I have been waiting for this Libra New Moon for months now! The Libra New Moon brings a birth of a new cycle, a new beginning! The chaotic astro weather of eclipse season is finally over and this New Moon is an opportunity to plant seeds and watch them manifest into fruition on the Full Moon on October 16th.

L.A. – Friday 5:12 pm
NEW YORK – Friday 8:12 pm
LONDON – Saturday 1:12 am
HONG KONG – Saturday 8:12 am
SYDNEY – Saturday 10:12 am

This month’s New Moon is especially magical for creating and amplifying beauty! During a New Moon, the Moon goes through “death” under the rays of the Sun, making this a perfect time to embody the Moon in the dark to detox, rejuvenate and transform. It’s time to rebalance, revitalize, revamp and beautify thyself into attunment with the harmonious, creative, elegant and seductive cosmic vibes of this Venus ruled month. Here are five goddess offerings to beautify yourself under this romantic New Moon in Libra!

I Botanical Elixir: On the day of the New Moon open your heart and drink rose water to manifest love. The rose was sacred to the goddess of love and erotic passion and Venus in scorpio honors the Mars ruled thorns of the rose. Red roses are known to be used in love magic as protection in love spells. Roses are also associated with Eros, the god of love and beauty, so leaving some rosewater to the gods and goddesses of love is also ideal for manifesting.

II Sacred Bath:  The ruler of the New Moon is seductive Venus in Scorpio. Adding rose, the sacred flower of the goddess of love, to your bath will open your heart to the energy of love and goddess Aphrodite. Rosewater is also thought to restore balance within, which is perfect for this Libra New Moon energy.

Venus in Scorpio will also be trine Neptune in Pisces during the New Moon. Taking a dip in the sea or taking a sensual rose bath with Epson salt will work magic not only purifying and cleansing but also unbinding the spell of Neptune’s mysterious fog.

III Love Crystal Necromancer: The New Moon is a perfect time to bring your crystals to life. Rose quartz is highly ideal since it is a love stone known to heal the heart chakra. However, any love crystal such as garnet, lapis lazuli and pink aventurine are also ideal. Charge your crystals by placing them around your rose bath while you set your New Moon intention into the crystals so that you can use them as a talisman of good luck and fortune throughout the lunation.
IV Procrastination Banishment: If you are really feeling the dark Moon vibes you can try this exercise in a place of spiritual power, or in the comfort of your own home. Sit in a meditative position facing south and clear your mind. If you are comfortable regulating your breathing, try the “four-seven-eight” breathing technique. Inhale through your nose for 4 seconds and hold your breath for a count of seven. Slowly exhale completely through your mouth for eight seconds. Now inhale again and repeat three times for a total of four breaths. Close your eyes and visualize a red sphere around you. While you’re visualizing this, repeat, “O Mars, I conjure you by the High God of the Universe, that you may hear my prayer and attend to and fulfill my petition. I ask that you sever me from procrastination and grant me strength and vitality to complete my mission.”
V Venus Mudra: This Mudra or Venus lock, is a kundalini technique which channels sensual and sexual energy flow for balance and focus. To form the mudra, Interlace your fingers together with palms facing each other. If you are a woman place your left thumb on top and if you are a man place your right thumb on top. Feel free to mediate and practice yoga to calm your mind and bring peace and harmony to your New Moon.

Libra is represented by the scales, which is all about weighing everything to bring balance, peace, strength and harmony in relationships, especially your relationship with you. This lunation is about strengthening the core of self love, which in turn will lead you down the right path, attracting people who vibrate the same energy as you. With newly entered Jupiter in Libra, this months New Moon sets the flavor for the entire year to come! Jupiter in Libra is also about broadening relationships, while Venus in Scorpio will be about deepening the connection. Jupiter in Libra’s theme will also be about wisdom; in terms of relationship, communications and values. It is important to set and narrow down your intentions this New Moon so that you can actually watch them come to light during the Aries Full Moon on the 16th of October. Take this New Moon to honor yourself and what you really want to manifest for this year.

Happy Libra Season!

