Treasures & Travels is a lifestyle blog by Tegan & Lindsay, two sisters from Vancouver, BC. With a love for all things creative they daily share their favourite recipes, diy projects, outfits, favourite brands, beauty tricks, hair tutorials, and more!
Oh my goodness, we moved! I still can't believe it. We honestly weren't even thinking about moving out of our one bedroom or even looking but somehow it happened. Lindsay and I have been looking for a bit bigger of a studio space because we're outgrowing ours and have both had to store a lot of work stuff at our apartments. We need a kitchen so we were looking around at some apartments and suites to use for a studio space. We saw that a few were available in my building so we thought we'd take a look, of course, we found out they only rent for residential use, not a business, but I sort of fell in love with the unit a floor above ours. After looking at it I called Dan and he came straight home from work to take a look. Both of us just had a feeling we needed to take it so we prayed about it, it sat so right with us, and we basically went straight to the office to sign the lease!
I'm glad we snapped these photos before the packing frenzy began. We lived in this apartment for almost 6 years, so much has happened here. The change is good for us I think, a lot of things have suddenly been changing and shifting. It scares and excites me, but we're trusting in God's provision and really learning how to trust.
We are still in love with our Penelope wall bed from Resource Furniture. It allowed us to stay in this place and save a ton of money on rent this last year, and if we didn't both own businesses that require some office space we would totally stay for another year at least. In our new place we have two bedrooms, and the second we have set up as an office for Dan and I! We're still going to keep going with the shared room for the girls, but having another room for their naps will be a lifesaver as those are getting tricky. I just have a pack 'n play in the office corner that Millie naps in if they are napping at the same time! It's been working really well. I learned quickly that trying to get them to nap in the same room just doesn't work, and Hazel is slowly transitioning out of needing that mid-day sleep so it's been so helpful.
The new apartment has higher ceilings, that means I can fill the top of this bed with all the plants! Moving the bed was a lot easier than we anticipated it to be! We had a friend come over and help take it apart (the front part is super heavy), and then we had it set up again the day after moving! I love it, it's really been worth the investment for us.
Oh and another small thing I'm excited about is that we don't have a TV anymore. It's a bit of a funny story, but I'm really excited to not have one! I always was a bit jealous of other IG moms I saw who would just move their tv upstairs or out of the living room for a season and I've been really craving that! We knew it was something that God made clear to us that we needed to get rid of with the move and we were totally ok with, and then once we started setting up our place we realized quickly that there wasn't even a place for a tv to go. Something that probably would have stressed me out if we hadn't decided earlier, I'm sure I would have had a bit of a "but what about my Netflix" moment. Have you ever done this for a season? I'm sure we'll have one again sometime, but I'm really excited to go into this Summer with a lot less screen time for all of us.
Ok Millie, slow down, this girl is growing up a little too fast!
Oh baby spring has arrived. This week is probably the first full rain-free week we've had since it's officially been spring and I'm so happy about it. Both my girls love being outside, Millie is always happiest outdoors on a stroll to the park or shop, and so is Hazel. Today I was trying to get a few boxes packed because we have about 12 days until we move (!!!) and Hazel was begging me to go outside. We all had a rough night so I just wasn't up for it but she looked at me with her big green eyes and said, "mommy I'm happy in the sun, I need to be in the sunshine." How can you say no to that?!
An Ergobaby has always been my go-to carrier, especially at this age when Millie can have the option of facing in or out, it's so nice. With Hazel I had an older Ergobaby 360, so I was excited to try the new Omni 360 Cool Air Mesh baby carrier. I am amazed by how comfy it is for her and for me as well! It can be used from the newborn stage up to toddlers, which is amaaazing that you don't need an infant insert! It's super straightforward to use and not hard to figure out on your own! I've definitely tried carriers that require reading a long, complicated manual and still not really knowing which strap goes where!
I mean, I want this girl close enough to kiss for as long as possible. Not wishing away these baby days. She's growing so fast! I'm so looking forward to all the adventures that the warmer weather will bring us.
One of my favourite features is the easy switch sliders that make switching from facing in to out so quick and easy. Millie loves seeing what we're up to, but after so long she gets overstimulated. I can make a quick turnaround and she calms down pretty quick! Same with the other way, she'll wake up from a nap if we're out for a long walk and want to get in on the action. I'd honestly suggest a baby carrier as one of my top things you need as a new mom!
