“Camp Courageous is a year-round, recreational respite care facility for individuals with special needs. The camp is run on donations and is number one donation and number one fundraiser is the Manchester Garage Sale. It started back in 1976 and has grown just like the camp has grown over the years, and now with this donation of this beautiful building by the Norby family, it just opens up a lot more opportunities for the camp and for the future.
A number of years ago we were looking at changing the camp over from standard lighting to LED lighting in order to save a lot of money. We received word we were one of the top 5 users of electricity in the Maquoketa Valley. I don’t know if that is something we are too proud of and we were meeting with Ren from Sitler’s and completely redid the whole camp switching 3000 fixtures, going from the old style to all LEDs. We have saved lots and lots of money as a result of that.
Then for the fun of it, we contacted them again and said ‘We had this building donated, would you folks have any interest in helping us out with the electricity because it uses a lot of electricity.’ They said they would be more than happy to. Jason and the gang got behind it and Sitler’s donated all of the products, I mean thousands and thousands of dollars worth of fixtures and then all of the labor is Sitler’s and their friends. You can have a great company, but if you don’t have great people you don’t have very much.
The beauty of Sitler’s is that they have really good products and things like that but they have great people. Like any business, they are out there selling their products, exceptionally good products, but at the same time, they are very big into giving back.
This is just an example of one of the many projects they get behind. Me personally, I want to do business with people like that, that see the total picture, and that it’s not just a one way street about us and making a profit, it’s about giving back too. That’s the type of organization I would want to work for and also the type of organization I want to buy from too.”
Sitler’s hosted the May monthly Business After Hours, put on each month by the Princeton Chamber of Commerce. This event allowed Sitler’s to open their doors to fellow business owners in the Princeton area to meet and network in hopes of continuing to grow our business and positive presence in the community.
Kim Frey, Director, Princeton Chamber of Commerce, “Tonight our May Business After Hours Host, which is Sitler’s LED Supplies, they are fairly new to the Princeton area, we are thrilled to have them. They have been a great asset so far. I think they have been here for almost a year. The Business After Hours is a great way for members to network and get to know each other and hopefully new business will grow from there.”

Premier Ag Systems’ Project Goals
For this LED project, focusing on Premier Ag Systems’ building project for Jesse and Jordan Langdsgard’s barns in Northeast Iowa, Sitler’s goal was to provide durable, environmentally friendly LED lighting, installed simply and efficiently by electricians. The Landsgard structures were built by Premier as a swine facility and a perfect fit for ONCE agriculture animal specific lighting technology provided by Sitler’s LED Supplies.
LED Overhaul with ONCE Agriculture Lighting
ONCE Innovation’s dim to red swine lights were the right fit for this project’s objectives.
They are manufactured to reduce animal stress and improve their welfare, as well as accelerate growth. These unique lights provide all of the amazing benefits of more standard LEDs: a larger lumen count coupled with lower wattage, little heat output, better durability, and a long lifespan.
When slowly dimmed down to red, a light on the color spectrum swine are unable to see, farmers are able to walk and work amongst their livestock without disrupting sleep by abruptly turning on bright lights. In this era of the computer, technology has become extremely advanced. Storage space grows each year, speaker and screen quality continue to rise, and so much more. Yet, the age-old problem of computers and laptops has yet to be solved and it could be hindering the advancement of computer technology. The problem? Heat management. Most computers today have built-in fans to help control and manage heat, but some people are still needing to purchase laptop fans at an additional cost to make sure their computer doesn’t overheat and crash. Could LEDs be an answer to helping with overheating, allowing for a new rise in computer and technology innovation?
Technology’s Overheating Crisis
As long as computers and technology have been around, so has the problem of overheating. Products over the years have continued to shrink in size and weight, as well as their processing systems and this is in part due to developing heat management systems. Now, the tech field is at a bit of an impasse, struggling to continue to streamline new tech products without facing issues of overheating. Plus more tech companies and manufacturer’s are looking for ways to make their products longer lasting while promoting eco-friendly products and data centers. The less heat our technology puts out, the less of a negative impact it has on our environment.
