15 reasons Rosemary essential oil should be your new obsession

If you start singing, “parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme” whenever we mention rosemary, you should spend more time with Rosemary essential oil. Steam-distilled from the needle-like leaves of the Rosmarinus officinalis plant, Rosemary oil brings a fresh, woodsy aroma to everything it touches. But this hardworking herb is more than an earthy scent.

What do you use Rosemary oil for?

The better question is what don’t you use Rosemary for? Infuse everything from your hair care routine to your homemade cleaners with this oil’s complex, robust, energizing aroma.

1. Make a hydrating hair mask.

Warm 2 tablespoons coconut oil and 1 tablespoon honey for about 15 seconds in the microwave. Add 3 drops Rosemary oil and mix together. Apply to the hair shaft, especially the ends, put on a shower cap, and let it sit for 30 minutes. Rinse out the mask, then wash and dry hair as usual.

2. Turn the shower into a spa.

Add 1 drop of Rosemary essential oil to the center of an Easy Breeze Awakening Shower Steamer for an extra-invigorating showertime boost!

3. Battle head tension.

Make our DIY head tension roll-on  using Peppermint essential oil, Rosemary essential oil, and M-Grain essential oil blend.

4. Give bugs the brush-off.

Win the war on bugs while enjoying the great outdoors. Use our Insect Repellent—infused with Rosemary, CitronellaLemongrass, and other essential oils—to naturally repel bugs. It smells good to people, but not so much to pests.

5. Whip up a savory snack.

Add Rosemary Vitality to hummus and pair with carrots, sliced bell peppers, or pita chips for a light, flavorful snack.

6. Take a breather from blemishes.

Is Rosemary oil good for skin? As one of the ingredients in our Maximum Strength Acne Treatment, Rosemary works with FrankincenseTea Tree, Manuka, and other oils to fight blemishes.

7. Show your scalp some TLC.

Massage a dime-sized amount of V-6, 2 drops Rosemary essential oil, and 2 drops Tea Tree essential oil into your scalp. Let sit for 10 minutes before rinsing. You’ll love the refreshing aroma, and your hair will love the attention.

Tip: Can you use Rosemary essential oil directly on the scalp?

Yes! Show your locks some love by adding a few drops of Rosemary essential oil to your favorite hair care products.

8. Clean your heart out!

Spritz away stinky odors and sticky counters with a Rosemary-infused DIY cleaner. Combine 1 capful Thieves® Household Cleaner, 2 drops Rosemary, 2 drops Lemon, and 2 cups water in a glass spray bottle.

9. Get rolling on a great massage.

Re-energize your day by indulging in a mini massage! Create a custom massage oil roll-on with an empty 15 ml bottle and an AromaGlide Roller Fitment. The roller makes it easy to apply to knees, lower back, and neck.

Have you ever smelled fresh-baked bread, caught a whiff of perfume as someone walked by, or sniffed the scent of fresh flowers and found yourself instantly transported to a different time or place? Scents are powerful—they can transport us to different places, remind us of people, and trigger memories long forgotten. And through the practice of aromatherapy, scents can also support whole-life wellness. Whether you use essential oils in aromatherapy during bedtime, bathtime, or anytime you need a little TLC, their power-packed aromas are all about promoting overall well-being.

Aromatherapy is the practice of using essential oils topically and aromatically for overall wellness. Essential oils are a highly concentrated, natural oil produced from botanicals such as flowers, trees, roots, and seeds. According to the Mayo Clinic, the scents from these potent, plant-based products “target smell receptors in the nose, triggering effects that pass through the nervous system to the brain.” Those effects can help your body, mind, and emotional well-being in many ways. When using essential oils for aromatherapy, it’s important to choose pure, high-quality oils. Find out where your oils come from  and the testing they go through to make sure they meet the highest standards. You want to get the most out of every drop of essential oil during your aromatherapy practice, so do your research!