My closet is slowly being taken over by La Causa, it's a brand we've both loved for a long time and love supporting. Their clothing is all designed and made in LA. Their offices are in the same factory where the patterns are made and where their samples are sewn. They're committed to sourcing ethical fabrics and producing ethically. Something I've become so aware of and passionate about! I've made a huge effort in the last few years to minimize mine and the girls' wardrobes to pieces that are quality, made locally, ethically, or secondhand.
That's so much to love about La Causa, their clothing is the perfect mix of on-trend but also pieces that you can wear every day. I have some pieces on my closet I've worn SO much and they have held up so well. It's so worth it to invest in quality pieces.
There are two ways you can enter! The first is on our Instagram post here.
The second is by going to LaCausaClothing.com and signing up for their newsletter located on the bottom right-hand side of their page! Once you've signed up for the newsletter leave a comment at the bottom of this blog post (make sure you leave your email so we can contact you!) and you'll be given 5 additional entries. BOOM, easy peasy.
We're pretty happy this week because spring has officially landed in Vancouver and you can smell it in the air. That little bit of warmth and extra long days is just what we've been waiting for <3
Our living room finally feels complete with this beautiful sectional from Rove Concepts. Furniture has been in and out and rearranged in this space for years and it finally feels perfect. We used to have an old sectional in this corner, it was old and a bit grungy and we got rid of it in the fall and I missed having one so much! I thought this room would feel bigger with a smaller couch but it just didn't work! We never sat on it and it just became a dumping ground for toys and unfolded laundry. Now it's basically the most popular seat in the house.
We definitely are feeling the struggle of 2 kids in a one bedroom apartment. So far it's working, it's messy and there's always a box heading out the door full of things to donate, but I'm still loving it. It takes planning and naps are sometimes a gong show but we're figuring it out as we go.
After I ordered the light colour of this couch I had that instant thought of OH CRAP should I have gotten the black, we have tiny kids who are messssssy. Until l realized every piece of fabric you see is removable and washable! Hallelujah. Actually the best ever, as I'm currently cozied up in the corner with glass of red wine and cheezies, and no fear ;)
I love the chrome legs, today Millie somehow rolled across the room and was gazing at herself in them.
Man it feels SO good to get some sunlight in here again! In the winter we don't get the sun shining in these windows, so it feels amazing to have it slowly creeping back again. Like, really amazing.
This is her "are you done taking pics yet ma?" face. Also need to mention, all of these adorable outfits are from local company Little + Lively!
I haven't done a link love in a while so I'm excited to share lots of fun things with you!
FIRST THINGS FIRST - HOW AMAZING is this pale yellow "Nova" chair from Furniture Maison?! We are so in love with it. This European-inspired chair is such a cute addition to my home. Living in an apartment, it's nice to have furniture that is colourful, considering we can't paint our walls. I love a vibrant home, so this yellow chair is perfect. Plus, It is soo comfortable!
This outfit I'm wearing is entirely Frank and Oak - one of our fav brands! This pale pink sweater is such a beautiful colour - you can get is a hoodie too!
If you live in Vancouver, I STRONGLY SUGGEST you buy tix to this show on June 2nd at the Fox Cabaret! Our friend David Beckingham is such a talented musician, and it's going to be a very weepy/beautiful show. Don't miss it!
I went to a Liza Anne concert this week and it was incredible. Her stage presence really captivated me, and she had such a sweet and humble demeanour on stage. I hadn't really listened to her music before, so her performance really made me a big fan. I'd strongly suggest checking her out, as well as Alvvays! I went to their show last night at the Commodore and she killlllls it. I also have a big crush on her.
I'm so obsessed with My Bunhead Scrunchies!! They are handmade in Vancouver by a Mother/Daughter duo, which is so adorable. Check it out and support them! They even made a mini scrunchie for Hazel - she loved it so much, she couldn't get her hands off of it (see photo below) They will be launching a Mommy & Me scrunchie series on their site, be sure to look out for it, they are going to be adorable.
This post is sponsored by Fisher-Price, where you can learn about tried-and-true products that help baby sleep tight and stay comfy. Fisher-Price compensates me for my time, but the story of creating a safe and happy environment for your baby is brought to you by Treasures & Travels.
Sleep is by far the number one thing we were always asked about as new parents. Whenever I’m talking to anyone with a baby it’s one of the first questions that comes to mind... “How are you, you getting any sleep?!” It can be a sensitive topic for many, especially when you are sleep deprived and would do anything for a good night's sleep!