I love Libra season. The weather, the apple picking and baking, the act of dusting off my cozy sweater collection – and buying more cozy sweaters because one can never have too many. I love Libras too! You can easily turn up a party and also be the best couch potato companion. If I ever need someone to plan or strategize with, you are my go-to sign because your brain is always thinking of possibilities. And flirting! Flirting with you is the best because you are witty, and you enjoy making people feel sexy and great about themselves. Other great things about you: your timeless sense of style, your ability to pay attention to people as if they were the most important person in the world, and the way you can get others to look at different angles of a situation. But what about the things that people don’t acknowledge about Libras? Or what about shining some light on labels that astrologers stick on you? I got you.

The word “balance” is a way of life for you.

“Balancing” doesn’t mean just weighing out options in your head, or rooting for the underdog at a sporting event just to balance out the amount of attention each team gets. Balance to you means eating the right amount of “good” food and “bad” food. It means knowing that you may be the most attractive person in your group of friends, and helping them look their absolute best when you go out together. It means working really hard and fast for a certain amount of time, and lounging around hard and fast, too.

Balance puts you in a good mood, and it puts everyone else in a good mood… Other people just don’t acknowledge its importance the way you do.

“You know, I use organic products, but I get lasers. It’s what makes life interesting, finding the balance between cigarettes and tofu.”

– Gwyneth Paltrow, born September 27, 1972

Libras are empathetic.

It is a well-known fact that Libra is the sign of partnerships and fairness, which explains a lot about your interactions with others. At first meeting, you approach people with an open mind because you know that is the fair thing to do. As a result, you notice other people’s mannerisms and nuances, and you are open to seeing past people’s facades. Although you are known for being emotionally aloof, this is not actually the case. It is your need for balance, as mentioned above, that motivates you to keep your exterior emotionally detached. On the contrary, you have many feelings. You just know when, where and with whom to express them.

“Never underestimate the pain of the person, because in all honesty, everyone is struggling. Some people are better at hiding it than others.”

– Will Smith, born September 25, 1968

Libras downplay their traits.

You Libras say some outright annoyingly self-deprecating shit sometimes, and it’s because you believe that it helps harmonize your environment. When you say things to downplay your physical attractiveness or your brain power, you aren’t fooling anyone. We all know you know you’re hot shit.

“I’m not Brad Pitt or George Clooney. Those guys walk into a room and the room changes. I think there’s something more… not average, but everyman about me.”

– Matt Damon, October 8, 1970

Libras are not lazy.

We have all heard of the nickname “Lazy Libra” at some point. But why is this phrase so popular? Is it because it is alliterated and catchy? I have had the pleasure of being close to many Libras, and I can honestly say that “lazy” is not one of the adjectives I would give them.  If you wonder why Libras lounge around so much, it is because they works fast as fuck when they aren’t lounging.

In fact, you Libras work really hard to make your efforts look effortless. If people ever wonder why you seem to stand still when others around you are panicking about something, it is not because you are lazy. It is because you’ve already racked your brain in preparation for unexpected scenarios, or you are strategizing before you act.

“If somebody in your industry is more successful than you, it’s because he works harder than you.” – Hugh Jackman, born October 12, 1968

Libras are willing to get down and dirty.

You are notorious for being anal-retentive about certain things, and for not wanting to get your hands dirty. One factor that contributes to this is that the sign Libra is sandwiched between two signs, Virgo and Scorpio, which are both known to have OCD tendencies. And when the Sun is in Libra, Mercury and Venus will be close by – so it wouldn’t be far-fetched to say that you might have planets in Virgo or Scorpio. Not to mention that you may even be on the cusp of either sign and take on some of their characteristics!

Seeing you willingly getting your hands dirty is something that only certain people get to experience. Even if you don’t generally get down and dirty, you will still try socially unacceptable things behind closed doors as long as you know the people around you won’t judge you.

Libras are way smarter than people give them credit for.

It’s already a known fact that you are intelligent and calculated, yet others still find it easy to discredit things you say and do. I’m pretty sure it has a lot to do with the fact that you downplay certain traits. Actually, it’s fun for you to downplay yourself, and then sneak attack people with your intelligence and powers of manipulation. You, Libra, are one of the most self-aware signs – if not the most. You know exactly what you’re doing when you allow people to think you’re not the brightest crayon in the box…

“I love when people underestimate me and then become pleasantly surprised.”