Can LEDs Take the Heat?
One angle scientists are looking at is reducing the heat output of microprocessors. The answer may be using a variant of an LED, with its electrodes reversed. This forces the component to act as if it were at an unusually low temperature, and when placing it next to warmer electronics, the LEDs force out the heat. This is what creates the cooling system. Internet of thing (IoT) devices and smartphones would be devices most likely to benefit from this new cooling system. As these devices continue to get smaller, they are expected to have the same, if not more, computing power. If this new form of LED cooling system pans out, it will help technology producers and manufacturers continue to enhance and improve technology while not compromising speed, data, and processing.

In the past, we have touched on the subject of LED lighting in the healthcare field. It has proven beneficial in the form of human-centric lighting to help patients recover quicker, made lives better for patients suffering from Alzeihmers, and more. Now, LEDs may be able to tackle one of the newest global health epidemics, according to the World Health Organization (WHO): myopia.
What is Myopia?
Myopia is the term for nearsightedness and is considered the most common refractive error in children and young adults. This condition is caused by the eye growing too long from front to back, making light focus in front of the retina instead of directly on it. This type of vision error is often diagnosed young and progresses as you age.
According to WHO, myopia has increased three-fold in just the past 30 years. While there is still up for debate what caused the increase, many believe it is children’s lack of exposure to sufficient natural light. While cases of myopia can be genetic, scientists now believe the reduced exposure to certain wavelengths in sunlight that are beneficial to the retina may be the main cause of the increase in this epidemic.
How Can LEDs Help?
LEDs are the only light on the market that is able to mimic natural daylight and daylight’s changes throughout the course of the day. We have already begun to see this technology with human-centric lighting, which was created to help stabilize, not disrupt, our bodies natural circadian rhythms. Children and young adults spend the majority of their time indoors, looking at screens. Being devoid of natural light, or artificial light that can mimic daylight through solid-state lighting and tunable spectral power distribution increases the chances of developing myopia.
However, this technology is still new and not widely tested. As more of our lives are spent indoors, under artificial light and spent looking at screens comprised of artificial light, the more necessary LEDs become. They can help balance circadian rhythms, reduce eye strain and myopia, as well as many other health benefits we covered in past posts.
Take the First Step with Sitler’s!
We may not yet have the technology to reduce incidences of myopia, but we can help you take the first step on your LED journey. Sitler’s has kept an eye on the human-centric lighting (HCL) trend for the past couple of years. There are blogs on our site about the benefits of HCL in hospitals, nursing homes, classrooms, and offices. While HCL is often talked about, it is not as widespread in its application. Current trends suggest 2019 is the year of HCL’s growth spurt. Here’s why!
Growing Understanding of Lighting Impacts
While experts have touted the benefits of utilizing HCL, it has taken time for the public to fully understand just how much lighting effects us. We all know the invigorating feeling of bright, sunshine-filled spring days after winter’s long and dark nights. We can physically feel the impact natural daylight has on our moods. The same can be said for the artificial lighting we sit under day in and day out. Plus, our modern lifestyle of smartphones, TV, streaming, and constant screen time means that light from our technology is disrupting our natural circadian rhythms. Improving our indoor lighting so that it is adjustable to our needs will play a huge role in our future health, both mentally and physically.
Fighting Social Jet Lag with HCL
What is social jet lag? The term is used to describe issues and ailments that become apparent due to irregular sleep, stress, poor health, etc. Subjecting ourselves to brighter lights for longer periods during the day and into the night throws off our circadian rhythms, causing irregular sleep. This spirals out to affect almost all aspects of your life, from physical health to mental well being.