When people hear the word aromatherapy, they usually think of using essential oils aromatically—and for good reason! Diffusers disperse tiny oil droplets into the air, allowing you to easily surround yourself with the soothing scent of Lavender or the stimulating scent of Citrus Fresh. But you can also use oils topically in an aromatherapy practice! Apply a drop of Rosemary essential oil on your pressure points and enjoy its energizing aroma. Or add a few drops of Ylang Ylang to your massage oil to amp up the spa-like vibes. No matter your method, you’re harnessing the power of aromatherapy with essential oils!

The benefits of aromatherapy are as varied as the constituents in essential oils. You can use aromatherapy for a more luxurious bathtime, a more relaxing bedtime, or a more energized work environment. Here are 10 different ways you can use essential oils for aromatherapy. The list includes over 60 different oils and oil blends—try them all and you’ll be an aromatherapy expert!

Whether you start your diffuser the moment you wake up, put a drop of oil on your wrists as you head out the door, or incorporate essential oils into your massage routine, aromatherapy can be great for your mood. Here are a few oils you can try when you need a little change in outlook.

    • Geranium
    • Jade Lemon

    • Gentle Baby
    • Lavender
    • Patchouli
    • Tangerine

We’re firm believers in taking time for self-care. Aromatherapy during bathtime can soothe the body and the soul. Using essential oils in the bath is easy! Add 5-8 drops directly to the water as the tub fills or make your own bath salts or bath bombs. For extra luxury—and moisture for your skin—mix 5-8 drops of oil in 2 tablespoons of V-6 or coconut oil before adding to your bathwater.

    • Citrus Fresh
    • Eucalyptus Radiata
    • Hinoki

Our bodies need sleep to stay healthy and happy—establishing a healthy nighttime routine is key! According to the Mayo Clinic, research suggests that incorporating aromatherapy during bedtime can help trigger your brain to know that it’s time to snooze. You can go simple by adding a couple drops of your favorite settle-down scent to a cotton ball, or you can mix the oil in a spray bottle with distilled water and spritz it on your pillow.

Whether the smell of your homemade curry likes to stick around or your car stinks like soccer practice, essential oils are rock stars when it comes to eliminating odors. Have a big project coming up? Dealing with reluctant homework-doers? Need to concentrate on a major goal? Find your focus with aromatherapy! The aromas of some essential oils can help create an environment that inspires you to get things done.

If your goals are total wellness and a more relaxed life, you probably have similar goals for your kids. Little ones can benefit from aromatherapy, but it’s a little different than aromatherapy for grownups. Before you get started, take some time to learn about the proper way to dilute essential oils for children and babies. Diffusing oils is pretty safe, but you’ll want to take some precautions when applying them topically.

I don’t know about you, but I LOVE chocolate. Some people have a “sweet” tooth, but I have a “chocolate” tooth. I think chocolate goes with all things, at all times, any day of the week!

That’s why I’ve been really enjoying making this delicious organic cacao avocado banana mousse in my VitaMix. I make a big batch and munch on it spoonful by spoonful for days. (This is only made possible by hiding it from my children)

Don’t be scared by the ingredients, you can’t even taste the avocado. For real. Honestly I think it makes it taste even richer and creamier than the “real thing!”

So next time you need a healthy chocolate fix, whip up some of this super easy, creamy dreamy cacao wonder. (then be sure to hide it away from the rest of the family)

    Organic Avocado Banana Chocolate Mousse

    (Double for a big batch!)

    2 organic ripe avocados, peeled

    1 organic banana, peeled

1/4 cup organic cacao powder ( I like Navitas Naturals)

1/4 cup organic raw cream, organic coconut water, or organic coconut milk

5-6 organic pitted dates, or 1/8-1/4 cup organic coconut nectar or organic raw honey

Using a VitaMix or other high powered blender, blend all ingredients together. Use the “tamper” on the VitaMix to ensure everything gets evenly stirred. Blend until creamy, silky and smooth!

Top with organic raspberries, blueberries, organic nuts, or just dig in and enjoy!

With lots of love, and for your extraordinary health,

    Catherine Slezinger