The entire month of September will be the last of Eclipse Season and Mercury will be retrograde from August 30th to September 21st.
Anytime a planet goes retrograde it is a time or internalization and reflection.  It is recommended that you do not sign papers, buy electronics or make any rather major decisions that lie in the realms of Mercury. Mercury rules over all forms communication and refers to mental activities and faculties, such as mental and neural activity, giving and receiving information through using words, symbols, speaking, writing, logic, analyzing, perceiving/sensing/hearing, conceptualizing, articulating, comprehending, transporting, movement and connection of communication; the Greek messenger of the gods Hermes, the Roman Mercury.
Mercury will be retrograde in Virgo, the sign of Mercury’s rulership, which is extremely epic astro energy  for being proactive in the re-organization and re-evaluation of getting grounded into reality. Jupiter, the major benific, is also closely aligned to Mercury retrograde. Mercury will be aiding the closing of this Jupiter in Virgo year!

Mercury retrograde aligned to Jupiter and Venus at his station you may find the desire and a spark in seeking the big picture, gaining philosophical expansion and a larger perspective of life. Maybe even becoming interested in cultures/ religion, foreign languages, enjoying pleasurable conversation, broad humor, generosity in mental outlook and find confidence and optimism through speech and thoughts.

A common theme with Mercury retrograde is that you will notice people come back into your life who you haven’t herd from or spoke to in a while. Depending on where the messenger god is retrograde in your chart is where in your your life people will come fleeing back to you. The reason for this is since Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun, he connects us to the collective consciousness, so when his orbit out races that of the Sun’s people will one form or another get into communication with you.

Aries/ Aries Rising: Aries, your body is your temple. Mercury goes retrograde in your house of health, work and service. Emphasizing that this retrograde period is all about getting re-aligned with a healthy diet and  routine. Abundant situations come through these sectors.

Taurus/ Taurus Rising: The Mercury Retrograde is in positive energy flow to your Sun or Asc in your house of love, children and creative pursuits. This may mean friend and lover come back, so don’t be surprised when you get a text of a phone call. This retrograde may also have you tap back into your talents or hobbies which you once loved but haven’t had time for — now you do!

Gemini/ Gemini Rising: You are ruled by Mercury, making you sensitive to Mercury Retrogrades. You may experience hiccups around your home. If you plan on moving try and wait to sign papers until Mercury stations direct September 22nd.

Cancer/Cancer Rising: Dear Moon children, you always feel the eclipses intensely. The eclipse and Mercury retrograde lighting up your house of communication, siblings/kin, social daily routine you can experience something new and abundant along those sectors.

Leo/ Leo Rising: Leo, Mercury goes retrograde in your house of talents, sources of security and your $$ house, so be careful with your purchases. Friends from the past or meeting new groups may also be highlighted and bring abundance your way.

Virgo/ Virgo Rising: Don’t worry Virgo Mercury retrograde is tried to Jupiter so this should be an extremely beneficial and abundant time for you. Maybe wait on trying that new look till Mercury goes out of shadow.

Libra/Libra Rising: Mercury is retrograde in your house of self-undoing… Basically, where you screw yourself over, so if you are feeling tempted just zen out and try to take up a meditation class and or lucid dreaming. You will find your treasure’s there!

Scorpio/Scorpio Rising: Mercury retrograde is in positive energy flow to you and in the sector of your chart which rules your friends, acquaintances and people on social media. Mercury also rules your house of shared income and sex, so maybe you rekindle your resources.

Sagittarius/Sagittarius Rising: Dear Saggo, you are mutable sign and things may be feeling pretty restricted for you at the moment. There may be lots of action going on in your public life or with your career. Don’t resist now is your time to get fulfillment through the path of your heart.

Capricorn/ Capricorn Rising: Mercury goes retrograde in the sector of your chart which rules over foreigners, long distance travel, spirituality/religion, your second spouse and your higher education. This is a perfect time to get aligned to higher learning with Jupiter there as well.

