Valid

When actress/activist/author Rowan Blanchard first chopped her hair into a shaggy pixie back in January, the entertainment world did a collective gasp at how different she looked. Well, not just different but cool as hell. Now, the 17-year-old has gone back in the other direction rocking ultra-long hair—at least temporarily. She shared photos to Instagram today of her length with piecey bangs. We almost didn’t recognize her. Not that she’s gone back to her Disney star vibe. This style is sultry and edgy at the same time.

Blanchard’s hair didn’t grow overnight, of course. The look is courtesy of Laurie Heaps, a Los Angeles-based celebrity hairstylist who is responsible for some of Blanchard’s prettiest hairstyles. She even worked with Blanchard as the head hairstylist on Girl Meets World. Based on a little Instagram digging, it seems like Heaps used Mayvenn Inc.’s Notorious Naomi lace front wig with bangs, which she cut to get the look she wanted.

We’re not exactly sure what the new look is for, but the way Heaps added pearl hair clips to the side’s of Blanchard’s hair, makes us think it’s something personal and fashion-related. Blanchard has become a serious style star, after all.

If you want to get her look on your own hair, Amazon is full of pearl hair clips. Like, full of them. There are four-piece sets with different sizes ($5.99 at Amazon), nine-piece sets with additional rhinestone bobby pins ($9.99 at Amazon) and even a ten-piece set with colorful additions ($9.99 at Amazon).

Even if you have normal or dry skin, the summer months can leave your face seriously shiny. But who wants to wear full-coverage matte foundation on super-hot days? Ugh, not me. That’s why I’m excited to try the new Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Mattifying Primer. It’s the same primer you know and love from Rihanna’s beauty brand but with a shine-stopping, pore-defusing finish. And if you’re someone with oily skin, you’ll probably end up loving it year-round.

The Pro Filt’r Primer becomes matte with the addition of blue agave extract and blurring powders, which the brand says have a filter-like effect. Fenty also promises that even though it’s oil-free, your skin won’t feel tight and dry like some matte products tend to do. Wear it alone to tone down any shine on a no-makeup makeup day (my favorite way to wear primer), or prep skin for foundation. Of course, it helps extend any foundation wear, not just Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation ($35 at Sephora).

Fenty Beauty has been putting out so many new products lately, we can barely keep up. Fans are loving the recent drop of Pro Kiss’r Luscious Lip Balm ($18 at Sephora) for the way it smooths and softens lips, while prepping it for matte lipstick.

What will Rihanna think up next? Pro Filt’r Mattifying Primer retails for $32 and is available now on Sephora’s website and will hit stores August 15.

Winchester University’s campus just opened its doors again, and the Dear White People Season 3 trailer proves we are in for one insane ride. The Netflix series, which focuses on the Black students at a predominantly white university, has been critically acclaimed and controversial since it first debuted in 2017. Now, as the series steps into its third season–creator Justin Simien and the cast refuse to get bogged down by tired tropes and the same ole’ song and dance.

They’re leveling up.

This season–the characters are going through some real changes. Sam (Logan Brown) has left her radio show, Dear White People, in the hands of her bestie Joelle (Ashley Blaine Featherson) and Joelle’s new bae, Reggie (Marque Richardson). Troy (Brandon P. Hell) has left his frat-boy persona in the dust for something a bit more…dramatic. Coco (Antoinette Robertson) is having a full blow hot girl school year, and Lionel (DeRon Horton) is trying to figure out his tribe within the gay community.

Of course, we’re finally getting some juicy deets on the secret society Order X and the narrator’s (Giancarlo Esposito) role in this. Season 3 of Dear White People is set to debut Aug. 2, but it’s already getting rave reviews–a rarity for a veteran sitcom. “If everyone stayed exactly the same, life would be tedious and predictable… like the third season of a Netflix show,” Reggie says in the trailer.

Dear White People | Season 3 Official Trailer | Netflix - YouTube

You’ll have to wait to see how exactly things get all switched up–but Entertainment Weekly has said of the new season, “Dear White People captures the boundless mood of college life better than any TV series I’ve ever seen.”

