Today is my 39th Birthday and as always I find myself being extremely reflective as I celebrate another year on Earth. If I'm can be honest, I'm in no way, shape or form where I thought I would be at this age. Yet at the same time, I regret nothing. If I never made the decisions I made I would never be the person I am today. And I have fallen in love this this incredibly flawed creature that I am
Over the past few weeks I've received so many hidden and not so hidden messages about manifesting the things you want in your life. I listened to pod cast and sermons on creating list to put your desires into the universe, and understanding that you are equipped you need to be successful. Its as almost as if the universe was conspiring to help me come to a few conclusions and to stop dragging my feet on key decisions that I've been avoiding like the plague. Often times I find myself getting anxious over making the right decisions, getting lost in the what could go wrong that I forget to just do it!
So as I prepare to make my 40th trip around the sun, I decided to create a list of 40 things I want to do before I turn 40. Cliche I know, but it was incredibly important for me to put somethings into the universe. Things that I have been scared to act on, things I forgot I wanted to do, things that I never thought I could accomplish. Is it entirely possible that I won't get these things done? Absolutely! It's also possible that I will do each and everyone of them!
Take a solo vacation
Decide where I want to live ( I have been dragging this one out)
Embrace more change
Be open to more possibilities
Spend Thanksgiving volunteering
Go skinny dipping (Sorry Mom)
Go to Paris
Buy a Chanel Bag
Exercise at least 3 days a week (consistently)
Stop shying away from compliments
Participate in a marathon (notice I said participate, not run)
Take a spontaneous road trip
Go to the Georgia Aquarium
Invest in the stock market
Start a book club
learn how to put on false lashes
Go on a date to the drive-in movies
Learn how to cook more
Plan a trip to somewhere with snow
Dye my hair (I haven't done that in years)
Don't let money get in the way of taking leaps of faith
Lead a Small Group at Church
Increase my savings
Dust off my Spanish speaking skills
Stop so much spontaneous spending on clothes
Have a blogging/fashion event
Get a second ear piercing (sorry again Mom)
Write my business plan out
Take my vitamins daily (this is a struggle)
Rad 50 books this year
Host a dinner party
Plant a garden
See the Northern Lights (Hopefully in Iceland)
Go on a spiritual retreat
Learn how to play spades
Be comfortable telling people no
Buy myself a piece of jewelry (diamond preferably)
One of the joys of having a blog is the built in accountability you get from putting intentions into the Universe. I am grateful for those of you who join on this journey. For those of you who have helped me accomplish so much. I am blessed beyond measure.
True story when I was in Lane Bryant shopping for this dress, a man tried to convince his wife to try on one of the polka dot dresses that I ended up leaving the store with and she absolutely refused. I could hear her whisper I would never wear that much print. I sighed and imagined having a Stacey London moment with her in the dressing room, but I could tell she was terrified to try the polka dots. Of course the antiquated rules of fashion have ingrained in so many women that the less print the better, I absolutely refuse to follow this rule. I will wear whatever print I want, whenever I want. Honestly even if I wore all black from head to toe I would still look like I was size 22, cause I am.
Now that my rant is over, this year is truly the year of the polka dot. I am soooo very happy to see one of my favorite prints in full effect all over the place. I'm also really happy to see the plus-size market on trend, on time for once. It's nice to be fashionable at the same time is everyone else! I went in Lane Bryant a few weeks ago and fell in love with two dresses and almost picked between the two, but my Instagram followers made me see reason and I bought both dresses. Because honestly I would have regretted not buying them. This one was so fun and I loved the two sizes of polka dot and the fact that it can be worn dressy or casually.
I went with a size 22/24, for a little bit of room, but the 18/20 fit fine as well. Since polka dots are so classic I know won't regret going a bit over board adding items to my collection. Have you bought any polka dot pieces this summer? How do you feel about them? Below I've added a few other polka dot items that I've picked up this summer so far.
