Are You At Risk for Hurricane Damage?
The threats from hurricanes to you and your family can vary widely depending on where you live in South Carolina. It’s not just those along the coast of our state that can experience significant, life-threatening impacts. Evaluate what you need to do to protect your home and family today, before the first storm of the season even forms in the Atlantic Ocean.
Will You Need To Evacuate When a Hurricane Hits South Carolina?
Make sure you have a hurricane evacuation plan for your family. The first thing you need to do is find out if you live in a storm surge hurricane evacuation zone or if you’re in a home that would be unsafe during a hurricane. If you are, figure out where you’d go and how you’d get there if told to evacuate. You do not need to travel hundreds of miles. Identify someone, perhaps a friend or relative who doesn’t live in an evacuation zone or unsafe home, and coordinate with them to use their home as your evacuation destination. Be sure to account for your pets, as most local shelters do not permit them. There are some pet-friendly hotels who will allow you to bring your pets. Know which ones they are so you can book a stay in those! Put the plan in writing for you and those you care about.
Gather Hurricane Supplies Now Before They Are Sold Out!
Just having enough supplies to make it through a hurricane isn’t enough. You need plenty to make it through what could be a LONG recovery period too. Water and electricity could be out for a week or more. Have enough non-perishable food, water and medicine to last each person in your family for a minimum of one week. Also make sure you have extra cash, a battery-powered radio, flashlights, and a portable crank or solar powered USB charger to charge your cell phone. Having lived through several hurricanes already, we at Strand Security know the importance of preparedness and how quickly supplies dwindle.
Don’t delay. Get your supplies, including a generator now.
Check Your Insurance Coverage and Purchase Flood Insurance Now
We encourage you to call your insurance company or agent and ask for an insurance checkup to make sure you have enough homeowners insurance to repair or even replace your home. …and remember, standard homeowners insurance doesn’t cover flooding. Whether you’re a homeowner or renter, you’ll need a separate policy for flooding. Act now as flood insurance requires a 30-day waiting period. Don’t forget to give us at Strand Security a call as well! You will want to know how to access your system remotely in case of an evacuation, and you’ll need a back-up battery.
Prepare Your Home Now!
If you plan to ride out a hurricane in your home, make sure it is in good repair and up to local hurricane building code specifications. Have the proper plywood, steel or aluminum panels to board up the windows and doors. Remember, the garage door is the most vulnerable part of the home, so it must be able to withstand high winds.
Help The Elderly, Help the Less Fortunate, Help Your Neighbors!
Many Americans rely on their neighbors after a disaster, but there are also many ways you can help your neighbors before a hurricane approaches. Ask your neighbors about their evacuation plans so that you can stay in contact during the storm. In case of a fire, downed trees, flooding or loss of power, it’s essential you can reach your direct neighbors.
Get Ready Now and Plan for an Emergency!
The time to prepare for a hurricane is today before the season begins on June 1. Once you’re under pressure, having an actionable plan will take the guesswork out of what you need to do to protect you, your business, your pets and your family.
Know where you will ride out the storm and get your supplies now. You don’t want to be standing in long lines when a Hurricane Watch is issued. Those supplies that you need will probably be sold out by the time you reach the front of the line.
Being prepared now will mean the difference between your being a hurricane victim and a hurricane survivor.
All these factors what type of cameras you need and where they should possibly be installed.
How Many Security Cameras Does Your Home Need?
The best person to ask this question to is your alarm system dealer. They have experience with this and can give you an estimated number of cameras needed to monitor your home, depending on the size, location and your needs.
The best part is that if you currently have an existing system without cameras, it is fairly easy to add cameras, and even easier to add additional cameras at a later date since you’ll be wired already.
How Can You Get The Best Security Cameras For Your Home?
How often we hear this from our visitors? Oh my, all the time!
Do you hear the same thing about the Grand Strand?
We hear this from people on vacation who visit the Grand Strand and fall in love with our beaches, our way of life and the laid back attitude found in and around town.
However, living in a place you vacation is a totally different thing than visiting, as we all know.
Case in point; New York City is a great place to visit as a tourist, but how many of us really want to go live in Manhattan where the cost of living is high, traffic is crazy and one of the few places to go play outdoors is in Central Park?
We love our Grand Strand for all that it is and all that it offers.
Are you ready to make a move?
Want To Move To The Grand Strand?
If you are someone who is considering, or is ready, to move to the Grand Strand, or you know someone who is contemplating making this move, this article is for y’all!