So obviously it’s lit!

Christmas / Black Friday in July is still going strong thanks to Nordstrom’s Anniversary 2019 sale, guys. Following Amazon’s two-day Prime Day event, Target’s Deals Day sale, and WalMart’s blow out rollback extravaganza earlier in the week, Nordstrom’s Anniversary sale is basically the grand finale of this deal-packed month (though it will run from now until August 5th). The Anniversary sale went live last week, but was only available to shop for Nordstrom card holders. But, the wait if finally over. As of today, the expansive sale (which is packed with major opportunities to save across categories throughout apparel, home, and beauty) is officially live and shoppable to everyone.

And, this isn’t just an end-of-season sale held for the purpose of getting rid of old inventory in order to usher in fresh collections for fall; it’s actually quite the contrary. Most of the markdowns for the apparel, shoes, and accessories portion are actually on autumn styles, from chunky sweaters for transitional dressing, to elevated, everyday ankle booties and even lightweight trenches and leather jackets discounted at up to 50% off retail prices (they’ll go back to regular prices on August 5). It’s basically the perfect excuse to already start shopping for cozy fall weather without feeling guilty about dropping huge sums of cash on items you can’t even wear yet — especially if you’re already sick of the summer heat and over your crop tops, floral mini dresses and strappy sandals. Here’s everything we’re currently adding to our carts (so far).

Nordstrom.

1. Free People Check Blazer, $168 $111.90

A versatile floral print that will work throughout the remainder of summer and throughout the fall.

Nordstrom.

3. Halogen Bias Cut A-Line Skirt, $98 $58

Nordstrom.

4. BP Long Line Cardigan, $49 $31.90

The perfect piece to give a sexy slip dress a casual, daytime vibe.

Nordstrom.

5. Avec Les Filles Star Trench Coat, $335 $219.90

Star power.

Nordstrom.

6. Topshop Jamie High Waist Skinny Jeans, $75 $49.90

Slight distressing for a lived-in look.

With the arrival of hot AF weather comes the inevitable arrival of pool parties and beach vacations. Whether you’re planning an elaborate trip to the tropics or you have access to a pool all summer long (or just a day), you’re going to want myriad adorable swimsuits to wear. With all this cute plus-size swimwear on sale right now, you can stock up while staying on budget. Even if you’re someone who’s apprehensive about baring all in a swimsuit, hopefully these sales—and swimwear styles!—will change your mind.

Everyone deserves to feel good wearing a swimsuit—case and point. There’s no “right” way to wear a bathing suit, and there’s certainly no “right” body for a swimsuit, either. Sometimes it feels like the swimsuit industry (Is that a thing? I think it’s a thing.) is out to get plus-size women. So many swimsuits are flimsy pieces of barely-there fabric that have no support for larger breasts or any sort of body coverage for those who want it. Some plus-size women love to bare it all, but even swimsuits made to show a lot of skin don’t often come in extended sizing. And for those who want more coverage from their swimsuit, there are few options that are actually cute. It feels like we’re playing a rigged game.

But summer is a time to have fun and try new things, and that’s what I plan to do this year regarding plus-size swimwear. Because I know how exhausting it can be to try and find cute plus-size swimsuits in all different styles—bikini, high-waisted two-piece, once piece—I scoured the web and rounded up XX super cute sale plus-size swimsuits that will leave you feeling confident and ready to hit the pool. Whatever your personal preference (or budget), there’s a swimsuit option waiting for you. So go ahead and dive in.

Don’t @ me when I say this, but summer bags are kind of a nuisance. During the summer, all you want to do is bask in the sunlight, frolic around the park and find excuses to go to the beach—at least, that’s all I want to do. And all these genuinely active activities are hampered by the addition of a handbag, clutch or even a crossbody. (No matter how many times I adjust the strap on my go-to crossbody bag, it seems to thump, thump, thump against my leg with every step I take. This is a cry for help.)

