When BOTOX® treatment first emerged in the 1990s, it was the celebrated wrinkle-eraser of the rich and famous. While it still is one of the most popular cosmetic treatments today for many people, it also has power in other medical areas. The many uses of BOTOX® is one of the biggest medical breakthroughs of the last few decades. Here at South Lake OBGYN, we are proud to offer this cosmetic solution and encourage you to learn more about it.

What is BOTOX®?

The BOTOX® substance used to remove your crow’s feet and frown lines is a purified protein serum. When it is used for cosmetic and medical purposes it is used in such tiny amounts that it is completely safe. When it is injected into you in extremely small concentrations it blocks the signals from the nerves to the muscles. This effectively paralyzes the muscles. Your face looks smooth and wrinkle-free. Some of the other medical conditions of which it relieves symptoms are multiple sclerosis, chronic muscle spasms, cerebral palsy, migraine headaches, and excessive sweating.

Static vs. Dynamic Wrinkles

BOTOX® treats dynamic wrinkles and has virtually no effect on static wrinkles although it may soften their appearance to a certain extent for some time. Our experts in the field of dermatology can distinguish between static and dynamic wrinkles. Static wrinkles form on the face as we age no matter what we do and deepen as time goes by. They may make you look older than you are. The most common static wrinkles are across the cheeks, along the corner of the mouth and the neck. These appear because collagen production declines and the skin loses elasticity. Static wrinkles are usually treated with dermal fillers.

BOTOX® treats the wrinkles that form when we make repeated facial expressions. These are called dynamic wrinkles. Emotions such as worry, sadness, fear, joy, or surprise all require facial expressions. Laughing and crying are probably the most common. When the emotions pass and your face relaxes, the wrinkles are gone. After repetitive muscle movements, all of these emotions leave their mark on the face in the form of dynamic wrinkles. The main ones are frown lines between the eyebrows, crow’s feet, forehead lines, and smile lines. BOTOX® may also be used to give a lateral eyebrow raise, minimize dumpling of the chin, and minimize the muscle of the face that we use to chew.

BOTOX® injections block the movement of the muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles. The source of the movement is paralyzed and the treatment can be given every four to six months depending on several factors that will be mentioned later.

The Many Uses of BOTOX®

Along with the aesthetic application that helps you look younger by removing the frown lines between the eyebrows and canthal lines or crow’s feet, BOTOX® is used to treat more than 20 medical conditions and is constantly being tested to treat more applications. Among many conditions, it is approved to treat:

• Eyelid spasms called blepharospasm, which are abnormal contractions of the eyelids. The symptoms may develop without warning and start as gradual blinking or eye irritation. It may be in conjunction with emotional tension, fatigue or light sensitivity. When the symptoms become more frequent, facial spasms may begin.
• Chronic migraine headaches mean you have a history of migraine headaches and get about 15 tension headaches a month of which eight are a migraine. BOTOX® was approved in 2010 for adults who get chronic migraines.
• Excessive underarm sweating called severe primary axillary hyperhidrosis can be stopped for a number of months with BOTOX® injections. BOTOX® was approved by the FDA in 2004 as an effective treatment for hyperhidrosis.

What to Expect

When you talk to our doctor about your cosmetic or medical issue, you can learn about the many ways BOTOX® treatment may help. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you need to wait until you have delivered and finished breastfeeding. If it is determined that BOTOX® you can benefit from BOTOX® injections, you should tell our specialist if you have had any BOTOX® treatments in the past four months. Also mention any prescription drugs you take such as anticoagulants, allergy medications, muscle relaxants or sleeping aids. Our physician will tell you which medications to stop for a few days before your treatments. You should also mention if you take any herbal remedies or dietary supplements.

It is important before any cosmetic procedure that will alter your appearance that you understand your motivations and desired results. If you have unrealistic expectations, our experts can help you understand the possible results. No one should undergo a cosmetic procedure because he or she is being pressured to do so by someone else. The decision is yours alone. Once you realize this, you will be happy with the outcome.

The procedure is virtually painless. If you prefer, we can apply a topical numbing cream approximately half an hour before the treatment. Some people who are having their palms treated for excessive sweating prefer a numbing cream. We perform the injections in our office. How many injections you need may depend on the size of the area being treated among other things. The dosage is also different for each person.

After the treatment, you should not rub or massage the treated area for at least 24 hours. This means only gently wash your face at night. We don’t recommend that you do a strenuous exercise where you get overheated for a day or two after the treatment. There is no recovery time and you can return to work or other daily activities immediately after the procedure.

