Last week on our first Summer camping trip the weather was not ideal. It was warm but very overcast everyday except for the last day we were there. The girls did not mind though and were in their swimsuits as soon as we arrived. They never seem to mind what they weather is like they are just happy to play.
After showers and dinner they rode their bikes and then they made some friends which ended in them all playing in the sand together for most of the night.
While the girls were off playing we played cornhole.
Once it got really dark the girls came back to join us at the firepit for some s'mores. Brooklyn ended the first night with a cut on her foot, she did not like having it cleaned but she did enjoy having her daddy carry her.
The next morning was overcast again and instead of wasting the morning sitting around we decided to take the girls to check out the USS Midway
We were there for over four hours and I was very much over being there. It definitely wasn't my favorite museum I've been too but the rest of the family did enjoy it.
Brooklyn opted to not stand on the glass floor with us.
Before we left we of course had to check out the gift shop. Brooklyn spotted this hat and then saw the goggles and immediately said she had to have them.
I would've never guessed this would be something she would want but she wore it non stop the rest of the camping trip. We had to tell her to take it off many times!!!
We were starving when we left and since there was a Stone Bistro nearby we of course had to go. Another delicious meal and beer at Stone.
We had to tell Brooklyn to atleast take the goggles off while we ate. She ordered Sausage Wellington and loved it! I was proud of her for ordering something completely new.
A bathroom selfie because the men and womans restroom met together at the hand washing station. Where else would we see daddy when we are in a public restroom!!
After our bellies were full we were ready to head back to the campsite. Fingers crossed the skies would be cloud free when we got there!
It was partly cloudy off and on which is better than completely overcast so we couldn't complain.
We were all happy to finish out the day on the beach.
Monday was Ten on Ten and since we were packing up to leave for our first camping trip of the Summer I decided to take pictures of what it looks like the day we leave. I honestly prep most of our meals, snacks and get the beds made in the days prior to when we leave because all of the last minute things take a lot of time. But first like any other day it must start with coffee and a little down time before the crazy begins.
I still had to make our breakfast burritos so I made those right after I was done enjoying my coffee. These got packed up for us to enjoy on one of the mornings while camping.
The dining room table becomes my gathering spot for all things that I don't want to forget and need to be loaded up. It starts piling up for about a week before we head out.
The girls and I packed their clothes for the week and then loaded theirs as well as mine into the trailer followed by all of the items on the table as well as whatever else needs to be put in. The food also all gets put into the trailer refrigerator.
After everything is wiped down and cleaned inside I take a quick shower and then we all get loaded up and off we go!
It was about two and half hours 'til our destination this time. The girls played on their tablets for an hour and then we all ate some snacks (gummy bears) and waited patiently to arrive.
Once we have arrived and everything is set up the girls change into their swimsuits.
It was June Gloom at it's finest but these two didn't mind one bit, I opted to stay in my long pants because it was breezy down by the water and I prefer to stay cozy.
An ice cold beer and an ocean view is exactly how I like to start my vacation!
We all made it to our happy place and no matter what the weather is we always enjoy our time near the ocean!
Thursday afternoon it was officially Summertime. It was bittersweet for the girls, Brooklyn and Kayla were both sad to be leaving their friends but I'm pretty sure if I asked them today they would be okay with not going to school.
Our annual Last Day of School photos compared to their first day.
How is my youngest already going to be a big 4th grader??
I feel like Kayla just started 6th grade and it was over in a blink! She'll now be a 7th grader and it's really going way too quick for me.
Kayla's last day was spent on a field trip to the movie theater to see Aladdin. She had sooooo much fun and had so much to talk about when I picked her up at noon. I was teary eyed listening to her she was so full of excitement and had so many new memories from just that morning that I know she'll remember forever.
Brooklyn was out for Summer at 1:08 and gave many hugs goodbye to her besties. I had to remind her that she WILL see them again. Her day was filled with playing board games, watching a movie and lot's of yummy snacks.
