To celebrate Chinese New Year 2019, PIK Avenue is holding an event called “Taste Of Asia” which is happening from 25 January until 24 February 2019. The whole event includes many shows, expo and promotions, but the culinary theme is too interesting to be missed. There are Curated Food Expo, Tirta Lie Festival (30 Jan – 3 Feb), Kitchen Stage by Celebrity Chefs, and Crazy Angpao Rewards. We are so glad we could visit many times during the month and if you haven’t, you should go to join the hype!

We had great time joining the opening ceremony and dinner at NSNTR Restaurant at Mercure PIK on 25 Jan. The highlight of the dinner were the Soya BBQ Beef Short Ribs and Vegetable Pumpkin Yuzu Sauce, and the Kedondong Sorbet. We think we should come back again soon for more proper dining moment, LOL.

During the Opening Ceremony, we got to see this Dragon Dance, which is unique and impressive, because it was the first time I saw this kind of dragon dance. I am sure it took lots of time to practice this kind of act and with the Harp Performance afterwards, I was very much entertained the whole night.

Curated Food Expo

In the main atrium of PIK Avenue, you can find this food expo, where you can find variety of imported and local products like fresh meat, seafood, cheese, wine, organic food, ice cream, even kitchen equipment. If you do transaction using DANA (Dompet Digital Indonesia), you can get 40% cashback that will go right into your account.

Kitchen Stage by Celebrity Chef

You can also join and take cooking tips from celebrity chefs who will share their recipes in the main atrium.

Crazy Angpao Rewards

For you all members of SedayuOne, enjoy this program by shopping for min. of IDR 1,5 million (Fri-Sun) or IDR 1 million (Mon-Thu), and you can grab a chance to win gifts, one of them is a flight ticket to London. Interested?

Was lucky to get a glimpse of this Guzheng Orchestra by Miladomus Music School!

And the biggest reason why we love this event: TIRTA LIE FESTIVAL! Couldn’t count how many bowls of noodles and rice that we ate during our visits, but we were so glad we came. Basically the event showcased the proclaimed BEST 28 noodles and rice in Jabodetabek, which I believed was curated by Tirta Lie himself. The best thing of all, since the Taste of Asia event is held in North Jakarta, many PORK dishes!!! However, this festival was only 5 days long, from 30 Jan until 3 Feb only. This festival is simply a heaven for noodle and pork lovers, as there are many options and almost everything we tried was delicious.

The clock is ticking, let’s go to Taste of Asia in PIK Avenue because the event will end soon on 24 February! Ciao and see you!

If you follow our Instagram, you might have probably noticed that we went to Bali earlier this month to join the opening event of RivaReno Gelato Bali! We were very excited to be there as both of us are huge fans of (authentic Italian) gelato and although we had never tried RivaReno’s gelato before, we have to say that we had high expectation trying the Italy’s Best Gelato!

RivaReno Gelato now in Bali – Deadly combination of Cremino Dark & Pistacchio Gelato!

RivaReno Gelato originates from Bologna, the gastronomic capital of Italy – and the world, or so to speak. The name RivaReno wants to pay homade to Bologna (since Bologna is located on the shores of the river Reno), and the brand was created by 4 friends who are: a famous gelato maker, a former BBC journalist, a former Italian car executive, and a lawyer. These 4 founders had for a long time wished to produce gelato with great quality and such goal was finally pursued with the first RivaReno store opening in via Col di Lana, Milan in 2005. Nowadays, they have many stores across Italy, Australia, Malta, Spain, and now – BALI!

RivaReno stores always have gelato production lab, where all their gelato is made fresh daily, with recipes from the best culinary traditions of Emilia, clearly distinguishes itself for creating a unique product in texture and taste. As a recognition to their high quality gelato, RivaReno have received many awards such as; “Miglior Gelateria d’Italia” (Best Gelato in Italy), sponsored by the association Golosaria, “Maestri del Gusto” (Master of Taste) by Slow Food (one of the leading international organizations for the promotion of high quality healthy food and biodiversity), many Certificates of Excellence by TripAdvisor, and many more.