In this article, we will give you five reasons you too should become a Grand Strand resident and move to the beach; the best beach in South Carolina, hands down.
Here are our Top 5 Reasons To Live on the Grand Strand
Depending on where you are coming from, the weather can’t be beat! If you are contemplating a move here from ‘the north’, South Carolina and the Grand Strand will offer you sun, sun and more sun and very little, if any, snow and ice. Certainly not enough snow to have to own a snow shovel or a windshield scraper.
Locally we joke that we have a short Spring and almost immediately move from winter to summer and that’s no lie. Springtime is glorious and our weather is why millions of golfers descend on our town in the springtime (and the fall) to play on our beautifully maintained golf courses. A forecast of sun, decent temperatures, and low humidity make for a perfect golf paradise.
Summers are hot and humid, but all homes and businesses have central AC and we have pools and the beach! The Grand Strand sports 60+ miles of beach and thousands of pools!
If you love to play golf, swim and outdoor living, come live on the Grand Strand. We enjoy the outdoors all four seasons!
Have we mentioned our beaches yet?
They are beautiful, plentiful and diverse. If you like busy beaches with activities like parasailing and banana boating, try our Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach beaches. If you want nature and the beach, try the beaches at our two State Parks; Myrtle Beach State Park and Huntington Beach State Park. If you like more secluded beaches, visit The Point in Pawleys Island or Cherry Grove beach. Fishing can be done on all beaches and from many piers.
The beach offers great family entertainment; how about enjoying the beach year around?
Go Karts, Science Center, Aquarium, Putt-Putt, Bowling, Rides, Wheels, Games, Movies, and much much more! Anytime you want to get off the beach, come to town to have fun.
4. Housing Market
Myrtle Beach and the Grand Strand are still growing and growing. New infrastructures, new hospitals, new schools, new restaurants, shopping malls, and new entertainment; in the nearly 10 years we’ve lived and worked here at Strand Security, we’ve seen lots of growth and change!
The housing market is great for buyers – homes are still affordable and there are many new neighborhoods popping up.
5. Cost of Living
If nothing else will entice you to make the move to our beautiful area, the low cost of living on the Grand Strand should do it! Compared to other states, our cost of living expenses are lower than most and there are plenty of jobs to be had for those who are skilled and willing to work.
Property taxes are low and we have one of the best merit-based scholarship systems for college-bound students in the USA. If you have children, this alone could make a move to the Grand Strand attractive.
What is Not To Love About the Grand Strand?
We absolutely love where we live and work, play and relax and we know you will too!
Come join us permanently and when you do buy a home, let us know how we may help make your move safer and more secure.
Alcohol and texting; sadly these are two of the leading causes of teenage car accidents.
If you are a parent of a teen, a teacher, a grandparent, an uncle, aunt, neighbor or friend of a teenager, please read and participate! Your safety and security is our business, and that includes your teenagers.
The Drive-N-Live EVENT will demonstrate the dangers of driving while under the influence of alcohol and technology. Participants will wear “drunk” goggles while driving go-karts on an obstacle course set up on the track at Fun Warehouse. They will also attempt to send a text while maneuvering the obstacle course, hear from speakers and more.
As parents of three teenagers, we at Strand Security are proud to sponsor this event in Myrtle Beach!
Check out these drunk goggles. You’d be surprised how off balance you are when wearing these.
When and Where Does The Drive-N-Live Event Take Place?
This FREE event takes place on March 20, 2019, at the Fun Warehouse which is located on Dick Pond Road in Myrtle Beach. it starts at 5:30 PM.
To sign up, register on or before March 18 by clicking here bit.ly/DriveNLive
The event is FREE to the public.
If you add the keywords ‘Myrtle Beach Crime Rate’ in your Google search bar, you will find that both ‘high’ and violent’ are words associated with it.
That is not a good sign, is it?
Upon further search, we also discovered that Myrtle Beach was listed on a ‘most dangerous cities in U.S.’ list that frankly is not very flattering to our beach! Sadly, this article which takes the top spot in the aforementioned Google search was republished by Myrtle Beach online, our local newspaper.
What these Crime Stats Mean For You, the Grand Strand Resident
As you look at the stats and keep a close eye on the crime rate, you will see that many incidences of crime happen near the tourist areas of the Grand Strand. Meaning – near Ocean Boulevard, and near hotels, tourist attractions and at construction sites. That does not mean crime doesn’t happen in neighborhoods around the Grand Strand, but a large concentration of crime happens in areas that are deemed ‘tourist’ areas.
We encourage you to be informed.
