s basket – so easy and we’re super mobile with this kind of technique.

But now that I’m eating 100% vegan and both of us have been vegetarians for quite some time, Max was a little bit afraid that our BBQ could turn out to be not as wonderful as they were in the past years… after all, what are you supposed to grill if not meat?!

The Garden Gourmet Incredible Burger

That was, of course, a rhetorical question. You can grill lots of things! Vegetables are perfect for grilling and there are also many vegan options for your summertime BBQ that can be found at your local supermarket. For example, the incredibly juicy and tender Garden Gourmet Incredible Burger*, that we were invited to try on our first BBQ of the year which took place at the beach in Dusseldorf. This burger-patty tastes soo good and it’s actually hard to believe that it is 100% veggie, as it tastes like meat, smells like it and can be treated just like a conventional burger-patty. For this reason, the Garden Gourmet Incredible Burger is perfect for us vegans and vegetarians, but also perfect for flexitarians.

Max and I don’t miss the taste or smell of meat at all, but we still love the Garden Gourmet Incredible Burger as it’s just super tasty – especially, when it’s fresh from the grill!

How to make our vegan grilled burger

For all of you that would like to try our burger variation, I have written down the full list of ingredients. Simply stack everything, bite inside and enjoy!

Ingredients for 2 burgers:

1 pack of Garden Gourmet Incredible Burger* (incl. 2 patties, grill for about 12 minutes)
2 burger buns (roast from both sides on the grill till brown)
2 slices of a fresh tomato
4 slices of sandwich-cucumbers
4 leaves of green salad
2 sp guacamole (homemade from half an avocado, juice of one lemon, salt & lots of pepper)
2 sp vegan red pepper and chili spread
2 slices of vegan cheese (I love using a cheddar-variation)
some ketchup and mayonnaise

So, who of you would like to try some juice, tasty and purely plant-based burgers right now? If that sounds like you, do try the Garden Gourmet Incredible Burger – it’s so worth it!

My every-day life? Is definitely not your usual 9 to 5 job and every day is different, full of excitement and unforeseeable events – and I love that, it never gets boring! Today, a shooting, tomorrow a trip, the day after tomorrow, a concept for a partner and then, there’s of course daily mails, instagram and so much more…

And even though I am able to build some routines into my every-day life (like daily yoga-sessions in the afternoon that I need and love so much), I sometimes don’t know where my head is at. Luckily, Max is always by my side and supports me in any possible way. I couldn’t be luckier than having him as my team, I’m so thankful for that.

Creating special golden moments for myself

But I did manifest one more important ritual: the first, delicious and relaxed cup of coffee in the morning. For that, I’m even getting back to bed, enjoying the moment and starting slowly into the new day. For this special golden moment, I leave my phone in airplane mode and my to-do list on my desk. After all, this moment is just for myself.

This moment is only even more perfected by pure coffee goodness. Suitably, the brand L’OR* is launching in Germany right now and offers me the most enjoyable, intense and delicious coffee taste for my morning ritual. After that, I can start into my day, full of motivation and power. By the way, I am one of five Golden Girls for this year’s L’OR campaign and I will tell you more about my very own golden moments in the upcoming months on Instagram @catsanddogsblog. Stay tuned!

The L’OR “Goldstandard”

But what exactly makes L’OR so special? For me, it’s the intense, rich taste, the pure aroma and the balance between rich and elegant aromas. That’s the L’OR golden standard that you may discover in 19 different variations of Nespresso®**-compatible espresso capsules. Among them, you can find Ristretto, Estremo, Profondo, Elegante and from the Origins collection Colombia or Papua New Guinea. So lovely!

Do you already know L’OR espresso capsules? And what’s your personal golden moment? By the way, if you would like to test L’OR, you may do so by clicking this link*.

When the sun is shining and it’s finally turning really warm outside, there is no stopping me. When summer calls, I can’t stay inside my own home anymore but have to go outside and feel it with my own skin. Out there, I can be wild and free and simply do all the things I really like!

Like the Spanish girls with their wild temperament, I love letting go on a summer’s day: putting all my appointments aside, turning my phone into airplane mode and start the evening a little earlier – that’s what I love about summer. It means freedom, taking things easy and enjoying life to the fullest. It’s that time of the year when we are celebrating and breathing life with every cell of our body. Oh, how I love summer!

And how to celebrate this season better than with a glass of sparkling Cava Semi-Seco by Freixenet*, right? Speaking a toast to love, spontenous actions and Spanish temperament! And that’s exactly why I took my love Max and went to our favourite lake for an early afternoon celebration. What did we celebrate? Our love, life and the happiness that surrounds us!

After all, at the lake, surrounded by cute boats and under the warm sun, we can enjoy summer to the fullest. Here, we can raise our glass to life, let our souls rest or have a spontaneous dance at the pier – without falling in the water, of course! “Just do it!” sounds so banal, but it’s so true. I love takin’ it easy!

When was the last time you did something really spontaneous? When did you do something you didn’t plan in advance? Let’s share our experiences and ideas!

PS.: Please remember that alcohol should be consumed responsibly and is not a must. Please don’t go swimming when you have had a drink, no matter if it’s a lake, a river, the ocean or a swimming pool. Take care of yourself!