RivaReno Gelato Bali is located in Petitenget area, right next to the sea (Petitenget Beach), makes it an ideal stop to satisfy your cravings for yummy gelato. If you prefer, the store is actually near all the hot spots in the neighborhood, near Motel Mexicola, Sea Circus or Kim Soo. The store is big and spacious, fully air-conditioned, cozy tables and chairs with electrical outlets that surely can guarantee your comfort! Walk straight to the counter and treat yourselves some gelato!

RivaReno makes their gelato freshly everyday in their lab inside their stores. Without preservatives, antioxidants, hydrogenated fats, artificial colourings, monoglycerides, diglycerides, and other nasty chemicals, and using only Alpine milk and cream, the gelato have the smooth, mousse-like, velvety texture that will definitely blow your mind away! The greatest thing with their outlet in Bali is because they will also use local produce like tropical fruits and everything the island has to offer.

You have probably noticed from the photos that RivaReno doesn’t showcase their gelato like many other shops. Actually the best way to preserve the gelato is to put them in the carapine gelato containers, just like what they do. The carapine gelato container keeps the perfect humidity level, keeping the right gelato consistency, not to mention that the covered containers make sure that the hygiene standards are high.

Now, THE BEST PART! One of the perks being a foodie like us is that we got the golden opportunity to join the “Master Class” directly with Mr. Nicola Greco, one of the founders of RivaReno. He taught us the principles of making fresh gelato the RivaReno’s way, yes, in their very own laboratorio! The lab is so clean, hygienic and modern. With equipment like Cattabriga EFFE 6B artisan gelato machine, clearly RivaReno puts quality over everything else! From precisely-set scale that connects the recipes worldwide, to the finest ingredients used in the making, until we got super fresh gelato and sorbets, I witnessed all the process and feel so thankful that I got to join this exclusive once-in-a-lifetime experience! If you are curious, check these photos below as we were making Raspberry Sorbet that day!

I cringed a little when I saw the result, SO PRETTY!!! Their sorbets contain of 55% to 90% real fruit, mixed with water, base frutta and later processed in the machine creating a wonderful texture of silky, not icy sorbet, if you know what I mean. Most all the time, I always find sorbets “icy”, just like crushed frozen fruit juice. Here in RivaReno, I think it was the first time I actually had a sorbet with this smooth and silky texture it was just amazing.

Can you see the velvety texture and imagine how thrilled I was?

RivaReno’s signature menu is definitely their gelato and sorbets, which you can enjoy in cups or cones with 4 serving size options: S (IDR 50,000), M (IDR 65,000), L (IDR 80,000), and XL (IDR 95,000). You can also add topping of Chocolate Hazelnut sauce or Amarena cherries sauce for additional IDR 15,000. Beside these, RivaReno also have many interesting menu such as Gelato/Fruit Stick, Gelato Sandwich, Gelato Cake, Semifreddo Cake, Milkshakes, even coffee! It seems like 3 visits will not be enough for us to explore everything they offer in the store!

In case you are wondering what our favorite flavors are, mine would be their Cremino Dark (dark chocolate and hazelnut gelato with layers of intense pistacchio), Crema (Italian egg-based custard gelato), Ananas (using pineapple from Bali), and of course, their Cioccolato (using blend of the best African chocolates), and ultimately, their Pistacchio (using intense pistacchio from Bronte, Sicily). It’s hard for me to choose my favorite flavors because they are all very unique and distinctive, and everything is so delicious!

I don’t know why I could miss such a great brand and why in the world I had never tried RivaReno gelato before this. Both I and Mr. K have tried many gelato brands in Italy, and although there are some hits and misses, we had 1 particular brand that we really like upon trying it for the first time in Milan (that brand also has many outlets spread across Italy and many other countries). However, we find that RivaReno Bali’s gelato easily won our hearts because it’s REAL! It’s amazing just to think that there is *finally* an authentic gelato shop here in this country, with uncompromising quality and flavor like we experienced in the original country!

Last but not least, Congratulations RivaReno Bali for the opening and BEST OF LUCK!! Can’t wait to be back!

It’s been a long time since we visited PIK for cafe hunting or just to find some good food. This time, we came back for this cute cafe named My Bun Bun, self-proclaimed as the first Rabbit Cafe in Indonesia.