Let me start off by saying I'm sorry for this post in advance. This dress is more thank likely sold out and for that I'm really sorry. It's been returning back to stock weekly, so there is still a chance you could pick it up. It's always a blogger's nightmare to post about something that sold out, but I love these shots so much, and this dress to I wanted to share it with y'all.
A few summers ago I saw a favorite blogger of mine wearing a dress like this, and when I saw pictures of Gabrielle Union floating around in one, I hoped and prayed the NY& Co XXL would fit (and that was a super strong prayer y'all). As soon as I realized it was coming in plus sizes I jumped all over it! When I say I jumped all over it. I stopped what I was doing (driving) and bought this dress. My biggest fear was what size I needed, but after consulting the size chart I went with the 3x.
Whenever a brand launches a plus collection, the first thing I do is go and look at the size chart. Since I shop online so much, I rely heavily on size charts. I also keep tape measures everywhere (office, house, car) so I can get my measurements periodically. My midsection is heavier than my upper body and legs I solely purchase based on that part of my body. When I looked online I could tell in pictures that this dress was fitted in the middle and loose up top so I ordered my size accordingly. There is nothing worse that ordering a size and having it fit everywhere, expect for where you need it to fit. So shopping for my hips and tummy are important for me.
It was a huge sigh of relief when it fit exactly the way I wanted it! Maybe that was a squeal or scream hmmm. I know it was happiness! This dress will live in my closet forever y'all. I do mean forever. Again I'm sorry if you didn't get it! We are going to keep our eye out for restocking and returns. I have seen several of my fellow influencers wear this dress and it hasn't looked bad on anyone, not anyone.
What part of your body do you shop for? Mine has changed it used to be my chest area, but now it's shifted to my midsection. Tell me all about it! Thank you for reading! You are appreciated. J
When your schedule get’s super busy it’s so hard to decide if you have time for a vacation or if a staycation might do the trick! Don’t get me wrong I love a vacation, but when I need a quick get away or some time to myself a simple staycation will do the trick. No matter which one you choose having some downtime is extremely important. I’ve partnered with Babblebox to bring share with you a few products that are perfect for a vacay or a staycay!
Now y’all know I love a great subscription box, especially when it exposes me to new products that I think are amazing! Here is a peak at what’s in the box:
Not sure about y’all but the first thing I do when I get home is take off my bra and put on something comfortable. The first item in my box was the Bali Comfort Revolution Bra from Bali Intimates, now comes with cool comfort fabric that wicks moister and helps to keep you cool and comfortable. It’s seamless design gives you complete comfort and it’s super flexible. Cause who wants to be uncomfortable while they are relaxing. I got an XL in this bra so I wasn’t able to try it, but it looks and feels amazing!
Self-care for me always involves peace and skin care. There is nothing I love more than a beauty treatment. Bellame: Acqua Lumiere Hydrating Moisturizer and & Eye Cream Both are lightweight moisturizer that you can use both night and day to target fine lines and wrinkles. The eye cream helps with puffiness and after a few weeks I saw a huge difference in the fine lines that are developing around my face and eyes. I am a huge fan of anything with hyaluronic acid, especially since I have dry skin. I would recommend this for anyone who is concerned with aging or who has dry skin. You can go to www.bellame.com to learn more about the product.
Along with skin care, hair care is my second favorite self-care practice. With the OMM Thickening Hair Mask & Oil. The hair mask is thick, rich and super conditioning. The Oil is a leave in treatment that is light, non-greasy and nourishing. After a day in the pool, slept in the oil treatment and my hair thanked me for taking the extra step. Both treatment are excellent for anyone who wants to thickening and treat their hair. For more info on the hair products go to www.OMMCollection.com
Who vacays without wine? Not me! Faustino I Gan Reserva, Bodega Faustino is Spain’s largest producer Gran Reserva wines. It is a wonderful blend of Tempranillo, Graciano & Mazuelo that ages 26 months in French and American oak barrels and at least 3 years in the bottle. It was soooo good! I mean I can’t say how good it was! For more information on their wines you can go to www.bodegafaustino.com/us.