Millie comes to work with me to our little studio a few days a week (I’ll take all your bottle taking tips) and has just been sleeping in the stroller, but it’s been getting a little bit cramped in there. We don’t have a ton of storage, so our pack and play was out of the question, and I was honestly so excited when I saw this Fisher-Price On-The-Go Baby Dome! It’s SO perfect! Also a perfect little place I can put her down and she can chew away on all her favourite teething toys.
Millie just turned 6 months old! She is an amazing sleeper, I feel really lucky. At 5 weeks she started doing one long chunk at night and I was like...wait this can happen?! Hazel never slept through the night until she was like 9 months old, so I really appreciate how great of a sleeper Millie is. With both babies I’ve always napped on the go from the beginning, and delay using white noise and swaddling as long as possible to sort of guide them. I mean newborns will just sleep, but after a few weeks, those things are sooo helpful! I For the first few months I just let Millie nap wherever we were so she’d get used to the noise and I think it seemed to help with her sleep. I’m starting to transition her falling asleep in her big sisters room and so far so good. I put Millie to sleep around 7 and then Hazel to bed by 7:30/8 and she sings and chats and so far hasn’t woken Millie! When I go to bed I bring her back out into our room because I’m too lazy to walk across our apartment when she wakes up hangry around 5, so we’ll see when I’m ready for that to happen.
Millie will sleep almost anywhere, I swaddle her and put the white noise on and she’s usually asleep pretty quick! I’m so thankful for this little Baby Dome it folds up so small and light and will be perfect for taking outside in the summer with the little sunshade
A rested baby is a happy baby! This girl is my ray of sunshine, except when she’s tired or hungry, but that’s a pretty easy fix ;)
Ohhhh SUNSHINE!! Tegan and I were SO pumped to book our tickets to Palm Springs as soon as we saw that Alt Summit (a blogging/social media conference) had extra tickets for sale on their website. We had been to Alt once before back in 2013, nearly 5 years ago in New York! It had been a while, and we were craving to see the sun, so it seemed like a very easy decision. Plus Millie barely even knows the sun exists, so we HAD to take her away from the snow and introduce her right?!
This Airbnb was SOO beautiful. Our best buds Taylor and Elaine from Local Wanderer found this house, and it happened to be very close to Alt! It was perfect. Our friends Elizabeth from San Francisco and Alicia from Vancouver joined us. We had a lovely week with these ladies, and it became the ultimate girl gang getaway.
We couldn't get over this pink fridge, SO cute. Every inch of this Airbnb was stunning and cute to photograph, we had so much fun taking photos, drinking wine and making meals together! We even got a movie night in and watched Bring It On and had quite a few laughs over that movie, brought back highschool nostalgia to the max.
This was Millie's FIRST trip ever! Other than that time she came with us (In Tegan's belly) to San Diego last year. She did so good on both flights and is just such a happy baby. It isn't the easiest thing bringing a baby to a conference, but she killed it.
The girls stayed home one night while Millie was sleeping and let Tegan and I have a night out on the last night of the conference! It was an 80's Prom Night theme and Tegan and I showed up NOT in costume. We didn't really have any clothes and just thought we'd show up to snag some free grub and a cupcake. We were about to head home after dinner and took a peek into the room with the dance floor. The room was filled with balloons and alllll the top hits blaring. We noticed there was a vanity with a ton of colourful eyeshadow and a hair crimper. Teg picked it up and started crimping her hair. I grabbed the eyeshadow and next thing you know it we were in full 80's attire (courtesy of Alt with a rack full of extra 80s prom dresses for those lame enough to show up not in costume, *cough*). We stuffed our clothes in a corner and hit the dance floor. We had such a fun night together and I swear Tegan fully transformed into Kelly Kapowski.
The Frey House
We were so honoured to get a tour of the Frey House II in Palm Springs! Taylor hooked us up with the tour and we were all blown away by how incredible this house was. Albert Frey was an Architect and took years measuring the sun to find the perfect location to build his stunning desert modernist home.
Check out how he incorporated that giant rock into the design of his living room area! So cool! We could have lounged in there allllll day.The house is now owned by The Palm Springs Art Museum, which we visited earlier that day.
We had such a lovely time in Palm Springs! We have lots of amazing recommendations to shoot your way by sending you Local Wanderer's AMAZING guide to Palm Springs > Check it ouuuut!