Located in Ruko The Plaza PIK, just next to Dapur Cokelat, it’s easy to spot this place from the street, thanks to the rabbit ears signage. When you enter though, prepare yourselves for the glorious small animals in cages: from rabbits to hamsters, guinea pigs to hedgehogs, they have ’em all! The first floor is used for some kind of pet shop, second floor for another pet shop and grooming area, and the cafe itself is actually on the third floor. Although the whole area is basically full of (caged) animals, the place is well-maintained and looks very clean with no annoying smell. The stairs are quite wide as well and very convenient even for elderly/children to climb, good job!

Entering the cafe, the first impression is… CUTE! The cafe is small but looks very cozy and homey, with simple minimalist white-dominated decor, it doesn’t take long to make us feel at home. The rabbits attributes laying around are so cute I simply adore them.

Here you can enjoy playing freely with the animals by spending on F&B for minimum of IDR 50,000/person (weekdays) and IDR 75,000/person (weekends), which is not a difficult thing to do because one drink can already cost you that amount. I think not all animals will be released from the cages in the same time, during our visit, there were only 3 of them out of cage for us to play with. My favorite is a white rabbit named Bakpao, so fluffy, plump and cute! The guinea pig is also cute, I prefer plump and not-so-active ones because I can pat them relaxingly.

While you play with these cute animals, you can also enjoy the food they offer. Some of them take longer time to prepare, but we don’t really mind because we can spend our time playing or taking photos. There are many instagenic spots in the small cafe, but you just can’t miss the “fireplace” area in the far end side of the cafe. Also, the rabbit chairs are uber cute!

We only ordered snacks and drinks because we just had lunch at a restaurant nearby, so these are what we ordered: Bun Pao (IDR 45,000), French Fries (IDR 35,000), Caramel Macchiato (IDR 45,000), Roasted Almond Macchiato (IDR 45,000), Choco Tiramisu (IDR 40,000). The Bun Pao is actually kind of their signature dish, you’ll get 2 cute rabbits with chocolate filling in the head, and cheese filling in the body. The snack and drinks we tried that day are just okay, but again, they are selling the experience playing with the animals, not really focusing on the F&B, I guess.

If you happen to like animals and enjoy playing with them, we think you should try visiting this place. In the end, we spent like 4+ hours here during a Saturday noon and we had a great time! Definitely will come back in the near future.

My favorite rabbit, Bakpao!

Hello, Seoul Yummy! Seoul Yummy is a Korean restaurant which opens just recently in Avenue of The Stars area in Lippo Mall Kemang, and has already taken our attention since the first time we heard about it. Founded in 2008 in Singapore, the brand is a brainchild of a couple, Frank and Laura, who managed to capture Korean food lovers’ hearts in Singapore and achieved many awards up to date. Nowadays, Seoul Yummy has grown further and now there are 7 outlets in Singapore alone, and the latest one in Jakarta!

With concept of modern Korean style mixed with urban K-POP nuance, the place spreads young and colorful ambience, especially with the choice of bright and cheerful colors like white, red, and yellow. Every table is equipped with gas stoves and everything looks so neat and tidy. We felt comfortable almost immediately and yeah, we couldn’t wait to try the food!

Seoul Yummy offers line of Korean comfort food with signature dishes like Army Stew (Budae Jjigae if you prefer), Cheese Pot, Rice & Noodles, and variants of appetizers or light bites to complete it all. Although many people are worried eating in Korean restaurants because they usually provide pork dishes, in Seoul Yummy, you can enjoy everything with no worry because all menu use no pork and no lard.

Daebak Army Stew (Beef) IDR 168,000 Also available with Chicken for IDR 148,000.

As an Army Stew lover, it’s always exciting to see how a restaurant prepares and presents their versions of Army Stew. In Seoul Yummy, they take this to another level, the presentation is perfect just like what we see in the menu. With generous ingredients like tteokbokki (rice cake), spam sausage, enoki, beancurd, baked beans, assorted vegetables and kimchi; we can also enjoy the stew with various topping of our choice, from beef, chicken, seafood, Korean fish cakes, etc. Make sure to read the menu carefully or ask the staff if you are not sure, better safe than sorry!

