St Patrick’s Day is right around the corner! So I’m paying homage with this elegant Shamrock Nail Art. I’ve done funkier St Pat’s nails before – like there Luck of Irish nails and this classic St Patrick’s Day nail design. So this year I opted for a more elegant ‘grown-up’ version, which is still very Irish.
The manicure is done in traditional colours of Ireland, where the pointer finger symbolizes the Irish flag and the middle finger is decorated with an embellished shamrock. To paint the Irish flag finger is pretty easy, especially if you have a good striping brush. Just add lines of green and fire red over white and you’re done!
Now, the shamrock is a bit more complicated… below you’ll find a detailed how to for painting shamrock nails yourself. And speaking of the brush, 02 Needle liner nail art brush would be your best best for this kind work.
HOW TO DO SHAMROCK NAILS:
Apply 2 layers of white polish your nail and let it dry for 5 minutes. Paint the outlines of your shamrock with a liner nail art brush.
Paint outlines of the shamrock leaves.
Fill in your shamrock.
Apply 2 layers of fast dry top coat to smooth your nail art. Let it dry.
Chanel 588 Nuvola Rosa is the limited edition colour that I picked for my second Chanel Spring 2018 inspired nail design. If you like feminine manicures than this delicate cloudy pink nail polish. Plus, the formula is flawless. Fully opaque in just 2 thin coats, Chanel 588 Nuvola Rosa is highly pigmented, fast drying and long lasting, especially if you add a coat of Chanel Le Gel top coat. So if you’re going to visit Chanel beauty counter sometime soon, make sure you try Nuvola Rosa.
Now about the design… It’s been inspired by the colours of the collection. To match this delicate Nuvola Rosa, I opted for an elegant and feminine pattern. It is entirely free hand painted, as you may have already guessed :) I used the SoNailicious Brush 03 Spear to paint the long flawless curves on each nail. This is what this striping nail art brush has been designed for and as you can see, it’s doing the job really well. Freehand nail art is easy when you have the right tools for it ;)

Geode nails are so HOT right now! So today I’m showing how you can do this fabulous Blue Geodes nail design yourself like a pro.
You may remember the very first Purple Geode nails that I created for my Beauty Expo masterclasses last year, which it literally started a new nail trend! The Blue Geode nails that I’m showing you today is the more advanced version. And, if you have really good memory, you may also recall that originally I created these Blue Geodes for the launch of the SoNailicious nail art brush range. Naturally, I’m using my brushes to create the look, so you can see yourself how easy nail art can be with the right tools (read: brushes!).
Now, let’s do it! Grab your favourite blue nail polishes and hit play to watch this Geode nail art video.

Kicking off the first week of Spring with Chanel Verde Pastello! This beautiful pastel green nail polish is one of the four new colours from the new Chanel Napoli collection. While some may argue that this colour is not unique enough to purchase, I’m very excited that Chanel is back on track with bright fun colours and on that high note I’ve invested in the entire collection. So be prepared to see the other three new Chanel nail colours and designs that I created with them on SoNailicious within next week or so.
Now about the design… It’s been inspired by the Italian architecture. I’ve visited Naples (Napoli in Italian) a couple of years ago. I remember there’s a lot of buildings painted in pastel green, pink and peach with white outlines of windows and doors. So as soon as I saw Chanel Verde Pastello I had an idea for a nail art right away – it had to be paired with white!
To do this nail design I went for a shortcut. Instead of removing freshly painted manicure (that would be such a waste!) and starting all over with white, I simply added white Boho stickers (large triangles) and white Aztec nail stickers (small triangles and lines) over my nails. The result is this lovely Neapolitan manicure. Quick, easy and chic!
Mega-Quick Chanel 590Verde Pastello Review: if you’d like to know my opinion on Chanel Verde Pastello, I simply love it! Chanel has really stepped up with their new gel formula. Fully opaque in just 2 thin coats, this nail polish is highly pigmented and very fast drying. It is also quite long lasting, especially if you top it up with Chanel Le Gel top coat.
Chanel 590 Verde Pastello – available now – USD $28 hereand here; in Europe here; AUD $41here.
So, there you have it, my thoughts on Chanel Verde Pastello and the Neapolitan Lace nail design. And, stay tuned for the next design with the second colour from the new Chanel Napoli collection! It will be something very different from this one…
Now, over to you!
How do you like the colour? Are you tempted to invest in Chanel Verde Pastello or do you already have some dupes in your collection?

Which collection is your favourite?
And, what other new spring collection/s that are not on the list you’re coveting right now?
Looking for some new beautiful nail polishes to add to your stash? You’ll love these two new limited edition Kester Black colours! The light lavender Luna and purple blue Aquarius are inspired by the mystery and magic that new year brings. The new ultra chic colous looks so flattering on nails and the formula is just flawless. I don’t know how Anna Ross, the founder of Kester Black does it, but she just keeps improving the formula with every new release. It’s now 10-free (free of 10 main toxic chemicals), vegan, cruelty-free and Halal appropriate! Stunning colours that are also good for you? Yes, please.