I’m of the mind that life would be better if all our belongings could fit neatly in our pockets, thus maximizing our mobility as we do our summer basking in the sunlight, frolicking around the park, and so on. But reader, that isn’t what reality looks like. On my best, most pared-down day, I still need my go-to crossbody—and on my worst, I need a full-on backpack. Summer bags are a necessary evil (really, bags during any season are a necessary evil, but nuisances feel far more inconvenient when it’s humid AF outside). And if something’s going to be vaguely annoying, it better be cute.

Thankfully, this summer’s bag selection fits the bill. There are tons of summer bags on offer right now—most of them so adorable I don’t even mind the idea of carrying them around all day. Seriously, I hate clutches and everything they stand for (if you expect me to hold anything but a drink or phone in my hand for hours on end, you’re legitimately deranged), but I encountered a summer 2019 clutch or two I actually feel tempted to purchase and carry. (That’s excessively high praise coming from me, an excessively curmudgeonly bag shopper; in other words, it’s a BFD.) And that’s just the clutches. There are countless bucket bags, totes and crossbodies that have me just as enticed.

Bags aren’t my thing, but this summer’s bags definitely are. The selection is so incredibly vast that everyone from the handbag-obsessed to the handbag-reluctant can (clearly) find something they’re looking for—or, in my case, something they weren’t looking for at all.

The cow spot trend continues to endure.

A classic crossbody in an anything-but-basic palette.

A decidedly fresh take on beaded bags.

Mini-backpacks are equal parts cute and convenient—what’s not to love?

When the options are this fun, who could ever have straw bag fatigue?

You might not be able to turn yourself into a mermaid, but at least you can feel like one.

Fodder for your next Instagram.

I’m typically a little wary of belt bags, but this one is too cute to pass up.

Here for iridescent anything.

A more office-facing take on cow spots.

The kind of tote a superhero would carry.

Not sure how much you could fit in this mosaic crossbody, but it’s so cute it kind of doesn’t matter.

We’re digging up some clues of our own with this new trailer. The Nancy Drew trailer offers a few Riverdale easter eggs we simply cannot ignore. Longtime fans of the sleuthing, teen detective will find a lot of similarity between the new series and one of their favorite CW shows.

The latest iteration of Nancy Drew is slated for a post-Riverdale slot this fall and will premiere on Wednesday, October 9. Jughead, Archie and the gang will have a new character added to the Riverdale world, but this Nancy Drew won’t be like the mysteries people grew up reading. This time, Nancy Drew will have a much darker tone, the likes of the aforementioned CW series and Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, the sister drama to the Riverdale series that operates within the same universe. Nancy Drew, however, will have a firmer link to the CW series, unlike the bewitching Netflix drama.

One key element of the new series has been changed from the original, as the creative team thought Nancy Drew’s original town, River Heights, was too close to the town of Riverdale. According to TV Guide, the team behind the new series has changed the high school graduate’s town name to Horseshoe Harbor.

Watch The CW's Nancy Drew Trailer - YouTube

But that’s not the only change to the young detective’s story. In this iteration, Nancy is taking a year off from college working at the town’s diner, The Claw. When a prominent member of the town is found dead in the diner, Nancy and the other kids, including book series staples like Bess (Maddison Jaizani) and George (Leah Lewis), begin to investigate the situation. Even Nancy’s love interest gets a bit of an update, as Tunji Kasim plays ex-con Nick, the TV counterpart of Nancy’s longtime boyfriend, Ned.

There’s also a hint of the supernatural, as the Horseshoe Harbor is supposedly haunted by a ghost named Lucy Sable – who may be linked to the death of the socialite. Fans should expect a complete adaptation of the original stories, but a contemporary twist on the classic, mystery series. “The truth is, we all have secrets,” says Nancy in voiceover. “Everyone’s a suspect.”

Nancy Drew premieres on the CW October 9 after Riverdale.

We know the post-concert blues can be a real bummer. But don’t worry. BTS’ Love Yourself concert movies are available for streaming and we have the details for how you can watch them. Fans of the international band go absolutely bonkers for their music. Now, for those who weren’t able to attend their concert or simply want to relive the experience, there’s a way.