Daebak Army Stew (Beef) IDR 168,000

Daebak Army Stew (Beef) IDR 168,000

Daebak Army Stew (Beef) IDR 168,000

We couldn’t be happier with our beef stew. The Korean ramyun is also included in the price, which is a big plus point for me as in other restaurants, we usually have to order ramyun as additional topping. Ingredients are fresh and good, not to mention that the soup is uber tasty! If you come to Seoul Yummy, it’s a no brainer that ordering their Army Stew is A MUST!

Daebak Army Stew (Beef) IDR 168,000

Daebak Army Stew (Beef) IDR 168,000

Chingu Cheese Pot IDR 188,000

Beside Army Stew, Seoul Yummy also offers variants of Cheese Pots with different ingredients. We had this Chingu Cheese Pot which has chicken wings as the main star, brushed with signature soy garlic and sweet & spicy sauce. Served with mozzarella and cheddar cheese, fries, egg, and 2 sides of your choice; this pot seems like the best idea to spend your lazy afternoon with family/friends.

Chingu Cheese Pot IDR 188,000

After the cheese is boiled and melted, we can start rolling the cheese over the chicken, and for this part, it’s up to you whether you want to do it yourself or ask a staff to do it for you. Although it looks easy but when you do the actual thing, it is not that simple and for us, we always leave it to the staff so we can have maximum enjoyment of our cheesy chicken. Honestly, I don’t really understand the usage of cheese in modern Korean dishes, but this, I can tolerate. I actually love them cheesy chicken here in Seoul Yummy, most probably because the chicken itself already have bold flavors so I didn’t feel like I was eating cheese alone. I found it strange that I can say I was addicted to it.

Chingu Cheese Pot IDR 188,000

Potato Pancake & Kimchi Pancake @IDR 38,000

Pan-fried pancake with shredded carrot and spring onion, available in 2 variants: with grated potato and with homemade kimchi. We like the kimchi one better, although we secretly wished that the pancake was thicker!

Potato Pancake & Kimchi Pancake @IDR 38,000

Poong Japchae Spicy Chicken (IDR 78,000) / Bulgogi Beef (IDR 88,000) / Spicy Squid (IDR 98,000)

This one is with Spicy Squid topping, and we loved it! The Japchae was dark colored (the type we like) and very rich in flavor, not to mention the extra sesame oil kick! However, for the price, we expected a larger portion for sure. XD

Poong Japchae Spicy Squid (IDR 98,000)

Poong Japchae Spicy Squid (IDR 98,000)

Korean Rice Balls Spicy Chicken (IDR 38,000) / Bulgogi Beef (IDR 48,000)

As much as I love Korean rice balls, sometimes I just want to eat without having to do everything by myself. And now, my wish is granted in Seoul Yummy, LOL! The rice balls are ready to eat, woohoo! They are shaped in small balls that can be conveniently eaten in one mouthful portion. But don’t underestimate the size because eating 3 of this is quite fulfilling already!

Korean Rice Balls

For the drinks, we tried their signature Ice Lemon Tea with Aiyu Jelly (IDR 23,000) which is actually a regular Ice Lemon Tea only complimented with Aiyu Jelly topping. I had my first Aiyu Jelly in Taiwan and loved the citrus taste but this version I couldn’t really taste it because I guess the lemon tea overpowered the flavor of jelly itself. Nonetheless, it was still refreshing to beat Jakarta’s humid weather.

Another drink to try was Ice Yuzu Tea (IDR 35,000), which I ordered for the sake of the yuzu. I like this one much better especially because they also included the yuzu skin and we had the slight bitterness from it to balance the sweetness.