It may take up to five days to see the results. The effects are not immediate but some people see a difference after 24 hours and some need to wait a week. It could take two weeks to reach the maximum results. The time it takes to see results depend on how long it takes for your body to start reacting to the toxin. Each individual heals differently. Age and the degree and depth of the wrinkling, as well as the underlying strength of the muscles all, play a part.

Some facial muscles are very strong in the treatment area and take longer to respond to the toxin. If your lines are deep, they may not resolve completely although they will reduce. It may depend on your age when you have your first BOTOX® treatment.

How long the results last is another variable. Once you have the treatment there are certain steps to take to help prolong the effects. Smoking, excessive alcohol intake, sun exposure and stress all contribute to collagen breakdown. Collagen is the protein that holds your skin together. When it starts to breakdown it will decrease the length of time the BOTOX® results will last. Our skin specialist will give you instructions about how to care for your face to prolong the effects and recommend skincare products such as moisturizers, makeup and sunscreens that will work best with your skin type.

Factors That Affect How Long BOTOX® Lasts

• The individual’s rate of metabolism as some people metabolize the toxin quickly
• The strength of the facial muscles as it wears off more quickly in strong muscles
• The time BOTOX® stays effective can be reduced by hard cardio exercise
• The more treatments you have, the weaker the muscles become and the longer the effects last
• The first time may last a shorter time than subsequent times as the muscles are still strong

Research Continues

BOTOX® is still being tested for many other conditions that may be related to dynamic muscle activity. One of the most interesting is as a treatment for depression. Based on the idea that if you can’t frown or make a sad or worrisome expression, you may be able to avoid some of those emotions. It may be one way to help some people avoid bouts of depression.

BOTOX® Can Be Combined with Other Cosmetic Options

BOTOX® injections to help you look and feel younger need not be the only treatment you get. They can be done in conjunction with several other non-invasive cosmetic procedures for overall smoother, more youthful looking skin. These may include:

• Injectable fillers that may be used to restore volume to the skin especially static wrinkles for a softer, smoother appearance. These fillers may also be used for cheek and lip augmentation.
• Different types of skin rejuvenation treatments such as microdermabrasion, facials and chemical peels that may remove fine lines and wrinkles giving a more youthful appearance.
• Facial surgery such as a facelift, brow lift, eyelid surgery or neck lift can all be augmented with BOTOX® injections.

The purpose of a glycolic acid peel is to improve the overall appearance of the skin and shrink the pores. This acid comes from sugar cane, and the chemical peel is classified as a moderate treatment. This means the procedure targets the top layer of your skin as opposed to the deeper layers. This type of peel is administered by a qualified professional. In most cases, the results last for numerous months. Glycolic acid is referred to as an AHA. This is in reference to the chemical structure. The molecular structure is very small to enable the acid to penetrate the skin. This enables dead skin cells and excess sebum to be dissolved. The result is younger, brighter and smoother-looking skin. The benefits of this type of peel are almost endless.

The peel increases your natural production of collagen and decreases the look of wrinkles and fine lines as time passes. You skin will appear more refined, refreshed and brighter, and any dullness will be eliminated. This is due to the small molecular size of the acid. The peel is safe for every type of skin and has the smallest molecular size of all the acids currently available. The treatment also provides a thorough exfoliation. The dead skin cells on the surface of your skin are removed. This enables the smooth, fresh new skin layer to emerge. This is one of the most common peels with consistently increasing popularity. One of the most common uses is for anti-aging. The peel provides your skin with a more youthful look and feel. Another use is the lightening of discoloration from age spots and sun spots.

Although this peel is unable to change the actual size of your pores, large pores can be effectively tightened. This is because the congesting materials holding your pores open are cleared away. You will most likely notice a positive difference in whiteheads, blackheads and acne. Numerous individuals have decided to have this treatment done to help prevent acne by exfoliating the skin, cleansing the pores and providing protection against germs. Other individuals have used cosmetic products resulting in dry skin or pimples. This procedure is an excellent option for the correction of skin imperfections. This is especially effective for the facial skin. This is an alternative to injections and other treatments yet offers the same younger-looking skin, or even better results.

The acid reacts with your skin to dissolve unhealthy substances binding the cells of your skin together. A glycolic acid peel is also a good option for treating an uneven skin texture, dullness, acne, wrinkles, fine lines, blackheads and oiliness. The skin enhancing benefits are excellent and safe for any type of skin. The frequency of the peels depends on the sensitivity level of your skin, your age and the type of skin. The number and frequency of peels will be recommended by a professional based on your specific wants and needs. Once the dead skin cells have been eliminated, you will see a noticeable difference in the appearance and quality of your skin. The actual concentration of glycolic acid and the pH levels vary depending on the type of peel used and the professional.