Aquarius/Aquarius Rising: Mercury goes retrograde in your house of shared income, other peoples resources, debts, sex and secrets. This is a beneficial somehow with Jupiter there as well just be careful when its comes to signing paper work  till Mercury stations direct on the 22nd of Sept.

Pisces/Pisces Rising: Pisces, the cosmos have all aligned for you! Mercury is retrograde in the sector of your chart which rules over business and love partnerships -your first spouse. There is a lot of abundance in your house of others. However, hold off on signing agreements till Mercury goes direct!

Career Spotlight:How Joe Mares Makes it Fun with His Leo Midheaven

It’s always great to find someone who follows their Natal Chart’s promise for their lives, it’s even better to  find someone who is thriving in it—Joe Mares is that guy.

Mares is a Virgo with a Scorpio Moon/Rising, and Leo Midheaven–since your Midheaven is the career path in your natal chart, I’m mainly interested in how that particular aspect plays out in his life.

Joe is an artist, former pro wrestler, improver, and entertainment manager, as well as a card game, video game and virtual reality experience creator. If you know anything about Leo, as I do, you would totally be crying right now. Leo is the sign of fun, games, children, passion, creation, heart, pleasure, ego, excitement and entertainment.

Joe found some time to break away from his busy and exciting schedule, to sit down and talk to me.

You just have to show that you’re good, or that you’re willing to prove yourself.

Hello Joe! I know that you live in Los Angeles, what’s the weather like today?

It’s sunny and breezy. We don’t have seasons, so it’s like this 95% of the time.

I personally believe that L.A. is the greatest city on earth. I love the feeling I get when I’m visiting. What’s your favorite part about living there?

I love that the people here are so ambitious, driven and positive, while somehow still being laid back. It’s a really mellow vibe. Makes it easy to create and be creative.

So I take it you dabble in the arts (Laughs)? For you, is it a hobby, career, or overall lifestyle choice?

Yeah, it’s everything. I do art and create stuff for fun, but I also do it for a living. L.A. itself is like a giant art exhibit, with our history, different neighborhoods, culture etc. It’s nice to see the city really embracing it’s uniqueness and history in a cool way. It used to be somewhat dangerous and sketchy in some spots, but it’s more gentrified now. So it really is a very artist friendly city. You should totally move here.

I’m definitely thinking about it! I would love to know about your career in the arts, how does one get paid for creative work? Are you a performer, or more behind the scenes?

I do both actually, my Leo Midheaven has always drawn me to the stage. In any case, you just have to show that you’re good, or that you’re willing to prove yourself. For example, I started my journey in the video game industry as a tester. I was also going to school for game development at the time, so I had experience and some skill, but I also knew I had to prove myself.

I had an opportunity to work for Riot Games (League of Legends) circa 2007, but since they were a scrappy start up at the time, they didn’t have money to pay. So, even though I was going to school full time and living on a tight budget, I  knew it was more important to prove myself when the opportunity came. So I told them I would work for free, and so I did. In my time there, I directed the animation for the first 40 heroes, did some production work, game design, and I even named the game! It used the acronym “LOL” on purpose–just some fun trivia if anyone ever wondered. After that I’ve never stopped working as a creative in the game industry. I also get paid now lol.

Being a Leo Midheaven helps keep the energy up at the office... I’ve never been worried about my career, and I’m amazing at job interviews. So I got my Leo Midheaven to thank for all that.

Oh my gosh, that’s incredibly awesome. Seriously, I find the life of a Leo Midheaven (and yours in particular) so fascinating! Your career and public image is literally ruled by fun and games. I mean, is it still all fun and games for you, or does it just feel like work?

It’s so funny, most people who work in the game industry are so burned out on games that they don’t play them at home anymore because they can’t stop analyzing them or finding flaws in it. I’ve always been able to see a piece of entertainment as it is, and not look at it through a creative lens. I can do that when I’m at work, but I can shut it off when I’m out on a Saturday night. So it’s still fun for me at work, and at home.

