Bay Area Newborn Photographer Diaries: So excited to share some highlights from baby Cooper’s in-home newborn session! I had the honor of photographing Caitlin & Charlie twice! They booked my Bump-To-Baby package which allowed me to photograph this beautiful transition from pregnancy to having their sweet boy home! Take a look below to see some adorable photos of baby Cooper!

New Beginnings: “It’s beautiful chaos! There are so many new learning experiences happening every day, helping this little guy adjust to the world outside the womb. We take the curveballs day by day and focus on enjoying this sweet phase of lots of newborn snuggles. Seeing his little face is the best part of my day!” -Caitlin Motherhood: “It’s truly the most incredible gift I’ve ever been given. When I looked into those little eyes for the first time, I knew my purpose in life would be to make sure he knew how loved he is. He is the best part of me and the missing part I never knew I needed.” -Caitlin Cooper

“I saw his name on a list of boy names right after I found out what we were having and had to have it on my list. We had a few other names picked out that we loved and wanted to wait until we met him to decide for sure. We both looked at each other as soon as we saw him and said oh yeah, he’s definitely a Cooper! My Grandmother was one of the most influential people in my life and I wanted to honor her by using her last name as Cooper’s middle name.” -Caitlin

Life After Baby
“It has definitely slowed down a bit! Weekend nights out are now dinners at home and snuggles on the couch (yes Netflix, I’m STILL there), sleeping in (or sleep at all) is a thing of the past, and trying to figure out what actual day it is, is a daily occurrence.” -Caitlin Bay Area Newborn Photographer Nursery

“I wanted it to be clean, inviting and minimalistic. I chose a Moroccan rug that had a little pop of color as the focal point, since the room is small and didn’t want to crowd the walls.” -Caitlin

“We have a 9 year old black lab named Ozzy, he loves his new little brother!” -Caitlin “I found Shefali through Instagram and immediately fell in love with her work. My Husband and I were lucky enough to book her for our maternity shoot and newborn photos. Not only is she incredibly sweet natured and makes you feel so relaxed and comfortable, but her work is something I know we will treasure for a lifetime. When I received my newborn photos, I was brought to tears. Shefali captured the love we have for our baby boy so perfectly! I cannot recommend her enough and can not wait to use her again!” -Caitlin

Bay Area Family Photography Journal: I am so excited to share some highlights from a recent sunset family session! I had the most amazing time with Andy and Sarah Lit’s family of 7! It was fun hanging out with their five children: Apollo, Shaiden, Sailie, Abrie, and Adelaide.

Sarah + Andy are high school sweethearts. Their sweet children are naturals in front of the camera! I was melting the entire session seeing the beautiful bond that they share amongst one another. Here are a few of my favorite shots from their session… enjoy!

“In a big family, love isn’t divided, it multiplies.” “The best part about working with Shefali is that I didn’t even have to think! From start to finish, she was ON IT.” – Sarah Lit “As we booked our session, she made sure weather would be ideal on that date, and in planning our outfits she had so many helpful suggestions to get the exact look we were going for. She knew the perfect location, and even had a backup plan – just in case.” – Sarah Lit “When it came time to shoot Shefali captured the pure moments with such ease, and even managed to get some of my favorite shots while the baby was fussy (true talent!).” -Sarah Lit “She captured our family in the most seamless, easy way, ensuring that everyone had a special moment in front of the camera. As far as skill, she has SUCH a gift to capture that beautiful, glowy sunset to cast a dreamy look on our session.” – Sarah Lit “If you’re looking for a photographer that will make magic happen in your pictures, she is your girl!” -Sarah Lit About The Artist

SF Newborn Photographer Diaries: Baby Taj’s in-home newborn lifestyle session is now on the blog! I’m a little late in the game, but so excited to finally share some highlights from this session! I had a wonderful time spending a afternoon with Sara and Michael Franti. These two are beautiful human beings and even better parents! Sweet baby Taj was extremely expressive and all smiles! Just look at how joyful this little guy is! I am excited and looking forward to capturing Taj’s next milestone very soon!

