Teacher Appreciation Week is fast approaching! This year it is May 6-10, 2019. We all know how wonderful and amazing those folks that teach, inspire and love our children all day long are. So we like to devote an entire week to show them how much we appreciate them. Now, the dreaded question, what do I get them?

Teachers Take Note Snap Pouches Gift Set

I designed this fun and unique set just for teachers, but could also be given to writers, librarians, or anyone who enjoys writing. The Snap Pouch is a fun way to create a small carrying case. The top of each pouch simple “snaps” shut! The set includes a snap pouch that looks like a notebook paper, another snap pouch that looks like a pencil and then it is topped off with a cute apple cozy.

I love to include new techniques and stitches in my patterns and of course I created a couple easy to follow YouTube tutorials to go along with the pattern. This set will even introduce you to the fun technique of Tunisian crochet (yes there is a video to show you just how to do it), no special hook is needed though for this pattern.

Where to get the pattern

Grab your copy of the Teacher Take Note Snap Pouch Gift Set on the following website:

Supplies Needed

I used scrap yarn for most of the Teachers Take Note Set. Any worsted weight yarn will work, I did use Red Heart Super Saver from my stash. All the specific colors are listed within the pattern. Other supplies needed are as follows:

  • Crochet Hook H (5.00) mm & Crochet Hook G (4.00 mm)
  • An old tape measure that is at least 3/4″ wide
  • Tin Snips (or old scissors that you don’t mind ruining)
  • Tape (electrical, duct or packaging)
  • Yarn Needle and Regular Yarn Scissors
Thank a Teacher Today!

Sweet Serendipity… what do you do when a box of this amazingly soft and scrumptious yarn (Sprightly Spectrum) arrives on your doorstep?

First off a Happy Dance!!! LOL-I am not kidding. Then, just sit and admire the colors and dream of crocheting with it. I typically am not a fan of self striping yarns, but the Sprightly Spectrum yarns colors fade into one another in a very eye-appealing way. The transition is soft and lovely. See their entire colorway of the Sprightly Spectrum yarn, HERE.

Because the yarn is self striping I knew I needed to finds some fun stitches to make the blanket fun to work up. I wanted it to be a little airy, have a little texture and a new stitch that will allow me to hopefully teach you all something new. Bam, the Sweet Serendipity Blanket was created <3

When I look at the striping blanket, it brings a peaceful feeling with the warm colors that remind me of spring blossoms. The Sweet Serendipity Blanket is perfect for those cool spring/summer nights.

Come join me next week for a Free Snap Pouch Crochet Along! This is a fun and small project that won’t take long at all. Plus, you can use up that scrap yarn you have laying around the house. There will be 3 sizes of snap pouches to choose from. Each one has a unique stitch that you will get to see demonstrated in a LIVE video through the Crochet and Conversations facebook group.

The largest pouch has a fun geometrical shape in the stitches. It is a great size to use as a crochet hook storage, pencil storage or throw some misc items in it to help organize your larger handbag. The middle size is a square and would be great to hold small trinkets (maybe a set of jacks, a deck of cards, small ipod with headphones). The smallest of the snap pouches is ideal for chapstick! Add poms, tassels, buttons, appliques, key rings… you name it, the sky is the limit!

The CAL will be hosted in the Crochet & Conversations group on facebook, so come and join us by clicking HERE.

So excited to release the entire Forest Friends Set! This adorable set includes the blanket, pillow and wall hanging. Each piece features the darling animals faces that are resting peacefully. The faces are designed to accent the main detail in the upper face of the animals especially the eyes and ears while the lower outline fades into the stitches of the blanket.

The entire set can be purchased at a discounted price on Ravelry: HERE or on Etsy: HERE

Customize the blanket with all of the same animals or pick one and do them all the same. The pattern includes the instructions for the following animals: Fox (or change to grey colors for a Wolf), Owl, Skunk, Raccoon and Deer.

Forest Friends Blanket

The Forest Friends blanket is larger than a traditional baby blanket. This will allow for the baby to grow into it and use the blanket into childhood or even when they are older. It is even a nice size for me (mom) to wrap up in. The completed size of the blanket is roughly 38” wide X 54” long. Grab your copy of only the Forest Friends Blanket on Ravelry: HERE or Etsy: HERE.

Forest Friends Pillow

The Forest Friends Pillow is a very cute, fun and quick project that you can add to any home decor. The pillow makes a cute accent piece for nurseries, children’s bedroom, classrooms, reading nooks or even cabins. The pillow is made to fit a traditional accent pillow size of 14X14 inches square. You can grab the pattern for just the pillow on Ravelry: HERE or on Etsy: HERE.

Forest Friends Wall Hanging

The Forest Friends Wall Hanging is whimsical project that accents the pillow and blanket perfectly. The wall hanging can be made off a wooden rod/dowel, a decorative hanger or find a cute branch out in nature for a earthy look. The finished size of the Forest Friends Wall Hanging is about 14-15” wide by 18” long counting the fringe but not the top hanger string. Grab the Forest Friends Wall Hanging pattern on Ravelry: HERE or on Etsy: HERE.