I would rather be reading at all times. There is nothing I love more than losing myself in a great book and My Ex-Life by Stephen McCauley did not disappoint! It was such an easy, fun summer read. I was so happy when I found this in my box, I really felt like Babblebox got me! You can pick up your copy here!

Y'all life is hard, but getting dressed shouldn't be. The last thing anyone needs is to stand in front of their closets with dread on a daily basis. Our lives are filled daily with so many ups and downs, the last thing you want is a wardrobe filled with things that make you feel anything but joy. I'm no Marie Kondo (just one look in my room would let you know this), but I'm deeply moved by owning things that make me happy. I look at my closet as constantly changing work of art. Complete with functional and nonsensical items that make me extremely happy for different reasons. Buying items that are easy to wear, comfortable and versatile should bring you joy and peace. Having those go too items make it so easy to get dressed.
One of these joyous items is this black dress from The Who What Wear Collection that brought me immense joy the second I saw it in stores. I knew it was the perfect black dress to get me through the summer. Perfect silhouette, breathable fabric, neutral color, delicate detailing, pockets and it was under $40! The absolute perfect dress for me to wear to work, church, lunch, brunch, drinks, you get my drift. I can't lie I was super tempted to buy it in the white as well, but I didn't.
I've had this dress on a bit of repeat since I got it! It wears so well in the sweltering Alabama heat. So does your closet fill you with joy? Or do you dread it when it's time to get dressed? Have you filled with items that make it easy to get dressed? Or are you triggered just thinking about it? Let's talk about it!
Thank you so much for reading! You are appreciated!
J * Thank you to The Who What Wear Collection for patterning with me on this post!
Suddenly finding yourself wearing a size 10 shoe in sixth grade makes shoe shopping a gift and a curse. Having your feet grow to a size 11 as an adult makes it even harder. My feet have always been one of my arch nemesis. From an early age I wished that my feet would just stop growing. Of course they never did.
Over the years shoe shopping has gotten way better, but occasionally I have a hard time finding that perfect fit. This year I was searching for the perfect red boot that didn't have too high of a heel, was the perfect shade of red and had the right toe shape. So when Shoes of Prey approached me about designing my own shoe, I jumped all over the chance.
Having the ability to go in and customize my own shoe is priceless. I spent so much time browsing the inspirational shoe photos, looking at what other people created. Then I finally decided to stick with my guns and make a red boot. Then I created exactly what I spent months looking for. A red boot with a lower chunky heel! You also so get the chance to customize even the smallest detail of your show, the sole, lining and the zipper! I was completely blown away that I could put my name inside of my boot! As a Southern Belle I love any opportunity to have something monogramed (LOL).
If you haven't checked out Shoes of Prey yet you really should. If you have small feet, wide feet or long feet they have the right fit for you! My boots aren't just pretty, they are extremely comfortable. You can head over to shop for the latest offerings from Shoes of Prey here http://bit.ly/2FCFpeS.
I hope everyone is doing well!