Also, when you’re doing a producer type role, being a Leo Midheaven helps keep the energy up at the office as well. I’m a Virgo so I van be prone to worrying, but I’ve never been worried about my career, and I’m amazing at job interviews. So I got my Leo Midheaven to thank for all that.

Speaking of your Virgo Sun, Leo is actually ruled by the Sun, which means that your career plays out through your Sun sign. So you are probably one of the most well-organized and structured gamers out there!  Leo also rules the heart, so when you lose your passion for something, is it hard not to quit everything, and start over?

It’s weird, I don’t really lose my passion, it just shifts. I love being a game developer, but I also love pro wrestling, so I did that for a bit. I also love improv, so I did that for a bit. So I stop working on something if it has nothing to teach me, or if I don’t think the audience will discover something new with it. So my passion is always in me, and not in any one specific tangible thing outside of me.  I will always remain passionate, as long as it’s for something cool the audience will discover, or if I can learn from it–usually they come in the same package. But I think I get all my passion from my Scorpio moon and rising.  You’re the Astrologer, so you can tell me if I’m off base there.

Moon on the Rising is a person who follows the many ebbs and flows life has to offer–like the moon and the tides. Scorpio itself is about transformation and growth, so I can definitely see you not wanting something if it can’t teach you! Scorpio is also opposite the money sign: Taurus, so it makes sense that you have done things for free, and worked really hard for them!  I’m actually interested in your those projects you do for free, can you tell me a little bit about some of those current or future projects?

Yeah, I’m working on a ton of side projects, ranging from books, to tv show pitches. But the one I’m most excited about is with the beautiful, affable, super intelligent and totally not crazy Alyssa Sharpe. It’s a card game that can best be described as Cards Against Humanity meets astrology. It should be pretty fun, and it will be on Kickstarter around Virgo or Libra season. When any news or updates are available, you can find them on Astrologer_Af on Instagram. I also love helping people break into the creative industry, in fact, I have a podcast dedicated to it, called “What Makes it Fun“.

You’re not going to believe this, but I know of Alyssa! I actually heard she’s a nightmare—huge ego. She’s definitely very lucky to be working with you.

She’s not THAT bad.

Thank you for that, and thank you so much for your time! I’m really excited for whats to come!

Thank you, Alyssa!

Welcome to the real beginning of the Year.

When the clock strikes Midnight on New Year’s Eve we cheers and kiss.
We say, “I can’t believe it’s the New Year already!” But what we don’t know is that the worst is yet to come. Capricorn is about work, lessons and power struggles–what you thought you wanted, could actually turn around and bite your ass, or worse just be a flop of nothing. Your New Years resolutions end up dead in the water, and for what? You’re just a victim in this situation.

You see, Astrologers know when the real New Year starts: it starts in Aries Season at the Spring Equinox. Aries is the sign of newness, infancy, identity, and basic human needs, there is no sign younger, or more wide-eyed then the Aries.

And the fact that Aries is the newest sign, doesn’t mean that the New Year has completely started. In order for this to happen, we have to wait for the Aries New Moon.

The New Moon Phase of the Lunar Cycle comes when the Sun and Moon are both in the exact same degree in the sky. The Moon, being the quickest moving energy above us, moves to the Sun’s position to block out the star’s light completely, where we end up with complete darkness. This is why we choose the New Moon to set intentions–where there is nothing, we can plant our seeds. It does nothing to plant a crop of Carrots on top of fully bloomed Rose bushes, so why do this in your life?

When the Moon enters the exact same degree as the Sun, during Aries Season, we get the Aries New Moon. We get a chance to start clean, turn over a new leaf and begin a real New Year, where change can actually begin.

So let’s ask the real questions. What do you want out of this Year? Where do you want to go? Who do you want to be? On a piece of paper (or your phone notes), write down 2-5 of the most personal and real things you can think of. Say a prayer over them–ask for them. Remember them. Think about them constantly. Make the idea of them become a feasible reality for you.

Year after year we get stuck in the same rut, because we refuse to believe that we could change our lives, or that what we want could actually come to us. And I’m not talking about magic, I’m talking about belief in yourself–that you could change an idea or dream into an actual living situation. Successful people do this all the time. And now you have an upper hand, because you’re planting these seeds on a clean earth.

