Valid

We all get intimacy feelings whenever we share a trip with important people in life. Sometimes we even want them to come with us for every travel, yet in reality, it is not possible. That is why recording became an essential part of traveling nowadays. With so many alternatives on the camera market, I found OmiCamprovides VR video and is targeting at a long time outdoor activity recording. As soon as the VR video rebuilds the trail I hiked, I will be able to share my adventure with friends and family with a vivid memory instead of still photos. Generally speaking, I think OmiCam provides an alternative and unique way for hiking and travel photography.

Moreover, its operation is more straightforward than I thought. Mount on the strap of backpacker, and it is ready to go! Although it exists some weaknesses as I will mention later.

A Wide-angle, Wearable, Easy-to-use Outdoor Camera First of all, let’s take an overall look of the product package

This package contains an OmiCam, a 360-degree Rotary Clip Mount & quick release, USB charging cable, a sporty carrying bag, a screw mount adapter, and an Instruction Booklet.

A close-up look at OmiCam

Its size is not bigger than a palm. It is comfortable to hold, and it is lightweight.

The memory card is a micro SD card and is already inserted.

I can start to shoot right after charging it (about 3hrs charging for first use).

How to start

There are only three buttons on OmiCam

(1)   Power button (same button to connect Wi-Fi)

(2)   Lifelog button (long press to switch mode between photo and video;)

(3)   Shutter key (start and stop video recording)

After powering on the OmiCam by pressing the power button, I could quickly start recording through one click of the shutter key and stop recording by clicking the same button again. If I want to document in an extended period, there is a “Lifelog mode” which can be activated by pressing the lifelog button. I will talk more about it later.

The 240-degree lens

Unlike other 360-degree cameras that require users to hold a stick all the time, OmiCam can quickly mount on the body. It captures the view angle that similar to the capability of human eyes and rebuilds the vivid VR video afterward.

This lens is the most significant part of the camera that is exposed outside. It attends IP65, which means no ingress of dust and can protest water jets from any angle. It is splash-resistant so that it can still operate under little rain. To prevent damage from colliding, OmiCam comes with a cap.

How is the 4K resolution?

As you can see, it’s wide-angle captured the much more landscape on the side.

Regular recording mode

**You can drag & click on the video to get a different viewpoint.**

While visiting more and more countries, it becomes a heavy burden to manage photos and videos for travelers. With the help of their software “OMI Studio” (free downloading), things become a lot easier. It features on previewing, editing, and transferring into 360 format. I use it to edit the original video that looks like a spherical video, and output as a VR story that could be uploaded on my social media streams.

Lifelog- The reason why it is the option for a hiking/traveling camera

I have to say this design opens up my mind and frees my hands. It slightly changed my mindset of travel vlogging. I used to think that one must be professional in photography or photoshop to have attractive content. Considerable time is devoted to ensuring getting a decent recording, while the real time to enjoy the moment is shrinking. Lifelog mode allows OmiCam to automatically record a video clip(5/15/30 sec) for every (1/3/5 min) interval in video mode, or take a photo for every (5/15/30 sec) in photo mode. At the time you can let it up to 15 hrs operating, or you can press the Lifelog button anytime to call off this recording.

Lifelog Mode

Epic Sunset Hike OmiCam Lifelog - YouTube

OmiCam can also connect to aphone via Wi-Fi and use OMI Studio to set the detail parameter. The only thing that needs to pay attention to is that once connected to Wi-Fi, it consumes much more power so that it will shorten the time of usage. Have to make sure to turn off Wi-Fi when you are not connecting with the OMI Studio app (PS. When the camera is in Lifelog, Wi-Fi will automatically be switched off. )

Wearable design

I have a glimpse on their website. It looks like OmiCam can be adapted to various accessories like a bike, helmet, a belt of a backpack with the help of the quick release clip. In the basic set, it already contains a 360-degree release clip and a quick release. Also, there is a screw mount adapter that can match to other camera accessories. I notice they also sell a waterproof case for people who go diving.

In conclusion, OmiCam is a lightweight and durable camera at an affordable price. Consider to take it with you for your next trip and sparks more joy in your life.}

When you’re on vacation, the last thing you want is for stress and worry to distract you from the fun and relaxation of the trip. Unnecessary worries — be it anxiety about your pet’s care, the security of your home or the many, logistical moving-parts of your itinerary — are easy to prevent with smart planning and digital resources. Don’t let any stress get in the way of your much-deserved break. Here are some tips for how to plan ahead for a stress-free vacation.