Mr Bibimbab IDR 65,000

Dining in Seoul Yummy won’t be complete without trying their Bing Soo or Korean shaved ice! We had their Green Tea Bing Soo (which is awesome!) but our hearts were taken by Mr. Bibimbab! Seriously, Seoul Yummy’s menus are very creative and their bing soo’s names are the cutest! Mr. Bibimbab is shaved ice topped with super colorful toppings like strawberry, kiwi, Korean red bean, cornflakes, mango, blueberry, peach, almond flakes, crushed nuts and whipped cream. It’s like a major heaven for tropical fruits lovers, don’t you think so? XD

Mr Bibimbab IDR 65,000

Mr Bibimbab IDR 65,000

Seoul Yummy offers authentic Korean dishes with modern twist and you can find many delicious and interesting dishes here. Our recommendation is definitely to try their signature Army Stew, and if you come in larger group, you can order other menu such as Cheese Pots and other side dishes as well. Although the prices look high but we consider it’s not pricey because the portions are large and can be enjoyed for 2-4 person. We really enjoyed our first dining experience in Seoul Yummy Jakarta and we hope they remain consistent in our next visits! Congratulations Seoul Yummy for the opening of Jakarta outlet and best of luck!

Celebrating the opening of the new Hario Cafe Pluit, we had the opportunity to join the Grand Opening event on 12 May 2018 and we have to say we really had so much fun! Before I start with the event, let’s talk about the brand first. I am sure coffee lovers probably are familiar about this brand, but in case you didn’t know, Hario is a leader of manual brew equipment from Japan that was founded in 1921, and is known for its heatproof glass that is able to withstand high heat and acid. The name HARIO itself is derived from the King of Glass 玻璃王 (HARIO), so it explains a lot about what they do.

Hario Cafe Pluit is the second outlet after the first one in Tokyo, Japan. Located on Pluit Permai Raya just behind Pluit Village Mall, the store occupies quite a spacious building with parking space, a perfect spot for spending your time. If you have ever visited Hario Coffee Factory in AEON Mall BSD, both outlets are actually under the same management of Toffin Indonesia, who is also the official distributor of Hario products in Indonesia.

Stepping inside, the ambience of sleek and clean welcomed us and we instantly fell in love to the warm colors and simple decor. There is long counter in the middle of the room, where you can witness the process of coffee making, enjoy the colorful view of the cakes of the day, or just admire the equipment, LOL. The cafe was literally full of people that day so the mood was very bright and festive, I guess we all were so excited for the opening event!

Opening Speech by Mr. Yasuhiro Shibata, CEO Chairman of Hario Co., Ltd.

The event was special because we got the chance to meet the special guest: Champion of World Brewers Cup 2016: Tetsu Kasuya himself! *woot* Apparently, Tetsu Kasuya won it with coffee manually brewed with ceramic Hario V60, and invented the 4-6 method, which somehow goes like this:

The 4-6 method begins by dividing the total water into 40% and 60%.

You pour the first 40% in two pours, and then decide how many pours you want to make for the last 60%. The first 2 pours decide the balance of the acidity and sweetness. The remaining number of pours will decide the strength of the coffee.

Tetsu Kasuya is about to showcase his skills.

The best thing about Hario Cafe is, not only coffee lovers are invited to enjoy here, but since their concept is Drink, Eat, Shop; you can tell that they also offer food menu as well. For the drinks, of course you can find freshly roasted coffee (currently there are Bali, Aceh Gayo, and Ethiopia) served your way, and they provide many brewing method from V60 (IDR 36,000), Syphon (IDR 36,000), French Press (IDR 36,000), Cold Drip (IDR 43,000), and Cold Brew (IDR 43,000). Beside coffee, you can also enjoy variety of tea, smoothies, even mocktail here.

We were so enthusiastic to see all the Hario products in this cafe, LOL! One of them will be this Hario V60 Auto Pour Over Smart machine, that can do your manual brew job easier and more efficient. The machine costs almost IDR 13 million but it is so cool and advanced. It can connect to our gadget through Bluetooth and we can set how we want to do the coffee, and we can save and share recipes as well. Beside this machine, you can also shop for any product there and, ladies, bring your purse and you can purchase some fine jewelries while you are here.

After “Drink” and “Shop”, let’s move on to “Eat”, shall we? Hario Cafe is pretty serious with what they serve, as the kitchen is helmed by Chef Jemmy Nugroho, who has experiences in St. Regis Bali Resort and Villa D’amelia in Italy. During our visit, the food menu is simple and not too many, divided into Breakfast & Brunch (7.30AM – 11.30AM), and Lunch & Dinner (from 11.30AM onwards).