Add Appliques to Customize

All the coordinating pieces of the Forest Friends Set include instructions for some fun appliques including a small flower, larger flower, a leaf and a fun pine tree. The appliques can be mixed up as much as you like or can be as simple as you like.

You will love making the entire Forest Friends Set. The main stitch in the pattern creates a thin fabric so the blanket is not going to be heavy. And an even bigger bonus is that it works up pretty quick. Enjoy making the pieces and please share your progress or finished project with me in my Crochet and Conversations group: HERE.

The Whispering Willows Poncho is a beautiful summer wrap. Made in the right colors this poncho can dress up any evening attire with it’s elegant look. It can be a cute swim top cover with is free flowing design. And, it can add a fun whimsical look to a simple jeans and t-shirt day!

The stitch combination in the Whispering Willows Poncho creates a lovely texture and natural lay of the accessory allowing a slight breeze to go through, but there is still enough close stitches to keep you warm.

The pattern comes in 2 sizes because ponchos have a forgiving fit and will fit a range of sizes. The pattern has a small/medium size as well as a large/XLarge size. You can easily add additional rows to make the poncho longer to cover more of the arm and/or to add length to the design.

Made in a lighter worsted weight yarn and a crochet hook I (5.5 mm), the Whispering Willows Poncho works up quicker than you might think.

The Chasing Arrows Blankets design adds a modern twist on an old traditional craft. I love the striking design of the repeating arrows grabs your attention. This was a design that was so difficult to photograph. The blanket is so stunning in person but the design just kind of fades in the photos, so I hope you can all envision how lovely this really is.

I decided on the colors for my Chasing Arrows sample blanket with all your help in my Crochet and Conversations group (if you are not a member, come join-it’s lots of fun, you can join by clicking HERE). Asking for color inspiration I settled on a succulent photo and then made my selection below. Just think of the colors you would make the Chasing Arrows Blanket in, the colors can really affect what vibe your finished blanket will give off.

Some things I love about this design

The Chasing Arrows Blanket has an easy color changing that really helps the details pop because of the stripes that the repeating arrows follow. The blanket has no border!!! That is right, the simple cream outline is created as you crochet the blanket from the bottom up. When you are done all you need to do is add Extra Large Tassels to the large throw (which will be about 46” X 58”), and yes, I included a tassel tutorial for any of you that are unfamiliar with making them. But, watch out, they are addicting and you will want to add tassels to everything!

There is nothing sweeter than sleeping babies and I adore the popular trend that photographers are capturing this precious moment. The only thing that can make these babies cuter is a delicate romper, the beautiful texture of a lacey mohair just adds to the snugglyness of this moment.

The popular rompers are very difficult to find in a crochet pattern. I designed a Classic Romper at the beginning of the year and it was such a success I decided to design a one in a lacy look and now I get to share the Precious Newborn Romper pattern with all of you.

The romper is designed as a photo prop for newborns up to about 2 weeks old and will fits a newborn between 6-12 pounds (newborns in the sample photos are 6 & 8 pounds).

The pattern was made using Knit Picks Aloft yarn but any lacey mohair yarn will work up if you check and match the gauge as you work the romper up (gauge checks are throughout the pattern). The Precious Newborn Romper is made with less than 1 skein of yarn.

The Classic Newborn Romper is also made for newborns, details about the pattern can be found HERE.

It is here!!! Happy Dancing is going on over here and hopefully in your living room too.

One of my favorite things to host are Crochet Alongs. I love the interaction with other crochet minded people and see everyone work side by side (via the internet) and complete a fun project. The last 2 years I have designed baby blankets there were so much fun so I had to do another fun animal themed blanket. Having already done farm animals and teddy bears I had to jump on board the woodland animal theme.

Forest Friends Blanket

There are so many fun things about the Forest Friends Blanket CAL. The forest friends are a popular theme, but not just for babies, so I decide to make this blanket a little bit larger so the toddlers can grow into it. The blanket will be 38″ wide by 54″ long. Now when I hear that a blanket is “bigger” I get a little worried about the time it will take to make. But, don’t fret! The stitches used are a lovely stitch combo that works up really fast.

The animal faces are subtle and are mostly distinguished by the face details, the outline is very faint which creates a whimsical look. All the faces are somewhat similar with slight differences that give them each a little different look.

You can design the blanket however you like. Choose one animal to create in all 5 sections designed for an animal face, or select a couple different animals, or crochet all 5. Once the animals are done you can decide if you want to add trees, big flowers, little flowers and/or leaves. You can pick the placement of all of these and add as many as you like.

This is only to offer you an extra incentive to finish the project and not just add it to your pile of UFO (unfinished object) pile. If you don’t complete it in time, please don’t look at this as a punishment for not finishing on time. But, for those of you that do finish AND add your finished blanket as a project on Ravelry by Sunday March 31, 2019, I will give you one free Forest Friends Accessory pattern for free. I have designed a fun wall hanging and pillow to coordinate with the pattern.