Worry-Free Vacations: Planning Tips & Useful Travel Resources

Home Security

A common safety worry that may crop up while you’re away is the security of your home. While you may have someone pop by to water plants of check in on your pets, there are still times when your house is unattended and more susceptible to a break-in. A reliable security camera system will provide you peace of mind and the freedom to truly enjoy your vacation. When choosing a security camera system, a wire-free one is a good option because it is easier to install as it runs on batteries and doesn’t have cords to get in your way. Before you leave on your trip, be sure to check the batteries, test out the cameras to make sure they are working well and make adjustments to the property coverage, if necessary.

Budgeting and Spending

Whether you’re traveling domestically or abroad, spending and forms of payment are a necessary thing to plan for. Keep your spending in check with a budgeting app that tracks how, where and when you’re spending your money. A budgeting app like Mint will keep you cognizant of your available funds and streamline your budgeting plans. Also, make sure you download your bank’s and credit card company’s mobile apps. Often, checking accounts or credit cards will be suspended if there is suspicious spending at an unusual location, even if you’ve already given your financial institutions advanced notice of your travels. Using these financial apps will help you catch any issues and remedy them quickly, so they don’t put a damper on your down-time.

Travel Apps

When you’re traveling, there are many moving pieces and logistics to keep track of, including public transportation, accommodation information and your overall itinerary. In a new place, there is a quick learning curve for understanding transportation systems. Travel around on public systems like a local, with the help of transportation apps. Most cities have specific apps for their bus and train transportation schedules and information about fares and passes. Download the apps for the accommodation services you’re using, like Expedia, Kayak or Airbnb, so you have all your hotel or homestay information at your fingertips. These apps will help you quickly look up check in and check out times, accommodation addresses and important contact info for the host or hospitality agents. Lastly, keep all reservations and important information in one, organized spot that will keep your itinerary in order. TripIt Travel Planner will create a master itinerary for you with all the important information you’ll need for your vacation for rental cars, airline tickets and more. The app will keep you from frantically searching your emails and help you travel without any headaches or stress.

Utilize apps and devices that will make you feel safe and secure, allowing you to monitor what you’ve temporarily left behind and help you effortlessly navigate a fun adventure. With proper planning and useful resources, you can easily achieve the worry-free vacation of your dreams.

Dubai is a bustling hotspot for tourism because of its impressive construction projects and thriving nightlife, yet many people have no idea where to begin looking for cool places to stay as they plan their visit. As exciting and enamoring as Dubai can be, foreigners with little experience in the area can have a rough go of things if they don’t thoroughly research things ahead of time so that they know what they’re getting into.

What should you know before you head to Dubai, and where should you stay and visit once you’ve gotten there? Here are the coolest places to stay in Dubai.

How to Find the Coolest Places To Stay In Dubai Your options are nearly limitless

The most important thing to establish when it comes to visiting Dubai is that there’s effectively something for everyone. Whether you’re a trendy young tourist looking to enjoy some fantastic clubs or an older visitor who wants to take in the ancient culture and customs of the area, your options are nearly limitless. You should begin by considering your beach-front options, as the sandy shores of Dubai are riddled with impressive beach residences which give you direct access to the waterfront.

Take the Jumeirah Beach Residence as one example; JBR is near one of Dubai’s most popular public beaches and is a fantastic place to stay as a tourist if you’re hoping to mingle with other adventurers. Given the large number of hotels in the area, it’s also quite easy for you to book a room on a relatively short notice there compared to other places. Before you head into the water to escape the summer heat, however, it’s worthwhile to read up on what to wear and expect when visiting a beach in Dubai.

If you want to stay in a local area devoid of popular restaurant chains so that you instead have to rely on local places to eat, consider checking out the Jumeirah Lake Towers. While many people consider this area to be strictly composed of office buildings and non-residential buildings, it’s actually jam-packed with local places that can make it quite exciting to visit as a tourist. Those sick and tired of modern, sleek-looking skyscrapers could alternatively opt for a visit to Dubai Creek, an old neighborhood which harkens back to the area’s earliest days. For a truly authentic experience, scouting out Dubai Creek is a must.