So, if you’re a fan of KB you’ve got to have them! Both colours are a part of the new Fortune Teller range that KB is rolling in 2018. I can’t wait to see what else they have in store for us. And, for now let’s enjoy Luna and Aquarius.
Formula: The formula is cruelty-free, vegan and toxin-free, 10-FREE (!!!) to be presize. Also, these polishes are breathable, which makes them Halal appropriate. The polishes are highly pigmented, glossy and moderately fast-drying. You’ll need 2 coats to get them fully opaque. The pictured swatches are with 1 layer of a glossy top coat.
Application: Like all new Kester Black polishes, Luna and Aquarius feature flat, wide and rounded brushes, which makes it very easy to apply them flawlessly. Those with small nail beds may be able to get nail polish on in one stroke.
Colour & Finish:
Luna is a feminine light lavender nail polish in a classic creme finish;
Aquarius is a crisp purple blue nail polish in a classic creme finish.
Wearability: Very long lasting, with a good base and top coat these polishes can last up to 7 – 10 days.
Nail Art: Great for any kind of nail art. I’ve already sketched a few designs in my Little Book of Nail Art, so stay tuned for some Fortune Teller nail art!
Extra Notes: Kester Black polishes don’t smell like most other polish brands and they don’t stain your nails, which is fantastic. Even the brighter Aquarius left my nails in pristine condition, no discoloration at all.
Overall Impression: Needless to say, I’m loving the new Fortune Teller collection and if you ask me, both Luna and Aquarius are must have colours. If you like classic creme polishes, chic crisp colours and you’re into toxin/cruelty free & vegan then you’ll love Kester Black.
What if you’re not feeling like pink nails, lovehearts and cupids on Valentine’s Day? Fear not, you still can pay homage in your own way and in your own colours! I’m a huge fan of anything monochrome, so this year my Valentine’s Day nails are black and white.
The design is inspired by the two Valentine’s Day manicures I did at the very beginning of my SoNailicious career – these Neon Love Valentine’s day nails and these 3D Love Heart nails. This time however, this nail design has a meaning. The negative space heart on the middle finger represents void, the dripping pointer finger represents tears (love does not always have a happy ending) and the black and white split hearts represent the bright and dark side of love.
Dolce & Gabbana Royal Pink is so much more than just a stunning nail colour! This pink creme is loaded with luxurious gold shimmer and looks incredibly flattering on. But most interestingly, this lacquer is incredibly long lasting. I had it on for 14 days and it did not score a single chip or any signs of wear, which is pretty impressive for just a nail polish (not gel!).
I purchased this nail colour in Abu Dhabi, because sadly Dolce & Gabbana Beauty is not available in Australia. I must admit the bright colours of D&G range appeal to me a lot and the quality is superb. The Royal Pink is my second Dolce & Gabbana nail polish and once again I’m very pleased with it’s performance. In fact, if could I’d gladly add more D&Gs to my collection. It’s not as ridiculously expensive as Louboutin and Chanel, while the quality is definitely much higher than Chanel’s.
Now, to learn more about Royal Pink, see my full review below. I’ve already given it away that I’m totally in love with this lacquer, but still, it’s worth to find out all the juicy details… So read on!
Formula: a very glossy creme, 5-free, fast drying and very, very long-lasting. The polish is highly pigmented, you’ll need 2 thin layers to get flawless, fully opaque coverage. Pictured 2 coats.
Application: the polish goes on smoothly without any streaking, it’s thick rounded wide brush enables a smooth, flawless application.
Finish/Colour: Dolce & Gabbana Royal Pink is a limited edition colour from Holidays 2017 collection. It’s a classic glossy creme that covers your nails like a dream. f As for the colour, Royal Pink is an elegant dark rose pink polish loaded with luxurious gold shimmer, which is quite visible on nails and even in shade.
Nail Art: the polish is highly pigmented and is suitable for any kind of nail art.
Dupes: I could not identify any dupes for Royal Pink. The closest colour in my collection is Diorific Precious, but the latter is 2 tones darker fuchsia pink with a different type of shimmer barely visible on nails. So the two are quite different.
Wearability: extremely long-lasting, 14 days with a top coat without any signs of wear!
Extra Note #1: the packaging is so luxurious! The golden lid and the shape of the bottle are pure perfection. One can only dream to have a row of these stunning lacquers standing on their vanity table or nail polish display.
Extra Note #2: by far, I find the Dolce & Gabbana brush is the most convenient to use! It’s wide, soft and rounded with 470 bristles (according to the brand, I did not count the bristles), and makes it very easy to apply nail polish flawlessly,
Overall Impression: I could not find any flaws… quite the opposite, I’m loving every aspect of this Dolce & Gabbana nail polish. The packaging, the formula and the colour are just perfect. So if you can obtain one… you totally should!