The most effective peels have a lower yet pure concentration of the acid as opposed to a peel using a variety of other ingredients. It is important to note that you should use a high-quality moisturizer along with the peels to achieve the best possible benefits for your skin from the treatment. There are different concentrations of glycolic acid. These generally contain between twenty and fifty percent of the actual acid. This is what eliminates superficial skin issues and exfoliates the outer layer of your skin. The damaged, dry and rough skin is removed along with the top layer. This reveals the brighter, fresher and more youthful skin beneath.

The Benefits of a Glycolic Acid Peel

This peel is most commonly recommended for skin discolorations, anti-aging, scarring, wrinkles, fine lines and pigmented or dull skin. The acid belongs to the AHA class naturally found within the environment. In most cases, the acid is derived from sugar cane. This powder contains colorless crystals in the raw state. This type of fruit acid is one of the safest for use on the skin of all alpha hydroxy acids. The first thing you will notice after the procedure is the beginning of the rejuvenation of your skin. The most common skin issues treated with this procedure include:

  • Damage from a sun tan
  • Damage from the sun
  • Wrinkles
  • Acne scarring
  • Acne
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • A dull complexion
  • Large pores
  • Fine lines
  • An uneven skin tone
  • Freckles

You could have a comedone extraction after your chemical peel. Since the top layer of your skin has already been exfoliated, it is much easier to remove any whiteheads, blackheads or small acne remaining after the procedure. Melasma can also be lightened with this treatment. This is a pigmentary skin issue usually resulting from the aging process.

The peel will help shrink your pores and make them appear less obvious. When your pores become clogged with bacteria and dirt, they appear much larger and often cause blackheads. During your treatment, the chemical penetrates your skin. This eliminates the dead skin cells on the top layer of your skin. The bacteria and dirt clogging your pores is cleared, resulting in smaller-looking pores. It is important to note that this type of peel is safe even if your skin is sensitive. Acne scars are often treated with this procedure. The amount of glycolic acid contained in the peel is higher than the majority of products you can purchase over-the-counter to treat acne. This means the peel is capable of targeting more of the problem areas in addition to removing the dead skin cells, bacteria and dirt for a more even complexion.

The glycolic acid peel is used for the treatment of numerous skin conditions. This is because the acid is extracted from plants such as sugar beets, pineapple and sugar cane for a more natural treatment. If you have been exposed to the sun excessively, you may have dark spots and discolorations on the top layer of your skin. These issues can be treated effectively because a new layer of skin is exposed by the peel. This decreases the appearance of all of these issues. The acid enables the cells in your skin to rebuild. This is what removes the dead skin from the outer layer of your skin. This regrowth reveals a more even and brighter complexion. This is the reason this procedure is considered one of the best methods for exfoliation currently available.

This treatment is effective for signs of aging including wrinkles and fine lines. The acid helps strengthen your skin at the deeper layers. This results in softening wrinkles and fine lines to provide a plumper and fresher look. These results can be maintained by repeating the procedure once every so often.

The treatment can eliminate crow’s feet and provide a more youthful and smoother texture because it triggers the growth of healthy substances in the skin. This decreases the signs of aging such as aging skin, fine lines and wrinkles. The exfoliating power of the glycolic acid peel helps rejuvenate dull and tired skin to reveal luminous, fresh and glowing skin.

The Procedure for the Glycolic Acid Peel

The treatment begins when you have a consultation with a professional. The results you hope to achieve and the sensitivity level of your skin will determine the concentration of glycolic acid used for your treatment. Prior to the procedure, the professional will perform an examination to make certain you will not have any unexpected reactions to the peel. This will ensure the professional knows how your skin will respond to the treatment. The peel can be applied to a small section so the professional can monitor your skin for an adverse reaction.

If the professional does not see any reaction, the liquid is easily applied to the targeted areas. The professional decides how long to leave the peel on your skin. The length of time, number of sessions and acid concentration are all determined by the professional. This is based on your tolerability, your skin type and your specific needs.

Once you have completed the process, your skin will be plump and glowing with a more even complexion. Some individuals see a little bit of redness after the procedure. This is nothing to be concerned about and will disappear within just hours. Prior to having the treatment, you will be informed as to the effect of the procedure. There are steps you need to take prior to having your treatment to make certain the procedure is both safe and effective. You should not have any treatment on the areas targeted for your peel for a set amount of time prior to your session.