Aries New Moon Intentions

First you need to know your Sun Sign and your Ascendant (Rising) Sign. The Sun sign is your birthday, but you can only know your Rising sign, if you know the exact time of your birth.  If you are curious about this, please look at our free Natal Chart calculator to find your fate. Below you can find your Rising sign and Sun sign’s Aries New Moon intentions.

Your Sun Sign

Your Sun sign on the Aries New Moon, will be inclined to set intentions in your physical reality. This means things like: quitting your job, working on your body or relationships. Your Sun sign placement can give you some ideas on where you want your year to start. Just remember that Aries is NEW, so at this moment in time, you will want newness. After you evaluate the area, what would make it new again, for you?

If your a(n):

Aries: You will be looking at yourself, physical appearance, and identity in the world.

Taurus: You will feel the need to go inside your head to sort out what is troubling you, what unconscious parts of you are often discarded, and what is nudging you to change.

Gemini: You will want to take a look at your networks of colleagues, associates, and even friends, to see if they still serve their purpose for you.

Cancer: You will be reevaluating your career, public image (and what you put on social media or into the world), and how you relate to the authority figures in your life.

Leo: You will be interested in what parts of your life seek expansion. Your views could change about school or religion, and your need for personal fame in the world will be given attention.

Virgo: Your sexual identity (and need to be close to another person) will come under fire, as you are aware of the negative and/or positive energy they are exchanging with you.

Libra: Your relationships are always important to you, and even more so now. Do you love them and do they make you happy? What needs repairing?

Scorpio: Your body is of great importance to you now, are you eating right, or working out effectively to get the desired results?

Sagittarius: You will be reevaluating the pleasure you get from life, whether or not you have fun, or if your heart is still in it.

Capricorn: Your family, home and preoccupation with the balance of who you are, and what is really important in your life, will be at the forefront.

Aquarius: You will be thinking about your community and how you are effecting them with your words, and vice versa.

Pisces: Money, what your own, and even how attractive you are, will be a big deal to you now.

Your Ascendant (Rising) Sign

(If you don’t know what your rising sign is, see our free Birth Chart calculator. You will need your exact time of birth for accuracy.)

Your Rising Sign on the Aries New Moon, will be inclined to set intentions for your life purpose. This means things like: envisioning the perfect life, believing in yourself, imagining yourself with real love. Depending on where your Rising is, can give you some ideas on where you want your year to start. We tend to stunt our whole lives by being mentally blocked, choosing to look at these areas can lead to real steps to change.

NOTE for more advanced Astrologers: If you have an interception in your chart, or uneven houses, read the signs on either side of your Rising sign, to see if one of them makes more sense to you, the New Moon could fall in another life area, if this is the case.

If your a(n):

Aries Rising: You will be looking at who you would like to be as a person one day. What changes could you make in life that would lead to you truly being yourself?

Taurus Rising: What does God or the Universe really want for you? Are you being nudged in a direction to be truly clean of all the baggage you carry with you? What would make you free? You may already know what you have to do.

Gemini Rising: What’s your dream life? Who are you and who is there with you? There is power in visualizing what you can achieve with others.

Cancer Rising: You have a real purpose and it requires that you get out into the world and seek it out, do you have a true calling that is overshadowed by the anxious inner life you hide under?

Leo Rising: There is more to your life than ambitions of fame and belief in the world accepting you. Where you find your identity is not bad, it’s just good to know what is on the other side. What happens when you achieve this life, what do you want?

Virgo Rising: Your sexual prowess is not up for debate, as we are sexual beings. Can you visualize someone knowing you completely and still choosing to be fully, and deeply connected to you? It’s there you will see who you could be.

Libra Rising: You are not yourself without seeing yourself in someone else’s eyes. Do the eyes your currently looking into, see you as the great human being that you are?

Scorpio Rising: Do you work because you love it, or are you caught up in the grind of daily achievement and perfectionism, only to miss out on great opportunities that could change your reality?

Sagittarius Rising: What does your heart yearn for in this life?