She was ready for Summer!
The girls came home to a few Summer treats
When daddy got home and after we ate dinner the kids jumped on the trampoline until it was time for showers and bed.
Friday was National Donut Day so I made the girls donuts
Not a bad way to start a Summer morning.
A little while after it was quiet and I found them each reading in their rooms!
Summer Reading - YouTube
They have also been spending some time making bracelets. They like to sale them when we go camping and did pretty good last year making some money.
Saturday we spent the day swimming in Palm Springs. The weather and water were perfect and it was a very fun day.
We definitely aren't having any problems "Jumping" into Summer over here!
I have just barely gotten over the fact that I'm dropping off a 6th grader at middle school everyday and now I'll be dropping her off as a big 7th grader!
I will say though that all of my worries I had for her this year never happened and she not only did amazing in 6th grade but had a great time as well. Her friends that she has chosen are amazing and we've been pretty drama free so far. Fingers crossed next year stays the same for the most part!
This past Monday Kayla received not one but two Teachers Special Recognition Awards. One from her Math and Science Teacher and the other from her ELA and History Teacher.
They both said the kindest words about her and I could not of been more proud of her!
This week when she brought home her yearbook I was flipping through it when I saw this!
There she is under Future Genius!
The only girl listed might I add and she had absolutely no clue about it. Good thing I actually look through the yearbook right?
Now I know Cross Country happened months ago but since my blogging has been terrible this past year I never got around to posting all of the pictures I took of her so here they are.
Better late than never!
I mentioned to Kayla last Summer that she might enjoy Cross Country in middle school and it would definitely help out with her speed which in return would be great for soccer. She agreed it sounded fun and decided to try out for the team.
She did indeed make the team and did so great throughout the season, bettering her time each race!
I really enjoyed watching her run and seeing her once again do awesome at something new
Her bestie was also on the team and it turned out to be her first sport she had ever done. She turned out to be a super fast runner and beat Kayla just about every time but it was great to see them running together and I thought it was neat that Kayla could push herself to run next to her to better herself.
She loved cross country and is looking forward to being on the team again in the Fall.
I'm looking forward to watching her run again as well as seeing how seventh grade goes because if it's anything like sixth it'll be awesome!
Kayla will be out first and then we will soon be picking up Brooklyn. Every year I make a Summer Fun List and the girls for the most part do not know what is on it. They usually know about the camping trips but everything else is usually a surprise.
Brooklyn always seems to be the first to find it up and also the one who is constantly asking me over and over when it will be up. She's still young enough to easily please!!
Here she is pointing to the bottom asking me what does JUMP mean? They did not know they would be getting a trampoline for them to enjoy all Summer long.
Our Summer already seems too short but I'm really looking forward to all of the fun we are going to have! These two are growing up way too fast so making as many memories as possible is important!
Back in the beginning of May Brooklyn had her last field trip of the year to Gilman Springs Ranch. This is one of my favorite field trips so I was happy to tag a long with Brooklyn.
It smelled heavenly next to this tree.
Brooklyn's class split into two teams and they had a race to see which team could hand wash and hang up their clothes on the clothes line the fastest. This was of course their favorite part of the field trip.
They also loved mining for gold.
At one point I realized I was following this girl all around like a puppy dog. She's the one that begged me to be there and I swear whenever I got close to her she was running off to another spot with friends. My little girl is definitely growing up!
Half way through May Brooklyn reached her 1 million words read and received her Million Word Club shirt and award. She worked really hard this year to make this and we were so proud of her.
I think Brooklyn was beyond proud to have her daddy at her school during Career Week. In fact on the day he was there she didn't leave his side. I kept asking her all about the other presenters who had set up tables and she knew nothing about them because she didn't look at any of them. She said that daddy's was the best set up and all of the kids liked it the best so that made her very happy.