It is extremely important to tell the professional if you have any abrasions, cuts, rashes or extreme dryness on any of the areas you intend to have treated. It is also important to note that a glycolic acid peel is not recommended for lactating or pregnant women or any individual with active blisters located anywhere on the face. The peel must be postponed until after the infection has been completely cleared. Once the treatment has been successfully completed, you will be provided with instructions for the proper treatment of your skin. It is very important that you adhere to these instructions in order to get the best results possible.

If you are interested in receiving a glycolic acid peel, please schedule your personal consultation with our specialist at South Lake OB/GYN in Clermont. We would be more than happy to address any questions or concerns you may have. Contact us today to book your appointment and get started!

Have you started to notice changes to your daily life and health? Does something feel slightly off, but you just can’t quite put your finger on what it may be? Has the thought crossed your mind that you may have gotten pregnant? Below we’ve listed some of the early signs of pregnancy to help you determine what could be causing your symptoms.

Becoming a parent can be extremely exciting, and it is undeniable that parenthood is a life-changing experience. Some people see motherhood or parenthood as a rite of passage or an important step on the natural path of life. While most of us are familiar with the concept of what pregnancy brings later in life, what does it look like in the beginning?

Identifying the early signs of pregnancy can seem difficult. How do you know for sure if it is just a stomach bug or something more? So what if your period was a little later or lighter last month? While the process of identifying early signs of pregnancy within yourself may seem daunting, it can be easier than you may think. It does require a level of self-awareness and understanding of your personal health and daily wellness. Make sure to pay close attention to your normal health patterns so you are more easily able to note changes or irregularities.

If you think you may be pregnant or are interested in learning more about how you can identify early signs of pregnancy, here are some important changes to watch for.

Noticeable Changes to Your Menstrual Cycle

One of the first indicators people think of when it comes to pregnancy is a late or missed period. However, many women still experience lighter or shorter periods at the beginning of the gestational period. If you notice a major change to your menstrual cycle, purchasing an at-home pregnancy test from the drugstore or pharmacy may be a good idea.

If you have irregular periods or regularly use birth control, this may be a difficult way to indicate a pregnancy. In today’s day and age, there are a variety of smartphone apps available to help you track your periods and monitor the data. Recording this information may provide key information regarding your personal health. However, if your periods are consistently irregular, it is important to share your experiences with a medical professional.

Extreme Fatigue or Drowsiness

Think about when you are sick. Your body is very tired and worn-down as it is working hard to get you healthy. A similar idea can be said for pregnancy as your body has begun going through a major change – growing another human!

Do not write off these feelings of fatigue. It is important to allow yourself plenty of time to relax and rest. If you are concerned you may be pregnant, limit your caffeine intake as much as possible. It is best to rely on adequate sleep as the best remedy for your exhaustion.

Certain Foods Sound Unappealing or Even Disgusting

Have your favorite foods started to sound unappetizing or even downright awful? Food aversions are extremely common at the beginning of a pregnancy! Rising and shifting hormone levels may be affecting your appetite, making food aversions one of the most common early signs of pregnancy. If certain foods have started to sound bad, it is best to avoid them in full as much as possible.

Sensitivity to Smells

A blessing and a curse of pregnancy is often a heightened sense of smell. Pregnancy causes drastic changes in your body’s hormone levels. This can make a woman extremely sensitive to smells as the sense of smell is heightened.

While this change may seem okay as you are better able to smell pleasant things, such as flowers or freshly baked desserts, it is not a perfect change. This makes your body more sensitive to dangerous smells, such as cigarette smoke. If you are concerned you may be pregnant and you smoke, it is important to stop smoking as soon as possible and limit the amount of secondhand smoke you are exposed to.

Frequent Nausea or Vomiting

Morning sickness is one of the most common side effects we think of when it comes to pregnancy. Most women experience morning sickness during the first trimester of their pregnancy. The first trimester lasts for approximately 14 weeks.

The nausea and vomiting are also related to shifting hormone levels. These hormonal changes make a significant impact on your sensitivities and appetite. Certain foods may become triggers, and it is important to be proactive in trying to manage or reduce nausea.

Snacking on small meals instead of eating a few large meals can help combat this frustrating side effect. By “grazing” or consistently eating in small amounts, this helps make sure your stomach is never empty. Being consistently full, even if it is with just some food, can help keep nauseous feelings at bay. Also, it is a good idea to keep bland snacks on hand in case of emergencies.