BTS’ first first-ever U.S. stadium concert was held at Citi Field in October 2018 and fans still haven’t shaken the feeling. That concert, along with one other, will be available for streaming for fans to check out. The concerts getting the special treatment are BTS’ New York and European concerts, both of which were previously released on DVD. Fans will feel like they’re right there in the middle of all the melodic action. It’s a treat for those who were able to attend, reliving the energy and performance. But for those who were unable to attend any of the concerts on the band’s tour, it’s a chance to feel like they’re a part of it all. Prior to the release of the streams, two trailers for each concert were released. Both of which you can watch them both below:

The BTS World Tour Love Yourself Europe was held at the London O2 Arena, and fans will be able to see the group tour all across Europe. Both streams look to offer something different for fans, highlighting both concerts in different ways. While the streams are slated to be “coming soon,” per the trailers, they’ll be available exclusively on Apple TV and Amazon Prime Video starting on July 23. Fans will have the opportunity to rent or purchase the concert films. If fans choose the purchase option, they’ll have access to bonus content. It’s a treat for any fan of the group regardless!

We’re putting our detective caps on for this one. Hailey Baldwin’s retiring from modeling clue was posted and then deleted on her Instagram. The supermodel is only 22-years-old and it looks like she might be leaving her modeling career behind. Or, at least, it would seem that way.

The IMG Models client took to Instagram and write quite the enigmatic caption to one of her photos she shared with her followers. Just two days ago, Baldwin shared an old modeling pic of herself from the Zadig & Voltaire Fall/Winter 2018 show on the social media platform. While the photo is stunning, the caption left us with a ton of question. She got very harsh with herself, critiquing her runway walk and blasting, what she believes, is her poor form.

“What I do know is that ur arm truly should never wing this high when ur walking on a runway,” Baldwin wrote over the photo. “Hence why it is not, and will never be my thing again lol.” We’re always our own worst critics, but with a platform as huge and far-reaching as Baldwin’s it does get us down to see such a stunner take her self down in such a way, even if it is just a joke.

Source: Instagram

The post has since been deleted with the model’s account only showing some stunning images of photoshoots she has done in the past. Baldwin, who married singer Justin Bieber in 2018, still seems keen on continuing her modeling career. Plus at only 22-years-old, the model has a number of years ahead of her pave in the fashion industry.

With an influx of Kylie Jenner vacation pictures on Instagram lately, there’s been so many good ensembles to look at while I sit at home, definitely not on vacation. I’ve been attempting to live vicariously through these sultry beach looks the reality star has been posting, but one particular swimsuit has rocked me to my core. On Thursday, Kylie Jenner wore a naked-effect swimsuit so trippy and confusing, I’m not totally convinced she didn’t just go to the beach actually nude. I mean, I know the reality star didn’t just post nude photos to Instagram, but this swimsuit look is all kinds of wild.

Typically, I see Jenner rocking all sorts of stringy bikinis or revealing one-piece swimsuits. Her most recent swimsuit is also revealing, but not for the reasons you’d think. You know those touristy t-shirts that have a naked person (or someone in a slinky swimsuit) on the front? OK, so think that, but in swimsuit form. The vintage Jean Paul Gaultier one-piece swimsuit fit Kylie Jenner like a glove (of course) and truly made her look confusingly naked.

Source: Instagram

Of course, Kylie Jenner fans tracked down the Jean Paul Gaultier swimsuit and discovered it’s from his Spring 1999 collection (and estimated to be about $590). Unfortunately, this means we’re all hard-pressed to copy Jenner’s look, but what’s new? Frankly, I don’t know if I have the confidence or desire to try and pull off a nude-effect swimsuit anyway. However, if you’re still itching to get a least part of this look for yourself, you can snag Jenner’s Jacquie Aiche disco shaker hoop earrings for only $6,250. If you have that kind of cash lying around, I say go for it. At that point, you might as well attempt to find the vintage Jean Paul Gaultier swimsuit too. Meanwhile, I’ll be over here browsing the clearance racks and pretending I have a beach vacation coming soon.