She loves him so much!
Brooklyn ended out the year receiving an Outstanding Character Award from her teacher.
Here is what her teacher wrote about her,
"Brooklyn has worked hard all year to give her best effort in all she does! She is a positive, kind and responsible student. Her peers can always look to her for help and as an example of what it means to be amazing! Keep up the hard work Brooklyn!"
Here she is with her bestie sporting their new matching BFF eraser bracelets.
She's been waiting so long for Summertime but the other day she said she was kind of sad because she was going to miss her friends too much. I told her she's only going to be away from them for 8 short weeks before school is back which I hope is good for her because 8 weeks is way too short for me!!
May is always one of our busiest months out of the year. We have multiple family birthday parties, mother's day and of course all of the end of year school activities. We are definitely never bored during this month!
I love capturing little moments of the girls playing and when I stumbled upon this scene I had to grab my camera.
She was reading her book to her favorite friend, Milly while she took her bath. She had Milly all set up with a towel and washcloth too.
We were so excited to kick off the month with a pool day! The girls love swim days with their Papa Russ.
Brooklyn was pretty excited to find a watermelon hat to match her swimsuit!
Hubby and I were happy to squeeze in a mid week date night to see a favorite country band playing nearby
Kayla had her last 6th grade dance of the year and it was a glow party so the girls all painted some glow designs on their face. She has had such a great year and I couldn't be more thankful for that.
Our community always has so many fun events and even though our Saturday was jam packed we fit in a walk over to the Summer carnival to check it out before we were off to a birthday party.
While we waited in line for our free In N Out there was a magician who entertained us all.
He was awesome with the girls and blew our minds a few times.
This year there was a reptile petting zoo. Kayla was happy and has not let us forget how much she wants a pet snake! Never gonna happen in my house that's for sure.
We walked back home after about an hour so the girls could change into their swimsuits and head over to a friends birthday party
Caught a picture of Brooklyn falling off the raft at just the right time!
After a few hours of swimming and hanging out with friends we drove back home and all showered. The girls were then dropped off at the grandparents so hubby and I could go and watch his brother's band play.
The next afternoon I made the girls their Unicorn Fraps they got in their Easter baskets and they were delicious!
We have had so much rain this month!
Cali refused to go out because it was raining HARD so I had to follow the dog out with a giant umbrella and she still decided the grass was too soggy and wet so she used the planter instead.
I was so happy to have a warm and clear morning to enjoy my coffee outside!
Oh look! A downpour out of nowhere as soon as I got out of the car to pick up Brooklyn.
On the last day of the month we surprised the girls with a trampoline. This is my attempt to make sure they are outside more and so far it has been working. I'm looking forward to Summer days and nights spent watching these two jump!
Only 2 more days of school and then it's Summertime!
Even though school isn't out until June 6th over here Memorial Day Weekend always seems like the true kick off to Summertime! We thought the best way to start the weekend would be to head to a local baseball game.
We were all ready to enjoy a good game and eat some hot dogs, lots of snacks and beers for hubby and I.
We ran into some friends and ended up watching the rest of the game and the firework show with them.
Saturday we drove out to Palm Springs to spend the day with my father in law. We all couldn't wait for some warm weather and some time in the pool. It just happened to be National Wine day so of course we had to have a glass or two.
Back at home on Sunday we woke up to cold and overcast weather. We did absolutely nothing all day and when everyone was hungry I served up some snacks and we all watched Parks and Recreation together.
Later we had a family movie night.
Monday was another relaxing day spent at home, except Kayla and I headed out to run a few errands in the morning.
It was partly sunny but still a little too cold to fully enjoy a day outside. We still managed to BBQ some hot dogs and I enjoyed some quiet time out back.
The month of May has been very busy so having two days to fully relax and do nothing was much needed. In 6 more days we will have a whole lot more home time and we can't wait!