Breasts Becoming Swollen or Tender

Changes to breasts are often early signs of pregnancy. Pregnancy often causes breasts to become swollen and tender.

As these changes happen, you may need to shop for new bras. Give yourself and your breasts a break by choosing bras that are supportive. However, it is best to choose comfortable bras. Skip choosing bras with underwires. Sports bras, bralettes, or similar compressive brassiere styles may be your best option.

Frequent Trips to the Restroom

Frequent urination is often associated with pregnancy, especially later in the gestational period. However, did you know it is also one of the early signs of pregnancy?

Urination increases as the fetus begins to develop, putting pressure on the bladder. You may constantly feel the need to run to the restroom, and this may also disrupt your sleep. Try to make sure you go to the restroom before going to bed.

Although it may feel like all you are doing is running to the restroom, it is important to not cut back on how much water you drink. In fact, it may be more important than ever to give your water intake a boost! Make sure you are consistently hydrated.

Needing to Catch Your Breath

While we all have times where we feel out of shape or winded, shortness of breath occurs because your body needs more oxygen. It may be struggling to take in all of the oxygen it needs.

When you become pregnant, your body needs more oxygen to provide oxygen to the growing fetus. However, the changes may cause a shortness of breath as your body adapts to the changes. If you are experiencing pain alongside the changes to your breathing pattern, make a note of the experiences and speak with a medical professional as this may indicate a larger concern.

Physical Changes to Your Body

Pregnancy obviously leads to many changes to your body. While you may think of the clear external changes like weight gain and swollen ankles, the intimate area of your body also goes through changes.

Although practicing safe sex and using contraception is important, it does not always happen. Whether it was an intentional choice in hopes of pregnancy or an honest mistake, it is important to make an appointment with a doctor after unprotected sex.

By performing a pelvic exam, a doctor is able to identify some of the anatomical changes that may indicate pregnancy. Pregnancy often causes changes to the color of the vagina as well as softens the cervix.

What Should I Do Next?

It is important to remember everyone will experience pregnancy differently. Along these lines, everyone experiences the early signs of pregnancy differently. Some of these indicators may be more prominent for you than others, but they may all add up to pregnancy.

Purchasing an at-home pregnancy test can help provide you with a better idea as to what you may be experiencing. While these may provide some insight, it is important to remember they are not universally accurate or reliable, especially if the test is taken too early.

Seeking the care of a doctor should be next on your to-do list. While you may not need to rush to the doctor with every pregnancy scare or possibility, it is important when you are experiencing some, many, or all of the early signs of pregnancy. It is especially important once you have tried an at-home pregnancy test, particularly if the test is positive!

How Can a Doctor Help Me Interpret Early Signs of Pregnancy?

Even if the thought of being pregnant has not crossed your mind, it is important to take a proactive approach to your health care. If you have started to notice changes to your everyday health and wellness, speak with a medical professional as soon as possible.

When you seek the care of a medical professional, their pregnancy tests often begin with urine testing, just like at-home testing. However, blood work may also be done, and a sonogram is often performed. This more comprehensive approach allows for an accurate diagnosis.

It is important you come to your appointment prepared. Just as you tell your OBGYN about your last period during your annual well woman visit, it is important to know the details of your most recent period as well as your missed period. This can help calculate your due date.

Getting pregnant is one of the most joyous moments in a woman’s life. There is simply nothing more special than being a mother. Unfortunately, the numerous body and hormone changes created by pregnancy can also cause some difficult health issues. One of the most common complications associated with pregnancy is pain. If this pain is occurring near the lower stomach and groin, then you are likely dealing with a medical condition called round ligament pain. Seeking the advice and treatment of a medical professional is the best way to start feeling normal again.

Causes of Round Ligament Pain

The round ligament is a thick ligament that connects the uterus to the groin. This ligament gradually stretches throughout the pregnancy to help support the womb. The extra hormones produced by your body during pregnancy are supposed to help strengthen the round ligament, but this does not always happen. If the round ligament is not sufficiently strengthened, then it will become strained as your pregnancy progresses. This strain on the round ligament is the primary cause of your unwanted pain.

Signs and Symptoms of Round Ligament Pain

The most obvious sign of a strained round ligament is pain near the lower abdomen and groin. The discomfort is often described as a sharp pain that does not last more than a few seconds. The pain primarily occurs after making quick, sudden movements. This makes it very difficult to laugh, sneeze, cough, or stand up without feeling a horrible pain in the belly.