No matter where you go, staying up to date on Dubai property news is essential, especially if you’re considering picking up some property in the area. After all, learning about lowered prices or burgeoning development plans could help you visit an area right as it’s hitting its stride and developing into a supercenter of future tourism and growth.

Don’t forget the real tourist destinations

While figuring out where to stay, it would be a terrible mistake to ignore some of the more classic tourist destinations that don’t necessarily offer housing but are nonetheless worthy of your time and attention. The famous Burj Khalifa, for instance, is a must-see for anyone visiting Dubai, as a failure to check out the world’s tallest building could haunt you for the rest of your days regardless of wherever else you roam to make up for it.

Taking a Dubai desert safari is also highly advisable if you want to see the natural splendor of this area that made it so alluring to developers all those years ago, when the presently-glittering city was still underdeveloped and brimming with potential. As always, you should thoroughly vet your tour providers for safety reasons before picking a final option. If the desert heat isn’t to your liking, visiting the famous Dubai Mall will offer you one of the most luxurious and modern experiences of your life; ice-skating rinks, entertainment centers, food courts, and more awaits any tourist with the cash to afford a lovely day of shopping and splendor.

The older side of Dubai is well worth experiencing, too; the Satwa District will give you a glimpse into the cultural life in Dubai, and while the architecture there isn’t necessarily hyper-modern and towering, it’s nonetheless beautiful and all the more alluring because it’s often older than the more modern, steel constructions that dot the beach fronts of Dubai. Al Fahidi is a historical district which can help you harken back to the days of yore, too, so if older architectural designs and Arabic culture is something you love, don’t miss out on that area.

Finally, always do your homework on local cultures and customs before making a trip to Dubai. A lovely tourist destination, it’s nonetheless not quite as socially liberal as many in the West would like, so tourist mustn’t fool themselves into thinking Dubai is something that it isn’t. A wondrous city of impressive construction projects that’s jam-packed with expats, Dubai is nevertheless socially conservative in the eyes of many Westerners. Prepare adequately for that fact, however, and you’ll have no trouble at all enjoying the wondrous sites on your forthcoming stay in Dubai.

People around the world travel for various reasons, some travel for the memories, some travel to rest, some travel for adventure. Some for business and others!….. for fun. If, and if your only reason for travelling is either business or rest, then this article is not for you, because in this article, we are going to be exploring the things you can do to make your trip in this beautiful heaven a memorable and pleasant one.

You may be wondering—-why Cancun?—–well, the answer—–answers to that, are as follows

There is so much activity for both young and old, thereby making it a suitable destination for families and singles as well.

There are lots of natives that speak very very good English, so communication wouldn’t be a problem.

There are so many tourist infrastructures in place. Like good roads, decent accommodations, tours, maps, security and many more things we are still going to talk about in this article.

Omg!!! You can’t even begin to imagine how beautiful their beaches are, and to top that off, is an amazing, almost all-year favourable weather.

At this juncture, I will like to continue telling you about why Cancun is among the best places for a holiday by delving into fun and amazing things you can do to have a blast in Cancun.

Improve Your Cancun Visit by 50% – Mexico Travel Scuba diving:

You might be wondering why——or how—–scuba diving in Cancun is any different from scuba diving in other tourist locations around the world? I guess I will just have to answer that with a question. Do other scuba diving destinations have an underwater museum of the great Maya people buried under the sea? I guess not. Take this from someone who has been scuba-diving for some time, the experience of being underwater and swimming around stones and carvings where people used to live is a very fulfilling experience. As you glide through the water, different thoughts are racing through your head and you are asking questions like……100 years from now, will someone else thread where you have threaded and probably live where you have lived?…..not only that, you will also have a feeling of excitement mixed with gratitude for being able to partake from such an experience—- And this makes you somewhat cherish, even more, the life that you have

Windsurfing:

Surfing in Cancun is fun, simple and safe. I say this because I have been in situation, where there was an accident and the victim was still conscious and wanted to make a very important call be she passed out, but because they didn’t speak English, they couldn’t understand what she was saying, luckily for her, I was there to diffuse the whole situation. You cannot even begin to imagine what lack of proper communication can cause, and fortunately enough, 80 to 90% of locals in Cancun speak very good English. Plus this comes in handy when you require a certain or special type of gear.

