Zoeva Cocoa Blend Palette First Impressions & Demo - YouTube

A deep but short and snappy product review on this palette, should be up when this blog post goes up, I'll put a link to it here once it's ready!

A little somethin' somethin' on the eyes finishes off the entire face when complete with a lipstick. I've always loved the sight of eye shadows with their intricate compact cases with hidden compartments. It's like a treasure trove of pressed colored powders. The reminiscence of an 80's kid, me!

Fast forward to current date, eye shadows have refined their persona and color stories and of course, finishes! There are plenty in the market from lower to extreme high priced palettes. Zoeva in particular is a personal favorite brand of makeup brushes while I have a change of heart now. It was not until recently I would have anticipated Zoeva to have an outstanding eye shadow palette.

I took advantage of a store wide discount late last year when I had chanced upon Zoeva's Cocoa Blend Kit (the kit contains an eye shadow palette, a blush and highlighting palette, a lip pencil and a liquid lipstick), quite a number of products in this kit and it was really hard to pass so I grabbed while the discount lasted.

The eye shadow by itself comes with a moderate price tag of SGD 39.00 on the Sephora's official site. The kit was for SGD 76.00 and you can tell that it's at a great value! I was excited to check the palette out to see if it's really worth all the rave, it's been getting!

The eye shadow and face palette came in their individual sleeves and it each shade contains 1.5gms and there are a total of ten shades in this palette (4 mattes and 6 shimmer/foiled finishes) As I got done swatching and playing with the shadows to get a feel of the texture and color pay-off, I was stunned!

My absolute favorite foil finish is found in this palette and that is Pure Ganache, it's like 'moist gold' in an eye shadow form, I don't know how it's possible! The foiled and shimmer finishes has better color pay-off when picked up with fingers instead of brushes (probably the warmth of our fingers aids in lifting the compact shadow better)

The matte shades tend to have a tiny bit of dust especially with the darkest brown shade in the palette, noticeably similar with most matte shades in the market.

The colors play off and balance well with each other from this palette, I also enjoy the contrast between the neutral and cool undertones paired in this color story. Overall, I would recommend this palette for beginners (students and makeup beginners)

There's plenty of play opportunities with colors that makes it perfect for office makeup and students with it's neutral tones. You can definitely jazz your look up even further from office to after work parties and transition to a wedding guest look. This palette really is highly versatile.

I see how this palette can work across different complexions yet if your foundation shade is deeper than NC 42 and above, you may have to reach for transition shades outside of this palette. Another unique shade that I found to be of interest to me is 'Infusion' not a cool stark black but a charcoal grey-ish black that has gold and green sparkles in it that I foresee it to look stunning with different eye bases.

You can go for a black base for an intense sparkly smoke-y eye or experiment with different eye base shades.

A great buy and so, the next time you pass by a Sephora outlet.. Just go in for a swatch fest and I let you decide from the swatches to pick this eye shadow palette up or not! It's a gorgeous palette especially if you're South Asian and even if you're not!

That's it for today's blog post, I hope you found this review to be useful! If you did enjoy it, please don't forget to pin this post up on Pinterest and share it with your makeup junkies and friends.

I shall catch you very soon, in my next blog post!

Pongal will soon be upon us, as it's already the 11th Jan '19, Friday. Pongal is essentially a Tamil Festival to be quite similar to Thanksgiving. It's a three day festival where we, Tamilians pay respect to the Sun, the farmers, agricultural land and the farm animals.

This festival is a big deal in Tamil Nadu and other Tamilians living abroad. The significance is plentiful yet I and a Makeup Artiste decided to put a different spin on this festival to take it further by incorporating two makeup looks, complete with hair and outfits.

Pongal or otherwise known as Makar Sankranti is also a time for women and young women often dressed in sarees (our traditional outfits for special events such as these)

Hence, this collaboration brings you two looks. One is from the black/white era inspired by the late Actress Savithri. I had the pleasure of working with a Singapore based Tamil Makeup Artiste, Gayeathri!