Capricorn Rising: You need to be reminded to make time for yourself with silent meditation, and to get to the most honest truth of you who you are. Doing this can change your whole professional trajectory from the inside out.

Aquarius Rising: How are the words you exchange with others, adding to the value of your life? Do you want more for yourself, or are you perfectly fine exchanging ideas with the same people, over and over again?

Pisces Rising: Security and stability are important to you, but is the need to hold on to this security, stopping you from overall growth? You can change your future, you just have to let go of the past.

If you asked me to choose a favourite aspect of my birth chart, I would say my retrograde Saturn in the first house with Aquarius.

It is a part of a grand trine with my Moon in the fifth house with Gemini and Jupiter in the ninth house with Libra. It only squares with Pluto in the tenth house with Scorpio. I have this masochistic-like relationship with the malefic planet, which I happily give all credit to Aquarius for making me endure through this in that particular way; I reluctantly get great satisfaction from the lessons it makes me learn whenever it decides to flare up during its journey around the Sun.

I am just a cantankerous and aloof individual with identity and trust issues who is also a giant softy, excessive worry-wort and hideously misunderstood.

Saturn for me has manifested itself at my own demise to be that friend that does not seem to believe me whenever I tell them that I have found my “true calling” in life, whether it be another job, hobby or when I make new friends; or when I feel like I finally know how to answer the age old question, ‘describe yourself in three words’ without second-guessing myself. That’s just it! Saturn has this uncanny ability to manipulate me into overthinking every single situation, and being the ultimate people pleaser and peace keeper with my Sun in Libra, I tend to meet the expectations and needs of the world more than myself.

My search for my own identity, my own freak flag that I can proudly wave, is stunted by my own crippling anxiety, low self-esteem and a really unpleasant nihilistic view on life. It’s like I am wearing this heavy mask that won’t let me comfortably have fun and enjoy the human experience until later on in life, when I most likely have my Saturn return.

Before I can reap the fruits of self-liberation at the age of twenty-nine, or thereabouts, when my Saturn return occurs, I must overcome living now as a walking contradiction; I want to make friends but I am frightened of rejection, I want to be myself but I don’t know how and I want to be loved but I think to logically and scientifically, and am too detached from reality, that I don’t know what love means.

And don’t get me started on my ego! I may appear to have my shit together when you meet me in person but deep down, whenever Saturn flares up, I tend to think I am in God when I should believing in a God. It has been the cause for a lot of my relationship and communication issues with my family for a long time.

Physically, Saturn effects have been quite prominent. For example, my mother had me through a C-section birth due to me being in a really inconvenient position at the time and making it difficult for me to be birthed naturally. This is meant to be a common trait with natal retrograde Saturn in the first house people, symbolizing the soul’s fear of the world upon entering it which has resulted in my uncanny ability to put up walls when I feel afraid and have a detached view on the world.

Also, as a result of that birth, I developed a literal “big head”; trapped liquid inside the cranium had caused my soft skull to swell up and solidify at the back. It was the bane of my existence during my primary and high school years, and another trait that is commonly mentioned around the astrology community about natal retrograde Saturn in the first house people; some form of physical deformity (for lack of a better word).

Intimacy is hard. Too hard, that I have been “riding solo” for all my life! I just can’t seem to let myself be vulnerable, and trust that special someone enough with my vulnerability, to be able to establish an intimate relationship with someone. I tend to put up more walls than the intro to Get Smart because I am afraid of getting hurt.

I don’t treat “love” like some casual fling; this maybe my Venus in the eighth house talking (and my Mars and Mercury in my Scorpio Midheaven), but if I were to enter into a relationship or get “intimate” with someone it has to be meaningful and have longevity, no exceptions.

Finally, whenever people assure me to “be myself”, I always laugh because I don’t know how. I always seem to conform to the expectations and needs of my family and friends that I have forgotten how to stay true to myself.

While my Leo descendant counterparts are out living and loving life, being themselves, and being happy without a care in the world with their family, friends and loved ones, I’ll be over here in my own little box of uncertainty wondering how on earth they can do that when the world is falling apart around them. How can they not give a shit?