To be able to capture genuine moments, I ask parents to do what they normally would do with their baby: snuggle them, kiss them and hold them tight. My sessions are less posed and more focused on parents just doing what they do best – loving on their babies. I love photographing moments like these. So pure. So real. This is a perfect depiction of what life as a new mom is like. These pure, everyday moments are what I look forward to capturing. Gosh, this boy and his HUGE smiles! You can feel the warmth and love that radiates through this family of three!

San Francisco Newborn Photographer Diaries: Ali & Jimmy recently welcomed two sweet babies into their home! Jude and Palmer are preemies and like most parents of premature babies, Ali and Jimmy went through a difficult journey before they were finally able to bring the two home! The joy that they feel can be reflected through their photos! I am so glad I had the opportunity to meet this beautiful family and hear their story. Take a look below to hear the birth story of Jude & Palmer shared by their two parents.

“We are the 1:8 couple that dealt with infertility and if that season didn’t occur we wouldn’t have our miracles Jude and Palmer. Parenthood is putting our children’s comfort ahead of ours and taking pride in every little advancement. Their creation truly is our greatest accomplishment.” “Jimmy and I went through several months of fertility treatments and in June 2018 we had gone through the IVF (in-vitro fertilization) cycle and my body was finally ready to transfer an embryo (or two). We were so ready for our baby at that point so to improve our chances of the embryo attaching we transferred two. After just 3 days from the double embryo transfer date we went to the movies to try and occupy our minds. That night I decided to take a pregnancy test just for the fun of it and that’s when I saw it- a very faint pink second line. We were over the moon and almost in disbelief!” “We had had enough surprises, so we wanted to find out as soon as possible. Mom thought they were both boys since they were riding low (and we only have nephews), but we were elated to hear we had one of each! People kept saying “now you can be done” which annoyed us at first, but being sleep deprived it’s starting to sound nice.”  “Moms favorite animal is an elephant and elephants symbolize fertility, strength and general good luck. I wanted to bring that energy into our home and also keep it gender neutral since we have one of each!” “Our babes were born at 34 weeks because of pregnancy complications. When I went into surgery for a c-section we were warned that they may not come out crying and not to worry that they were prepared with oxygen.” “When both babies came out screaming their heads off we felt an abundant amount of relief. We had two perfect babies breathing on their own. From there they were transferred to the NICU where mom got to meet them a few hours later.”

“Being a NICU parent was an entirely different challenge. Leaving our babies at the hospital and coming home empty handed felt wrong. Trusting others to care for our children was scary.” “Coming home felt foreign because they weren’t there and kissing them goodnight every day after spending hours at the hospital with them never got easier. I went from feeling their every kick and movement to not having them with me at all. We were heartbroken.” “Luckily, the twins were in the best care possible and they only needed help eating and growing. After 14 days, Palmer came home and after 20 days Jude joined us. Now our home is chaotic and busy just like we like it!”

I had a lovely morning hanging out with Meghan, Andrew and their sweet daughter Norah at their beautiful home in San Francisco for their family photography session. I enjoy photographing real and authentic moments in an environment that holds meaning to the people I’m photographing. Meghan wanted to capture this early phase of Norah and I could not be more humbled that she chose me to document it.

So much love between these three!