Prices of F&B range from IDR 18,000 to 185,000.

Cappuccino IDR 37,000

You have never been in Hario Cafe if you haven’t tried their coffee, or so I thought. XD After trying the “manually” brewed coffee using the machine above, we tried their Cappuccino as well. Perfect medium roast as the coffee was in good balance, distinctive aroma, and well-textured milk! Not to mention that the latte arts are perfectly done.

Beef Yakiniku Bao IDR 65,000

Marinated beef, spring onion, green lettuce wrapped in soft, velvety bao buns? Irresistible! Not only that it is so pretty and colorful, the bao is definitely must try. I love the super tasty beef slices that go very well with the veggies.

Marinated Pulled Pork Burger  IDR 85,000

Forget your diet and indulge in a super delicious treat today: the burger stuffed with marinated pulled pork, topped with apple coleslaw, sunny side, katsuobushi, and served with salted fried chips. The pulled pork had me at the first bite, but I wish they put more of it! XD

Garlic Chicken Bowl IDR 74,000

The glazed garlic chicken served with pico de gallo on top of garlic butter rice seems like a good idea for satisfying meal, but we weren’t really impressed with this one. The presentation couldn’t be better but we felt that there is too much going on inside this bowl and it was confusing. Frankly speaking, all elements were tasty and strong enough to stand alone, so having all of them in one bowl didn’t set a harmony to my tongue and kill the actual tastes instead.

Hario Fried Rice IDR 65,000

As one of their recommended menu, we had high expectation on this one. The fried rice was cooked with homemade chili sauce and served with chicken pop, pickled vegetables, crackers, and tamago. Although the seasonings were great, the rice was soggy and since we had this during the event, it was reasonable as the kitchen was very busy preparing for food/beverages for all the guests. We were told that they used freshly-cooked rice, that’s why the rice was kinda soggy and ruined the whole fried rice eating experience. Anyway, we are planning to go back and try the more well-prepared one, without any event for sure.

Maple French Toast IDR 68,000

The beautiful Maple French Toast is also one of the Chef’s signature dishes, served with caramelized banana, crushed almond, butterscotch, strawberry, and soft ice cream. I love how the toasts were drenched in such a balanced sweetness, without making me sick at all. The fruits and flowers really gave a big feast to my eyes, and I for sure can have one plate full of this only for myself! If you wanna try this menu, come for Breakfast/Brunch because it is only available from 7.30AM to 11.30AM everyday.

Yuzu Cremeux IDR 48,000

Another prettiness is coming! Sharing to you Mr. K’s favorite: the vanilla panna cotta served with chocolate micro sponge and crumble! Beautiful plating, great ingredients, good texture and taste. Bravo!

Soft Serve IDR 18,000

Containing of 20% Comfort, 25% Warm Heart, 25% Happiness, and 30% Smile, one should not leave Hario Cafe before having their Soft Serve, yeah? We had the Salted Caramel flavor that day and we loved it! The softness, the creamy and milky flavor, everything was so good -except the shape, LOL. The flavors will be changed every now and then, so every time you visit, make sure to ask what flavor is in today!

Something Special & Something Flowery @IDR 43,000

Beside coffee and tea, we also tried 2 of their mocktail: Something Special, which consists of white sugar, mint, and pomegranate; and Something Flowery, which consists of rose and elder flower. Both drinks are very refreshing with sour and sweet tone.

Some people do drink coffee and enjoy it while smoking. And for you who wonder, Hario Cafe has an outdoor seating area that is designed just like small Zen garden that can be a paradise for smokers. Beware that this area can be real hot during daytime, but this place is also very instagenic.

Our first visit to Hario Cafe Pluit left huge impression on us as we truly love the place, the ambience, the coffee, and the energy. There is so many positive vibes pouring into the place, most probably because we met many people who are really enthusiastic about coffee and put their heart and passion to it. We believe that Hario Cafe will do just good here in Jakarta, and we secretly hope that one day they will open another outlet in South. Hoping doesn’t hurt and when it becomes true, we know where to spend our free time at for sure!

Last but not least, congratulations Hario Cafe Pluit for the opening and wish you the best of luck!