That’s just it! I must learn how to not give a shit that much and do what makes me happy within reason. Although it is easier said than done thanks to my Saturn placement. Things take time so I need to be patient.

I need to meditate more in order become happy with myself, and I need create and surround myself in more positive energy by thinking positive thoughts.

I need to learn to be vulnerable with people in order to enjoy the luxuries of the human experience. It is great to understand the risk of establishing relationships and friendships, or even starting something new like a job or hobby, but if knowing risks and implications are holding you back from living than what’s the point?

I also need to cut my family some slack. While having friends is great, it is family that is going to be there for me the most when times get tough.

This is why I love having my natal retrograde Saturn in the first house with Aquarius. I may feel my life is not going the way I want now and blame everyone else for my own wrongdoings when in reality it is up to me to create my fate. It is a work in progress, please be patient with me.

All living beings are made of water. As The Water Bearer, it’s no wonder that Aquarius feels a responsibility to provide for others! Other well-known traits about Aquarius are their dry humor (and sometimes, we can’t tell if they’re joking or not), their health-consciousness, unbending logic, and their tendency to stray from the “ordinary.” Aquarius season is also the home of the Super Bowl, tax forms, Groundhog Day, Valentine’s Day and Chinese New Year. Just like Aquarius, the mix of events in its season are equal parts fun and reality-checking. If you are an Aquarius, you might feel misunderstood by a lot of people. That’s okay with you though, right?! After all, you march to the beat of your own drum, and that would be really hard to do if people could play the same beat on the same drum! There are a lot of other things I feel you do not get enough credit for, and I would like to acknowledge them as Aquarius season comes to a close.

Despite the fact that you usually come off like you feel nothing, there is nothing better than seeing you get emotional.

You are part-ruled by Saturn, which is the serious planet of restrictions and discipline. So, it makes sense that you think a lot about what you should and shouldn’t do. You always hold it together because there are usually more important things to pay attention to than just feelings. BUT. When you push your feelings to the side, they hide somewhere inside you, and they collect like bubbles in a boiling pot. When your proverbial pot of feelings boils over, it is actually kind of nice to see that you are human, just like the rest of us!

Your forward thinking inspires others.

Uranus is the other planet that rules your sign. It inspires creativity, strokes of genius and awakening. (Notice that we are currently in the Age of Aquarius, and the word “awakening” is everywhere in terms of universal and spiritual awareness.) Because you are ruled by the planet of structure and the planet of genius, you know deep inside you that there is so much positive work to be done on this planet, and you know how to contribute.

This is why you will see many Aquarians involved with charity, or helping those in need without breaking a sweat. Despite your career or how the public perceives you, your soul is that of a giver and a lover of all living things.

Actor and philanthropist Ashton Kutcher was introduced to the world as Michael Kelso, a wacky, clueless and cocky high schooler in “That 70’s Show”. Kutcher played this role so convincingly that it took many years after the show ended for the public eye to recognize him for who he really is: a role model, mature, aware of worldly issues, highly intelligent and eloquent. He is a co-founder of Thorn, an international organization that contributes to anti-human trafficking efforts.

You don’t just bear water for others. You bear burdens for them, too.

If people around you aren’t happy, you feel a responsibility to do something about it. You think nothing of bearing burden for others because it makes you happy to be in an environment where everyone is happy. When working in a team, you work on the “hard” tasks, or the part that no one else wants to do, just to keep everything flowing smoothly. Although this sounds like a chore to other people, you know better than everyone else that your ethic conditions you to thrive in environments that are less than optimal.

You make people realize shit about themselves.

When people are in denial about reality, you’re the first person to call out the actual truth. You have no problem telling a friend if they are “settling,” or if they need to step up their game. Your words may be a little blunt for some to swallow, but that’s probably because they need to toughen up… right?

You examine facts from different perspectives.

You bring up different ways to look at a facts and make people realize that there may be better ways to deal with them. You also see situation from your responsible Saturnian side as well as your rebellious Uranian side, and then you decide the best way to approach them. You’re a rule breaker and a law abider simultaneously. If I’m not sure whether or not I want to listen to the angel on one shoulder or the devil on the other, know I can come to you to figure out which to listen to.