“Entering parenthood is like being thrust into a whole new, right-side up world. It is wonderful but suddenly everything is not what it once was. It is hard to capture in words – especially running on ‘new parent no sleep’ mode and consuming little to no caffeine in effort to keep up my milk supply!” -Meghan “In some ways, I believe I have spent my whole life preparing to be my daughter’s mom –  especially the last nine months or so. That said, the minute Norah Jo entered the world, it happened – I became ‘Momma Meg’ and that will forever change my purpose. From July 19th, 2018 forward, I will dedicate every day to my daughter’s health and happiness.” -Meghan   “Getting pregnant was a two-year journey filled with an operation, almost a year of regular ultra sounds, hormone shots, IUIs, and many months of hoping for the opportunity for the love of my life, Andrew, and I to become parents. I vividly remember taking a handful of home pregnancy tests the tenth day after completing our second IUI, just as we were instructed to do.” -Meghan “A minute is so short until you are waiting for a pregnancy test! The lines couldn’t appear fast enough. Even after three positive tests, because I knew there was some chance that the hormones from the IUI were in my system giving us a false positive, I wasn’t 100% convinced it was real. Only when I saw the flicker of a heartbeat on the monitor at 5 weeks did it really sink in…the baby we’d been hoping for was on her way!” -Meghan
“My husband and I opted to do all the screening tests so were tears-rolling-down-the-cheeks happy to find out we had a healthy baby on the way. After a long drawn out dinner discussing (and debating) what it would be like to raise a girl or boy in today’s world, we quietly sat together around our kitchen island to embrace the news- whatever was revealed to us. We knew having a boy or girl would impact the rest of our lives.” -Meghan “We clicked ‘reveal gender’ on our computer after happily and diligently reviewing all the other screening results. My husband and I both had our eyes closed and counted backwards so we would see the news at the same time. I remember Andrew shrieking and jumping literally a foot in the air after learning we were going to have a baby GIRL and I couldn’t help but think there has never been a better time to bring another strong woman into this world!” -Meghan “Norah’s name is one Andrew and I were drawn to from the start; Norah is derived from the Latin word Honor and as a Meghan with an ‘h’ we liked Norah with an ‘h’ too.” -Meghan
“Jo is a name for female heroines. My late paternal grandmother’s name was Josephine. I called her Grammy Jo. She was a hardworking, intelligent woman who put family first, always. Also, the literary protagonist, Jo, in Little Women represents another strong, independent, creative woman our Norah Jo can be inspired by.” -Meghan “We wanted ‘Norah’s Nursery’ to be simple albeit playful. We chose bright whites, natural birch wood pieces that would grow with Norah into toddlerhood and modern art accents that inspire both exploration and adventure. We’ve also had so much fun filling the nursery with our family and friends’ favorite children’s books, educational wooden toys, and relics from our childhood and relationship.” -Meghan “I have a cross stitched poem that hung in my childhood nursery that reads: ‘Cleaning and scrubbing can wait ‘til tomorrow. For babies grow up we’ve learned to our sorrow. So quiet down cobwebs, dust go to sleep. I’m rocking my baby and babies don’t keep.'”-Meghan “Also, when Andrew and I first started dating I sent him the ‘You are my sunshine my only sunshine, you make me happy when skies are gray’ print. As silly as it may seem, that song captured how I felt about Andrew. His optimistic outlook makes my heart sing, no matter what we’re facing.  Now, we sing that lullaby to our daughter each time we rock her to sleep.” -Meghan “Certainly, motherhood has given me a much deeper appreciation for the African proverb – it takes a village. I knew the phrase but didn’t really know what that meant until living it. My tribe has picked me up and supported us through postpartum healing and unconditional love so needed during this pivotal first chapter of parenthood.” -Meghan “I am incredibly fortunate to have excellent role model mothers to learn from and continually be inspired by. My mom Mari. My Mimi, Betty. My Grammy Jo. My mother in law, Beth. And all of the mommas in my sisterhood of women friends who have turned up – each in their own way – to welcome me to the M.O.M club.” -Meghan “Our world has opened up to a new, expansive universe. I am in complete awe of its wonder and cannot wait to explore it for the rest of my life. Each day, each week, each month (and I can only imagine each year) is filled with change that has awakened a part of me that was destined to become a Mom.” -Meghan “Specifically, in the last four months (my daughter just turned four months old) I have slept less, worried more, and experienced more perpetual “highs” than ever before.  A few of my favorite things as of late include mommy and me morning singalongs to Raffi “shake my sillies out,” watching Norah discover her toes, daily park walks, and full-bellied baby laughs triggered by funny Mom faces that I hope she things are this cool years from now.” -Meghan