Live a Better, Balanced Life Under HCL
HCL can truly help you live a more balanced, healthier life. Getting proper sleep thanks to an undisrupted circadian rhythm is not only important in the short term for fatigue, productivity, and focus, but it can lower risk factors effecting for diabetes, cardiovascular health, metabolism, insomnia, etc.

LED lighting is slowly but surely making its way into stadium and arena lighting. New reports suggest a massive take over sooner rather than later, with an estimated growth of the market by $200 million by 2023, bringing the market total up to $622 million. So, what are the major factors ushering LEDs into sports complexes around the country and world? Let’s find out!
More Light for Less Money
According to Energy Manager Today, a large factor in LEDs’ popularity amongst arenas is their cost per lumen. Traditional lighting has around 80 lumens per watt, while LEDs have an output of 130 lumens per watt. This is what makes LEDs more energy efficient; you get more lumens per watt, therefore you need less wattage to power the lights. For sports stadiums, with hundreds to thousands of lights, getting better, brighter lighting for a greatly reduced price is a win/win!
Sports’ Love Affair with LEDs
Sports arenas and stadiums began adopting LEDs only a few years ago. NFL stadiums began lighting projects to update to LEDs beginning in 2015, with the MLB quickly following suit that same year. MLB teams and players require a lot of light on the playing field, due to working on such a large field with a very small object. LEDs are the best bulb for the job when it comes to lighting up large outdoor space consistently.
To Sports Arenas and Beyond
LEDs are not only making waves in lighting in large stadiums. High school and college courts, arenas, and stadiums are making the switch as well. You can also find LEDs being incorporated into rodeo venues, concert areas, racetracks, and more!

By now, we know the basic benefits of installing LED lighting, whether it be in your home, business, office space, classroom, hospital, etc. LEDs, while only slightly more expensive than traditional bulbs, help you save money month to month, year to year. Did you know that when using LEDs in an industrial building, your reduction of pollution can actually save you money? Keep reading to learn more about how LEDs save industrial facilities money now, and down the road!
Savings Now: Greater Energy Efficiency
Traditional industrial light fixtures, typically HIDs, require large loads of power to just turn on, let alone stay on. As LEDs have progressed, LED industrial alternatives are now up to 90 percent more efficient when compared to HID lights. Considering industrial facilities have lights running the majority of the day, if not the entire day, making the switch to LEDs will provide you with immediate energy savings, as well as more savings over time. In the end, the lights will pay for the cost of installment and then some!
Savings Later: Lowers Maintenance Costs
According to Manufacturing.Net, HPS bulbs can fail as often as every 24,000 hours. When these lights are used consistently, day in and day out, that’s not a lot of time in between installing the bulbs and replacing them. Replacing light fixtures in an industrial facility is anything but low maintenance. It often requires multiple employees, mechanical lifts, extra lighting for when the bulb is removed and replaced, and more. This all adds to the facility’s energy costs. Once you’ve installed LED lighting, you will notice just how much time maintenance of traditional bulbs was eating into your productivity! LED bulbs can last upwards of 100,000 hours, which averages replacing bulbs around every 10 years instead of every few.
Savings Now: Double the Light at a Fraction of the Cost
On average, LEDs have a 60 percent increase in light output when compared to HID systems. They are also directional, which leads to less light waste and more light where you need it most. Because of the increased lumens at a fraction of the wattage, you save money right away on your energy bills after installation. You may even find you need less bulbs in general when installing LEDs, as they cover more ground!
Savings Later: Reducing Pollution Reduces Cost
There are numerous benefits to installing LED lighting in industrial facilities. One not mentioned often is how reducing pollution via energy usage can save you money in the long run as well. Larger industrial companies are often made to buy carbon credits to offset their emissions. This has led to a movement of industrial facilities installing energy efficient systems, lowering their costs, carbon footprint, and eliminating the need to buy carbon credits. This is an important factor to keep in mind when considering the benefits of LEDs!