Your Treatment Options

Treating round ligament pain is all about controlling your discomfort. If the pain is really bad, then the doctor will likely tell you to take an over-the-counter pain medication. It is usually completely safe to take these medications while pregnant, but you should still get approved by the doctor before taking them. Heat has also been proven to help alleviate the symptoms of round ligament pain. The easiest way to get the heat to your stomach is by taking a warm bath or using a heating pad. Prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures can harm the baby, so you need to be very careful when using heating pads and hot water to treat your pain.

While sudden movements can aggravate your symptoms, slowly stretching can be extremely beneficial. These exercises will help strengthen the ligaments surrounding the uterus. Once the ligaments are strong enough to support the womb, your painful symptoms will dissipate. The doctor will provide detailed instructions on exactly how to perform the stretching exercises.

One of the first steps in taking care of your feminine health is finding a good OBGYN who is located in the general area of where you live. When you begin searching for your doctor and typing in “OBGYN near me” into your search browser, keep in mind that offices that aren’t in close proximity to where you live or work might not be beneficial if you experience any issues that could be considered an emergency. The doctor you choose should also make you feel comfortable as there will be situations when you must reveal intimate information.

Talk to your friends or family members about the OBGYN they go to, making sure to ask questions about the care that is given by both the doctor and the nurses. You can also contact your local hospital, especially the labor and delivery unit, to get suggestions for a good OBGYN near you. Find out which doctors specialize in the area of feminine health that you’re experiencing at the moment whether it’s childbearing or menopause.

When searching “OBGYN near me”, find out if the office has all of the lab equipment that is needed for tests that are performed or if you would need to go to another location. This is often a component that some people don’t think about because they assume that each office has these important tools readily available. Call the office to get an idea for how you’re going to be treated when you arrive for your appointment. The person who answers the phone should be warm and pleasant. This person should also have a desire to answer your questions instead of pushing you to the wayside. When you feel like you’re just another caller, you might be treated the same way when you visit the office. If you’re not treated like a person, then it’s not a sign of a good OBGYN.

Ask questions that require thought instead of those that have a simple answer involved. Write down any questions or concerns that you have when you get to the office so that you’re ready for your appointment. A good OBGYN will likely have a longer length of time set aside for your first appointment in order to discuss the reason for your visit and to perform any tests that need to be done.

Schedule an appointment at South Lake OB/GYN to meet with an OBGYN near you who will make you feel comfortable throughout your feminine health journey. Contact us today to book an initial consultation at our office in Clermont. We could be the answer to your “OBGYN near me” search!

If you see an OBGYN for your feminine health, you might think that the office provides the same types of services for all women. However, the obstetrics part of an OBGYN is all about pregnancy, childbirth, and some of the fertility issues that you might face while trying to get pregnant or after having a miscarriage. Gynecology services provided are usually for all ages from teens who are experiencing their first menstrual cycles to older women who are going through menopause.

The obstetrician in the OBGYN office cares for you while you’re pregnant while monitoring the health of your baby as well. If there are any issues that arise during the pregnancy, then your obstetrician will know how to handle them and the best course of treatment that will keep you and your baby as healthy as possible. Your obstetrician is also the doctor who will deliver your baby. Some of the issues that are often addressed by an obstetrician include ectopic pregnancies. This is a pregnancy that doesn’t form inside the uterus. Any signs of fetal distress before and during the labor and delivery process are carefully monitored. If these signs arise, then your obstetrician will be able to make the best call for the safest way to deliver your baby based on your health and the health of your baby.

An obstetrician will examine your body for any issues with the placenta. Obstetrics requires that your blood pressure be monitored during your pregnancy along with various blood levels so that you are healthy while you’re pregnant and after delivery. Your obstetrician will be able to perform either a vaginal birth or a Cesarean depending on the type of birth you’ve experienced in the past, the position of your baby in relation to the birth canal, and the health of you and your baby during delivery.

After you’ve delivered your baby, your obstetrician will continue to provide the care that you need for a few weeks until your uterus is back to its normal size and your body has healed from the birthing process. You’ll usually begin discussing your gynecological health about two months after delivery. While many offices have doctors who provide both types of services, there are many offices that have obstetricians and gynecologists who work independently so as to provide the best care for your needs.

To learn more about obstetrics and the various services we offer at South Lake OBGYN, you can visit one of our offices in Clermont, FL. Contact us today to schedule your appointment!