Cave swimming:

Cancun happens to have wonderful nature crafted caves with beautiful, crystal clear waters. Natural views like these lack adequate words with enough resonance to describe or convey the emotions that run through your veins when they are experienced first hand. It is nothing short of marvellous. There is one fundamental fact that I am sure most people will agree with……. You can forget what someone said, hell—-you can even forget what a place really looks like….. But you can hardly ever forget how that place made you feel. That my friend is what these caves with water in Cancun, does to you.

Adventure tours:

Are you someone that is into adventures? you are definitely not left out, as there are many tours and excursions to choose from. Now the importance of having so many options at your disposal plays to your advantage because these make for competition between tour and travel agents trying to win you over, thereby forcing these agents to reduce prices and at the same offer so many all-inclusive packages that are in your favour. As economists will say, if the “supply is greater than demand, the prices will fall”.

Zip-lining:

I know that not everybody is willing to try this recreational adventure, but I will tell you point blank, that it is one of the exhilarating adrenaline activity you can ever be engaged in. It is one experience you will never forget in a hurry, I mean even years after doing this, you still get goosebumps when you remember all the emotions you felt at once. Normally humans experience one or two feelings at a time, because of how we are configured. It is either you are angry, jealous, happy or even angry and jealous at the same time, but with Ziplining, you are feeling everything at once. For one you are scared shitless, your whole life flashes in front of you——all your hopes, dreams, regrets, happiness….races through you…..you can even become hungry (movement in your bowels), you get cold and chills all over…..in a nutshell…..the feeling is just indescribable.

Cruise ship:

Lastly, if you are looking forward to having a chilling kinda experience with good live music, exotic seafood, beautiful scenery, or if you are looking for a good place for you and your spouse to have a great honeymoon experience, then I will recommend going on cruise ships in Cancun. Like I said earlier, there are so many cruise ship tours to choose from with different packages. Now the beautiful thing about Cancun is that it has different price ranges for different classes of people with different classes of taste. So whichever financial hierarchy you find yourself, there is definitely something for you in Cancun. The advice I will give you though, is to make sure you plan your trip or vacation way ahead of time, as there are many people from different parts of the world that are always trooping in, in numbers. So don’t be surprised, if and when you call to make reservations, you find out that is no space available, especially during summer, which the busiest time in Cancun. Also be aware, that regardless of whether it is summer or not. Cancun is always flooded with numerous tourists, after all, who doesn’t want to partake of the finer things in life

Guest Post by Federico Villatoro (Travel Experta’s husband)

I, Federico Villatoro, will be talking about an accident that we recently experienced with Brandon, my son, while climbing at the rock.

I will address exactly what happened and I will give tips so this doesn’t happen again to anybody.

My sons and I know the safety checks and commands.  We have been climbing for years, but this is when confidence worked against us.

Brandon led the first route we did that day called “No-no”, while I belayed him. We had the safety knot done for this route, with Keanu doing the double check of it.

* Safety knot is a very simple knot that you put at the end of the rope.\

Next Brandon moved on to the a harder route called “Techo3” and started working on that one while being belayed by a friend and I stayed behind to belay Keanu on “No-no”.

At that moment both ropes had safety knots at their ends. Brandon ran out of quickdraws lowered back down to wait for Keanu and me to finish climbing on Nono route. I retrieved the quickdraws from the first route and then tried the first half of Techo3. After a couple of tries it was Brandon’s turn so he could finish Techo3.

This is the moment when we, somehow, forgot to check again for the safety knot.

We were confident that the knot was still there, like it was, a little while before. We believe, that when Brandon started this try, the end with the safety knot was that he chose to attach it to the harness with figure-eight knot, leaving the other end without any knot.

When he finished Techo3, I was lowering him with a gri -gri and when he was close to the ground, the end of the rope passed thru the gri gri letting Brandon fall around 6 meters.

He fell to the ground, bounced off a few rocks. Hit his head and ended up unconscious for what seemed like an eternity (but realistically calculating around 7 seconds).