Well hello! It’s been a while so first of all, belated Happy New Year nail art warriors! I hope you all had fabulous holiday. But before we proceed to nail arting our way through 2018, why don’t we make a few resolutions to improve our nails health? Whether you already have healthy nails or you’ve been trying to grow longer and stronger nails, these resolutions will come in handy. Because vigorous nail painting without proper care may take toll on the health of your nails. Also having healthy nails helps make your manicure last longer and prevents chipping (even gel manicure won’t last if your nails are brittle and dry) not to mention slightly longer nails mean you have even more space for nail art endeavors.
Instead of a lengthy list of resolutions that no one in the history of humanity will be able to accomplish, I offer you a list of 8 simple actions that can be easily incorporated in your current nail care routine. Even if you add a couple of those to your routine, you will be able to improve your nails health significantly.
Sounds good? Then read on!
8 resolutions to make right now for healthier and stronger nails:
1. Take care of cuticles. Healthy, soft cuticles (or to be correct eponychium) is the key to healthy strong nails. While moisturising cuticles you’re also nourishing your nail bed and thus, promoting healthy nails growth. For this purpose, I highly recommend to try Mavala Nailactan, – this treatment softens cuticles and strengthens nails at the same time. If cuticle creams is not your thing, try one of these cuticle oils. However, if targeted cuticle care is not an option for you, simply use one of these multitasking hand creams. Every time you apply your hand cream, make sure to massage some over cuticles.
Ah and don’t forget, cutting your cuticles is a big no-no. A much safer alternative is to push cuticles back using a treatment like Orly Cutique. Apply the product and let it work it’s magic, then rinse it off and carefully nip only remaining lifted pieces of dead skin – hangnails. Never cut all the way around the cuticle because that will cause the skin to become ragged and tear, opening the way to infections.
2. File like a pro. Nail shape trends are constantly evolving — from oval to square and back to oval. You can change your nail shape as frequently as you please. However, filing your nails properly is the key to maintaining healthy free edge, which prevents nails splitting and breaking. Even better if you use a glass nail file, as it helps to minimise any damage that filing can cause by sealing the free edge instead of fluffing it up.
3. Treat your nails like jewels. Have you ever tried to open a letter or sealed box with your nails? I, surely, did. It may have cost me a nail or two and taught me a lesson of not using my nails as tools. Even if you don’t break your nails immediately, you risk bending the nail back. The white area (also known as the stress area) will weaken and eventually break. So make an effort to pay close attention to how you use nails. Your nails are jewels, so treat them as such and let the tough tools do the work.
4. Eat well. Your diet plays a huge role in all functions of your body. The best foods for strong and healthy nails are those rich in protein and vitamins A, B and E. Simply make sure you eat one-two portions of animal protein (eggs, beef, fish, poultry) and vegetables (broccoli, spinach, carrots and bananas) daily.
Sometimes, however, having a good diet is not enough as genes also play a big part in having brittle nails. If this is the case (for me it certainly is!), add some great supplements that contain biotin and iron to your ration.
5. Do get manicures. A weekly manicure (even for short nails ) is essential to maintaining your nails health. A properly done, step-by-step manicure, whether you do it at home or at salon, will make any nail colour look fantastic. But most importantly it will keep cuticles groomed, protect nails from any potential damage and strengthen them. Here’s how to do manicure at home like a pro.
6. Gloves are your best friends. I know you know it… but just to remind you, there’s nothing can protect your hands and nails from harsh chemicals, hot water and soil than gloves. So please do wear them, let your nails and hands be happy!
By the way, if you’re using a hand sanitiser often, I’d suggest you revisit how you fight with germs. Hand sanitisers are filled with very harsh chemicals and could be doing more harm then good. Using them often may cause severe dryness, hangnails and ragged cuticles, ultimately resulting in nails becoming weak and brittle.
7. Avoid toxic chemicals in nail products. As much as I love nail polish, the hard truth is that by nature every nail polish is a mix of chemicals in a bottle. However, what we can do is to chose wisely and avoid lacquers that are loaded with hazardous materials or toxic chemicals. Nowadays most of the popular brands only offer 3-free nail polish, some are 5-free and a few even moved to 10-free formulas, like Kester Black! Just make sure you always check certifications, when buying new nail polish, especially if you are not familiar with the brand.
8. Moisturize like there is no tomorrow. Unless you suffer from extremely dry skin, you may not moisturise your hands nearly as much as you should. However, your nails would be much stronger if you did. Moisturize your hands with hand lotion every time you wash your hands. Also invest in a rich, highly effective anti ageing hand cream or treatment and apply it every night before you go to bed.
Keep a small tube of hand cream in your hand bag or on your office desk to keep your hands hydrated throughout the day, make sure you massage some over cuticles too. It will help to soften cuticles and prevent hangnails. My favourite at the moment is Kamill Intensive hand and nail cream.
Well, there you have it – 8 simple actions to take right now that can help to improve significantly your nails health and strength.
What’s your secret to growing healthier and stronger nails? Is there anything that we should add to the above list?
Come on, spill, sharing is caring!
P.S. I’d also add to the list ‘Use a good nail strengthener religiously’ but if you’ve been reading SoNailicious for a while, I’m sure you already do! If not, here’s a great list of some of the best nail strengtheners around, including my all-time favourite Orly Nailtrition and Mava-Strong.
