Yani + Divinity’s EPIC Liberty House wedding was simply amazing. I’ve photographed at Liberty House a lot over the years but they transformed the spaces into something that was one of a kind.
A common question that is asked of most couples is “how did you meet?” For Yani + Divi, it involves Beyoncé. They met while both were a part of the Beyoncé Experience, Beyoncé’s third concert tour – with Yani as a dancer and Divinity as the musical director of her all-female band. While on tour around the world, Japan had a special place in the couple’s heart and they incorporated origami in many of their details – from the invitation, to the place cards to the cake.
Yani + Divinity had the most perfect May weather with blue skies and clear views of the NYC skyline. They got ready at the Hyatt Regency Jersey City and had their first look against the city skyline. We continued with portraits at Liberty State park, including the very nice security guard who gave us 2 very long minutes to shoot inside the historic Train Terminal building even though it was supposed to be closing.
The morning of the wedding, Divinity woke up without a voice. But she was determined to find a way to say her vows (which she did after resting her voice all morning) and also surprising Yani with a mini performance during the reception.
Together for 12 years and they marked their union in the most beautiful and unique-to-them ways that made the day personal and special.
A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of photographing Kate + Laura’s Kolo Klub wedding celebration. We started at the Hoboken waterfront with the NYC skyline behind us and the greenery of Pier A as a perfect spring backdrop. Kate + Laura got married at the court house on another day, so the celebration at Kolo Klub was just that – lots of celebrating and dancing with friends and family.
It’s been a busy winter of weddings for me and the next winter wedding I’m excited to share with you is Brittany + Mike’s wedding at Kolo Klub in Hoboken. Brittany and Mike didn’t see each other until Brittany walked down the aisle, with the cutest flower girls preceding her walk with her dad. We utilized every last ray of sunshine for their photos after the ceremony when the couple braved the cold for some awesome photos in the industrial part of Hoboken near Kolo Klub. And then Eclipse Events did their magic and had the dance floor moving all night long.
Jillian + Brian’s February wedding at The Lodge at Stirling Ridge was everything a winter wedding should be – cozy and full of love and smiles. A self-defined low-key couple who make each other laugh constantly, their day was full of emotions from laughter to sweetness and everything in between. Even though it was February, it was a somewhat warm day for winter and we were able to do all their portraits outside before heading inside The Lodge for their ceremony. Their reception began with a beautifully choreographed first dance and then Anthony of Eclipse Events kept the dance floor packed with revelers. Even grandmom got in on the dance floor action!
The sweet moment of brothers Jack and Charlie holding their baby sister, Annie, during hew newborn session is why I love what I do. Just look at their faces as they watch her in their arms! It was such a pleasure meeting this family and their newest addition.
My first wedding of 2019 was of the adorable couple, MeeJin + James. A Jersey City couple, they wanted a Jersey City wedding and Talde JC was the perfect location for their celebration. Even though it was a rainy day, they still wanted to go outside and get some photos in the neighborhood. The Jersey City mural arts program has really transformed the downtown and it was great to incorporate some of the street art into MeeJin + James’s wedding photos. Their wedding ceremony was officiated by a good friend and afterwards family and friends were treated to an amazing dinner with many of MeeJin + James’s favorite dishes from Talde.
It’s always a pleasure photographing friends’ families and visiting with the S family is no exception. While I still miss them not being around the corner in Jersey City, it’s been a few years since they moved to the ‘burbs near Princeton and they absolutely love their (not so new anymore) home. We had a perfect fall afternoon to take some updated photos of them as a family. Can’t wait until the next time!