We had met late last December for a collaborative idea and brainstorming usually is a lot of fun. Gayeathri shared this idea of incorporating a look from the late 60's. Take a minute to check out Gayeathri's Instagram profile @sai_gayeathri and let her know I sent you!

If you'd like to see the complete look coming together, click the link below;

Pongal Collab Special, Savithri Inspired Makeup Look - YouTube

Gayeathri has kept the look simplistic and paid attention to fuller eyebrows, a thick eyeliner and a deeper shade for the lips. This is to keep in mind during black and white cinema, these features were more emphasized as there were no colour films introduced then.

The hair is neatly combed with a center part with two strands of curly hair bits to frame the face. Most actresses from the 60's sport a center part or a slight bouffant back then. Bigger bindi/pottu were preferred during this era.

Actresses and regular women sported simple patterns for their sarees with temple accessories. Sarees had a close fit to the body and saree pleats were looking sharp and are usually pleated across the shoulders.

I hope you enjoyed this makeup look today, tomorrow we have a modern look that's closely inspired by Nayanthara. Keep a look out for that!

Since it's the year end School Holidays, it is only appropriate for an extra breakfast for the kids because they deserve it! If they've been good in school and their grades have been good, I don't see why they're not entitled to a sweet treat with their first meal of their day.

The only thing I would change would be swapping to paper cups (or the muffin cupcake bases) instead of silicone muffin trays. The muffins somehow looked/tasted different. I can't quite say for a fact why is it so.

Make sure to not leave the muffins in the oven for more than 15 mins or else they may turn out a little dry. To be sure that they are cooked to perfection, insert a toothpick in one of the muffins at the 13th minute to see if the toothpicks comes out clean.

The paper cups would definitely come in handy making the muffins travel friendly and somehow amp up the flavor. I usually bake mine in those cup bases and they've been significantly more tasty, just this time with the silicone tray. The muffins also had a glossy finish as you can tell from the pictures taken.
It's the 20th December and before you know it, Christmas will soon be here. It's about time to start making your festive treats and store them away to enjoy them in less than a week's time.

That's all for today, I shall catch you very soon in my next post!

It's been quite a while since I last filmed myself getting ready for an event and so I thought to myself, just film the makeup process while getting ready for Tarte's Workshop last Saturday at WestGate Sephora!

That's exactly what I did! I went for a semi-casual outfit that had a midi dress, my recent favorite type that has very minimal effort and looks great with almost any shoe. If you would like to watch me Get Ready with a voice-over then click on the video below;

Get Ready with Me Makeup | TheLeiaV - YouTube

Recently, I've been reaching out for any dark brown eye shadow from any palette that I would be using for my eyes for my brows. I kinda like how the brows overall match the eye shadow look, very cohesive I must say! If I go for a warm neutral, I have dark brown brows with a slight warm hue. I like it!

The full list of products used to create this makeup look, is listed below;

Face
  • Catrice Prime and Fine Smoothing Refiner
  • Sephora Collection Full Coverage Longlasting Concealer in Almond
  • Colourpop No Filter Concealer in Medium 26
  • Fenty Beauty Pro Filt'r Foundation in 310

Eyes & Brows
  • Tarte Tease Eyeshadow Palette (Heartbreaker)
  • Sephora Collection Full Coverage Longlasting Concealer in Almond
  • Urban Decay Born to Run Eyeshadow Palette (Weekender, Stillshot, Baja, Wanderlust, Punk and Breakaway)
  • Sugar Eye Told you So! Black Eyeliner
  • Rimmel London Kohl Kajal in Nude
  • Catrice All Round Mascara in Black

Lips
  • Maybelline Color Jolt Matte Intense Lip Paint in Show Off Nude
  • NYX Suede Lipliner in Toulouse

The Urban Decay is a palette that I have been reaching out for often when I am not filming, it's quite a versatile palette. I've just been coordinating my lip color according to the palette's story. Now, I guess you get my recent lip shade selections.