This is a similar accident that happened to Alex Honnold as he was setting up a top rope for his girlfriend and her parents. They had been climbing on a route with one rope. Then, changed rope on the same route, and the rope was different length. They were confident that the length of the route was shorter than the rope, but they didn’t know the second rope was in fact a few meters shorter. Confident in their rope measurements, they forgot to check for the safety knot and as they lowered him, he fell several meters ending up with a compression fracture on his lumbar vertebrae.

Not that this helped us when Brandon was rushed to the hospital. However, once he was fully recovered it did help us know that even some of the most experienced climbers in the world make these mistakes.

It is also important to mention that wearing a helmet (or not) is not the most important safety measure to prevent this kind of accident. But a helmet needs to be worn at all times!

However, the cause of these kind of accidents is the lack of consistency. The use of the helmet is recommended for preventing material falling from higher places (usually small rocks) hitting you but with a fall like this, it can help make the difference between a concussion, skull fracture to simply a strong hit.

This kind of accident happens when there is not a consistency in going over the 5 Safety Checks:

5 Safety Checks Every Climber MUST Do Before EVERY Climb
  1.      Double check harness buckles

  2.      Figure Eight Tie-in and Safety knot

  3.      Check your belayers harness (as in #1)
  4.      Check the belay system
  5.      Go thru Starting commands

#1 Mistake made by climbers – to not use a helmet

#2 Mistake made by climbers – to forget to check their safety knots.

In conclusion it is important to always check the belayer, the rope and your harness. Just because you feel confident doesn’t mean you shouldn’t check the rope because it could happen to anyone even Alex Honnold – you might have heard of him from the latest movie ‘Free Solo’

The Caribbean offers a seemingly endless range of activities. Children can enjoy features like sunny beaches, resort water parks, and vibrant botanical gardens but traveling to the islands with children is undoubtedly more challenging than going with an adults-only party. Streamline your trip to accommodate individuals of all ages with these smart tips for tackling the Caribbean with kids.

Image via Flickr by gailhampshire

Travel Tips – How to Tackle a Caribbean Family Vacation Find the Right Beaches

Hitting the beach with kids in tow presents a unique set of challenges and concerns. Seek out safe beaches where you don’t have to worry as much about strong waves, painful coral, and other hazards for small children. Palm Beach in Aruba, Seven Mile Beach in Grand Cayman, and Vigie Beach in St. Lucia all offer calm waters.

More adventurous families with older children can seek out exciting beach activities to keep young travelers engaged. The Boatyard beach club in Barbados features a floating island platform and trampoline to take watery fun to a new level. St. Lucia’s Pigeon Island is home to a pirate’s cave and the remains of a naval base for additional kid-friendly adventure.

Try Buffet Dining

Getting the kids to eat can be a struggle even at home, but foreign foods can be even trickier if you have picky eaters. Keep your kids well-fed by seeking out Caribbean dining with yummy options they’re likely to recognize and love. Unwilling to sacrifice local specialties for yourself? Try the inclusive Caribbean resort buffets, which often feature kid-friendly favorites like pasta, chicken, and ice cream alongside adult delights like grilled meats, fresh fish, and island specialties. These flexible dining destinations really do have something for everyone.

Choose a Resort With Child Care

Family time in the Caribbean can include activities like snorkeling, sandcastle-building, and turtle-watching. However, there are some activities that are better enjoyed by adults alone. Book an inclusive Caribbean resort with childcare so you can take a break for spa services, kite surfing, or an afternoon beside the pool bar.

The all-inclusive Coconut Bay Resort offers after-hours childcare and an outstanding kids program. Parents can sign their children up for the CocoLand Kidz Klub where they’re supervised by trained professionals and provided a schedule overflowing with fun, age-appropriate activities like nature walks, games, and crafts.

Make a Flexible Schedule

Resist the temptation to fill every minute of your day with Caribbean excursions. Keep your schedule to one major activity each day and fill the rest of the time with flexible options that are easy to move about as the mood demands. Include nap time in the afternoon even for children who have aged out of napping at home. The sun and sand can tire kids out quickly. Plan to return to the room midday for a snack and quiet time and you can avoid the strain of overtired family members.

Visiting the Caribbean with kids can be an exciting and rewarding experience when you plan ahead. Pick activities and options that the whole family can enjoy, but leave room to experience the laid-back lifestyle of the Caribbean on your family vacation.