I was extremely spoiled this year for Mother's day. The celebrating started on Saturday morning when I got up and the family made breakfast.
Brooklyn set the table and added some greenery by adding in some spinach leaves. I mean how could I not love that :)
Breakfast was delicious!
Later we got ready and took a drive out to Escondido to do some shopping at some of the cutest antique shops. Hubby and I grabbed a chai/coffee first.
Looking through an antique shop with a delicious chai latte is a perfect way to spend a Saturday.
I loved this velvet antique photo album but did not love the price so much.
Of course we had to check out the cute bookstore
The girls were getting hungry so we stopped to try some beignets with chocolate and berry sauce.
After our afternoon shopping we headed over to Stone Brewery. I love this place not only is the beer delicious but the food and the grounds are amazing. The girls love to explore and we all love the amazing food. So when I had to choose something to do for Mother's day this was the spot.
While hubby and I ordered our drinks the girls were off exploring. They spotted a baby turtle that we enjoyed watching while we relaxed.
The food never disappoints!
It had drizzled a little while we were just enjoying the grounds but after we were done with dinner it began to really rain. They moved umbrellas over the outdoor tables and we all waited for dessert in the rain. It was a lot of fun being outside during the rain.
Sunday morning started around 8am! Yay for sleeping in and then getting up to enjoy my coffee in my favorite spot.
I was showered with gifts and loved every single one of them! The girls went to Hobby Lobby and Marshalls with their daddy and picked out my gifts this year. I love getting gifts from my girls that they actually picked out themselves.
Kayla's card made me tear up! I love her drawing of Winnie the Pooh so much and that quote is one of my very favorites.
Brooklyn's card made me laugh out loud, she's such a weirdo!
One of the gifts the girls gave me was a jar filled with memories they wrote down. They said they would add to it as they thought of more. So thoughtful!
Kayla picked out the sign which she has definitely started to realize is a very, very true statement.
After gifts and a very relaxing morning at home we headed over to my parents to celebrate with my mom and sister in law. My grandmother was sick so unfortunately we didn't get to see her.
These four kept us all entertained with some music and dancing.
The weather was beautiful so the cousins played outside while we sat outside and talked for a few hours before we had to leave to head over to my mother in laws.
Over there we ate homemade pizza and talked for a few hours.
This year was definitely one of my very favorite Mother's Days. I loved having an entire Saturday to spend just as I wanted to and then Sunday to celebrate with all the other moms in my life. It was perfect!
I love this girl so much and I'm so proud of the young lady she is turning into. She is so awesome and I really wanted to make sure her day was just as special as she is to me.
Her day fell on a Friday so after we dropped off Brooklyn at school I surprised Kayla by taking her to Starbucks to pick up a little a treat to enjoy.
She was very excited to be walking into school with her Starbucks!
When I picked her up at school she was sporting a Happy Birthday headband and bags of gifts from her awesome friends.
Back at home she got to tear into her gifts from us.
Soon enough it was time for her three besties to come over for a sleepover.
Everything was set up and Kayla was looking forward to having all of her friends over to celebrate
The house got loud quick and there was lots of giggling and silliness going on.
We enjoyed listening to all of these girls and their silly stories. They were having so much fun!
At one point they were all inside playing the game PIT, hubby and I decided we would enjoy a little quiet out back and play a game ourselves for a bit.
Brownie sundaes were for dessert but first we all had to sing to the birthday girl
Next the girls played a game that we came up with, Who knows the birthday girl best? We compiled a few questions all about Kayla and whoever got the most right won a prize.
The rest of the night was spent with the girls playing games and watching movies. They had plans to stay up all night but luckily around midnight they decided to call it a night. One had already been asleep for about an hour since she had to be up and leave early for a soccer game.
The next morning the girls enjoyed donuts and more hanging out before they were picked up by their parents. Kayla said this birthday was her favorite so far. I'm so thankful she has such great friends that were able to celebrate her day with her!