India! India has an amazing selection of great beauty products that are of high quality at affordable price ranges. I almost feel like I want to pack everything up and settle down in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Not joking, I am seriously considering this idea.

I miss my light neutral peach lip shades a bit now and so I reached for my handy Maybelline lip paint in a neutral undertone that will not compete too much with the heavy eye shadow look.

I really hope you enjoy reading through this blog post and if you'd like, feel free to sign up for notifications for this Blog. Instant updates whenever new posts go up on this Blog!

I wish you a Happy Mid December and in two weeks or less, we're going to be hit with a confetti shower of Christmas and then it'll be New Year's Eve. Ahaha! We need to slow down anyhoo, catch you soon in my next post!

Since it's the year end holiday season, I had decided to tick off some products I've been wanting to try out for the longest time ever. In particular Zoeva eyeshadow palettes, I have been hearing so much raves on their various palettes and I can't quite pinpoint the reason why it took me this long to get on the Zoeva bandwagon.

I have been a huge long time fan of their makeup brushes, they are of great value for money, amazing quality and super soft on the skin, easy to maintain. I probably need to sit myself down and make a lengthy review on their brushes alone.

If you'd like to watch me explain and demonstrate more about the Zoeva Cocoa Blend Kit, click the link below;
Zoeva Cocoa Blend Palette First Impressions & Demo - YouTube

Let's come back to the cocoa blend palette, I decided to make use of the Black Friday discount offered at Sephora and snagged this baby. This is the Zoeva Cocoa Blend Kit, it comes in a set of four products mainly,

The cocoa blend eyeshadow palette draws inspirations from truffles and marzipan with complementing peach bush and champagne highlight with a finishing touch of a mauve-y lip shade. I can't help but notice how beautiful the packaging almost like a saree with it's diamond print across the palette. The eyeshadow palette does not come with a mirror and that's the only draw back. It has a regular cardboard type of packaging which I am not mad as it's light on the hand.

The two palettes are slim, sturdy, easy to pack and definite travel friendly makeup products. You just have to throw in a hand size compact mirror in case you forgot that they don't have attached mirrors. The cocoa blend eyeshadow palette has ten shades in total, four matte and the rest are of satin and slightly shimmer shades depending on how you apply the shadows.

If you're an eyeshadow junkie, this palette may excite you. I love the warm neutral shadows and this would look amazing on medium skin complexions for that natural effortless look. If you're on the paler spectrum of complexions the colors obviously would pop a lot better on your snow white skin. I see how this palette can work across many complexions with it's neutral base.

The rest of the kit contains the face palette with a pretty peach blush with a sheen finish and a gorgeous champagne highlight with a lip pencil and a liquid lipstick in a dusty mauve-y shade that has subtle berry and magenta undertone to it.

I got to say that I was pleasantly surprised at the intensity of the shades as well as how they layer well. All products from the Cocoa Blend kit blended effortlessly with no skipping observed.

My first impressions about the liquid lipstick is that it's texture reminds me of the Sephora Cream Lipstain range. It glided with ease on the lips and delivered one swipe color, there was no need to re-dip the applicator for a second coat of lip color. The complementing lip pencil though I feel could have been one or two shades darker for visibility purpose. The lip liner by itself I feel was too light due to my pigmented lips, it almost blends into my natural lip color that would be troublesome as I do need a tiny bit of help in the lining of my lips.

This kit retails for SGD 70.00 at Sephora, the palette alone retails for SGD 39.00 thus I think the kit would pack a greater value. If you're looking to gift a couple of makeup junkies, you can for sure get away with three gifts from this value pack.

Let me know if you'd like a in-depth review on this particular kit and I'll be glad to do one for you! That's it for today's post, I shall catch you very soon in my next video!