Thank you for reading! And a huge thank you to Shoes of Prey for partnering with me on this post! J
Happy Valentine's Day my Loves! I'm another year into this single girls Valentine's Day and I've been looking forward to it! I love Valentine's Day! It's my absolute favorite holiday and you can miss me with all of the arguments on the commercialization of the holiday. I got that memo and I reject it. Last year I gave you a bunch of fun things that Single Girls can do to celebrate this holiday, and those are still fun things to do. This year I have decided to indulge in a week of things that bring me joy and love. Here are a few of those things:
1. Laugh and talk with my Girlfriends 2. Wearing red 3. Watching the Winter Olympics with my Parents 4. Re-reading my favorite book (The Alchemist) 5. Having my favorite meal (sushi) 6. Drinking my favorite cocktail 7. Getting a facial, a mani and a pedi 8. Buying myself something new and impractical 9. Donating money to a worthy cause 10. Going to movies 11. Celebrating Black Panther release (cause it's totally a holiday) 12. Going to the art museum 13. Taking a long nap 14. Go to Church
That's just a few of them. I hope you have a wonderful day, no week filled with joy and love. We are all deserving of joy and love! I also need to just remind you that if you're feeling lonely on this day and any day please reach out to me! I will be happy to listen to you and tell you how wonderfully amazing you are! Thank you for reading! I love you! J
Happy New Year Everyone!!! I hope you had a fabulous holiday season! As I was looking through my blog one of the things I hardly ever talk about is work wear. Which is odd, since I spend most of my time at work. So I want to introduce to you 9 to 5 To Stay Alive a series that I will post to discuss work wear and any questions you have about it! Though my office is business casual there is still occasions when I have to dress up for different events. When I first started out in my career I wore suits and stockings daily and how quickly I realized that wasn't the life for me. My ever present need to represent my feelings through fashion always rears it's head no matter what.
This year I want to include a few more post on work wear. Honestly it can be hard to navigate through and easy to lose yourself in what you think is appropriate. Injecting your personal style into your work style isn't as hard as you might think. It can be as simple as wearing your favorite color, or your favorite shape of suit, or even your accessories.
If you follow me on Pinterest then you know I love a good suit. Suiting can be so powerful, but with the wrong cut and the wrong shape it can also be dowdy. When I saw this suit at Eloquii's headquarters back in November I knew it had to be mine. The shape of the sleeves, the easy fit of the pants it was too perfect to not add to my wardrobe. All of the styling possibilities of these two pieces went running through my mind!
So how do you feel about work wear? What is your style when it comes to what you wear to work? Do you have any questions on work wear? Thank you for reading! J
This year my New Year's Eve is gonna be totally low-key. I honestly might even wear tennis shoes, since I'm still nursing this sprained foot. But if I wasn't this jumpsuit from Lane Bryant would be perfect for a night out on the town. First of all it's comfortable, the fit is amazing and it has pockets. All important requirements for a going out outfit. I looked at this jumpsuit online and kept going back and forth, but when fell in love when I tried it on in the store! Thank you to all of my IG followers who told me to buy it! LOL! I love y'all! The velvet detailing take this jumpsuit up a notch and made it different from my other jumpsuits. FYI I'm wearing a size 22, just in case you're buying it online. I styled the jumpsuit by adding my velvet mules, blazer and these beautiful earrings I picked up at Loft.
Honestly I can not believe that we are at the end of another year. Everything has rushed by so fast. I sincerely want to say thank you to everyone who has continued to read my blog year after year! This year has been so amazing for me blog wise that I am totally inspired to push myself harder and harder to develop this little corner of the Internet. I am thankful for everyone who has left me a comment, liked my pictures, commented and interacted with my in any way! I hope you have an amazing 2018! If there is anything you want to see here please don't hesitate to email me and let me know! I love interacting with y'all! Thank you for reading! Love you all! Jeniese
I 've been addicted to sequins for as long as I could remember. They are perfect for absolutely any occasion. Every holiday season I have to stop myself from taking the sequin addiction too far. Conversations in my mind sound like self... do you really need another sequin jacket?! Of course I do! Now I just like to think of this section of my closet as my sequin collection. That makes me a collector right? See how I justify that.
Back in August I was the TCF Style Expo and I picked up this Courtney Noelle duster! I love buying pieces from independent designers. They are always on the cutting edge of styles, fabrics and designs. If you haven't heard of Courtney Noelle please head over and check out her designs, this isn't a sponsored post, I just love her stuff!
Since this duster was the show piece I paired with simple black tank, jeans and pumps. I was also excited to try my new favorite lippie from Nars called Paint It Black. Sooo I sprained my ankle and my holiday looks are all changing cause no heals for me any time soon (smh).
Anyone else addicted to sequins? fur? Leather? What can't you get enough of? Thank you for reading! J