Travelling, especially long distances, can get pretty boring whether you’re alone or with friends and family. Seeing the same scenery hour after hour when you go from point A to point B can be exhausting, so it’s important to keep yourself entertained to make time pass quickly. They say that the journey is more important than the destination, but those who say that have clearly not travelled on trains that passed by nothing but fields for the entire duration of the journey. With the advent of electronic devices, it is easier than ever today to be occupied with different apps and games. A mix of traditional gaming activities and new ones are sure to keep you from falling asleep in the backseat of a long road trip.

  1. Story Time

This is the classic game of an unending story, where the first player starts by saying a sentence, and ends with “and…”. It moves on to the next player, who adds one more sentence, and says “and…” to continue the story. In some versions, the players each can narrate four or five lines before stopping at an important part and hand over the story to the next player. This is a great game because it is suited for both kids and adults, and also for two players, since there’s no need for four or more, as is the case with many board games. Ideally, the game ends when the destination is reached.

  1. Would You Rather

The beauty of this game is that it is available as an app and it is also possible to play it without a mobile device. The premise is to present to the players two completely unlikely and imaginative scenarios, both of which have some sort of catch. The players will have to choose between the two situations what they would rather do. If you feel like you can’t come up with scenarios on your own, you can download many versions of this game for free as an app on your phone.

  1. Did You Hear That?

This is a points-based game, which is talks about recent events and pop culture. One person starts by saying, “did you hear that?” and adds a news story which is either real or fake. The other players will say “that did not happen” or “tell me more” depending on whether they believe the story. If the player is right, they get two points, and if they’re not, the person with the news gets to steal one point and get two more.

  1. Heads Up! or 20 Questions

This is another game which can be played on a device or traditionally. In the traditional version, called 20 Questions, one of the players thinks of something in a given category (such as food, celebrities, music, so on), and the others have to use 20 questions to ask about the thing. The player who guesses within the 20 questions wins. In the app version, the phone already provides the subject in a category, and a player is chosen who can’t see the phone but guess what is on the screen. The other participants give them as many clues as possible to help them guess in a time frame.

  1. Online Poker

Sometimes, you’re not lucky enough to be travelling long distance with others to keep you company, but you might be more thrilled about that if you knew that there are simple ways to make money on the go. There are websites where you can play real money online slots, roulette and blackjack which are all highly entertaining and really easy get into when you’re looking for something quick. Not only will you be killing time by playing casino games, but you can also earn cash so you’ll be utilizing the time more wisely. While playing, remember to only trust reliable gambling and casino sites like CasinosRealMoney.com who are verified and run by gambling experts.

  1. Fortunately/Unfortunately

The rules of this game are simple: one person opens with a situation and makes it fortunate, and the next makes something unfortunate about the previous situation. The players alternate the with “fortunately…” and “unfortunately…”. The last person standing when the other players cannot think of ways to further the game is the winner.

  1. The Foodie Game

This one is a little different, as this game doesn’t really involve being busy while you’re travelling somewhere, but doing so when you’re actually experiencing your trip. The goal is to collect as many regional foods as possible on your trip, from the beginning to the end. This could be a locally grown food item at a supermarket, food stop, or a gas station. It’s not a matter of who collects the most that wins, but the one with the most locally made food succeeds.

  1. Never Have I Ever

Although the traditional way of playing this game is to present a “never have I ever…” situation and taking a sip of your alcoholic drink if you have ever, having booze on a journey isn’t ideal, especially if you’re on a road trip and the one driving the car. There is, however, a card game which is better to play on the go. The Never Have I Ever card game has rule cards and play cards, and the first player to get 10 play cards – meaning they have, in fact, participated in the scenarios mentioned in the play cards – wins.

  1. Chain Game

This is a good game for those travelling in large groups, as it’s simple, light and fun. A person picks the name of a celebrity, and the next one will have to come up with another famous name with the last name of the first celebrity. It should keep going smoothly, and those who stumble or take too long are out. If someone mentions a person with the same letter for the first and the last name, the game reverses.

  1. Word Association Game

For those who are aspiring to be wordsmiths, this game can keep the group at it for a long time. The idea is to start by choosing a random word, any word at all, and then the next person will say something that is associated with it (“desert” followed by “suntan lotion”). The game ends when a player takes too long or associates something which is far off.
